2011 Season Outlook With lofty goals entering the season, the Auburn University at Montgomery baseball team has the pieces in place to make a run at the league title and into the postseason. In addition to being the five-year anniversary of their last appearance in the NAIA World Series, the Senators also have not had a losing season since 1988, so expectations for the program remain high. “Guys like Justin Williams, Bruce Alter and Matt Arrighi are tough to replace, but we feel like have quality players who can do the job in place,” Associate Head Coach Marty Lovrich said. “On the mound, I think we made significant improvement and now have options, depending on the situation, in a close game. We are excited to get started, but know that we will be tested early and will need to solidify our starting line up in the first couple weeks.” Senior Sam Judah paces the returners after winning the Senators’ offensive Triple Crown last season with a .428 batting average, nine home runs and 55 runs batted in. Judah, a first-team All-SSAC performer last season, also made 12 appearances on the mound for AUM last season, posting a 1-0 record and three saves, while limiting opposing hitters to just a .219 batting average in 17 2/3 innings. The Senators also return first-team all-conference performer and twoyear starter Michael Dugan at catcher. Dugan was the lone AUM player to play in all 51 games last season, posting a .320 batting average, with two home runs and 27 runs batted in, all while providing stability behind the plate. The infield returns several experienced players, including potential starters at both positions on the right side. Senior Todd Cherry returns and will see time at first base, while junior Jorden Johnson is the top candidate to start at second base. Several newcomers have pushed for playing time around the horn, as juniors Logan Remson, Senior Sam Judah Chezz McCann and Hunter Cross are all in contention for considerable playing time. Seniors Chad Mansmann and Branden Kelley will also provide increased depth. Judah will patrol right field and will be joined by senior Will Sellers and junior newcomers Brian Wheeler and Rusty Todd in the outfield. Wheeler is the favorite to start in center field, while Todd and Sellers will battle for the starting nod in left. On the mound, the Senators return their top two arms in seniors Josh Smith and Kyle Mitchell. Smith posted team-highs with five wins and a 3.34 earned run average. Mitchell appeared in a team-leading 19 games, striking out 62 in 64 2/3 innings. Junior College All-American and South Carolina transfer Wes Cook, as well as juniors Cody Hall and Forrest Holifield will also compete for a spot in the Senators’ starting rotation. Junior Tyler Dent is penciled in as the closer for the team, while Judah can also provide a power arm out of the bullpen. “Obviously, our goal is to get to the postseason,” Lovrich added. “This year we have quality depth at every position and competition will only make our players better. It will certainly be fun to see how our guys respond to a tough schedule and the expectations that we are putting on them.”

THE INFIELD The big question mark heading into the season is on the left side of the infield, following the loss of Williams at shortstop and Alter at third base.

4

However, Lovrich feels confident with the pieces in place to fill the void at both positions. “We had to play some guys in unnatural positions last season,” Lovrich said. “We have some athletic guys who can play multiple positions, but overall, I think we have everyone in the position they are most comfortable.” McCann and Cross are the favorites to take over for Williams and Alter based on their fall performance. “Chezz was an all-conference performer at LBW Community College and a guy we have known for a long time,” Lovrich said. “Right now, we are projecting him to be our everyday shortstop. We are counting on him offensively, defensively and in a leadership role.” Providing depth at shortstop is Kelley, who hit .345 in 16 games last season. “Hunter is our projected starter and is a prototypical third baseman,” Lovrich added. “He is a big guy with a lot of pop in his bat. He is not necessarily a home run hitter, but will hit more line drives.” Sophomore utility man Baxley Raines also gives the Senators an additional option. Raines, who joined the program from Alabama Southern Community College in Monroeville, Ala., originally signed with Troy University out of high school and is able to play several different infield positions. At second base, Johnson returns following a sophomore campaign in which he was effective both at the plate and in the field. Johnson finished the 2010 season with a .331 batting average, 30 runs scored, seven sacrifice hits and a .426 on-base percentage. Mansmann, who joined the Senators following a stellar two-year career at Lurleen B. Wallace Community College in Andalusia, Ala., will also see action at second base. Senior Derek Webster will provide added depth at the position. “Jorden and Chad Mansmann will battle at second base, and that competition is great to have,” Lovrich said. “Jorden is a righty and Chad is a lefty, so both will see action depending on the situation. The starting nod at first base appears to be between Cherry and Remson. Cherry, who hit .377 in 48 games last season, appears to be the front runner, while Remson will also see significant action at first base. Remson joined the Senators from Calhoun Community College in Decatur, Ala., where he was a two-time second-team All-Northern League selection. “First base was a great battle in the fall,” Lovrich said. “Logan led our team in hits and RBIs this fall and Todd is probably our best defensive first baseman. Regardless of who is our starter, I expect both Logan and Todd’s bat to be in our line up a considerable amount of the time.” Junior Brittian Schultz will provide depth at the position.

THE CATCHERS For the past two seasons, Dugan, a junior all-conference performer, has done the majority of the catching for the Senators. Even with him penciled in as the everyday starter, the 2011 season offers options for AUM following the addition of junior catcher Andrew Walker to the roster. “We are in much better shape than we were last year with really only having one catcher,” Lovrich said. “Michael Dugan played in 50 games last year, which is good and bad. He is a solid bat in our line up and a smart player, but the wear and tear brought on by Junior Michael Dugan catching started to catch

2011 AUM BASEBALL MEDIA GUIDE

2011 Season Outlook up with him late in the year.” Dugan finished his sophomore season with a .320 batting average, two home runs and 27 runs batted in, while committing just eight errors in 409 chances behind the plate. Dugan is also a leader for the Senators, both on the field and off. Walker, a transfer from Gadsden State Community College, provides the Senators an insurance policy and also allows the flexibility of giving Dugan a day off. “Andrew Walker had a really solid fall for us,” Lovrich said of the newcomer. “He will need to continue to improve offensively, but he is as good a ‘catch-and-throw’ guy as there is in our league.”

THE OUTFIELD Much like the infield, the Senators have a variety of options in the outfield, depending on the opposition. “Our outfield is going to be very unique this year,” Lovrich said. “We have a lot of guys who can play all three outfield positions, giving us plenty of flexibility, depending on the situation.” Judah, the top returner for the Senators in 2011, finished last season as the team leader in batting average (.428), home runs (9) and runs batted in (55). The Ozark, Ala., native will be asked to duplicate, if not exceed, those numbers again in 2011. “We need Sam to lead by example this season,” Lovrich said of the allconference performer. “He had a strong junior season and we are hoping he can build on that and improve this year. He is a guy who will be in our line up every day and has the ability to carry our team.” Joining Judah in the outfield are talented newcomers Wheeler and Todd. Wheeler is penciled in as the starter in center field, while Todd has the ability to play all three outfield positions. “Brian and Rusty are both guys who have the ability to be really good players for us,” Lovrich added. “Brian glides in the outfield and can provide some pop at the plate, and Rusty was one of the toughest hitters to get out during the fall. Both of these guys will see significant playing time this year for us.” Sellers will also provide the coaching staff with a fourth option, as he appeared in 40 games last season, hitting .299, with two home runs and 45 runs batted in. Fellow senior Charlie Lester will also factor into the equation after hitting .356 in 73 at bats, while adding a team-best 12 stolen bases before suffering a season-ending injury last season. “Charlie had an injury last season that really limited him,” Lovrich said. “If he is healthy, he will have an opportunity to win the left field spot and hit leadoff for us. Will returns following a very respectable year last season and will also factor into the rotation quite a bit.” Adding to the depth at the position are seniors Chris Clements and Matthew Ingram, both of which saw action last season for the Senators. Juniors Tyler Jordan and Colton Mathis will also compete for playing time.

THE PITCHERS The 2011 Senators pitching staff will be incredibly deep, as the roster features 20 players who could potentially see action on the hill. The depth is a premium for AUM, which lost five players who appeared in 10 or more games last season. “Even though we lost several experienced pitchers last season, we have a lot of good arms that we can throw out there in any given situation,” Lovrich said of the pitching staff. “We have a nice balance of right handers and lefties, which will give us options.” The Senators return their top two arms from last season in Smith and Mitchell, both of which will be expected to maintain their strong play. “Kyle and Josh are our two most experienced pitchers coming back and have a good chance at earning a spot in the starting rotation,” Lovrich said. “Those two guys were as good as we threw out there last year and will be counted on again this year. Kyle was the guy at the end of the year that we wanted on the mound. Josh is a workhorse. He throws a lot of pitches and has good command. We will need him to pitch at the same level that he ended the 2010 season.” Other potential starters for AUM include Cook, Hall and Holifield.

“Wes is a guy we have known forever,” said Lovrich. “He was a guy who was a no-brainer to try to recruit. He had a tough semester at South Carolina and decided to transfer. He seems like the missing piece to our pitching staff. We knew we had a lot of good arms that could present some tough match ups, but we were lacking that true ace and I think Wes will fill that void. He has three pitches that he can control and locate. I think he is going to make the pitchers around him even better.” “Cody and Forrest both had strong showings in the fall and will also compete for a spot in the starting rotation,” Lovrich added. “Forrest pitched in some big games at Shelton State and we are anticipating he will be a starter for us, to.” He probably has the best arm on the team, but the best thing about him is when he is Junior Wes Cook on the mound nothing seems to bother him. Cody is tenacious and will bring a workman’s mentality to the mound each time he takes the ball.” The bullpen features a balance of experience and newcomers, all of which are expected to contribute. Redshirt-freshman Chase Patterson is beginning his second season with the Senators, after he was granted a medical hardship last season following an injury. “Chase Patterson is a guy who can start for us and be effective out of the bullpen,” Lovrich said of the redshirt freshman. “He is a three-pitch guy who could do some great things before leaving AUM.” Also returning is senior Craig Miller, who is expected to be a work horse for AUM in 2011. “We dropped Craig’s arm slot a little and he responded with an outstanding fall,” added Lovrich. “He is a guy that I could see leading us in appearances at the end of the year.” Four talented newcomers will also factor into the mix coming out of the pen. “Nathan Brown is a control pitcher who works his fastball off his breaking ball,” Lovrich continued. “He holds runners well and could potentially be a guy to setup our closer. Colton Mathis was a guy who played outfield every day, but did not pitch a lot in junior college. He has the best arm on the team and could factor in the closers discussion if he is able to keep making strides. Will Ruffin transferred from Central Alabama Community College and was relied on pretty heavily there. He will be a situational guy for us and I anticipate will make a lot of appearances. William Shell has a lot of movement on his pitches, especially on his breaking ball and sinker. He will see some action at the end of the games and will be a match-up guy for us this year.” Seniors Brent Amburn and Tanner Gordon, as well as junior Daniel Selph also give the Senators three left handers coming out of the pen. “Brent probably has as good of stuff as anyone on our team,” Lovrich said. “Tanner has good stuff and, when he pitches in the strike zone, is a guy who can throw a couple of effective innings for us. Daniel also has electric stuff and, if he is in the strike zone, he will pitch in a lot of ball games for us. The big key is maintaining his command.” Battling for the closer spot will be Judah and Dent. “In an ideal world, we would only use Sam in the ninth inning and only with a lead,” Lovrich said. “He is probably as good as any closer in our league and brings intensity each time he is on the mound. Tyler will audition for the closer role, but could also be a potential setup man. He has the ability to pitch a couple days in a row and has a bulldog mentality on the mound.”

The Southern States Athletic Conference and NAIA

The 2010-11 academic year marks the 11th year for Auburn Montgomery athletics competing as a member of the Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC). The newly expanded conference now showcases 16 member institutions located throughout the southeast, including the states of Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina and Tennessee. The SSAC was established in 1949 as the Georgia Intercollegiate Athletics Conference with six member schools, including Oglethorpe University, Berry College, Valdosta State University, North Georgia College and State University, Piedmont College and Georgia Southern University. In 1980 the conference was renamed the Georgia Athletic Conference and remained so until 1988, when its expansion into Georgia’s bordering states brought the need to change its name to the Georgia-Alabama-Carolina Conference (GACC). In 2003, the official name was again changed to the Southern States Athletic Conference. The conference membership has worked for more than 60 years to maintain a level of competition, excellence and quality that appropriately represents its 16 member institutions. Since the conference’s inception and affiliation with the NAIA, 21 SSAC teams and 10 individuals have claimed national titles, while 22 teams have finished national runnersup. Since the inception of its athletic program in 1975, Auburn Montgomery has been a member of the National As-

sociation of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). In those 35 years, AUM has claimed 19 national championships, and six of the school’s eight varsity programs have appeared in a national championship game. The NAIA, headquartered in Olathe, Kan., is a national organization with nearly 300 institutional members and over 60,000 student-athletes across the United States and Canada. Throughout its history, the NAIA has provided strong leadership for all aspects of intercollegiate athletics. Since its introduction of the intercollegiate championship of basketball in 1937, the NAIA has maintained its elite standards while administering first-rate athletics programs. The NAIA has continuously affirmed its commitment to equality by becoming the first national organization to offer institutional postseason opportunities to black studentathletes in 1948, to allow institutional membership to historically black institutions in 1953, and on Aug. 1, 1980, to vote in favor of the establishment of athletics programs for women. Today, the NAIA strengthens its commitment to studentathletes and strives to enrich their college experience by supporting academic achievement and character development. The NAIA approaches sport and activity as an opportunity to intentionally teach beyond the fundamentals through the philosophy of the NAIA Champions of Character program. By applying the five core values of respect, responsibility, integrity, servant leadership and sportsmanship, the NAIA has the ability to maximize talent to the benefit of each individual.

HISTORY OF THE UNIVERSITY Auburn University at Montgomery was established in 1967 by Act 403 of the Alabama Legislature. This action resulted from the request of the citizens of the Montgomery area to establish an additional degree-granting institution to serve Montgomery and the surrounding counties. The first classes were offered in September 1969. A 500-acre tract on the east side of Montgomery was purchased for the site of the new campus. Two architectural firms developed the master plan for the new campus and designed the original buildings, which were occupied in the fall of 1971. A broad-based academic institution, AUM is organized into five schools: Business, Education, Liberal Arts, Nursing and Sciences, while the Air University Graduate Program and Division of Continuing Education offer additional educational opportunities.

40

In 1973 AUM was accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools as an operationally separate institution. In 1978, 1988, 1998 and 2008, accreditation was reaffirmed by the Southern Association. MISSION STATEMENT Auburn Montgomery’s mission, as the metropolitan campus of Auburn University, a land-grant institution, is to foster and exemplify excellence in education through instruction, research and service. Auburn Montgomery blends the traditional views of the university as a community of scholars with the contemporary view of the university as an integral part of the surrounding community, state and region. AUM provides academic programs that are characteristic of the finest traditions of scholarship and consistent with the responsibility of the university to provide support for the functions of government, regional economic growth and cultural enrichment through the arts. WHY CHOOSE AUBURN MONTGOMERY? Today’s economic crisis doesn’t have to cost you your college education. This year alone, Auburn Montgomery offered students more than $4 million in Pell Grants and another $20 million in student loans. Couple that with challenging classes and small class sizes, and Auburn Montgomery can provide you with an excellent education at a price you can afford. A STUDENT-TO-FACULTY RATIO OF 15:1 At Auburn Montgomery you won’t spend your freshman year in classes filled with 300 of your peers. Our classes are deliberately kept small (an average of 20 students), giving you more personal attention and allowing your professors to get to know you. BIG CAMPUS BENEFITS WITH A SMALL CAMPUS FEEL With programs of study in more than 90 areas, Auburn Montgomery’s courses run the gamut from accounting to sociology. We have sororities and fraternities for those who want to go Greek and numerous active clubs and organizations. Plus, your destination is never more than a five-minute walk on campus. FOUR-DAY WEEKS At Auburn Montgomery, many students take classes just four days a week – Monday through Thursday – making it easier for them to work, get home on the weekends or even travel. But students also find AUM can accommodate just about any schedule since classes are offered days, nights, weekends and online. We even offer a growing number of mini-term classes, allowing students to progress more rapidly. CUTTING-EDGE PROGRAMS Auburn Montgomery’s Storage Area Network Center of Excellence teaches information technology students to manage networks that store vast quantities of digital data. One of few

AUM ATHLETICS FACILITIES Since the installation of its athletic department in 1975, Auburn Montgomery has been know throughout the NAIA for its competitiveness on the field and court of play. Furthermore, AUM offers some of the best facilities in the Southeast to accommodate that competitive spirit. The AUM Physical Education Complex serves as the venue for all AUM men’s and women’s basketball home games. Originally built in 1976, the gymnasium underwent a face-lift during the Summer of 2010. Renovations included a refinishing of the gym floor as well as the installation of new bleachers that seat 2,760. The newest addition to the list of AUM athletics facilities comes with the newly built on-campus softball field, on which the AUM softball team was able to play all home games during the 2010 season. The field is part of the AUM Softball Complex, which will eventually include the construction of a press box, concessions stand, locker rooms and offices for the AUM softball coaching staff.

The AUM Tennis Complex, built in 1976, features a newly refinished playing surface for each of its 10 courts. Aside from serving as the site for all AUM men’s and women’s home tennis matches, the AUM Tennis Complex also serves as a host site for the annual Small College Blue & Gray Classic held by the city of Montgomery. The AUM Soccer Complex has undergone several updates since its construction in 1985. In the early 2000’s new Olympic-style goals were installed along with a new scoreboard in 2006. Several landscaping renovations have taken place at the facility as well. The AUM Baseball Complex serves as the home field for Senators baseball and features stadium seating, a grandstand, press box and concessions stand for the convenience of Senator baseball fans. The complex has served as host site for the NAIA Region XIII Tournament in 2006 as well as the 2007 SSAC Baseball tournament.

AUM Administration

Chancellor John Veres Auburn University at Montgomery, 1976

Auburn Montgomery Chancellor John G. Veres III is no stranger to AUM, having received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in psychology in 1976 and 1978, and he has worked for over 30 years with the university. Veres has been serving as chancellor since his appointment in May 2006. “I’m proud to be an AUM graduate and the first graduate of AUM to have the opportunity to serve the university as chancellor” says Veres. Veres received his Ph. D. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology in 1983 and has published extensively on human resources management topics, including over 40 articles in scholarly journals, as well as nine book chapters, two edited volumes, numerous technical reports and a book entitled “The Challenge of Front Line Management: Flattened Organizations in the New Economy.” He has consulted in over 80 employment discrimination lawsuits, testifying on assessing adverse impact, selection procedure validity and other issues on equal employment opportunity. He currently serves as special master to Federal District Judge C. Lynwood Smith in the Northern District of Alabama, and has served as the Court’s expert to federal district courts in Arkansas and Georgia. He has long been involved in community affairs. He currently serves on the boards of directors of the Alabama Technology Foundation, the Alabama World Affairs Council, the Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce, the Montgomery Area YMCA and Seton Haven. Veres also serves on the Governor’s Commission for Action in Alabama’s Black Belt and as technical consultant to the Alabama Commission on Government Accountability. Veres is married to the former Beth Louise Sullivan. They have three children – Erin, John and Olivia – and two grandchildren, Cole and Lena.

Athletic Director Steve Crotz University of Missouri, 1979 Steve Crotz is entering his third year as full-time athletics director at Auburn Montgomery after serving two stints as the interim athletic director in 2000 and 2007. In his current capacity, Crotz has worked with the AUM administration to inaugurate a softball program, as well as to expand the athletic department staff to include a head and assistant softball coach and an athletic trainer. “Under his leadership, private contributions have increased significantly,” said Chancellor John Veres. “As we find ourselves in troubling economic times, his combination of commitment to excellence and financial acumen serve us well.” Crotz was no stranger to AUM before serving as athletic director. For 12 seasons, Crotz served as the head women’s basketball coach at Auburn Montgomery. Crotz compiled a record of 284-116 while at AUM, winning four regular season conference championships, two conference tournament titles, and advancing to the NAIA National Tournament 10 times. Crotz was a 10-time conference/region coach of the year and was named the Ikon/Women’s Basketball Coaches Association National Coach of the Year following his team’s national runner-up finish for the 1999-00 season. Prior to AUM, Crotz spent five years as athletic director and six years as head women’s basketball coach at Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Mo., and in October 2009 was inducted into the Lindenwood Hall of Fame. Crotz received his bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Missouri in 1979 and his master’s degree in secondary education from Missouri-St. Louis in 1984. He and his wife, the former Daphne Hozee, reside in Montgomery with their two children, Kelsey and Jacob.

The City of Montgomery Montgomery is at once a friendly southern city of grace and charm and a dynamic leader for economic growth and strength in the Southeast. Historic homes rest in peaceful repose next to towering modern structures of glass and steel with perfect harmony. Lush city parks boasting world-class sports facilities are nestled just a short hop from a network of roads, rails and runways that transport people and goods throughout the country. Montgomery really does have something for everyone. As Alabama’s Capital City, Montgomery is the seat of state government and the catalyst for decisions that are far-reaching, not just when the legislature is in session, but throughout the year. People from throughout the state and even the nation come here to meet with lawmakers and present their idea or lobby their position, hoping to influence the direction of progress in the coming years. In addition to its turnkey position in governmental affairs, Montgomery holds a unique position in concerns of military training, technology, defense and education as the location of Maxwell-Gunter Air Force Base. Maxwell Air Force Base is the home of Air University, one of the military’s premiere educational facilities. Officers from all branches of the armed forces attend classes here. Gunter is the location of the 754th Electronics Systems Group (ELSG), which provides technical and customer service support as well as acquisition and program management oversight of over 160 Combat Support Information Technology (IT) systems. The ELSG also manages the Air Force standard desktop environment, and serves as the USAF lead for software program management under the auspices of the Department of Defense Enterprise Software Initiative. Montgomery is a city of vast economic diversity, with state government, the military, regional government, wholesale and retail trade, agricultural support and industry providing a well-balanced economic environment. The city’s role as a regional trade center is firmly established, serving as a wholesaling and distribution gateway to the Southeast in addition to the 22-county central Alabama

area. In 2002, Montgomery got the good news that Hyundai would locate its first United States automobile manufacturing facility in the Capital City. The construction of Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama’s 2-million-squarefoot automotive manufacturing facility was completed in 2004. Hyundai’s first North American plant employs over 2,000 workers and produces the Hyundai Santa Fe and the Hyundai Sonata. Hyundai suppliers in the Montgomery metropolitan area have created more than $221 million in capital investment and 2,264 jobs. Area hospitals offer comprehensive medical services and facilities, as well as cutting-edge specialty services and practices. Montgomery residents have access to neonatal intensive care, open-heart surgical and cardiac treatment facilities and physicians, rehabilitative and therapeutic orthopedic medicine, cancer treatment centers and more. Additionally, there are many walk-in clinics that offer general medicine and private practice physician offices with services ranging from family practice to internal medicine and ophthalmology. Montgomery and surrounding area veterans also are served by the VA Medical Center. Things to See and Do Montgomery offers a wealth of recreational and cultural activities for people of all ages and interests. The city has been dubbed the “birthplace of Civil War and Civil Rights.” It was the first capital of the Confederacy, and the location from which the telegram was sent that started battle in the War Between the States. A star on the steps of the State Capitol building (which is on the National Register of Historic Places) marks the spot where Jefferson Davis was sworn in as president of the Confederate States of America. Montgomery also is the location of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s pulpit, from which he preached the gospel of non-violent revolution in the fight for Civil Rights, and is the site of the Montgomery Bus Boycott, which sparked the movement for equal rights throughout the nation. The city is home to the Alabama Shakespeare Festival, the fifth largest Shakespeare Festival in the world, which draws visitors from throughout the world. Also located in Blount Cultural Park is the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts, which houses an extensive permanent collection, including Old Master prints by such artists as Rembrandt, Caneletto and Goya, and noted American artists John Singer Sargent and Edward Hopper. People of all ages will be fascinated by a visit to Old Alabama Town, where they can see how early Alabamians lived and worked, or the Alabama Department of Archives and History, with its wealth of information. Children will be especially delighted by the archives’ “Grandma’s Attic” exhibit, which is full of hands-on activities, costumes and games. and centers. Eastdale Mall boasts the area’s only indoor ice skating rink, in addition to a wide variety of shops and eateries. The Shoppes at EastChase is a “lifestyle center” with upscale retailers and restaurants. And there’s so much more. Montgomery has many shops and restaurants sure to suit any visitor’s whim. Sports and Recreation In February 2003, Montgomerians were thrilled to learn that the AA baseball team owned by Orlando Rays Baseball Inc., which is owned by the Major League Baseball team the Tampa Bay Rays, had been acquired to play ball in Montgomery. The team was dubbed the Montgomery Biscuits and a new $26 million baseball stadium opened

in Spring 2004 beside the Alabama River. The stadium is a key element in the city’s ongoing Riverfront development and downtown revitalization project, with downtown and riverfront investment now totaling more than $900 million. A riverwalk and new convention center and hotel, The Renaissance, have added more appeal to the downtown area. Additionally, the city’s Parks and Recreation Department operates many facilities located throughout the city, hosting such activities as golf, swimming, tennis, softball and other sports, plus artistic and creative endeavors, physical fitness classes, activities for those with physical or mental disabilities, and educational programs, including a planetarium. The city’s Cramton Bowl hosts high school and college football games, as well as special events, and Paterson Field provides facilities for high school and college baseball games. Visitors to the River Region can also visit the nearby Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail in Prattville. The trail is recognized as one of the finest golf experiences anywhere.
