LIFELINE

“When we meet Jesus in the Eucharist, this encounter has the power to change us. The Eucharist has the power to transform the depths of our hearts and the heart of our culture. United to the power of his Eucharistic Presence, may we work to ensure that each person has life and has it in abundance.”

~ USCCB Secretariat of Pro-Life Activities, Respect Life Reflection: “I Came So That They Might Have Life”

Dear Friends!

As it is today, in Moses’ day as well as in Jesus’ day, the practice of marriage fell far short of God’s intention. Moses gave the law allowing divorce only because people’s hearts were hard and were completely insensitive to God’s will for marriage. Thus, in the OT, divorce was not approved, but it was preferred to open adultery. But according to Jesus, marriage in its true sense is a covenant and not a contract which we make every day in every sphere of life. Relationship between a husband and wife is like the covenantal relationship between God and the Israelites and between Jesus and the Church, which is permanent, unbreakable, and unchangeable. The reason for this is that it is based on the covenantal love and faithfulness of God. The Pharisees focused on separation, but Jesus focused on togetherness in marriage. No one is perfect. Therefore, let us not separate what God has joined together.
