Legislative & Regulatory Updates TNLA Members & Staff Meet with Congressman Henry Cuellar Last week, TNLA members and staff were able to meet with Congressman Henry Cuellar and thank him for his leadership in Congress on H-2B cap relief. Congressman Cuellar has been the primary author of permanent cap relief in this Congress and longtime ally of the business community on our workforce needs. Our team shared the efforts of our TNLA members to rally other Texas Congressional support to the Congressman's cap relief legislation through D.C. visits, virtual meetings, and our TNLA Legislative Action Center.
Update on Vaccine Mandate Legal challenges to OSHA's Emergency Temporary Standard (ETS) vaccine mandate have caused the courts to issue a stay on the enforcement of the ETS. After a court lottery, the US Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit has won the review of the lawsuits filed. According to news sources, the 6th Circuit is more conservative than some of the other circuit courts, having an 11 Republican - 5 Democrat split. While this potentially may spell a loss for the Biden administration, it is likely only temporary as the losing side will almost certainly appeal to the US Supreme Court.

TNLA Tailgate Topics: TC OIL, GEAR OIL & GREASE Objective: Participants will be able to identify the differences between TC oil, gear oil, and grease. They will also be able to identify the differences between these oils and motor oil. APPLICATION: Using the products that are in use at your business show participants examples of the following types of lubricants. Have them observe what types of machines each of the oils are used on. Compare and contrast the oils with motor oil and explain how to tell them apart from each other. Two-Stroke-Cycle Gasoline Engine Oil Some types of light equipment (chain saws, trimmers, mowers, etc.) have a two-stroke- cycle (TC) gasoline engine. TC engines require either premixing or direct oil injection of their lubricating oil. Premixing is when the lubricating oil is mixed into the fuel. Three factors should be looked at when choosing TC engine oil: 1. VISCOSITY: typical range is between SAE 20 – SAE 40. 2. MISCIBILITY: the oil’s ability to mix and blend with fuel. 3. FUEL–TO-OIL RATIO: a 50-1 ratio is typical and the ratio should be based on the type of engine and its load. ONLY use two-cycle oils in two-cycle engines. * ONLY use four-cycle oils in four-cycle engines. *
Gear Oil Gear oil is used to lubricate under extreme pressures and usually have high load-bearing capacities. Gear oil is a blend of base stocks and additives and are available in both mineral and synthetic forms. The viscosity grades for gear oil have different numbers than motor oil, but are established and labeled in a similar fashion as motor oil. Grades are: 70W, 75W, 80W, 90, 140, & 250.
Grease A combination of lubricating oil and a thickening agent, grease is used for lubrication when oil is unusable. Due to the thickening agent it is able to adhere better to surfaces than oil.
