Frisco is becoming ‘the modern home of American golf’ now that the PGA of America’s headquarters and two championship courses are here. The entire PGA campus spans more than 600 acres. If that’s not your style, there are more than a half dozen golf courses here – from resort-style to public links. We’ve even got disc golf, as well as the largest skate park in North Texas and more than 70 miles of hike and bike trails. We’re also known as Sports City USA because we’re home to six ‘pro’ teams and organizations (including Dallas Cowboys, Dallas Stars and FC Dallas) which practice or play in state-of-the-art venues. Besides being home to pro-sports, Ford Center at The Star, Comerica Center and Toyota Stadium also host special events including festivals, concerts and theatre productions. Other great places to play include the National Soccer Hall of Fame, TrainTopia and the National Videogame Museum. If shopping centers are your kind of playground, check out more than nine million square feet of retail and restaurants anchored by IKEA, Centre at Preston Ridge and Stonebriar Centre. Located inside Stonebriar Centre, KidZania is a city where kids get to ‘try out’ what they want to be when they grow up. Children choose from more than 100 role-playing, career adventures. Head to historic downtown Frisco, known as The Rail District, for quaint shopping and dining. Even more shopping and dining shines at The Star, an entertainment district lined with patio and destination dining, specialty shops and even some history stops as you follow the outdoor Ring of Honor Walk, a nod to legendary Dallas Cowboys. Not far away, continue walking around Hall Park, home to the Texas Sculpture Garden. The entire collection includes more than 200 works, making it the largest private collection of contemporary art made available to the public. That’s not all, we collect art, too. Our city displays more than 80 artworks throughout our city. So feed your soul and spirit with so many ways to play! You’ll quickly find you can’t stop smiling while you’re here. Come get your ‘play’ on!

As professional sports organizations continue to expand and innovate in Frisco, many people trace the city’s “Sports City USA” roots back to the influence of the Hunt Family, including Dan Hunt, longtime President of FC Dallas. The Hunt Family brought FC Dallas to Frisco and made Toyota Stadium a reality. Later, they were the driving force in adding the National Soccer Hall of Fame, the first time a Hall of Fame for a major sport has been built into a stadium. “Frisco is a community that has the cando spirit,” says Hunt. “They took a giant leap of faith with our family to build this soccer facility, the third one ever in Major League

Hunt has put his own significant stamp on the sports industry, though, having established FC Dallas as the leader in youth soccer development in North America. “What’s truly unique about what we’ve built here is that the professionals train right alongside our third division team, North Texas SC,” explains Hunt. “Our FCD Academy and other youth teams get to be

after throughout the country. Born without hands, most of Blair’s childhood was spent in the hospital, where he enjoyed sketching his favorite superheroes and dreaming of becoming an artist. People were not always shy in expressing their doubts. Having developed grit and determination early on, the naysayers served as motivation to achieve his dream. Today, Blair is known for his highly detailed portraits. Upon receiving an invitation to create a large-scale mural at J.Theodore restaurant, he hesitated. “I lost my mom to ALS not long ago,” Blair says. “She always nudged me to do murals, but I avoided them because I was far more comfortable painting on canvas. When the opportunity to do the J.Theodore mural came along, a voice inside of me said, ‘Now’s the time, do it.’” The result is a rave-worthy, remarkable mural of a man, inspired by the father of J. Theodore’s owner Derek Simms. “I’ve taken some of the things that I learned from that project and incorporated it into my other artwork,” Blair says. “I’m always trying to take my artwork to the next level.” By day, Blair is an IT Project Manager at Scottish Rite Hospital, where he aspires to be a source of encouragement to the kids. “In the evening, I switch gears and paint using the other part of my brain. The painting and the technology balance each other out.”

TASTE THE MODERN SIDE OF MEXICAN CUISINE LEE & PATRICIA GONZALES Owners, La Finca Coffee and Bakery lafincacoffeebakery.com Although Lee and Patricia Gonzales have lived in Frisco for many years, it was a nine and a half year departure that revealed their entrepreneurial future in Texas. They left the area to serve as full-time missionaries in Mexico. While there, they were inspired to open a coffee shop as a means of connecting with the community. Over time, they learned to roast their own coffee, expanded the menu and became a full-service scratch kitchen. When it was time to return to Frisco, they were eager to emulate the concept in the Rail District. “We didn’t want to change the recipes just because we changed countries,” says Lee. “We brought the exact recipes we were using there from local chefs and cooks we worked with in Mexico.”
Frisco Fine Mexican Cuisine
With that vision in mind, they opened La Finca Coffee and Bakery, a Mexican-inspired scratch kitchen and bakery in the heart of downtown Frisco. On the menu you’ll find freshly roasted coffee, sourced from farmers they have personal relationships with in Mexico. Bakery, breakfast, and lunch options feature authentic Mexican

recipes and freshly made breads. Lee shares, “People are amazed that we have the quality of a great coffee shop as well as food that meets the standard of any restaurant.” Authenticity is important to Lee and Patricia,

not only for the menu, but on the service side as well. “People want to be known,” says Lee. “We want to be a place where someone knows your name, knows your story. La Finca should feel like home, not only aesthetically, but relationally.”

SCOTT HOFFNER Chef & Owner, Didi’s Downtown didisdowntown.com Family-friendly and full of personality, Didi’s Downtown is a historic home-turned-restaurant with scratch-made food, live music and a reputable Chef who is all about hospitality. Born and raised in the area, Chef Scott Hoffner has worked in notable restaurants all over the country. Ultimately, his heart remained in Texas and downtown Frisco had the small-town vibe he was looking for to open his own place. The restaurant’s namesake is Hoffner’s mom Diane, who was lovingly nicknamed Didi by her grandkids. On the exterior of the building, you’ll find murals painted by widely-recognized Patrick Ganino, one of Hoffner’s childhood friends. Didi’s menu features all of your American favorites, made with the best ingredients available. The appetizers take bar food to the next level with offerings such as Philly Cheesesteak Egg Rolls and Tempura Fried Artichoke Hearts. Main dish options include the Jalapeno Barbeque Burger, Texican Chicken and the one they’re not shy to call “The Best Meatloaf.” Sit at the conversational bar, on the lively patio, or in a cozy booth. Come for brunch, lunch or dinner. Hoffner says, “From amazing food and libations to a variety of live music and exciting events, Didi’s has something for everyone.” You’ll often find Hoffner visiting with customers to make sure they feel welcome and have a positive experience. He shares, “At Didi’s Downtown, I want you to feel as if you’re sitting in your living room or backyard where you can relax and feel what hometown hospitality is all about.”

Oprah called them one of her favorite things and helped make them famous— Cookie Society’s oversized gourmet cookies indulgently made with real butter in rotating, elevated flavors. Marissa and Jeff Allen are the tastemakers behind the Frisco-based brand, with Marissa serving as the chief recipe developer and Jeff, her business partner (and taste tester). Their entrepreneurial journey began when Jeff Allen, an 8-year NFL veteran, challenged his wife Marissa to bake the perfect cookie. Never one to back down from a dare, she went to work. That first perfect cookie inspired over 70 other flavors, such as Banana Pudding and Salted Caramel. “When we started, it was just my wife doing something she loves,” says Jeff. “We didn’t imagine it blowing up to where we have people traveling from all over just to come to our cookie shop. We knew we had a good product, but to get the recognition we’ve received is humbling. We’re so appreciative and thankful for it.” While the Frisco shop stays busy with foot traffic and delivery orders, the Allens receive requests from all over the country. Jeff’s NFL connections have resulted in many orders, most recently from Demarcus Ware. “I looked up to him as a player,” Jeff says, “so it’s really great.” Marissa is always playing with new

He jokes, “That’s a tough question as it would be like picking your favorite children. There are a few stand-out pieces which shouldn’t be missed when visiting. ‘The Headlines Screamed, Baithouse Disappears’ by Texas artist Joe Barrington is a large-scale steel sculpture of a fish with a house in its jaws in one of our lakes. ‘Blanco #17’ by Houstonbased Mac Whitney is striking, as are several
