PRESIDENT'S ADDRESS

TCS Maitree Toastmasters Club is one such club which has been helping its members in enhancing their communication, interpersonal, leadership skills & reach fullpotential.Ithasbeentrulyapleasuretoservetheclub as the 26th President of the Oldest Club in Mumbai and District98.

Our term started with a vision to enhance the quality of the meetings along with taking the legacy of our prestigiousclubonestepahead.

The term was filled with many events which made the term more engaging & amazing. Our first aim was to boost membership before the renewal cycle, hence VPM Ashwini, along with Treasurer Mercy, organised a membership campaign which saw more than 35 guests andconverted11+gueststotheclubmembers.

Our second aim was to enhance the learning experience of members, hence we organised debate competition, invited many keynote speakers & conducted quality meetings. We also organised 2 contests in this term & made sure maximum participation and guidance was given to members by their mentors. As a result, the club saw many new members at top 3 positions. We also ensured to give judging opportunities to all members, which resulted in more than 10 members serving as ContestJudge/Chiefjudgesoutsidetheclub.

We introduced the culture of releasing the pre-meeting promo/teaser video of the meetings & VPPR Simran did a phenomenal job, as she made sure to publish the posters & videos on various internal and external platforms to promotetheclub.

Her creativity & proactiveness truly helped in promoting theclubwithperfection.

PRESIDENT'S ADDRESS

The term was packed with amazing events, however excom faced some challenges as well. As Roger Crawford said- “Being challenged in life is inevitable, but being defeated is optional.” Ex-com team collectively managed allthehurdles&continuedorganisingqualitymeetings.

We achieved 5 DCP points within 3 months of our term & possibly will achieve 9 DCP points in total by the end of the term. This truly reflects the zeal & enthusiasm of excom&clubmembers.

Throughout the term, Secretary Somani did great job in managingtheadministrationoftheclub.

Treasurer Mercy has been a team person & voluntarily tookupmanyresponsibilitiesthroughouttheterm.

Sergeant-at-arms Ashish, did a great job, as he has been one of the most proactive members of the club, always stepped in whenever someone backed out at last moment&playedacrucialroleinthemeetings. Our VPE Pravina demonstrated great enthusiasm & did a greatjobinconductingthemeetings.

The team of Reena, Shubham, Shivani, Pravina and Samruddhi led by VPPR Simran, worked dedicatedly day and night to bring the coverage of the whole term throughthisNewslettertous!Hatsofftotheireffortsand sheerdedication.

This term has been great in terms of quality learning, grooming members, applying feedback, celebrating diversity and inclusion, leading from the front, consensus decision making and celebrations. I feel proud and satisfied that the gavel will be passed on to the powerpacked new executive committee and I am sure they will taketheclubtothenewheights.

– (Roger Crawford)

2k22)

Unlike the other members, my time in Ex-com was brief. It was a pleasure to collaborate with everyone. All of the ex-com and club members wereenthusiastic.AstheVPE,Ihadagreattime gettingtoknoweveryonebetter.Intheprocess,I learned to multitask and made new friends. I've seen the ex-com team work hard to ensure that every meeting is a success. I would not have noticed otherwise. I've also been a part of the drivetoplanoutmeetingsandhopeforthebest Convincing members to take on roles, encouraging them to bring their best selves forward, and even noticing a new responsible side of myself. I hope our members are content and continue to attend meetings in the future. As I discovered a new and improved version of myself, othersmaydosoaswell.

Iwasnotconfidentenoughtocontestelectionsfor VPM role solely because I am an introvert. But it was only after being VPM I discovered another hiddentalentofme(beingextrovertmaybe!)

The most amazing part about this journey is that I got an opportunity to interact with so many TCSers ranging from freshers to experienced and I learnt how to network. The most important lesson was that I learnt how to handle rejections. Behind every success as a VPM was our ex-com team, Sankalp who is always there to support, Mercy who comes up with innovative ideas. Simran and Ashish were like backbone of excom who had solution in everydifficultsituation. And of course, all members of the club who gave me this chance. It was a wonderful experience.

Ashwini Vaidya VP Membership (July-Dec 2k22)

I joined toastmasters to break free from the monotony of work and being a part of this amazingplatformthathelpedmegrow.

Being the VPPR at TCS Maitree toastmaster's club has been a splendid journey of learning fromeachandeverymembers. These experience have taught me and made me acreativeperson.

Being VPPR, I learnt a lot, creating poster's and videos for regular meeting and for the same asking all the members to share their photographs I learnt how to manage and completetaskontime.

It was an overwhelming experience for me to workwithsupportiveteammembers.

I made new friends and met new people throughoutmyamazingToastmaster'sjourney.

My journey with Toastmasters began with a need tohelpmeelevatemysoftskills.

BeingpartofToastmastersExcomteamwasalike a box of mixed chocolates! The experiences were sometimesnutty, crunchy, crispy, butmostlyfullof sweetmemories.

As a Treasurer, I got the opportunity to work in tandem with my fellow Excom team members & fosternewrelationshipswithfirst-timersaswellas maintain rapport with our existing members. The experience I gained, apart from the interaction, participation, learning , sharing was worth much more than the self paced learning. It helped me debate, ideate, brainstorm & enhance our routine meetings into making it interactive & resourceful forourmembers.

I loved the vibe & positive energy and learnt invaluable lessons from each of my Excom team members!

Mercy D'Souza Treasurer (July-Dec 2k22)

Being the secretary of the club comes with a lot of responsibility. Not just you are responsible to capture the essence of the meeting, you are also practicing one of the key skills you are expected to hone while being in Toastmasters, i.e. Listening.Carefullylisteningtospeechesandand evaluations, youautomaticallyimproveyourown speech writing and evaluation . Apart from this , being an excom member has helped me immensely as a leader. Just participating in meetings and help organize and plan meetings ahead helps you grow as a team and individual. I'm extremely glad I took up this role as a secretary.

I went from being someone who was extremely lazy to attend the meetings, to someone who attendedeverysinglemeeting. And I'll always be thankful to the changes it has broughtinme.

Beingatoastmasterhasmanyperks.Yougetto workalongsideothermembershavingadiverse rangeoftalentsandskills.Oneofthoseskillsis being visionary which I learned from my fellow clubmembers.Yougettolearnhowtothinkout of the box and being an EXCOM member you gettoimplementitonamajorscale.

It’s not toastmasters but the diverse learning you get from the members who also make joiningtoastmastersclubamust.

To make most of this membership club members actively seek roles for upcoming meeting and be connected with their assigned mentor and most important “Enjoy being a Toastmaster ”

Life...

Life is full of blessings.

Enjoy this to the fullest.

Human life doesn’t come easily. Have to cross crores of lives.

Respecting your parents are blessings. Making them proud is an amazing feeling.

Life is easy or difficult as you see.

Keep moving forward should be the goal.

People come People go.

Memorable moments always remain. We learn from people.

Whether friends or unknown.

Lucky are those who get true friends. Doesn’t matter If we lose some. Keep promises of togetherness. Life becomes difficult when we lose close friends.

Life is to explore new things. To bring happiness to self.

Life is to build new paths.

And, to bring change in society.

Human life is rare. Leave legacy to this mortal world. Your value is not in your presence.

But in your absence.

10

Have a good human nature. Add value to humanity. Develop Intelligence. Bring Innovation.

Uplift people’s life. Help them always. Be there for needy ones. You might be the only one.

Spread happiness. Spread Smile. Develop Ideology. Be Inspiration.

You will be remembered. By the generations.

Life is full of blessings. Always make it worthwhile

Just do it for the Family

Just do it....Not for them For YOU

Just leave it.... Not for them For YOU

Just love it.....Not for them For YOU

Just believe.... Not for them For YOU

But care... Not for you For THEM...

Can you hear me?

A mother’s love endures through all – Washington Irving.

She was crying out loudly. Her skin bruised, all wounded, yet she did trust her children to listen to her cries. In despair, she could hear the harsh words reverberate, “Mother, give me everything you have. It is never enough.” “Child, your greed will kill you and your children too.” She tried her best to make him understand.“But, before that you will be killed”, he retorted back without any mercy. In his anger, he took out hisenormous,powerful,speedyfour-wheeleroutonthecountryroad.

She stood still as she saw him sped past. Her beautiful face was covered with the soot, smoke and fumes emitted out of his favorite roaring machine. Her heart ached whenshethoughtaboutdaysgonebyofasweetyoungladwhoplayedinnocentlyin her lap. His hands and face were covered in the rain-drenched mud. His clothes had the sweet smell of her fragrance. As he grew up into a handsome young man, she was hopeful he would be kind and caring just like her. But he grew up to be otherwise. She made him realize his mistakes during his few months of lockdown. Meanwhile, herskinwashealingfromthewoundshehadinflictedonher.

She longed to see her loving, caring child back. He came back with a vengeance. She had never seen any other being as merciless as him. Even animals were better, they killedforfood.Buthedestroyedandkilledforhispleasure.Hestompedintothefield, hit her hard and stamped on her bosom, the bosom that once lovingly nurtured him. "Can you hear me?” she called out in pain to the universe as he ordered the excavation machinery to continue with their job. Her cries fell on his deaf ears. The old banyan tree with the branches bowing towards her said, “I bow to thee, my mother Earth. Your children, the humans will never understand you till their cold bodiesdissolveinyourwarmthforeternity”

The clouds grew dark as if expressing their anger in support of her, (The ever-loving Mother Earth) and thundered as if chanting the Bhoomi Sukta excerpts (Atharva Veda12.1)

Secret Ingredients

“Hey I have a lot of work to complete, and time is very less. That's my story at every weekend!!!

This thought provokes me to put more effort into any task. Putting more effort indeed improves your craft which in turn enhances quality of your work. But putting more effort is usually associated with the increase in number of hours for a task. While researching about “How to increase energy” so that I could invest more energy into your my task, I stumbled upon a study published by HBR org and to my surprise it was clearly hinted that in order to be more productive, we have to manage our energy not our time. It makes sense as time is a limited resource in our lives but our energy is a different story.

According to the research there are 3-4 main source of energy:

1. Body

2. Mind

3. Soul/Spirit

Body includes working on your physic, eating healthy diet at regular intervals. Mind is about maintaining a positive mindset no matter what. It can be done by asking a simple question to yourself "Regardless of outcome of current situation what is the opportunity here?". While Soul is aligned with human spirit. Any individual can question himself/herself “What is the thing you want to be remembered for after you die?” for example “You don’t want to be remembered as the crazy partner who worked these long hours and made people around miserable.”

If you have made it till here I recommend you to give a read to this amazing HBR blog on “Manage your time not your energy”.

You are Rare

Those who sees beauty in everything, possess beautiful mind, Those, for whom only beauty matters, humanly they are blind,

So what if you have scars, So what if you don't shine like stars, You are one of your kind, Beauty lies in one's soul & mind,

So what if your complexion isn't fair, So what if this world discriminates, Brighten up the world with your power, Let the world know, how rare you are,

Don't let your fire suffocate within you, Let the world feel the heat of fire which lies within you, Let the world witness, who really you are, Rare.. You are rare..

It is Okay

You are Rare

It is Okay...

It is okay to not be okay,

It is okay to have flaws within you

It is okay to make mistakes someday

It is okay to cry your heart out

It is okay to accept yourself as you are

It is okay to think about yourself first

It is okay to not be okay

Because tomorrow will be a better Tomorrow...

First Day At Office...

New Normal, Masks compulsory, no social events.....this all were the things occurred till last mid year. Even all tend to be with the same situationdaybydayandmadeitaroutine, soasI.

Last Paper of Engineering, that too in virtual mode. We all knew how we passed to be frank.(Corona Batch as you all say......we don't mind iteither).

Thencomesthechangeofphaseforeachgraduatestudenttograba placement and get ready for that. I was in a similar condition and applied for various placement drives. Got into TCS, as ASE-Trainee. Working from Home became daily routine spending time with family until there was a call by manager for joining office by 1st September2022.

All the preparations went ON and there came the day, left home under mild rain early morning as it was around 150 kms from my place Nashik. I totally went berserk as I saw in a huge Hiranandani Dome in the form of TCS Olympus. Went inside with the excitement, got ID card without any hesitation(thankfully), started working in ODC.

After some time, the technical glitches started happening which I was afraid of facing. Went to IS team for resolution, spent 1 hour therebutissuewasnotsolved.

Ultimately, took a leave that day as work was not going to be done due to the technicalities. So explored the canteen, cafeteria, club houseandmanymore.

Connected with few friends, especially from different states in the ODCandenjoyedthefirstdayevenifitwasanon-workingday. TMTC organised educational session on International Speech Contest which was conductedby DTMRupinder. He talked about WHY should be clear for selecting a perfect topic for speech. He suggested to add personal experience & examples in the speech so that maximum number of people could relate with it. His mainsuggestionwasthat-speechshouldbe delivered to change someone's life, not to win the contest. He suggested to re-write speech many times to get a perfect speech and practice that at least 10 times to get confidenceinspeechdelivery.DTMRupinder interactedwithclubmembersbyresponding to their questions, in which he emphasized the use of humor, vocal variety, pauses, and hand gestures for making speech more appealing&engaging.

UNIQUE MEETINGS DEBATE CONTEST

Debate is the most versatile form of communicationthatenhancesmutualrespectand the power of perspective. It makes us good speakers and even better listeners. TMTC organised a debate contest in which two teams Fearless Ninjas and Rebuttal Rebels were formed to debate on three topics "Social media harms work-life balance", "WFO is better than WFH" and "AI is a threat for Humans". There were 5 judges, who judged the whole contest. Both the teams witnessed great enthusiasm and the Fearless Ninjas, ultimatelywonthecontest.

Winner: Fearless Ninjas-TMBharti,TMAshish,TM Mayank, TM Snehal, TM Pallavi, TM Sagnik, TM Anjali

Runner up: Rebuttal Rebels- TM Shubham, TM Pushpendra, TM Utsav, TM Nikhil, TM Reena, TM SimranL.TMShaun,TMSanaya.

REREVSE MEITENG

Reverse Meeting is one of its kind where everything takes place in reverse gear. It feels likejoiningthedotsinreverse.

MOM releases first, then agenda, followed by posterreleaseatlast, postmeeting.

The role players' reports & evaluations are delivered first prior to the speeches which certainly test one's creativity & adds humor in themeeting.

And for the very first time, you may find Table Topics Master more nervous than TT speakers, as speakers get the liberty to speak on any topic they wish for & TTM need to guess the topic name for the speeches delivered in TT round.

Overall, Reverse meeting brings lots of fun, thrill, humor & attracts out of the box thinking whichisthoroughlyenjoyedbythemembers.

I don't know much about you but whatever I've got to know about you since I joined this club is that you are a person with "GREAT HEART" ❤ . ....... Wait... Wait... Wait..... One more thing.... Always keep smiling Laughing , because laughter suits more thansmileonyourface. . Yourpositivityisinfectious!!

You are senior to us but your guideline is alwaysworth.

No matter how much I praise you, it will be less. You are the most energetic, always active and most talented person. You don't know what you have given to me, but for now, the only thing I will say, just because of you I started believing on myself, otherwise I lost myself many years back. You are really a true "GEM". I virtually connected with you many times and learned a lot, but my wish is to meet you physically, at least once in my life. Youaremyinspiration.

What keeps you motivated to be active in Toastmasters Club ?

There would be many reasons. It is a journey where goal and purpose keeps changing as time & journey progress. Initially when I started, I loved the positive and supportive environment in the club & in the Toastmasters community, that kept me motivated, that make me feel good.Astimeprogressed,Igottoknowabout, whatarethethingswhich we can achieve within toastmasters. So, I developed some goals for myself for being part of the club and I wanted to achieve those goals. So, those goals became my reasons in second stage of my life in the toastmasters and when those goals got crossed i felt that whatever we learn from society or each other, It is time to give back to others. It is a greatplatformwherewecanhelpotherwhoareinneed, withourbestof ability. So, these are the reasons which keeps me motived and also motivatemetocontinuefurther.

How a member can get best out of his or her toastmasters journey?

Everyone has something to receive from toastmasters. It all depends on what they are looking for from this organization. If they are looking for communication skills development, they can achieve. If they are looking to develop some leadership & event management skills, like- organizing an event, leading a team, helping others in form of mentoring, they can achieve these aspirations. If they want to achieve certificates or trophies, they can achieve. If they want to know lots of good people in the surroundings then, they will get the chance to meet many people who are from different backgrounds, if they want to know about them, they can listen to their speeches because in toastmasters people shares their personal life stories, so they can know about other persons from their speechesso, therearelotsofreasonsapersoncanlearnandbenefitfrom this platform. They can develop themselves on social media platform too using learning those skills. So, there are many opportunities, it completelydependsuponthepersonwhathe/sheisaspiringfor.But,itis surethat, usingthisplatformpeoplecanelevatethemselvestonextlevel.

How toastmasters help you in your professional life ?

I personally feel that I was having not at all confidence in speaking with the group of people. Group of people is a big thing. I was not at all confident to speak even to one to one because I used to feel that whatever I am going to speak is not adding value or any meaning to opposite person. So, this was my lower self-confidence initially. So, from this I got overcome and I felt good confidence in myself first. It was very important for me to feel good in myself first. As time progressed, I started feeling confidence in communicating with peers, friends or anyone and even I started feeling confident in different activities. RegardingprofessionalpartwhichIfeel, whenIrealizethatmypeers,my workplace friends are stared accepting my thoughts and I lost fear with communicating with clients, manager too. I started feeling confident. I lost those fears while communicating with them. Whatever thoughts came in my mind I started presenting in front of them and in this way, toastmastershelpedme.

Why one should definitely experience an excom role atleast once in his/her toastmasters journey?

Members of the Toastmasters clubs learns a lot by receiving feedbacks, listening to speeches & taking up roles. They receive a lot of knowledge. So, they are at the receiving end. However once a member becomes part of excom then that member learns and experiences what it takes behind to plan a club meeting. So, members learn a bigger picture to arrange meetinginthecluboncetheybecomepartofexcomandthisisthetruth that if we see bigger picture, we understand the things better. So, as we raise ourselves as higher position or higher level, we are able to see biggerpictureofanyactivityandithelpsusinmakinggooddecisionsfor fellow toastmasters who are dependent on us and ourselves too. So, it is always good to serve and take leadership opportunities as club officer roleorhigherofficerroletoseethesamethingswithbiggerideas.

Please, Give some words of wisdom to our other members also .

Consistency is most important. Trust is very important with fellow friends, with fellow toastmasters. Discipline is important and always having positive attitude even though you are facing a lot of challenges andalwayshelpeveryone.

DTM Raj has contributed a lot to the club. He has served the club by being part of Ex-com and by mentoring many toastmasters. He has achieved Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM) Award which is the highest level of Educational Achievement in Toastmasters.
