Here are my five favourite pieces from some artists and designers who are my inspiration. They are all prolific, accomplished practitioners who work in a multidisciplinary framework, exploring ideas of process, history, craftsmanship and new technologies. 01

Vitra Standard chair by Jean Prouvé Hella Jongerius
Paper Planes chair Nipa Doshi & Jonathan Levien
Fishbone tables for Moroso Patricia Urquiola
Heat-coloured mild steel bracelet Mari Funaki
Cosmo rug Paola Lenti
Hella Jongerius was commissioned to recolour the beautiful Vitra Prouvé collection. Her process is so inspiring, especially her work in ceramics, developing textiles, rugs and colour theories. I love this idea of traditional or established companies or products commissioning experimentation and research that can rejuvenate the direction of products. Image courtesy of Space
Folded graph paper was the starting point for this chair that sits alone or as a pair to create a lounge piece. In classic Moroso style, the designers have developed with Kvadrat some fabric specifically for the chair. The piece has the lightness of paper, but envelops you when seated. The design intent is clear in the fi nal piece. Image courtesy of Hub
While looking through my favourite Patricia Urquiola pieces, I discovered a string of collaborations. One in particular was her work with Budri – a traditional Italian company – where she has used fragments of precious stone in the design. It seems that her work keeps evolving, while still being experimental and accessible. Fishbone tables are a daring use of materials and colours, made with cast acrylic to imitate natural material. Mari designed the windows with me at Makers Mark Jewellery Gallery until one day she said she was starting her own Gallery Funaki. I have always loved her work. This piece was in a large exhibition in Ian Potter after she had passed away. Image by Jeremy Dillon
This is a rug made from rope and resistant to the atmospheric elements of sun, pool and seawater. Paola Lenti is another amazing designer who has become a master of colour and simple pared back furniture and rug design. Her practice is researchbased and the work is always executed to perfection. The collection speaks of pure rest and a kind of special opulence. When I sit in her pieces, I am transported to a warm holiday destination! Image courtesy of dedece
