Toby Wagstaff
Edward Toby Wagstaff is a writer, editor, and script consultant who specializes in entertainment and conversational AI. Originally from the United Kingdom, he earned a first-class honors degree in Philosophy and Modern Languages (Italian) from the University of Oxford. He now resides in the United States, where he continues to make significant contributions in his field. During his academic journey, Toby spent a year in Rome, studying at the Università degli Studi Roma Tre. There, he immersed himself in cinema and art history courses, volunteered as a teaching assistant, and directed a student production of The Importance of Being Earnest. In addition to his academic pursuits, he worked as an English tutor and explored the city's rich heritage through photography. After completing his studies at Oxford, Toby launched his career in London's film industry. His early work included script analysis at Studio 8 Productions and Peace Arch Films, as well as an internship in post-production for the BBC series Monarch of the Glen. These experiences provided him with valuable insights into film editing, sound mixing, and color correction. In 2004, Toby gained his first significant production experience on the feature film Shadows in the Sun, starring Harvey Keitel and Joshua Jackson. Filmed in Tuscany and London, he served as an assistant to the producers, a translator, and occasionally as an on-screen double for the lead actor. Later that year, Toby moved to Los Angeles to join Fierce Entertainment as a Creative Executive. In this role, he was instrumental in developing the company's first in-house feature, War, starring Jet Li and Jason Statham. His efforts also led to a significant expansion of the company's buyers' rep operation. Recognizing his passion for writing, he transitioned to a role at Original Content, where he focused on nurturing new screenwriting talent.
