Strokes

SENSATIONAL

The ancient art of calligraphy is alive and well in modern form, adding

elegance to wedding invitations, ceremony programs, reception menus, and

more. If you’re on the fence about incorporating calligraphy into your wedding details, here are three reasons why you totally should!

All Yours

The beauty of calligraphy is that no two letters will ever be the same, making each design as unique as the wedding! The overall look of the lettering is heartfelt and personal, truly enhancing your wedding signage and stationery.

Simply Stunning It’s quite simple: Calligraphy is absolutely, positively stunning. It’s much more appealing to the eye as the elegant strokes of each word are crafted to perfection. You can work with a professional calligrapher to find your perfect “font” – completely distinctive for your big day.

Truly Timeless The art of calligraphy is truly timeless and something you’ll appreciate for years to come. Classic but increasing in popularity, this style of design is both romantic and sophisticated. Unlike invitation fads including pop-ups, storybook styles and bold metallic colors, calligraphy won’t be something you look back on and question.

So, get in touch with a local calligrapher! Find out what he or she charges and the different styles he or she offers. Professional calligraphers may have a portfolio available to allow you to choose the font that fits your vision. Shape, spacing, stroke, and weight are all factors in perfecting lettering. Calligraphy is all about quality signage that your guests will love! ♥

Turning Tables W

hen serving plated dinners, it’s important to have the proper utensils for all of your guests’ needs. Usually plated dinners are a more formal option and therefore should have multiple forks, spoons, and knives to use for different dishes. Of course, the number of utensils, glasses, and plates can be altered depending on what you’re serving! If you’ve decided to forgo a soup course or won’t offer bread, some dishes and flatware won’t be necessary. After the tables are cleared, servers should come around with mugs and saucers to offer guests tea or coffee. Reference the diagram to find out

IDEA

OVERLOAD

Having too many ideas when it comes to planning your wedding may not seem like the worst problem you could have; but trust us when we say that overloading on Pinterest can make your planning process an absolute nightmare.

Think of Pinterest as a starting place to get your creativity and ideas flowing. It should organize your thoughts and give you some inspiration, but it shouldn’t serve as your wedding planner or dictate every move you make when it comes to making design decisions. Most likely, your taste varies from day to day and your style changes with your mood. Likewise, there are different styles we’re each drawn to when planning our weddings. Do you want to stick with a timeless and elegant theme with soft pink peonies, gold centerpieces, and white accent decor? Or should you go for that bohemian feel with succulents and greenery, a flower crown, and a lot of signage with cute sayings? It can be hard to reconcile all the styles you love. So how can you keep yourself from getting overwhelmed by Pinterest’s many ideas? First, make a timeline. Allow yourself a certain amount of time to research design ideas – we’d suggest no more than 6 months – and then stop. Have your fiancé change your PinLOVEBOOK BY TODAY’S BRIDE

You know you need a break from Pinterest when your board begins to predict your pins. Clearly you have a style, so stop pinning and start planning!

terest password to keep yourself from perusing just for fun and falling in love with yet another DIY centerpiece idea. Once you’ve completed your research, ask yourself: “Is this a style that I will love 10 years from now?” If your answer is ‘no’ or even ‘I’m not sure’ then do not design your wedding after that theme. Not only will you be looking at these pictures for years to come and reliving the special moments, but future generations will admire these photos, too. Don’t just pick a style because it’s trendy right now. Do you see a common theme running through your inspiration? Is there one idea that you love more than others, or one aspect you cannot imagine having your wedding without? Design your wedding around your absolute favorite ideas and eliminate those that don’t fit.

Remember to include your fiancé in the planning process! The theme of your wedding should reflect who you are as a couple, so you shouldn’t pick a style that only represents you. Compare ideas with your fiancé and show him or her some of your inspiration to see what they like best. Remember, it’s their wedding day, too. Once you’ve chosen your theme and style, create a Final Wedding Ideas board. This board’s purpose is to organize your thoughts and present to the wedding vendors you meet so they understand your vision. It is not for coming up with new ideas or second guessing your decision! One huge tip when it comes to making your final wedding board - make it a secret board so that any of your guests that follow you on Pinterest will still be surprised when they arrive on your wedding day! We completely understand how addicting pinning beautiful wedding inspiration can be, but it is important to limit your ideas and find a theme that you will love. Once you have decided on a certain style, do not second guess your decision! As long as you and your fiancé agree on decor and design ideas that you absolutely love, your wedding day will be one that you cherish – now and for years to come. ♥ READ MORE ONLINE AT TODAYSBRIDE.COM

love If you want to include all the female guests attending – not just the single ladies – invite the women out to the dance floor for a dance-off. The bride can stand as judge with the trophy (bouquet) and decide who has the best moves. Go old school dance-style by tapping people on the shoulder to let them know they’ve been eliminated or simply choose a winner at the end of the song. To make things even more fun, have a tie-breaker dance between the two best dancers and let the rest of the reception guests decide the winner based on the volume of cheers for each dancer. Great songs to use for this are Spice Girls’ “Wannabe” or Katy Perry’s “Roar.”

1

Tossing Tradition

History says that single women would rip the bride’s dress or veil in order to obtain some of her good luck so brides began to throw their bouquet to single women to distract them. Thankfully, that situation isn’t common in today’s weddings, so we’ve come up with a few alternatives for you to replace the bouquet toss at your reception! Our favorite option to replace the bouquet toss is to lock up your bouquet or some kind of gift – like a gift certificate for a massage or a Kate Spade purse – in a box, birdcage, or chest. Pass out keys to every woman attending or, to save time, just the single girls. Whoever’s key unlocks the box gets the prize! What’s 2 great about this is that it gives the bride a chance to get creative with gift and box ideas! The downside to this option, though, is that the box may open before everyone gets a chance to try their key, which ruins the fun for some guests. LOVEBOOK BY TODAY’S BRIDE

A popular alternative that includes more of your guests is to invite all couples to the floor and have the emcee call out different marriage lengths at increasing intervals – like one year, ten years, and 25 years. If the couple has been married for that length of time or longer, they stay on the floor; if not, they must sit down. Whichever couple is the last standing gets the bouquet and has to offer marriage advice to the newlyweds. The last couple standing will appreciate the bouquet because it will remind them 3 of their own wedding, and their advice will add meaning and sentiment to yours. Your parents have done so much for you throughout the years, and have probably stepped in a lot during this planning process to offer advice, run errands, or keep you sane. One 4 beautiful way to thank your mother and motherin-law is by having two “toss” bouquets and handing one to each of them. This requires a speech or a few words of gratitude and love since all eyes will be on you, but it’s definitely one option that will bring tears to the eyes of your guests. Finally, you can make your toss fun for all the guests attending by tossing something other than flowers. Make a “bouquet” of scratch-off tickets, dollar bills, literature pages with beautiful love quotes, or whatever other creative ideas you can think of and both the bride and the groom can toss one to the crowd. This is a great way to bring some fun and excitement to the reception before the dancing gets started, and eliminates both the bouquet toss and the garter toss. You can try these trends – or create your own – to add a unique and modern touch to your wedding reception. One day, these new trends might just replace the traditions. ♥ 1. Orchard Photography 2. So you've found your man, now you need your girls.. How to ask your girlfriends to stand by your side on your wedding day

W

hen approaching the idea of who will stand beside you as you say “I do,” you have a lot of options on imaginative ways to ask. The latest trend in how to “pop the question” is presenting a Bridesmaid's Box filled to the brim with goodies and essentials for the day of the wedding. Because you know your girls better than anyone, the idea of the Bridesmaid Box gives you the freedom to be creative. Want to throw in a handwritten note reminding them of the first time you met, your first sleepover, or an inside joke? There's no better way to tug at their heart strings. Or maybe you would rather gift them with the jewelry you want them to wear on your wedding day and nail polish that matches your color scheme. The beauty of the box is that you can do just about anything with it. The best boxes will include a cute quote to make the bridesmaid-to-be feel special. Whether you want to go full-on cheesy and say “I can’t say ‘I do’ without you,” or lean in a more simple direction with “He picked me, now I pick you,” LOVEBOOK BY TODAY’S BRIDE

having a short quote is a sure way to bring tears to their eyes. The next step to making sure they can’t say no is filling it with lots of goodies and gifts. We love the idea of putting a ring pop in there-- after all, you got your ring, so they should get one too! You can decide to go classy and elegant with a stenciled champagne glass, a small bottle of bubbly, and an engraved wine opener, or keep it more budget friendly with pictures of the two of you and a letter. Throw in the movie Bridesmaids, a notebook, or inspirational pictures of how you want the day to look. Little note cards detailing how you expect your day to go, what your vision is for their dress, and what their role will be in your big day pair perfectly with a “tie the knot” ring. Seasonal Stems Daffodil

When selected thoughtfully, flowers further enhance even the most whimsical of weddings – and make a huge difference in the photographs you’ll keep for a lifetime. Choosing carefully means paying attention to color, size, and whether or not the flower is in season. Take a look at our favorite seasonal stems!

Daisy

Color

Combinations Whether you choose a rich, bold color scheme or a soft, subtle color scheme, metallics will compliment both beautifully. Check out our favorite combinations!

1

2

AFTERNOON DELIGHT

Featuring sepia, mango, plum, and sand, this color scheme incorporates both traditional and trendy colors. Decorate your laid-back lakeside celebration with this arrangement!

3

GORGEOUS GEMS

Amethyst, Emerald, Ruby, and Sapphire galore! Rich jewel tones are perfect for the couple looking for a deep and dramatic color palette that can go with any season.

4

SPRING SOIREE

Vivid and elegant, you will fall in love with this spring color combination! Scarlet, salmon, midnight, and apricot are much more creative than overused pastels.

VINTAGE ANTIQUE

Neutrals are always a winner. Featuring cream, nude, blush, and powder, this romantic palette never goes out of style. Sprinkle neutrals throughout a classic venue like a theatre or a grand ballroom. ♼
