Connect to the future of

Your CPA Career No matter where you are in your career, CalCPA is

ready to contribute to your success. Some of the ways we do this most powerfully are through advocacy, image enhancement and leadership development.

Advocacy CalCPA’s goverment relations team advocates aggressively on our members’ behalf in Sacramento—giving you the voice of almost 37,000.

CalCPA is on alert for new legislation that may impact how you work or that would affect your clients or employers. Our full-time government relations

team advocates to make sure the CPA profession in California stays strong and profitable—while protecting the public.

Each legislative session brings more challenges to the profession. CalCPA

keeps you informed of new developments and works tirelessly to ensure regu-

6

lations are clear and reasonable, while upholding the public interest.

Image Enhancement Core to CalCPA is enhancing the image and promoting the integrity of the

CPA profession. CalCPA most directly influences key constituencies and public perception of CPAs through public and media relations as well as image

advertising. CalCPA also uses strong community outreach programs, such as

its financial literacy and student outreach initiatives, to build the image of CalCPA members and the profession with the public.

In addition to creating opportunities to position members as experts in the

media or their communities, CalCPA provides resources, such as press release

templates and media contacts, to help you promote yourself and your business.

7

Leadership Development Want to hone your leadership skills and become a more effective leader in your workplace or the profession?

CalCPA Leadership Institute is a high-level, five-day program that provides members with tools to develop their leadership skills and grow into future leadership positions at CalCPA and within the profession. This member

benefit is funded through the California CPA Education Foundation and CalCPA, so participant costs are nominal.

And to complement the CalCPA Leadership Institute, CalCPA Emerging Leaders certificate program is a seven-month program offered at the local

level to all 14 chapters. It provides training in critical leadership development

8

areas, while at the same time exposes YEP members to leaders in the profession who can also serve in a mentoring capacity.

Additionally, thousands of members have used local and statewide volunteer opportunities as a vehicle to sharpen their leadership skills. Opportunities

range from leading a local discussion group to serving on a chapter board to holding a statewide office.

Many volunteer efforts extend beyond supporting CalCPA directly, including

disaster relief assistance and pro bono tax preparation service. Member volunteers reach out and inspire bright, talented students to discover the integrity, trust and career diversity that is the CPA profession, while financial literacy

volunteers deliver practical personal finance education to schools, community groups, businesses and others throughout California.
