STATUS OF LIBRARY AUTOMATION IN BMSCE LIBRARY BANGALORE - A STUDY PADMALATHA G. V Library professional: BMS College of Engineering Bangalore, India ABSTRACT This article tends to look onto library automation and the changing environment of library administration of BMS College of Engineering. Automation has resulted in a diminution in manpower. The library's operation and functioning has evolved from slow to versatile as a result of innovation. This article will describe the concept of library automation, its needs, and the many components that assist to automate a library. Students are not obliged to search from shelf to shelf for a publication. They just acquire their books while seated at a computer. 1. INTRODUCTION Libraries are designed to introduce a variety of innovations in order to grant information more swiftly. With the advent of new technologies in all of the library's housekeeping tasks, information communication technology [ICT] facilitates data collection, storage, organisation, processing, analysis, presentation, communication, and

dissemination. The area of library and information management has been greatly transformed by technology, particularly computer and communications technologies. The notion of Library Automation was born out of this progress in the library profession.

2. LIBRARY AUTOMATION In 1936, when the term "automation" was coined, coined, an automated system of work is referred to automated processes without human intervention. Traditionally, the terms Library Automation and Library Mechanization have been used indiscriminately. Today, though, the phrase library automation is prominently used without debate to refer to the use of technology to undertake some of the conventional library operations. Acquisitions, indexing, distribution, and sequential control are all traditional library tasks. However, it was thought to be more straightforward to simply correlate library automation with digitalization. Information querying, automatic categorization and extrapolating, automatic linguistic analysis, and other related topics are traditionally not included in the scope of library automation. Library automation necessitates collaboration between software developers and librarians. As a result, library automation refers to the use of technology in typical library services and infrastructure. Several libraries, particularly research and development and elite college libraries, have been automated to manage the massive amounts of data and information they have in order to provide comprehensive, precise, and insightful
