Listeners enjoy the best hip-hop, go-go, soul, and funk from the DC/Maryland/Virginia region and an authentic interactive experience with 99 & Kato. The pioneers of the online go-go radio format bring their respective collections of local music amassed over years of community journalism and artist advocacy, primarily via Take Me Out to the Go-Go Media.

In TMOTTGoGo tradition, they provide a medium based on the needs of a community heavily embedded in its local music and arts culture. The show is a fun, informative exchange with local artists, music lovers, local entertainment insiders, and folks all over the country who get their DC funk fix from TMOTTRadio.com.

Roll Call

Ninety-Nine (“99”)

is an established media personality and event host with 18 years of experience connecting to artists, musicians, and their patrons. She has worked in programming, promotions or as on-air talent for Washington, DC and Baltimore area radio and television stations WPGC FM 95.5, Heaven 1580AM, WIAV-TV Channel 58, and WXYV-FM (Baltimore’s former V103). As a freelance writer, she shares her talents through entertainment journalism and by writing public relations pieces for numerous organizations and artists. She now blogs on art and entertainment at DCBrand99.com and is a Ph.D. Candidate in Community and Applied Social Psychology.

Kevin “Kato” Hammond

is an American musician and journalist. He is the owner and creator of TMOTTGoGo Magazine (Take Me Out To The Go-Go) and TMOTTRadio, and web and graphics designer at TMOTTWebDesign.com. Take Me Out to the Go-Go Magazine gains attention from outside media outlets for its designation as ‘the official gateway to a Washington, DC music culture.’ Such magazines as Vibe have made Kevin Hammond and Take Me Out to the GoGo Magazine a significant source of information about the go-go music culture. His history as a musician includes performing and recording with the go-go bands Pure Elegance, Little Benny and the Masters, and Proper Utensils. He has also served as Chairperson of Historic in the Go-Go Coalition.

TVOne’s “Unsung”: The Story of Chuck Brown

The acclaimed TVOne program Unsung ran an episode in which they profiled Chuck Brown and the origins of Go-Go music. Along with many prominent figures, to include Jill Scott, Marion Barry, John Buchanan, Donald Tillery, Sugar Bear, Tony Fisher, Andre Johnson, JuJu, Anwan Glover, Chucky Thompson, Raheem DeVaughn, Konan, Charles Stephenson, Bo Sampson, and many others, Kato Hammond took part in the presentation of this episode. Kato appeared as a go-go historian and expert on DC music.

WETA: Washington in the 80s

WETA TV26 proudly presents Washington in the ’80s, the latest in a series of documentaries exploring changes in Greater Washington decade by decade. You may have seen WETA’s Washington in the ’60s and Washington in the ’70s and as you may guess, Washington in the ’80s chronicles the decade’s events through the recollections of those who saw and shaped them.

For decades, dance clubs have been incubators for Washington D.C.’s thriving musical cultures, from Go-Go to Punk to Hip-Hop. But after a local teen was tragically murdered at a local club, D.C. leaders are considering legislation to curb teen access to venues that serve alcohol. We look at the recent controversy over “all-ages” clubs from a cultural perspective.

A.R.T. of Go-Go

“A.R.T. of Go-Go” was started in August 2012 when Ninety-Nine invited gogo musician, music producer, and radio host Dwayne Lee, hip hop artist, educator, and activist Head-Roc, hip hop artist Christylez Bacon, and lyrical poet Reesa Renee to speak to an audience at the Tap & Parlour in Washington, DC about how go-go music has influenced their art. The second “A.R.T. of Go-Go” was held at Adinkra Cultural Arts Studio and featured DC funk rock band GODISHEUS.
