ArchAIDE at work! How many things can a fragment of ceramic can tell us? How much information is hidden within it?
Quante cose può raccontare un frammento di ceramica? Quante informazioni vi sono celate? Ogni giorno, gli archeologi di tutto il mondo lavorano per scoprire e raccontare le storie che gli oggetti del passato hanno portato fino a noi, investendo molto tempo, energie e denaro per riconoscerne ogni singola parte. Un team internazionale di archeologi e informatici sta lavorando affinché questo lavoro possa diventare più semplice, automatico e a portata di un clic! Un progetto rivoluzionario che permetterà agli archeologi di studiare gli oggetti dell’antichità in modo più veloce e di condividere il loro sapere attraverso il web. Sarà sufficiente avere un tablet o uno smartphone per fotografare il proprio frammento, inviare le informazioni a un grande archivio, attivare un sistema di riconoscimento automatico dell’oggetto, ricevere la risposta e tutte le informazioni utili collegate, condividere on-line ogni nuova scoperta! Questo è ArchAIDE, il progetto che cambierà la vita degli archeologi… e un po’ anche la nostra storia!

Every day, all over the world, archaeologists spend a great deal of time, energy and money, to recognise each individual ceramic piece, to discover the stories that objects tell us about our past. An international team of archaeologists and ICT specialists are working to simplify and automate this work; to make it accessible by a “click”. A revolutionary project is now underway that will allow the study of archaeological objects more quickly, and the sharing of that new knowledge online. A tablet or a smartphone will be sufficient to take a photo of a fragment, send the photo and information to a database, activate an automated identification system, receive an answer with all the connected information, and share each new discovery online! This is ArchAIDE, a project to help change the lives of archaeologists… and even a little of our history!

¿Cuántas cosas puede contarnos un fragmento de cerámica? ¿Cuánta información esconde?
Cada día, arqueólogos de todo el mundo, invierten una gran cantidad de tiempo, energía y dinero en reconocer cada fragmento de cerámica y poder descubrir así las historias que los objetos pueden contarnos sobre nuestro pasado. Un equipo internacional conformado por arqueólogos e informáticos está trabajando para poder simplificar y automatizar este trabajo, dejándolo al alcance de un sólo “clic”! Un proyecto revolucionario que permitirá estudiar los objetos arqueológicos mucho más rápido, así como compartir su conocimiento online. Tan sólo es necesario fotografiar con una tablet o un smartphone un fragmento de cerámica, enviar la información a una base de datos, activar un sistema de identificación automático, recibir la respuesta con toda la información enlazada y compartir cada nuevo descubrimiento online! Ésto es ArchAIDE, el proyecto que cambiará la vida de los arqueólogos... ¡Y puede que también nuestra Historia!
Wieviel kann uns eine Keramikscherbe erzählen? Welche Informationen liegen darin verborgen?
Weltweit wenden Archäologen täglich viel Zeit, Energie und Geld auf, um jedes einzelne Stückchen Keramik zu bestimmen und ihm die Geheimnisse seiner Vergangenheit zu entlocken. Ein internationalesa Team von Archäologen unt IT-Spezialisten arbeitet zur Zeit an der Vereinfachung und Automatisierung dieser Arbeit; so wird die Information mit einem “Klick” abrufbar. Ein bahnbrechendes Projekt mit dem Ziel eines schnelleren Studiums archäologischer Objekte und einer freien Online-Bereitstellung des neuen Wissens hat begonnen. Das Tablet oder Smartphone wird ausreichen um Scherben zu fotografieren, die Fotos und weitere Erkenntnissen zu einer Datenbank zu schicken, ein automatisches Identifikationssystem zu aktivieren, eine Antwort mit weiterführenden Informationen zu erhalten und jede neue Entdeckung online zu teilen! ArchAIDE, ein Projekt, das die archäologiche Arbeit verändern wird … und vielleicht auch ein wenig unsere Geschichte.
