The Festive Season is around the corner! With October behind us, which was the most successful month at the club to date, we have had very hot days and are grateful for the recent rainfalls.
We hosted the Mauritian Open Pre Qualifier on 22 November 2019 after a hectic flooding over our lovely green golf course which caused lots of damage. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mark, our green keeper from Servest and his staff, for a speedy clean up and a job well done. We were able to still host the tournament the day after. The players and Sunshine Tour team were very happy. The Sunshine Tour Directors praised Centurion and staff for the clean up as well as fabulous food at the club. I would like to thank the Centurion management team and all the members. I would also like to thank Johan Bronkhorst for his 5 years of delegated work on the golf committee and as Vice Captain, as he has resigned and wish him all the best for his future endeavours. We welcome the new Vice Captain, Stefan Nel, who was voted in - congratulations on your new position on the golf committee. Thank you to all residents who support our country club and social events, it has been an awesome, successful year. Do not forget to book for the Xmas Dinner and Old Year’s Eve party. SODUKU COMPETITION
CHEF ADRIAN’S RECIPE OF THE MONTH
Ingredients Approximately 4 kg Woolworths beech-smoked traditional bone-in gammon 6 Peppercorns 4 Bay leaves 4 Onions For the maple syrup and blueberry glaze 370 g Fresh blueberries 5 T Brown sugar 1 Vanilla pod, split 2 T Water 250 ml Maple syrup For the roast shallots and figs 500 g French shallots, peeled 40 g Butter 1 T Brown sugar 2 T Olive oil Sea salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste 125 g Fresh blueberries 8 Fresh figs 125 ml Gammon glaze Method
Preheat the oven to 180°C. Fill a large saucepan with water and bring to a simmer, then add the gammon, peppercorns, bay leaves and onions ensuring the gammon is submerged. Simmer gently for 2½ hours. Remove the gammon from the water and pat dry using kitchen paper. Place on a roasting tray, brush with the glaze (reserve ½ cup) and place under the grill for 10 minutes, or until caramelised and golden brown. Serve with the roast shallots and figs. To make the glaze, heat the blueberries, sugar and vanilla pod in a saucepan and over a high heat for 2 to 3 minutes. Add the water, then cover and simmer for 1 to 2 minutes, or until the blueberries burst. Stir in the maple syrup. To make the roast shallots and figs, preheat the oven to 180°C. Toss the shallots with the butter, sugar, olive oil, salt and black pepper and place on a roasting tray. Roast for 20 minutes, then add the blueberries, figs and drizzle over the gammon glaze. Roast for a further 20 minutes. Cook’s note: A delicious bold burst of blueberries and figs add a wonderful fruity sweetness to the gammon.

Entries are to be placed inside the black box marked "Interface Competition" at the entrance of the restaurant against the wall. The 1st correct entry drawn will receive a R300.00 voucher to spend at the Club. The winner will be contacted by the CHOA

ANNUAL CORPORATE CHALLENGE FINALS
On the weekend of the 2nd & 3rd November the Annual Corporate Challenge Finals took place at Clarence Golf Course, three of our Corporate Members took part in the Finals, they were Discovery, Sephaku Cement and MSMM. The golf course is a little gem with beautiful views of the Drakensburg Mountain Range. During the first round MSMM played flawless golf, taking a considerable lead going in to the second round. Sephaku was the only team with a chance of catching them. MSMM managed to hold on the lead and in doing so they were crowned Centurion Country Club’s Corporate Challenge Winners. Well done to them.
SIKKEL’S GOLF DAY AND NIGHT GOLF On Saturday, 16th November, I hosted my annual Sikkel’s Golf Day and Night Golf. On behalf of the Pro Shop team, we would like to thank you all, the members, for your support throughout 2019. The day was well supported and with great prizes up for grabs. Congratulations to Althea Oosthuysen and Carl-Hans Arndt for winning the day on 50pts.

BETTER BALL STABLEFORD CHAMPIONSHIP
Warwick Wealth has been the sponsor of the Better Ball Competition since June 2019. All the winners of this year’s Better Ball Competitions battled it out on the course in hopes of being crowned the ultimate Champion on Saturday, 9 November 2019. In the end, it was Lefty Piagalis and Avgerinos Piagalis who took home the win – congratulations!

The day was followed by the annual Night Golf, with a 19h30 shotgun start. As always, the evening was filled with fun and laughter. The prize-giving for the event took place at 22h00 and this year we decided to do a lucky draw to thank our loyal members for participating in this great event.
MAKING HIS MARK ON THE 17TH
On Saturday 16th November, Mark Fichardt hit his second hole-in-one of his career on the island green 17th. As one of our signatures holes, this makes for a great story. Well done Mark!

BLESHOENDERS AWARDS DINNER
On Thursday 14th November, the Blesshoenders had their championship event and annual awards dinner. With the theme being “Back to the 60s� it made for some interesting outfits worn that evening.
