A-MAY-zing is an understatement when describing the month of May in Frisco!
The Academy of County Music Awards, featuring country music’s biggest stars, takes to the stage at The Star in May.
Frisco is also the ‘modern home of American golf’ now that PGA of America calls Frisco home. The 2023 KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship will be held in May and mark the first of more than 25 scheduled PGA of America Championships to be contested at PGA Frisco. But, Frisco is amazing year-round!
Besides the 600-acre PGA campus, there are more than a half dozen golf courses in Frisco, from resort-style to public links. We’ve even got disc golf at B.F. Phillips community park.
Sports is part of Frisco’s DNA, so to speak. In fact, one of our nicknames is Sports City USA. Besides PGA of America, six ‘pro’ teams including the Dallas Cowboys, Dallas Stars, and FC Dallas also call Frisco home. Those teams are headquartered at Ford Center at The Star, Comerica Center, and Toyota Stadium where you’ll often find festivals, concerts, and theatrical productions underway.
For the perfect blend of history and entertainment, checkout The Rail District, National Soccer Hall of Fame, TrainTopia, the National Videogame Museum, and the Ring of Honor Walk, weaving through The Star entertainment district.
We like to say even shopping is a sport in Frisco! There’s more than nine million square feet of retail and restaurants anchored by IKEA, Centre at Preston Ridge, and Stonebriar Centre mall. Inside the mall, KidZania o ers kids more than 100 role-playing, career adventures in a kid-size city.
If you have an eye for art, Frisco delivers that too – from downtown murals to more than 200 outdoor pieces making up the Texas Sculpture Garden at Hall Park. Citywide, Frisco features more than 80 artworks displayed throughout our community.
Playtime in Frisco is good for your soul and spirit! We take play to a new level so ‘get your play on!’
Sincerely,

As professional sports organizations continue to expand and innovate in Frisco, many people trace the city’s “Sports City USA” roots back to the influence of the Hunt Family, including Dan Hunt, longtime President of FC Dallas.
The Hunt Family brought FC Dallas to Frisco and made Toyota Stadium a reality. Later, they were the driving force in adding the National Soccer Hall of Fame, the first time a Hall of Fame for a major sport has been built into a stadium.
“Frisco is a community that has the can-do spirit,” says Hunt. “They took a giant leap of faith with our family to build this soccer facility, the third one ever in Major League Soccer. Today, our state-of-the-art soccer complex rivals some of the nicest stadiums and soccer complexes in the world.”
Hunt was drawn to the sports industry from an early age. Call it inevitable; he’s the son of the late sports icon Lamar Hunt, whose legacy includes founding the American Football League, the Kansas City Chiefs, and Major League Soccer.
Hunt has put his own significant stamp on the sports industry, though, having established FC Dallas as the leader in youth soccer development in North America.
“What’s truly unique about what we’ve built here is that the professionals train right alongside our third division team, North Texas SC,” explains Hunt. “Our FCD Academy and other youth teams get to be inside the stadium and see what it’s like to be a first team player.”
At the end of the day, Hunt says he’s Frisco’s biggest soccer fan. “Some of our FC Dallas fans have been with us since our first season in 1996. Enjoying the game with them is a great experience.”

Charlotte Jones, Dallas Cowboys Executive Vice President and Chief Brand Officer, oversees all business operations, strategies, and applications surrounding the team’s brand as it’s presented to fans worldwide.
Known for her exquisite taste and proven ability to build brand affinity, Jones is largely responsible for the first-class look and feel of Dallas Cowboys World Headquarters and practice facility in Frisco, also known as The Star.
“The Star includes shopping, dining, and nightlife, as well as athletic, fitness, hotel, and residential options,” says Jones. “It’s something that our entire family is proud of as it continues to evolve as a destination for fans and visitors,” says Jones.
The iconic team has famously high standards, so it’s no surprise
that things just keep getting better. Whether it’s the Cowboys Christmas Extravaganza, Dallas Cowboys Training Camp, new restaurants, or events throughout the year, fans and visitors have the opportunity to connect with the Dallas Cowboys in ways they have never imagined.
Jones is sure that Frisco is the right location for the Dallas Cowboys. “High school football is the heartbeat of the community and to be at the epicenter of it all, providing unique experiences to those who visit, is a privilege to steward,” she says. “The City of Frisco has made our team proud to call it home.”

Desmond Blair is living proof that creativity knows no boundaries. Despite a limb di erence and people’s doubts, Desmond has followed his lifelong dream of being an artist. His artwork is featured at the sophisticated J.Theodore restaurant in Frisco, and his portraits are highly sought after throughout the country.
Born without hands, most of Blair’s childhood was spent in the hospital, where he enjoyed sketching his favorite superheroes and dreaming of becoming an artist. People were not always shy in expressing their doubts.
Having developed grit and determination early on, the naysayers served as motivation to achieve his dream. Today, Blair is known for his highly detailed portraits. Upon receiving an invitation to create a large-scale mural at J.Theodore restaurant, he hesitated.
“I lost my mom to ALS not long ago,” Blair says. “She always nudged me to do murals, but I avoided them because I was far more comfortable painting on canvas. When the opportunity to do the J.Theodore mural came along, a voice inside of me said, ‘Now’s the time, do it.’”
The result is a rave-worthy, remarkable mural of a man, inspired by the father of J. Theodore’s owner Derek Simms.
“I’ve taken some of the things that I learned from that project and incorporated it into my other artwork,” Blair says. “I’m always trying to take my artwork to the next level.”
By day, Blair is an IT Project Manager at Scottish Rite Hospital, where he aspires to be a source of encouragement to the kids.
“In the evening, I switch gears and paint using the other part of my brain. The painting and the technology balance each other out.”

Owners, La Finca Coffee and Bakery lafincacoffeebakery.com
Although Lee and Patricia Gonzales have lived in Frisco for many years, it was a nine and a half year departure that revealed their entrepreneurial future in Texas.
They left the area to serve as full-time missionaries in Mexico. While there, they were inspired to open a co ee shop as a means of connecting with the community. Over time, they learned to roast their own co ee, expanded the menu, and became a full-service scratch kitchen.
When it was time to return to Frisco, they were eager to emulate the concept in the Rail District. “We didn’t want to change the recipes just because we changed countries,” says Lee. “We brought the exact recipes we were using there from local chefs and cooks we worked with in Mexico.”
With that vision in mind, they opened La Finca Co ee and Bakery, a Mexicaninspired scratch kitchen and bakery in the heart of downtown Frisco.
On the menu you’ll find freshly roasted co ee, sourced from farmers they have personal relationships with in Mexico. Bakery, breakfast, and lunch options feature authentic Mexican recipes and freshly made breads. Lee shares, “People are amazed that we have the quality of a great co ee shop as well as food that meets the standard of any restaurant.”
Authenticity is important to Lee and Patricia, not only for the menu, but on the service side as well. “People want to be known,” says Lee. “We want to be a place where someone knows your name, knows your story. La Finca should feel like home, not only aesthetically, but relationally.”

EIGHT | 11 PLACE
Oprah called them one of her favorite things and helped make them famous—Cookie Society’s oversized gourmet cookies indulgently made with real butter in rotating, elevated flavors.
Marissa and Je Allen are the tastemakers behind the Frisco-based brand, with Marissa serving as the chief recipe developer and Je , her business partner (and taste tester).
Their entrepreneurial journey began when Je Allen, an 8-year NFL veteran, challenged his wife Marissa to bake the perfect cookie. Never one to back down from a dare, she went to work. That first perfect cookie inspired over 70 other flavors, such as Banana Pudding and Salted Caramel.
“When we started, it was just my wife doing something she loves,” says Je . “We didn’t imagine it blowing up to where we have people traveling from all over just to come to our cookie shop. We knew we had a good product, but to get the recognition we’ve received is humbling. We’re so appreciative and thankful for it.”
While the Frisco shop stays busy with foot tra ic and delivery orders, the Allens receive requests from all over the country. Je ’s NFL connections have resulted in many orders, most recently from Demarcus Ware. “I looked up to him as a player,” Je says, “so it’s really great.”
Marissa is always playing with new recipes, finding delicious inspiration everywhere she goes. The couple lives in Frisco, where they’re raising kids and enjoying life. “It’s important for us to keep a balance and put our children first,” she says.
“Frisco is a great community and we’re so thankful to be here.”

Chairman & Founder, HALL Group hallpark.com
Craig Hall, chairman and founder of Dallas-based HALL Group, is known for his impactful career in business, as well his work as an author, civic leader and philanthropist. A lifelong art collector, he also cultivated one of Frisco’s greatest points of pride, the Hall Arts Collection, and Texas Sculpture Garden.
Located within Frisco’s HALL Park o ice development, the indoor/outdoor collection includes more than 200 works of art. Open to the public, you’ll often find visitors taking photos of special moments there, be it for prom or a first-time visit to Frisco.
“When I first started displaying art at HALL park, it wasn’t with the idea that it would help our business in any way,” Hall says. “I simply believe that art enhances people’s lives. As it turns out, it also ends up being good for business.”
Which art displays are Hall’s favorites? He jokes, “That’s a tough question as it would be like picking your favorite children. There are a few stand-out pieces which shouldn’t be missed when visiting.
‘The Headlines Screamed, Baithouse Disappears’ by Texas artist Joe Barrington is a large-scale steel sculpture of a fish with a house in its jaws in one of our lakes. ‘Blanco #17’ by Houston-based Mac Whitney is striking, as are several pieces by renowned Texas artists James Surls and George Tobolowsky.”
Visitors can look forward to more art in the coming years. Hall says,”I’d like to acquire works from emerging artists with di ering perspectives and increase the diversity within our collection. It’s important to make sure all of our visitors feel represented and find connection with our artworks.”
