For my placement I have been accepted to a film and music video production company under the name “Link Productions” based in Brick lane. Before I started my work placement didn’t have any previous experience as a still photographer and to be honest I didn’t really know what to expect and how this would go. Anyway, I was happy to get the opportunity to work for them and I was looking forward to starting my job. During my work experience I was able to take part in various projects from casting music videos to short film. I had the opportunity to take lots of photos on this projects which were used by the production company and artist. For my personal project I chose to concentrate on the problems small companies face in times of recession. I noticed that to save money or to avoid spending money they employ a small number of people for their projects and also choose for the shoots places that are free like someone’s home or studio, but with a blue screen, which also saves money for them because finishing touches in videos are done in post production.

For my first piece of work I was invited to a casting and my role as a photographer was to take photos of the actors that came for auditions for Camille Sims video called “Years. The audition took place in a Brick Lane office and doing the audition was only the artist, director and producer Nathan Thays and I. They decided which actor would be best for the role, but they used my photographs to compare them in the act.

The second job I did was the shooting of the music video, to do this we went to a studio based at Ravensbourne College. In this studio was a blue screen, which is perfect for post production work. On the set worked only six people including the artist, actor, director, camera man, person responsible for lighting and myself. To get a 2 minute long video we spent 10 hours in the studio.

The next project they did was a short film called “Heroin (e)”. The movie is only 15 minutes long but to get this done we spent two days shooting. On the first day we all gathered in the home of the Link Production’s owner. More people were involved in this project; the crew was between 25-30 because they needed actors, makeup artist, sound technicians, costumes designers and much more... For the second day of shooting we met at the park near Elephant and Castle where we spent around 4 hours shooting. Afterwards we all went to Lilian Baileys (The Old School) where we continued to work till late into the night. This film will be shown at film festivals like Berlin, San Francisco or Cannes.

The last project I did with Link Production was a music video for an American rock band call “In this moment”. This is the biggest and most important project because the work they do is for Century Media Records and EMI Records, which are internationally known record companies. The premiere of the video will be the Download Festival 2009 at Donington Park this summer and the song is a cover of the Blondie song “Call me”. To work on this video we went to TT Visual studio in Camden Town. In this studio we also used a blue background for shooting. Fewer people worked on this set than “Heroin(e)”, because the role of actors was taken by the band. The crew was around ten people and they were very professional even though most of them were young they had previous experience working on music videos. To do this project we spent 14 hours at the studio, but it was a really pleasant day because they were all lovely people.

For me as a photographer the most work I did was during post production, it took me a few long days after each project to edit all the photos, but it was worth it because they were all happy with my performance and we will continue our cooperation in the future. I also had the opportunity to meet new people and make contacts which can be helpful in work, plus I had a really good time doing this work.

Some of the photos I took are uploaded on http://twitpic.com/photos/TeresaJozef, which everyone can see and leave me comments, something that would be really helpful for my future work. . I also use my university project as a my portfolio which you find under link http://teresa.clickgarden.net/index.html. Enjoy my work.
