TNLA Legislative Updates: Texas Legislature Called Back For 30 Day Special Session Governor Abbott has called the Texas Legislature back to Austin for a 30 special session to tackle 13 different policy areas. Among them are property tax relief, border security funding, and election integrity. TNLA will be monitoring these items closely for impact on the funding already appropriated to critical industry programs and property rights issues. H-2B Bill Needs More Texas Support If you have not already, please visit the TNLA Legislative Action Center to send a message to your congressional official in support of the H-2B Returning Worker Exception Act. Critical votes are expected in the weeks ahead and momentum on this bill will be critical. Our industry in Texas needs to do our part to ensure more Texas officials sign onto the bill. You can go to the Legislative Action Center here: https://www.votervoice.net/TNLA/Home TNLA Signs Letter to Congress Defend Ag Tax Tools With the nearing of a compromise on a federal infrastructure bill, Congress is considering a whole host of options to pay for the giant bill. A few of the proposals include eliminating or shrinking tax tools used by growers to keep the operation financially viable and in the family. These tools like SteppedUp Basis, Like-Kind Exchanges, and 199A Business Income Deductions are crucial to Ag operators, especially those small or family operations. TNLA will continue to work with our other Ag associations in support of tools that allow for family growers to continue their businesses for generations in the future. TNLA Signs Letter to Congress on Cuellar H-2B RWE Bill TNLA joined the H-2B Workforce Coalition in sending a letter to Congress requesting them to sign onto Rep. Henry Cuellar’s “Returning Worker Exception Act of 2021”. The bill provides an exception to the cap of 66,000 H-2B workers for any of the visa workers present in the US in the three prior fiscal years. This bill would provide permanent cap relief and get the program closer to the number of visa spots certified by the Department of Labor. You can read the letter by clicking here
