Legislative & Regulatory Updates TNLA Hard At Work For Our Members This Legislative Session The 87th Legislative Session has picked up a furious pace as it closes out the last 3 weeks of session. As previously reported, two of TNLA’s top priorities for the landscape, grower, and retailer sectors have already arrived on Governor Abbott’s desk awaiting his signature into law. A few updates below will detail the latest: HB 19 - Our tort reform bill to limit frivolous lawsuits against commercial vehicle owners and operators continues to advance. The bill was voted out of the Texas Senate committee this week. There remains only a Senate floor vote and some technical procedures left before the bill is finally passed SB 14 - Our bill to preempt cities from creating a patchwork of employment regulations on scheduling, overtime, and benefits has been voted out of House committee. It should be headed to the House floor for a vote as early as next week. H-2A Employers - Unfortunately, one of the bills TNLA has been working against has gain some last minute momentum. It creates new liability and potential penalties for H-2A employers in Texas. TNLA will be working the Senate aggressively to ensure the bill does not pass but, it will be a team effort. Check the TNLA Legislative Action Center on Monday to find out how you can help stop this bad legislation. NALP Virtual Washington DC Fly-In Starting on June 14th the National Association of Landscape Professional will be conducting a two day virtual “fly-in”. TNLA is responsible for coordinating efforts to get as many Texas landscape companies there as possible to participate. Please let Ryan know if you are interested or have questions, email ryan@tnlaonline.org. You can sign up at this website and find out more information click here.

TNLA Tailgate Topics: TRENCHER TROUBLE SHOOTING Objective: Participants will be able to correctly identify possible solutions that may arise when using a trencher and their solutions APPLICATION: This activity should be done after participants are comfortable with the workings of a trencher, either through practice or by study. Have participants identify when and how they would be faced with the following situations. Compare their solutions to the given solutions to see if they differ. If they do, work through the correct solution with the participants. A game of memory can be created using index cards for further instruction.

The ability to identify possible problems with a machine and make the proper changes keeps maintenance costs down and prolongs the life of the machine. The following lists possible situations with a trencher and trouble shooting steps for each situation. Not all situations will have a solution.
