The J. Pritchard Barnes Kindergarten Grant of $200 was awarded to 12 Kindergarten teachers during the August 2nd GSMAR meeting.

J. Pritchard Barnes was Sevier County’s first REALTOR®. Barnes founded the Sevier County Board of REALTORS® in 1967 and worked for the organization’s charter by the National Association of REALTORS®. His love of the Great Smoky Mountains area and his strong belief in the education of youth gave rise to the memorial fund in his name in 1987. GSMAR hopes to reach their goal by October 31st. If the goal is achieved it will allow for a $1000 Scholarship for one student at each of the seven High Schools and allow for a J. Pritchard Barnes Kindergarten Grant of $200 for one Kindergarten teacher at each of the 24 schools that have Kindergarten classes in both Sevier and Cocke counties.
