ORGULHO E SUPERAÇÃO Amigo Toastmaster, Estamos numa fase verdadeiramente efervescente da organização Toastmasters em Portugal. Os concursos de discursos arrancaram definitivamente. Dezenas de oradores espalhados por todo o território acalentam a expectativa de se tornarem nos nossos novos campeões, nas competições que terão lugar na conferência nacional, dia 3 de Maio, no grande auditório do Taguspark, em Oeiras. Vai ser mais uma grande festa dos Toastmasters portugueses. Não vais querer faltar! Continuamos empenhados em levar os Toastmasters a todo o lado. Novos clubes prospect emergiram e, entre oficiais e prospects, já garantimos 33 clubes. É obra! E não vamos parar. A equipa - que somos todos nós - já demonstrou elevadíssimos níveis de ambição, compromisso e competência e, garantidamente, vamos acrescentar mais alguns clubes aos já existentes. Se queres abrir um clube Toastmasters e ter uma experiência extraordinária de empreendedorismo e liderança, entra em contacto com o Division Club Building Coordinator José Manuel Barros. A qualidade e o ambiente que se vive nos nossos clubes é também um enorme motivo de orgulho. Felizmente temos métricas que nos permitem avaliar essa dimensão. A três meses do fim do ano, 16 dos nossos 23 clubes oficiais já são Distinguidos. Todos estão a ter resultados incríveis, mas é justo destacar o Barreiro Toastmasters que, apesar de apenas ter realizado o charter este ano, já é President’s Distinguished, e o Pestana Sintra Toastmasters que, na mesma situação, já é Distinguished. Fantástico!

Novos clubes prospect emergiram e, entre oficiais e prospects, já garantimos 33 clubes. É obra! Como sabemos, o Distrito 59, a que pertencemos, é o #1 do mundo com toda a justiça. Ainda assim, a Toastmasters nos E.U.A., ao contrário do que acontece na Europa, tem muito mais clubes corporativos que comunitários. Na verdade, o programa de clubes corporativos é um sucesso inequívoco. Milhares de clubes em mais de 100 países são propriedade de empresas. Cisco Systems, Ericsson, Microsoft, Banco Europeu de Investimento, Hewlett-Packard, Philip Morris, Cap Gemini, Accenture, Google, Kone Elevadores, Morgan Stanley e eBay são apenas alguns dos nomes sonantes que retiram benefícios diários por terem os seus talentos a treinar competências de comunicação e de liderança num clube Toastmasters. Atenta a este fenómeno, a Direcção do Distrito 59 decidiu agir e propor a realização de um evento corporativo em quatro cidades europeias, em simultâneo: Brno, Helsínquia, Zurique e Lisboa. Aceitámos de imediato o desafio e não deixámos os nossos créditos por mãos alheias. Organizámos um Corporate Summit inesquecível, tanto para as dezenas de representantes de grandes empresas, como para nós. O objectivo foi amplamente alcançado e o feedback espectacular. Divulgámos e credibilizámos o conceito, várias organizações manifestaram a intenção de abrir o seu próprio clube e, na minha opinião, ainda mais importante, todas elas passaram a valorizar o programa educacional dos Toastmasters. Tenho a certeza que estas empresas passarão a estar muito mais atentas a todos quantos possuírem certificações Toastmasters. Lembro-me perfeitamente de, praticamente no encerramento da reunião, um dos gestores presentes no Summit ter pedido a palavra para dizer: “Vocês são mesmo muito bons”. E nós, quase em uníssono respondemos de imediato: “Somos Toastmasters!”. É um orgulho fazer parte desta equipa.

[Fellow Toastmaster, We are in a truly sparkling phase of the Toastmasters organization in Portugal. The speech contests definitely started. Dozens of speakers throughout the country cherish the expectation of becoming our next champions, in the competitions taking place at the national conference, on May 3rd, in the large auditorium of Taguspark in Oeiras. It will be a great celebration for the Portuguese Toastmasters. You will not want to miss it! We remain committed in taking Toastmasters everywhere. New prospect clubs emerged and between official and prospects, we had already guaranteed 33 clubs. It’s a great work! And we are not stopping. The team - which is all of us – has already shown very high levels of ambition, commitment and competence, and for sure, we will add some more clubs to the existing base. If you want to open a Toastmasters club, and want to have an extraordinary experience of entrepreneurship and leadership, contact the Division Club Building Coordinator José Manuel Barros. The quality and the environment that we live in our clubs is also a huge motive for pride. Fortunately, we have metrics that allow us to assess this dimension. At just three months until the end of the year, 16 of our 23 official clubs are already Distinguished. All are having incredible results, but it is fair to highlight the Barreiro Toastmasters which, despite having done the charter only this year, it is already President's Distinguished, and the Pestana Sintra Toastmasters that, in the same situation, is now Distinguished. Fantastic! As we know, District 59, to which we belong, is the fair world's # 1. Still, Toastmasters in the U.S., unlike what happens in Europe, has many more corporate clubs than community clubs. Indeed, the program of corporate clubs is an huge success. Thousands of clubs in more than 100 countries are owned by companies. Cisco Systems, Ericsson, Microsoft, European Investment Bank, Hewlett-Packard, Philip Morris, Cap Gemini, Accenture, Google, Kone Elevators, Morgan Stanley and eBay are just some of the big names that earn daily benefits by having their talents training communication and leadership skills in a Toastmasters club. Aware of this phenomenon, the Board of the District 59 decided to act, and propose to hold a corporate event in four European cities, simultaneously: Brno, Helsinki, Zurich and Lisbon. We immediately accepted the challenge, and did justice to our reputation. We organized a memorable Corporate Summit, both for the representatives of large companies, as for us. The objective was largely achieved, and we had an amazing feedback. We spread and gave credibility to the concept, several organizations expressed their intention to open his own club and, in my opinion, even more important, they all started to value the educational program of Toastmasters. I am sure that these companies, from now on, will be much more alert to all people who possess Toastmasters certifications. I perfectly remember, at the end of the meeting, one of the Managers participating in the Summit said: "You are really good“. And we, almost immediately, answered in one voice: "We are Toastmasters!". I’m proud to be part of this team.

s negócios são as pessoas. Partindo desta base, um factor determinante para o sucesso de um qualquer negócio é a constituição das equipas de forma a que todos possam “remar” no mesmo sentido. E assim é também numa amizade, numa relação, num qualquer projecto, pelo que não poderia deixar de o ser num clube Toastmasters. Sendo fundamental para o sucesso de qualquer clube, em qualquer fase do seu ciclo de vida, isto é ainda mais determinante na fase inicial de implementação e construção do novo clube.

[The businesses are the people. From this basis, a key factor for the success of any business is the formation of teams so that everyone can "paddle" in the same w ay. And so is in a friendship, in a relationship, in any project, and therefore it could not be different in a Toastmasters Club. Being critical to the success of any club, at any stage of their life cycle, this is even more crucial in the initial phase of implementation and building of the new club. Given the volume of w ork and planning that is necessary until the demo session, it is absolutely central that officers can rely on each other to distribute the different tasks, namely, communication to institutions and social netw orks, place and logistics, promotional material or the Application-to-Organize.

Tendo em conta o volume de tarefas e planeamento que é necessário até à sessão de demonstração, é absolutamente central que os officers possam contar uns com os outros para se distribuírem pelas diferentes frentes, a saber, divulgação junto das instituições e nas redes sociais, espaço e logística, documentação promocional ou o Application-to-Organize. Além disso, a interacção entre os officers deve ser o mais previsível possível, de modo a que as ações de todos sejam mais fáceis de coordenar e tenham total aderência ao planeamento e aos calendários definidos.

Moreover, the interaction betw een the officers should be as predictable as possible, so that the actions of all are easier to coordinate and have full adherence to planning and timetables.

Para isso torna-se necessário que as pessoas confiem mutuamente no trabalho das outras, para que todos os esforços venham a convergir numa sessão de demonstração devidamente pensada, de modo a que nessa altura se criem condições para que o clube passe imediatamente a oferecer sessões regulares aos seus membros. Não é conveniente que exista uma interrupção da actividade do clube após a sessão de demonstração.

[For this it is necessary for people trust each other, in order that all efforts w ill converge in a demo session properly designed, so that it may create conditions for the club to start immediately offering regular sessions to its members. It is not appropriate that a disruption of the activity of the club occurs after the demo session.

E para que essas sessões regulares possam acontecer sem qualquer hiato entre a demo e a sessão seguinte, é absolutamente fundamental que se garanta desde logo uma boa adesão dos convidados, de tal forma que se transformem em membros efectivos em número razoável logo nessa primeira sessão. Isso exige todo um trabalho prévio dos officers do clube, na explicação do conceito ao maior número possível de convidados. Como muito provavelmente uma boa parte desses convidados provêem das relações pessoais e profissionais dos officers, este esforço deve constituir uma prioridade, exigindo elevada programação e entreajuda entre os membros da equipa.

And in order that these regular sessions can happen w ithout any gap betw een the demo and the next session, it is absolutely essential to ensure good connection w ith the guests, so that they become full members in a reasonable number, right in that first session. This requires a w hole prior w ork of the officers of the club, in explaining the concept to the largest possible number of guests. Probably, a good portion of these guests come from the personal and professional relationships of the officers, so this effort should be a priority, requiring high programming and mutual support among team members.

Tão importante como ter a sala cheia de TOASTMASTERS de outros clubes é, pois, criar as condições para que a maior parte dos convidados da sessão de demonstração tenham potencial para se transformarem em membros. É claro que os membros dos outros clubes são muito importantes, particularmente na fase inicial, tanto na preparação da sessão de demonstração, como nas primeiras sessões; no entanto, são os próprios membros que constroem a história e a vida do clube!

A saúde dos Clubes Mentoring

se te dissessem que há uma maneira muito prática de trabalhares a integração e a retenção dos membros do teu clube, não gostarias de a aproveitar? É o programa de mentoring e trabalha também a retenção a longo prazo. O programa de mentoring já funciona no teu clube? Se sim, garante que este é disponibilizado a todos os membros o mais breve possível, sejam eles novos ou já existentes, e que o membro tem a palavra no que toca à escolha do mentor. Se ainda não existe, e no caso de novos membros, procura junto de membros mais experientes disponibilidade para serem mentores de outros membros, para os ajudarem a integram-se no clube, assim como a os incentivarem para começar a desempenhar tarefas de liderança e a apresentar os seus discursos. O mentor deve fazer o acompanhamento do membro e ajudá-lo nos seus primeiros passos. Geralmente, o mentor costuma fazer este acompanhamento até ao terceiro ou quarto discurso, consoante os clubes. Porquê um mentor para membros já existentes? Imagina que alguém, apesar de já ter feito o projecto #5 do Competent Communicator, “Your Body Speaks”, quer continuar a aperfeiçoar a sua linguagem corporal, ou um membro que quer ajuda para iniciar um dos manuais avançados. s notícias são tão boas que se contam num instante. Norte: Terminámos dois programas com 26 alunos do 8º ano da Escola Secundária Fontes Pereira de Melo no Porto. No dia 26 tivemos uma sessão final

de apresentação à escola e aos pais. Todos estavam tão entusiasmados quanto felizes! Um agradecimento muito especial à Professora Helena Martins. Centro: Começámos um programa com uma turma de 4º ano no Colégio Pátio da Marinha Grande. Sul: Dois membros do Business Speakers TM (Paulo Martins e Catarina Gomes) estão em contacto com dois colégios para a implementação do programa. O Almada Communication Leaders vai iniciar um programa com o Colégio Guadalupe, no dia 28 de Março. E já há planos para continuar no próximo ano lectivo. Estas são as boas notícias. Agora as notícias bombásticas! A Direcção Regional da Madeira ficou tão interessada no Youth Leadership Program, que decidiu avançar com a implementação não de um, nem de dois, nem de meia dúzia, mas de 15 programas. Sim, sim! Não é um erro! Um total de 15 programas em diferentes escolas! E ainda, como bónus, vão dar uma ajuda preciosa com a revisão da tradução do manual para os alunos, que o Rui Isidoro havia iniciado. E somos apenas uma mão cheia de pessoas! Imaginem se fossemos duas ou três mãos!!

[The new s are so good that it only takes a minute to report. North: W e finished tw o programs w ith 26 students from the 8th grade of High School Fontes Pereira de Melo, in Oporto. On the 26th w e had a final presentation session to the school and to the parents. Everyone w as as excited as happy! A very special thanks to the Teacher Helena Martins. Center: W e started a program w ith a group of the 4th year, at the College Pátio of Marinha Grande. South: Two members of the Business Speakers TM (Paulo Martins and Catarina Gomes) are in contact w ith tw o schools to implement the program. The Almada Communication Leaders w ill start one program w ith the Guadalupe College on March 28th. And there are already plans to continue in the next academic year. That's the good new s, Now the Bombshells! The Regional Direction of Madeira w as so interested in the Y outh Leadership Program, that decided to proceed w ith the implementation of not one, nor tw o, nor half a dozen, but 15 programs. Y es, yes! Y ou read it right! A total of 15 programs in different schools! And as a bonus, they w ill provide valuable support to the translation revision of the student’s manual, that Rui Isidoro had started last year. And w e are only a hand full of people! Imagine if w e were tw o or three hands! Now one more note to the tear in the eye. At the end of the presentation session at ES Fontes Pereira de Melo, the English teacher said: "Thank you for having show n us all that our students can do. I knew they w ere good, but did not think them capable of all this. Ah! And now I'll never accept "crappy" presentations anymore!"

Agora mais uma nota para a lágrima no canto do olho. No final da sessão de apresentação do grupo da ES Fontes Pereira de Melo, a professora de inglês dizia: “Obrigada por nos terem mostrado tudo o que os nossos alunos podem fazer. Eu sabia que eles eram bons, mas não os achava capazes disto. Ah! E agora nunca mais vou aceitar apresentações ‘fatelas’!”

Toastmasters Portugal e IEFP Uma parceria com futuro! _Marco Meireles

o passado dia 1 de Abril, eu e o Daniel Sequeira reunimos no IEFP (Instituto de Emprego e Formação Profissional) com a Dra. Elsa Caramujo e a Dra. Patrícia Trigo, do Centro Nacional de Qualificação de Formadores. Mantivemos uma conversa bastante animada, que se veio a revelar extremamente produtiva. Constatámos que existe uma elevada percentagem de formadores certificados que necessitam de desenvolver urgentemente habilidades de comunicação e que o programa educacional Toastmasters pode ser uma resposta extremamente eficaz no modelo de desenvolvimento preconizado pelas nossas interlocutoras. Nesse sentido, foi muito fácil e rápido chegarmos a um entendimento que culminou numa parceria que dará muitos frutos a muito curto prazo. Este consórcio, que será alargado a todo o território nacional, terá o seu arranque oficial no dia 19 de Junho às 10h00, com uma sessão de demonstração nas instalações do IEFP em Xabregas, num auditório com capacidade para 200 pessoas. Esta é mais uma demostração inequívoca da utilidade e da versatilidade do nosso programa educacional que, bem utilizado, garante a todas as pessoas as ferramentas que necessitam para alcançar os resultados e o sucesso que almejam, através do desenvolvimento de competências de comunicação e liderança.

[In the past April 1st, me and Daniel Sequeira had a meeting in IEFP (Employment and Professional Training Institute) w ith Dra. Elsa Caramujo and Dra. Patricia Trigo, from the National Center of Qualification. W e kept a lively conversation, w hich proved to be extremely productive. W e had noticed that there is a high percentage of certified trainers w ho urgently need to develop communication skills, and the Toastmasters educational program can be an extremely effective response in the development model advocated by our interlocutors. Thus, it w as very easy and fast to reach out to an understanding, that ended in a partnership that w ill be very productive in the very short term. This partnership, w hich w ill be extended to w hole national territory, w ill have its official launch on June 19th at 10 am, w ith a demonstration session on the premises of IEFP in Xabregas, in an auditorium w ith capacity for 200 people. This is another clear demonstration of the value and versatility of our educational program that, w ell used, guarantees all people the tools they need to achieve the results and success they aim, through the development of communication and leadership skills.

Novo Clube fez o seu Charter _Ana Neves

o passado dia 4 de Março, o Advanced Toastmasters Runners fez o seu Charter, inscrevendo 20 membros fundadores para assinalar a passagem de prospect club para clube efectivo. A sessão contou com a presença do District Governor, João de Mendonça, que participou nos discursos de improviso e nas avaliações. O Presidente do Advanced Toastmasters Runners, Luís Caetano, celebrou a data com todos os presentes e uma taça de champanhe. E que celebração bem merecida! A ideia de criar um clube avançado na Divisão L não é nova nem consensual dentro dos Toastmasters. O Luís sempre acreditou no valor acrescentado que um clube desta natureza poderia trazer para a comunidade Toastmasters e não desistiu do projecto até o concretizar agora, no Advanced Toastmasters Runners. O objectivo dos clubes avançados é o de criar sessões Toastmasters onde o grau de exigência seja maior. Não se trata apenas de ter discursos de manuais avançados; pretendese com estes clubes aprofundar a experiência Toastmasters. Neste sentido, o factor distintivo das sessões reside claramente nas avaliações.

O objectivo dos clubes avançados é o de criar sessões Toastmasters onde o grau de exigência seja maior. Tanto quanto possível o VPE, função que este ano cabe ao Diogo Beja, atribui aos oradores avaliadores que já tenham feito o discurso em avaliação. Desta forma, a avaliação é feita não apenas com base na leitura do manual e compreensão dos objectivos, mas também na própria experiência do avaliador. O feedback é dado conhecendo, em primeira mão, os desafios que aquele projecto específico coloca ao orador. O resultado são avaliações mais significativas, baseadas na experiência e com maior potencial de melhoria para o orador. Existe ainda uma função adicional na sessão: o de avaliador de uma função de liderança. Nesta função, a atenção foca-se no desempenho de uma das funções desempenhadas na sessão; pode ser qualquer uma das funções de liderança, como o ah-counter, o timer ou o tabletopics master, etc. No segmento das avaliações, a função é comentada em detalhe e são discutidas formas alternativas de fazer eficazmente aquela função específica. O avaliador geral comenta as restantes funções na sua apreciação da sessão. O Advanced Toastmasters Runners dá as boas-vindas a todos os Toastmasters e visitantes, mas para ser membro é preciso cumprir o requisito de ter concluído o manual Competent Communicator. As sessões do Advanced Toastmasters Runners realizam-se de quinze em quinze dias, às segundas-feiras, no Clube ISCTE e têm início às 19h30. Estão todos convidados a aparecer!

[In the past March 4th, the Advanced Toastmasters Runners made its Charter, registering 20 founder members to mark the passing from a prospect club to an effective club. The session w as attended by the District Governor, João de Mendonça, w ho participated in impromptu speeches and evaluations. The President of Advanced Toastmasters Runners, Luís Caetano, celebrated the date w ith all the people and a glass of champagne. And w hat a w ell deserved celebration! The idea of creating an advanced club in Division L is neither new nor consensus w ithin Toastmasters. Luis had alw ays believed in the value that a club of this nature could bring to the Toastmasters community, and did not give up the project until the end, now with the Advanced Toastmasters Runners. The purpose of the advanced clubs is to create Toastmasters sessions w here the level of demand is higher. It is not only for having advanced manual speeches; w ith these clubs the aim is to deepen the Toastmasters experience. In this w ay, the distinguishing factor of the sessions, clearly lies in the evaluations. As much as possible the VPE, function of Diogo Beja this year, the speakers have assigned evaluators that have already done that speech assignement. Thus, the evaluation is not just based on reading the manual and understanding the objectives, but also on the experience of the evaluator. The feedback is given by know ing, in first hand, the challenges that this particular project puts to the speaker. The result is more meaningful evaluations, based on experience and w ith more potential for improvement to the speaker. There is an additional function in the session: the evaluator of a leadership role. In this function, attention focuses on the performance of the role accomplished in the session; it may be any one of the leadership roles, as the ah-counter, timer or tabletopics master, etc.. In the segment of ratings, the function is commented in detail and alternative w ays of doing that particular function effectively are discussed. The general evaluator comments the remaining features in its assessment of the session. The Advanced Toastmasters Runners w elcomes all Toastmasters and guests, but to be a member you must fulfill the requirement of having completed the Competent Communicator manual. The Advanced Toastmasters Runners sessions take place every tw o w eeks, on Mondays, in Clube ISCTE, at 7.30pm. Y ou are all invited to show up!

MANUAIS AVANÇADOS Depois de terminar o primeiro Manual de Comunicação (CC), o Programa Educacional dos Toastmasters tem à disposição uma Série de Manuais de Comunicação Avançados, através dos quais os membros podem refinar e melhorar as suas capacidades de comunicação, tornando-se elegíveis para os reconhecimentos Advanced Communicator Bronze (ACB), Advanced Communicator Silver (ACS) e Advanced Communicator Gold (ACG). Há 15 manuais, cada um contendo cinco projetos. Muitos dos manuais são orientados para a carreira. Cada membro pode escolher os manuais que quer completar e as habilidades que quer aprender.

Europeu (Distrito 59) desde 1999, e actualmente contar com 323 clubes comunitários, o conceito de clube corporativo ainda não está muito enraizado na cultura europeia, ao contrário do que se passa nos Estados Unidos. Desta forma, o Distrito 59 decidiu apadrinhar a realização de um evento de promoção do conceito Toastmasters junto de uma audiência constituída por decisores empresariais, para que ficassem um pouco mais despertos para a realidade Toastmasters, valorizassem profissionais Toastmasters e, caso o desejem, fomentem a abertura de clubes nas suas empresas, promovendo desta forma, a melhoria das competências de comunicação e liderança dos seus profissionais.

[In the last March 31st, took place in Lisbon the first Toastmasters Corporate Summit event. Despite of the Toastmasters International organization being present in more than 20 countries among Continental Europe (District 59) since 1999, and having now adays 323 community clubs, the concept of corporate club is not so usual here as it is in United States. This w ay, District 59 decided to sponsor an event to promote the Toastmasters concept to an audience of business decision makers, in order to create aw areness regarding Toastmasters, to value Toastmasters professionals and, if they w ish, to stimulate the opening of corporate clubs in their companies, boosting their professional communication and leadership skills. The event took place in the Palacete Henrique Mendonça, w here Lisbon MBA has their regular Toastmasters meetings. The reception to invitees began at 12:30pm, and w as follow ed by a lunch at 13pm. After that, João de Mendonça, presented us “TOAST what?”, being follow ed by a Toastmasters demo session conducted by Luis Caetano, w ith tw o speeches delivered by Cristiani de Oliveira and Maria Fernandes. conferência nacional de Primavera dos Toastmasters Portugal vai realizar-se já no próximo dia 3 de Maio, no grande auditório do Taguspark. Vai ser uma enorme festa. Na verdade, prevemos que seja a maior de sempre a nível nacional. Temos garantido um auditório com capacidade para 280 pessoas e um palco capaz de impressionar o mais experiente dos oradores. Esta conferência, como não poderia deixar de ser, será palco da final nacional dos quatro concursos em disputa: discursos motivacionais em português, discursos motivacionais em inglês, discursos de avaliação em português e discursos de avaliação em inglês. Teremos no concurso os campeões de cada categoria das 5 Áreas da Divisão L. Pelo que já vi em alguns clubes, esta competição promete. [The national Spring Conference of Toastmasters Portugal w ill take place the next May 3rd. It w ill be a huge celebration. Truly, w e expect it to be the largest ever in the country. This conference, as it should be, w ill host the national final of the four contests in dispute: motivational speeches in Portuguese, motivational speeches in English, evaluation speeches in Portuguese and evaluation speeches in English. We w ill have in this contest the champions of each category of the 5 Areas of Division L. From w hat I've seen in some clubs, this competition is promising. W e assure you incredible logistical conditions, starting w ith the parking. If you come by car, you can leave it in the covered parking of the central building, w hich is just below the large auditorium w here the conference w ill take place. [Attention area L1 Toastmasters: a stop in Torres Vedras is a must in April. Land of Queens, Torres Vedras is know n for its good w ine and famous pastéis de feijão (a local bean pastry). On April 12th it w ill also be know n for the quality of the Toastmasters inspirational and evaluation speeches. This year, the Area L1 Spring Contest has been planned and organized in a different format. Hosted by Torres Toastmasters, the event w ill have the goal, not only to hold a competition of the highest level, but also to provide all Toastmasters participating the opportunity to spend time together and get to know the city. This w ay, Area L1’s Spring Contest agenda is the follow ing:

Como é habitual, foi uma sessão com discursos preparados e discursos de improviso. Os discursos preparados tiveram como título "O Populador", "A Voz do Povo", "Religião e Secularismo" e, por fim, "Uma Breve História do Panteão Nacional". E assim, além do treino na arte de falar em público, que nos caracteriza, tivemos a oportunidade de adquirir alguma informação sobre aquele monumento, bem como sobre alguns aspectos da História de Portugal. Tivemos também o nosso momento de convívio e pudemos contar com a presença de membros de outros clubes, bem como de alguns convidados. Ingredientes mais do que suficientes para já estarmos a pensar na próxima sessão de “Toastmasters com História”.

[The Lisbon Toastmasters Club held last March 23rd, one more session of "Toastmasters w ith History", this time in the National Pantheon! As usual, it w as a session w ith prepared speeches and impromptu speeches. The prepared speeches had the titles of "The Populador", "Voice of the People", "Religion and Secularism" and finally, "A Brief History of National Pantheon." And so, in addition to training in the art of public speaking, w hich characterizes us, w e had the opportunity to acquire some information about that monument, as w ell as some aspects of Portugal history. W e also had our moment of conviviality and could rely on the presence of members from other clubs, as w ell as some guests. Ingredients more than enough for us to be already thinking about the next session of "Toastmasters w ith History". Do not miss it!

transformações, através dos concursos Primavera. Constituídos pelos discursos preparados de motivação e discursos de avaliação, tanto em Português como em Inglês, estes concursos são mais uma prova das fantásticas evoluções que um membro Toastmaster pode beneficiar ao frequentar um clube. Os concursos de Primavera são realizados em cada clube, desafiando todos os membros Toastmasters a participarem. Os primeiros classificados ficam apurados automaticamente para os concursos de Área e, por sua vez, os vencedores dos concursos de Área concorrem ao nível da Divisão. Nesta altura haverá um vencedor do discurso motivacional e um do discurso de avaliação, ambos em português, ou seja, apura-se um Campeão Nacional nestas duas vertentes. Os discursos em inglês seguem para um nível superior, para o concurso de Distrito. Consequentemente, os vitoriosos continuam o seu percurso até ao campeonato mundial, sendo este o último patamar, que se realiza este ano em Kuala Lumpur.

No Almada Communication Leaders, o concurso ocorreu no dia 18 de Março, com o envolvimento e forte participação dos seus membros, contando com 8 participantes. José Manuel Barros venceu o discurso de avaliação e o discurso de motivação em inglês e Daniel Sequeira ganhou o discurso de motivação em português.

No dia 22 de Março foi a vez do YETC, com a participação de 15 concorrentes. Os campeões dos discursos de avaliação em português foi a Raquel Belo e em Inglês, o Luis Caixado. Nos discursos de motivação em português, o vencedor foi Hélder Nicolau, e em inglês a Raquel Belo.

O Almada Communication Leaders realizou no dia 11 de Março um evento de comemoração do 1.º aniversário do clube. Estiveram presentes 68 convidados, inclusive o presidente da Câmara Municipal de Almada, Dr. Joaquim Judas, e ilustres membros Toastmasters: João de Mendonça, Marco Meireles e Nelson Emílio, com a cobertura da TV Almada. Segundo o VPPR do Almada Communication Leaders, Paulo Silva, “Foi o resultado de um ano cheio de energia, criatividade e inovação dos membros do Clube ACL. Estamos a preparar mais, maiores e melhores desafios para os membros do Clube, porque continuamos com bastante vontade, muita dinâmica e imensa imaginação na criação e desenvolvimento de novos desafios e eventos para o ano em curso.” Também o Toastmasters Club Funchal esteve em festa no dia 18 de Março, na comemoração do seu 1.º aniversário.

Castelo Branco a passos largos para novo clube _Miguel Midões

Sintra TC e Beja TC deslocaram-se até Castelo Branco para apoiar a Sessão de Inauguração/Demonstração de mais este novo clube. O evento teve lugar no auditório da Biblioteca Municipal da cidade albicastrense e contou com a honrosa presença do presidente da Câmara Municipal, Luís Correia, e do vicepresidente do município, Arnaldo Brás. O edil Luís Correia sublinhou no discurso de abertura que o Castelo Branco Toastmasters Club é “uma grande iniciativa para a cidade e por isso terá todo o apoio da autarquia”. No final da sessão foram formados oito novos membros, garantindo assim a possibilidade de uma continuidade profícua dos Toastmasters nesta cidade da Beira Baixa. A segunda sessão ordinária do Castelo Branco Toastmasters Club decorreu no dia 27 de Março e as sessões irão decorrer às Terças-feiras, no Cybercentro da cidade, que já demonstrou todo o apoio a este novo clube.
