Our Approach to Learning
The world of work is changing – and some jobs are changing faster than others. According to the latest research, soon we 'll only be as good as the skills we possess. Now more than ever, students need the intellectual power to recognise societal problems; ask good questions and develop robust investigations into them; consider possible solutions and consequences; communicate and act upon what they learn. And most importantly, they must possess the capability and commitment to repeat that process if necessary. Contemporary curriculum experts agree that conceptual understanding is key for student success in school, jobs, and life.
At TISB, our creative and conceptual approach aims to develop the content knowledge and skills that our students require as a strong foundation to reach their full potential as local, national and global citizens of the future. Through our engaging, bespoke and balanced curriculum, we encourage reflective and critical thinking encouraging children to share their own experiences and ideas.

Research shows that even children benefit from metacognitive activities, which help them reflect on their own learning and develop higher-order thinking. To promote metacognition, we have established a set of ‘Learning to Learn skills’ which are modelled and practised as part our daily learning experiences.
We are continuing to develop our curriculum to ensure it captivates children’s imaginations and stimulates their intellect. Above all, we aim to ensure that we continue to raise standards in all areas, academically and socially for all our children, building lifelong learners. Most importantly, we want children to enjoy learning!
