ABSTRACT The increasing use of passenger vehicles invites a serious discussion regarding environmental issues such as CO2 emission; this is one of the critical problems faced by current generation and the other issue is raising fuel price. Aerodynamic drag is mostly responsible for fuel consumption and CO2 emission (more drag, more fuel consumption and hence more CO2 emission). Around 60-65% of drag is because of exterior and under body of the passenger vehicle, and needs to have minimum for better stability. Current days, it is not preferable to do experiments and obtain aerodynamic results like CD and CL in connection with cost point of view, instead people prefer commercial software like Ansys to do aerodynamic analysis by using CFD, which is much cheaper compared to experiments. This paper first investigated coefficient of drag and lift for a BMW-M6-COUPE-2012 base model by using Ansys 15.0 and then investigated the effect of under body diffuser on CD and CL, different angles of diffuser starting from different locations (one set of angles starts 15mm from the rear end of the vehicle, one set of angles 30 mm from the rear end of the vehicle and another set of angles

remaining is due to wheels and cooling flows. Aerodynamic lift is also important for stability of a passenger car which

starts 50 mm from the rear end) were investigated. It is observed that using under body diffuser decreases both C D and CL significantly compared with base model. Many researchers studied effect of under body diffuser on C D and CL , but this paper attempts to give a relation between CD and CL and diffuser angles starting from different locations. KEYWORDS:

1. INTRODUCTION The need of personal comfort gives raise to the use of passenger vehicles, hence production of passenger vehicle has increased, and in turn increased the pollution level. This increased production of vehicles raises a serious concern regarding environmental pollution and fuel price hike. Figure 1 shows the production statistic of vehicles for the past 20 years. In order to reduce the pollution, fuel consumption per vehicle needs to be reduced and hence coefficient of drag of every vehicle needs to be reduced.
