One in eight women in the U.S. will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime, totaling nearly 246,660 each year. On average, a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer every two minutes and one woman will die from the disease every 13 minutes.

THE GOOD NEWS IS THAT THERE IS HOPE

Hope is in the form of the more than 2.8 million breast cancer survivors that are alive in the U.S. Their survival is thanks in part to the generous donations of many in combination with aggressive research advancements and prevention methods. Because breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in women, the push to find a cure has become a main priority for many researchers and organizations that have made breakthroughs in recent years.

The quest for a cure has become a nationwide initiative, with October being designated as Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This annual campaign has proven to be a significant resource when it comes to increasing awareness of the disease. However, breast cancer awareness spreads far beyond the month of October. Many organizations have made it their mission to help those affected by breast cancer through early detection, education, support, and services throughout the entire year.

Homes & Land and its franchises are proud to be one of the organizations determined to assist in the fight by supporting Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October. The Breast Cancer Research Foundation is the highest rated breast cancer organization in the U.S. with an A+ rating from Charity Watch and 4 out of 4 stars from Charity Navigator. Since its founding in 1993, BCRF has raised more than half a billion dollars for lifesaving research. They seek out the brightest minds in science and medicine and give them the necessary resources to pursue their best ideas. As a result, researchers are able to make discoveries and design new approaches to address all aspects of breast cancer, and in record time. Thanks to generous donations from Homes & Land publishers and local advertisers, the company has been able to partner with organizations such as BCRF in order to join forces and combat breast cancer. Together, the hope is that one day a cure will come to light through the constant support from those who hold the cause near to their heart.
