EVANSVILLE CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL
FOOTBALL HISTORY Central is the oldest continuous high school west of the Alleghenies. Central was called Evansville High School from 1854 until 1918, when a second Evansville public high school was opened. Evansville High School's football record from 1896, when they began, until 1907 was 2211-1.
In 1919, Central played their home games at Old Baseball Park, located at Louisiana and Baker Avenues. On October 18, 1929, Central played Bicknell in the first ever night game in Evansville, defeating them 7 to 6. Central was part of the Indiana High School Football Conference in the twenties and early
thirties, which featured several of the top teams in all of the areas of the state. Central High School has played North for the Buehler's Buy-Low North Bowl Trophy during Week 9 of the regular season every year since 1992. All-time Evansville Central High School Football Scores

TEAM HISTORY In the early 1950s the Evansville and Vanderburgh County population was increasing and pushing in a northern direction. It was decided that a new high school was needed to relieve the burden on the existing public high schools Central High School and Bosse High School. The location of the school on property near the Mechanic Arts Trades and Industry High School on the north side was chosen. Mechanic Arts curriculum was incorporated into the new high school which would allow students from the other high schools to come as shared time students. In the fall of 1956 the new North High School opened its doors. The school opened serving students from the seventh through 12th grades. The first graduating class consisted of only 18 girls and 149 boys because students in the district were allowed to

choose to remain at their present high school or to transfer to the new school. During that first year the school fielded their first athletic teams and were dubbed the “North Huskies.” A reserve football schedule and a varsity basketball schedule were played. Football games during the early years were played at Bosse Field and other high school fields and in the 1970s, the new Central High School’s field was designated as the Huskies’ home field once it was built. In 2012, after 56 years, the huskies finally played their first game in their own stadium, built on the new North it was built in 1956: campus at highway 41 and Baseline road. Named after • Morris Riley 1957-1975 Charles Bundrant (class of 1960), the stadium can seat • Ed Wessel 1976 – 1980 over 6000 fans and includes 40 chairback seats. It is a • George Alvey 1981-1984 state-of-the-art facility, field surface, scoreboard, and • Charlie Uhde 1685-1988 • Mike Wilson 1989 – 2012 more. North has only had 6 Head Football Coaches since • Bret Szabo 2013 – Current

BOONVILLE HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL HISTORY Boonville's football field, called Bennett Field, opened in 1961. In 1938, Boonville helped to form the Pocket Athletic Conference. They played an 11-man and a 6-man schedule, and finished 5-2 and 1-1, respectively. Boonville High School was admitted as the 12th member of the Southern Indiana Athletic Conference on September 24, 1940. Hemenway Field, the Pioneer's original
stadium, opened around 1921 and is still in use. Though the light poles are now gone, Boonville High's soccer team uses the field for practice. Part of the condition that the Hemenway family made when donating the land is that the school corporation can never rename the field, which is named after Senator James A. Hemenway. And, if the land is ever sold, the proceeds must be used to purchase another plot of ground on which a new Hemenway Field must be built.
