For nearly three decades, the Cancer Institute of New Jersey and Rutgers School of Public Health have been respective leaders in health education, research, and cancer care, with a primary emphasis on the residents of New Jersey. These efforts have contributed quantitatively and qualitatively to reducing the state’s overall cancer burden.
However, notable disparate outcomes remain in our communities, often linked to race, ethnicity, geography, socioeconomic status, and other factors. So, in 2019, the Cancer Health Equity Center of Excellence (originally called the Center for Cancer Health Equity) was established as a formal partnership between the Cancer Institute of New Jersey and Rutgers School of Public Health, to lead the way in addressing and remedying these disparities in New Jersey.
