LIFELINE

“We pray to you, O Lord, that we always recognize each member of this human family as being made in your image and beloved by you, with worth and dignity.”

~ USCCB, “Prayer to Heal Racial Division”

Dear Friends!

The miracles enumerated in the first reading were predicted by the prophet. There is a message of consolation and an affirmation for the Salvation of the Israelites in exile. Although their lives would have become burning sands, it would turn to springs of water. In the gospel, Jesus heals a person suffering from speech and hearing impairment. It reveals an inward healing of the people gathered. They were ignorant of hearing the words of Jesus, reluctant to answer him, praise him for his wondrous deeds. Now they are able to do all these things because they are now liberated from their disabilities. Often we pray for physical healing. But we should also pray for our spiritual healing, for the grace of hearing God’s word, for praising Him and glorifying Him through our words, deeds, and prayers. Interestingly, we often take the blessings of speech and hearing for granted. We also fail to realize the struggles the deaf and the dumb go through. We are able to speak and hear. We should use these precious gifts to the greater glory of God. Our mouth should praise and thank God; speak only good things, words of appreciation, consolation and encouragement instead of gossips and criticism. Our ears are to listen to the Word of God and preserve it in our hearts to ponder over like Mother Mary. It should not give ear to gossips, bad words, slander, and character assassination. Let’s praise God and help those in need of help.
