New Offerings ES&S
Film
-Develops broad skill set from students, including the ability to perform research and investigations, participation in philosophical discussion and problem-solving.
-Explore the various contexts of film and make links to, and between films, filmmakers and filmmaking techniques (inquiry) -Acquire and apply skills as discerning interpreters of film and as creators of film, working both individually and collaboratively (action) -Develop evaluative and critical perspectives on their own film work and the work of others (reflection).
-Promotes holistic thinking about environmental issues. -Students develop solutions to environmental issues at the personal, community and global levels.
The DP Math Options Mathematics Analysis and Mathematics Applications Approaches and Interpretation AA is for students who enjoy developing their mathematics skills. Those who enjoy the thrill of mathematical problem solving and generalization.
The AI course makes extensive use of technology to allow students to explore and construct mathematical models.
HL: Students have strong algebraic
SL+: Students who have good
skills and pattern recognition to begin with. They will be students who enjoy spending time with problems and get pleasure and satisfaction from solving challenging problems.
Practical problems using technology. algebraic skills and enjoy working with functions will benefit getting the additional Advanced Functions credit.

Parts of the Course Selection • HL SUBJECTS base on competencies and skills required for University ❖ part of the “profile” - follow your passion ❖ HLs specified for UK schools ❖ HL and SL usually have the same course codes! ❖ Studio hours: if your student is thinking about a portfolio-based program, arts at DP level are a huge advantage. ❖ Summer courses: when a familiarity but not a proficiency is required. ❖ First year credit for HL subjects with a score of 5 or above ❖
Common Course Prerequisites Humanities English History Visual Arts
Engineering English 2 sciences (Chemistry and Physics) 2 maths ( HL Math)
Biological Sciences English 2 sciences (Biology, Chemistry) – one university recommends Physics – there is a bridge program
Business and Computer Science English 2 maths (generally SL Math = MCV4U and MHF4U) Maybe one science
Arts English -specific to the art that will be studied -portfolio required, specific work done and grade 12 courses completed

The University Application Process – Timing Ontario • All major volunteer work CAS projects done before end of Grade 11. • Keep up extra-curriculars and leadership! • References – only if needed – should give teachers two weeks’ notice • Applications are done in the fall of Grade 12. Canada • Fall of grade 12 International • All completed by September (Grade 12) including prep tests • Spring and summer grade 11 – work on supplementary writing
