Florentine phonetics may sound really strange to you. These indigenous guys speak like a vacuum cleaner. They take the “c” phoneme and eat it. So the “c” disappears from every word. If you want joke with Florentine you can try to ask in the bar: “prego, una hoha hola hon la hannuccia horta”! It means: “please, coke with short straw”.
Sense of humor We are worldwide known for our sense of humor. Roberto Benigni, who directed many movies, like “La vita è bella”(Life is Beautiful), helped to spread our traditional culture. And, at the same time, he contributed to building a stereotype: Northern Italians especially think that Florentines are rowdy
Red numbers Often foreign tourists wander lost in the city centre, searching for hotel or restaurant. If you want to walk easy in Florence, you have to know something about civic numbers: shops, restaurants, hotels have civic red colored numbers; houses, some hotels and others have civic number blue colored. They’re not in sequence, so you can find the same number (but with different color) in different point of the same street! It’s better to watch well on guide or on the map if close to the number is there an “r” (that means “red” number), and if you are colorblind please ask someone…
È© $7©/,.(©$©/2&$/©È When you walk across Florentine food stands, you do notice that there are some dishes that are always suggested by the sellers e.g. ribollita and bollito sandwich.
Ribollita In Florence people love meat. You see lots of Florentines eat meat sandwiches in the streets. But there are traditional vegetable dishes too. Ribollita is the most characteristic: it’s a humble dish, a vegetable and stale bread soup which derives from rural tradition. People call it ribollita because in the past peasants cooked a big quantity of this soup and then they used to boil it again in the following days. Its basic ingredients are black cabbage and beans (if you want to try to cook it, we suggest cannellini variety). This is traditionally a winter dish but you can also find more “fresh” variants which are able to adapt to summer evenings.
sandwich at lunchtime. What is it: you can’t say that “it’s only meat within two slices of bread”. The boiled beef (or veal) meat has to be cooked in a careful way, together with onion, carrots, garlic, stalk celery and aromatic herbs for several hours. Then, when the meat is very soft, you have to slice it in paper thin slices. Bread is covered with sauces: you can put green or red sauces, or even both of them. Green sauce base ingredients are parsley, capers, anchovy filets and plenty of olive oil. Red sauce, instead, is a very spicy tomato based sauce.
Red wine In Florence Chianti wine is popular as beer in Germany or Coke in USA. There are many enoteca where you can drink a little glass of red wine like a real Florentine who loves talking and joking with friends and drinking Chianti.

Bollito sandwich: it derives from rural tradition too. We said it before, Florence is the “meat city”. And Florence’s citizens like to eat bollito
Tuscan bread is salt-free, a tradition that dates back centuries (Dante mentioned it in the Divine Comedy) to a revolt over its high price.

To enjoy Florence’s atmosphere you have to learn at least a few words. So here is a very short Florentine language course. Bischero/ Bischerate: the first word is an adjective and it means “stupid”. It has an affective nuance. Usually we use it to address our friends. You can flick the cheek of one of your new friends and say “Te sei proprio un bischero”. The second words means “foolish things”. As we said before, we love to make jokes. When we’re in town and we’d like to behave like adolescents we say we’re going to do some “bischerate”. They offer a fixed price menu: at lunch time, you can have first course, second course and wine by paying 12 euros. In the evening you pay just one euro more. The place is comfortable and the owners are very nice. I had lunch here with my father when he came to visit me. People you’ll find in it: mostly students and workers.

Historically the first disco in Florence. The legend says that the owners went to USA to take some cues. Borgo San Frediano 20r La Citè is nothing like a bar. It’s dynamic and open to new experiences so we can say it looks more like a cultural centre. For example, you can have a glass of wine while reading books about travels. You can enjoy live music, as the bar is often set for live concerts. If you’re interested in cultural meeting (such as debates, book presentations etc) this is the place for you.

Florence seems to be a very busy city but in fact there are different places where you can relax and take a breath: parks. Where are they? You may not be aware of this but there are many in and around the city centre. The biggest one, where Florentines usually spend their summer Sundays, is the park of the Cascine. Here you can have pic-nic with your friends, you can ride your bike .

When Roman Empire fell down Ostrogoti conquered the town, then in 1115 town became free Common that gave strong impulse about arts and crafts. During 1200 in Florence grew up new middle class who creates an intense political atmosphere.
Medici held city until the death of Gian Gastone, in 1737, and then Anna Maria Luisa left Granducato in the hand of Lorena family, with an important clause: all Medici’s collections were lefting for ever to the city.
