Cheltenian wins the
Weatherbys Grade 1 Bumper
Cheltenian, trained by Philip Hobbs, the impressive winner of the Weatherbys Grade 1 Champion Bumper at Cheltenham Festival yesterday was one of four Brightwells Sales graduates in the race. He was offered for sale by Michael Murphy’s Sandercourt Stud at the Cheltenham November Sale last year. He attracted great interest and two of Brightwells most loyal clients Roger Brookhouse and Richard Kelvin Hughes were both keen to aquire him. Mr Brookhouse was the eventual winner paying £210,000 for the Punchestown Bumper winner.
The vendor Michael Murphy, a brother of Ferdi, previously offered Al Ferof at the Cheltenham Sales; the winner of the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle on the opening day at the Cheltenham Festival. He was offered at the Cheltenham Sales after winning his point to point but did not reach his reserve and went on to win his bumper in Ireland before being acquired by his connections. Entries are now being taken for the Cheltenham April 13th and May 11th Sales.
