BlackChili Compound This unique tread rubber mixture which is only produced in our German factory has revolutionised bicycle tyres. The resultant compound showed a new relationship between grip and rolling resistance. This ‘Elevated level, as it was previously known, was given the name BlackChili’. Countless test wins that were shown in laboratory tests show a tangible benefit. The latest polymers, nanoscale soot particles and optimized fillers all guarantee a unique performance, from downhill MTB tyres to the time trial tyres of the ProTour, they are second to none in their respective areas. BlackChili Compound improves rolling resistance by 26 % and provides 30 % more grip than activated silica compounds. Tyres with BlackChili compound also impress with higher mileage and unlike many multicompounds, provide a constant ride from the first to the last kilometre.

Vectran™’s advantage Vectran™ is spun from Vectra liquid crystal polymer, which results in a thread that is thermoplastic and has multifilaments. This semicrystalline material is harder then aramid, has five times higher tensile strength than steel and in addition, is also lighter than comparable nylon thread. Vectran™ maintains these attributes even in the most adverse weather conditions.

PolyX – built to resist! With the PolyX-Breaker, we are bringing our car expertise to the bicycle tyre sector. Polyester has been used successfully in car tyres for years and has proven itself over and over. The highly durable polyester thread is crossstitched with a close mesh. As a result, very high fabric density is achieved, which not only makes the breaker more durable against foreign objects, but also particularly resistant to punctures.

Race sport – easy, quick and secure. Uncompromisingly designed for mountain bike XC and marathon racing. The race sport casings combines consistent lightweight design and exceptional puncture protection at the highest level. The design makes the difference – an especially fine, high quality nylon fabric with an intricate and universally protective rubber casing, together with the legendary BlackChili compound for the ultimate race day tyre.

ProTection – carefree epic ride. Better than ever before – our new ProTection carcass is ready for duty! The addition of a ProTection layer under the tread and in the sidewalls makes it particularly durable and resistant to injury/damage or penetration of foreign bodies. The hardcore racers! Our Vectran™ and BlackChili technologies have been radically applied to this uncompromising race tyre set. The new GP Attack benefits from its special version of our BlackChili Compound that gives the streamlined 22 mm front tyre more grip with lower rolling resistance. The optimum front wheel tyre gets you quickly into the turns, feeling light and responsive whilst providing ample service life. The new GP Force is a powerful rear wheel specialist and with its 24 mm section width combined with a fast BlackChili Compound, it gives excellent traction and road handling that’s second to none. Both tyres are made with Vectran™ puncture protection and show wear and tear levels via indicators in the tread, details that show professionals are at work.

Grand Prix 4000 S

Fast, smart, special. The Grand Prix 4000 S boasts global appeal as the best all round race bike tyre on the market. Not only is it fast and super grippy, thanks to its state of the art BlackChili rubber compound, but it is also tough with a healthy tread layer and of course our Vectran™ anti puncture breaker layer underneath. So for reliability, longevity and all out performance for your race machine, the GP 4000s is the only choice. Now also available in 700 x 25C.

Grand Prix 4000

The star in the peloton! For the coloured GP 4000 tyres, the activated silica compound improves the handling at stability limits and gives great rolling resistance. The anti-tear formula in the rubber compound prevents tread brittleness while increasing mileage performance. The extra special thing about the GP 4000 and GP 4000 S is their puncture protection made from Vectran™ liquid crystal fibres. The patented Vectran™ Breaker reconciles the conflicting goals of low weight, low rolling resistance and top puncture and cut resistance in a fascinating manner.

Grand Prix TT

You can’t go faster, can you? The Grand Prix TT follows in the tracks of the time trial tubular tyre Podium TT: a pure time trial tyre for serious competitors. Its ambitions are already optically apparent. A slick centre tread profile ensures a few seconds are saved whilst the slightly roughened shoulders give that extra assurance on rougher B road bends. Particularly light thanks to a minimised tread and indescribably fast due to the latest “BlackChili Compound”. Its Vectran™ Breaker protects reliably from the threat of punctures on rougher roads. Handmade in Germany – of course!

Grand Prix Supersonic

Faster than the speed of sound! With the Grand Prix Supersonic your contact with the road can be tuned to minimum weight and minimum rolling resistance. Together with a “Race 28 Supersonic” inner tube, our quickest tyre weighs only 200 g! The slick rolling area made out of a carbon black mixture looks cool and is of course made using our BlackChili recipie. But be cautious! The Grand Prix Supersonic is a very apt weapon in fighting for a personal best time, although for this extra speed, the tyre does not feature any additional puncture protection and has limited mileage use. With this in mind, the Grand Prix Supersonic is not a tyre for training!

Technology from hell! Thanks to its DuraSkin™ anti-tear fabric, the Grand Prix 4-Season holds up under extreme conditions. In the Paris – Roubaix race, the “Hell of the North”, cyclists equipped with DuraSkin™ enhanced tyres have the fewest tyre related problems during the race. Incorporating our special wear resistant carbon compound, the tyre is characterized by very good mileage performance as well as excellent adhesion on wet roads and at low temperatures. With the 23 mm, 25 mm and 28 mm versions, the Grand Prix 4-Season makes it possible to select the right tyre for various road qualities and comfort requirements. A double Vectran™Breaker belt under the tread raises the puncture and cut protection to the highest level available on the market. “The Continental GP 4-Season is the standard: full score in all categories! The continuous 3-layer carcass reinforces the sidewalls without extra weight, which makes the new Grand Prix ProTection especially safe. When riders are prepared to sacrifice a tiny weight penalty for the extra ‘beef’ within their tyre, the benefits will be a longer lifespan and great puncture protection. Made in Germany for sportives, marathons and multi-day tours. Grand Prix

The epitome of a racing tyre! The Continental Grand Prix wrote racing history. It marked the start of the triumphant success of the modern racing tyre in the late 1980s, and remains a synonym for quality and performance to this day. The stars of the latest generation are the PolyX-Breaker and BlackChili Compound, which offer an outstanding combination of puncture protection, smooth running, durability and grip. The modern profile design and TWI wear display provide the finishing touches to the performance. Handmade in Germany with either a rigid (wire) or folding (aramid) bead in many sizes including the popular 23-622 (700x23) dimension.

Grand Prix Classic

The modern classic. It is not only visually that the authentic design of the Grand Prix Classic upgrades any retro race bike, or modern for that matter! It’s what’s inside that also counts, after all this new addition to the Continental range, with its brown sidewalls and Conti Sport-Profil tread from 1982 is actually based on the current Grand Prix tyre. Thanks to a PolyX-Breaker, highly stable and fine 180 tpi nylon carcass and the legendary BlackChili Compound, it presents itself technically as a state-of-the-art racing tyre. Hometrainer

The roller tyre. With a modern roller and the Hometrainer in the house, winter can set in when it wants to. Thanks to its special cold-running compound, the Hometrainer doesn’t experience the heat buildup of a road tyre, nor does it suffer the tread separation that the road tyre is prone to under the special loads that occur when cycling and braking on the roller’s revolving drums.

Grand Prix 4000 SR

The Challenger. The Grand Prix 4000 tubular may be missing the aura of the old champion, but the challenger is enticing professional cyclists with its new technology. Podium TT

The time machine. TT stands for time trial. Entire tours are decided in the fight against the clock, just look at Cadel Evans’s victory on Conti Podium TT’s in the 2011 Tour de France. This is reason enough to offer particularly fast tyres. While it was conceived as a time trial tyre, the Podium TT is also very popular with professionals for normal races. The reason for this is its construction. Thanks to the latest BlackChili Compound, this chrono specialist, available in 19 mm and 22 mm width, is not only super fast, but its Vectran™Breaker offers excellent puncture prevention. In addition, the 22 mm width version of the Podium is lightweight at only 205 g. A low weight means low rotation energy. The thickness of the tread was reduced to 0.7 mm, which is still enough for a few tough race days. The ultrafast slick tread shows how fast it really is even when it’s not moving.

The specialist for circuit races or the criterium. Its function is in its name. The Sprinter is a fast tyre for the shorter road events like criteriums. With a nylon puncture protection breaker it is now even more reliable without losing its terrific rolling qualities. Its flexible casing and the extremely adhesive BlackChili Compound keeps contact with the road even in fast 90° bends. With its low weight and good acceleration it is most definitely the fastest tyre in the last 400 metres.

Sprinter

The fast endurance runner. Inheriting the best qualities of the highly popular GatorSkin road tyre, namely the durable carbon black tread mixture, the effective puncture protection breaker layer and the DuraSkin™ anti-cut fabric. The Sprinter GatorSkin itself features the typically comfortable and light feel of a tubular tyre. The attributes of carbon and aluminium. The aluminium rim cement for tubulars is completely different from the carbon aluminium cement for tubulars. This is particularly true for the connection between the tyre and the rim. The crucial factor here is the different surface structure and primarily the different heat conductivities of the materials. It is thus important to use different types of cement for the different attributes of the materials. Aluminium rim cement for tubulars. The aluminium rim cement for tubulars, in the typical continentalyellow packaging, has proven itself for decades. Generations of racing cyclists and mechanics rely on this cement. Maximum safety is achieved with high adhesive strength and good processability, the most important aspect of cemented tyres. The classic bead guarantees a perfect fit and the application is conventional. However, processing differs entirely from that of the carbon cement, so please always pay attention to the application information. Carbon rim cement for tubulars. Carbon rim cement for tubulars, in a black packaging, was specifically designed for increased thermal strain and the particular properties of the surface of carbon. The unfavourable heat dissipation of carbon softens conventional cement, particularly during long descents, which means that the tyre may become detached from the rim. The carbon cement, which has been especially developed for carbon rims, remains hard even at high temperatures. Note: It is essential to pay attention to the application instructions! Note: Carbon tubular cement for carbon rims must be handled differently to conventional tubular cement for aluminum rims. Always observe the processing information on the packaging.

This is the absolute top product from our tubular tyre range, manufactured in Korbach. Every structural element is chosen carefully and mounted by hand – where a tenth of a second decides races, precision and perfection are requested. The Olympic is suitable for all velodrome cycling disciplines. Its highly firm casing allows a pressure of up to 15 bar and at the same time it was optimized for the lowest possible rolling resistance and the lowest possible weight.

Black Beauty on the track. The special class is the reference in indoor time trials. For generations a synonym for reliability – Appreciated worldwide and hotly desired by riders as well as mechanics. We have now optically updated the classic among the velodrome tubular tyres. Tempo II

Speed is everything. We’ve made the Tempo go even faster! With an extremely fine nylon carcass and the latest BlackChili Compound it is a credit to its name. Designed for the track, as a very light and extremely fast competition tubular tyre, it is also bought by famous professionals and “misused” for mountain tours and time trials. Handmade in Korbach, it is however not recommended for use in road races due to its uncompromising composition.

Saalsport

Tyres for trick cycling, cycle ball and bicycle polo as well as indoor wheelchair sports. The Saalsport grips very well on all indoor surfaces and does not leave traces of abrasion behind. Its highly firm casing withstands the extreme strains of indoor cycle sports and the high shear force of wheelchair sports. The Saalsport tyre is cemented as a tubular tyre onto special tub rims. This is the only way to warrant that the tyre doesn’t jump off of the rim in narrow bends. According to our experience, especially in wheelchair sports a cemented tubular tyre is irreplaceable.

Continental Tubeless Tyres for the Universal System Tubeless. Tubeless Tyres by Continental work with both UST and Rigida/Nagesti rims and wheels. Tyre and rim form an airtight chamber. A tube is not necessary and pinchflats not possible anymore. In comparison to the conventional system, the tyre pressure can be lowered. The comfort of the ride increases. At a lower tyre pressure the tyre deflects more. The contact patch of the tyre increases and the tread adapts to the ground better. Tubeless tyres allow decreased air pressure and therefore deliver more traction.

Apex The sidewalls of freeride and downhill tyres are subjected to extraordinarily high loads. A rubber profile between the carcass layers ensures stability. The Apex sits on the tyre bead and reinforces the sidewalls of the tyre. The tyre does not impact on the rim during rough rides over rocky ground. The tyre stays more upright when cornering. It does not bend over the sides of the rim when subjected to transverse loads, and always stays true to the course.

Aristocracy has its duties. This intermediate tyre does particularly well on forest ground which can by all means be wet, but also convinces bikers with its arrangement of studs on rocky terrain. The extra thick, double-layer carcass with Apex effectively prevents punctures. It’s BlackChili Compound, which is particularly soft and has good gripping qualities, is extremely tough and its rolling resistance and abrasion are sensationally low. This is perfect for anyone who wants to achieve their personal best times. The Baron 2.3 can take a hard landing too, but from just 800 grams is by far the better choice for freeriders or anyone for that matter who are not competing on the downhill circuit. X-King – The all-rounder! Pronounced ‘cross king’, the X-King perfectly fills the gap between our Race King and Mountain King II in terms of application. The tyre is designed for XC and trail use with speed as the main priority. It was developed in conjunction with the Topeak-Ergon professional MTB team who have now already recorded many race wins on what they call the ‘perfect race day tyre’. Besides the standard versions, high spec German made versions are also available in the form of the ProTection and RS models, both featuring our legendary BlackChili compound. Couple this with the cleverly designed tread pattern which provides ample traction yet almost the rolling sensation of a much slicker tyre, and you have a seriously fast tyre option. Irina Kalentieva won two World Championships on Race King tyres as well as countless other wins. When it’s dry, the Race King is faster, cleaner and safer. Rolling resistance is almost on a par with race bike tyres. Twister 1.9

The speed master. A tyre for cross-country competition in dry/hard conditions. Thanks to its new feature, the BlackChili tread compound, the Twister offers the lowest possible rolling resistance and unbelievable adhesion. Weighing in at a mere 370 g, the Twister Supersonic is a true tuning component which doesn’t slow things down in the least. But beware, Supersonic tyres offer limited puncture protection compared to other formats.

Biking pleasure on all trails. Tyres of the width 2.3 are versatile. They can be used on forestry centre trails as well as daring downhill descents. The Marathon specialist. Designed as an intermediate tyre for cross country trail riding and racing, the Vapor concentrates on fast rolling, using the GravityArc™ tread design. Wide centre lugs keep the tyre rolling fast whilst the Arcs (lug bases) in the shoulders create stable handling under cornering for predictable handling.

Vertical 2.3

ECO – the energy saving tyres. The tyres with the Continental ECO logo benefit from over 100 years of experience in the development of mopeds and motorcycle tyres. Optimized and recommended for e-bikes at speeds of up to 25 km/h, they guarantee low roll resistance and good puncture protection with their extra high quality construction. The durability has been studied on e-bikes to prevent early wear and tear due to the additional drive forces. Some models, such as the TopContact II, also have the ECE-R 75 test label which authorizes use on fast e-bikes up to 50 km/h.

TWI (Tread Wear Indicators) – Safety comes first. The wear condition on a treaded tyre is easily recognisable whereas profile free tyres or slicks are much harder to determine. For that reason Continental began introducing wear indicators on profile-free race tyres for the first time at the Grand Prix 4000 in 2004. The TWIs (Tread Wear Indicators) are now being used on almost all Continental race tyres. If both small circular depressions at the centre of the tread are no longer visible, that means it’s time to change the part, an important aspect for your safety. Wear indicators are also used for in-town trekking and on e-bike tyres. The TopContact II has small bars in the profile base which indicate a minimum profile depth of 1.6 mm. You can identify Continental cycle tyres with TWIs from the appropriate marking on the sidewall.

The chic and sporty city speedster. This is a tyre for fast and comfortable propulsion in the city. The tread is designed with smooth rolling and grip on hard surfaces in mind. A lightly grooved tread ensures a smooth transition into corners with high rolling comfort and low rolling resistance. This is the tyre for smooth-running modern city bikes.

CruiseContact

Size does matter. The brand new CruiseContact combines comfort convincingly with light running and safety. The extraordinary suspension due to a large air volume and the dynamic profile convey a safe feel on all types of road surfaces. The tried and tested tyre composition of the Contact family with its fine nylon carcass and a safety system breaker is responsible for its nimbleness and protects from breakdowns. Voluminous enough in the dimensions 50-559 and 50-622 to show off its design qualities and still fit securely into most frames and rear constructions. The CruiseContact reveals its optimal properties at an operating pressure of between 22 to 36 PSI.

TravelContact

The globetrotter. You can’t develop a tyre for globetrotters on the drawing board. So that is why all of Tilmann Waldthaler’s experience has been put to use in the development of the TravelContact. His requirements were obvious: a robust carcass with a high carrying capacity and protection against chafing and cuts, effective puncture resistance and last but not least, a tread that makes it possible to explore paths around the world quickly and safely. A foldable version is of course also available to take along as a spare. The TravelContact is ideal for touring all kinds of routes – along the Weser river in Germany or the best bikespots in the world.

For example, a suitable and durable high pressure rim strip, such as the Continental EasyTape which is available in several dimensions, allowing you to obtain the correct fit on any rim. Our Alu and Carbon Rim Cements ensure a secure connection between wheels and tubular tyres. Valve extensions available in several lengths are an indispensable accessory in racing and of course the sensible Conti Tubes, available in all dimensions, designs and types of valves, made from high quality butyl rubber with a uniform wall thickness. The new system and overview is designed to make ContiTube particularly user friendly allowing you to quickly find the suitable tube for your needs. Varying tube types can affect your tyres’ handling characteristics with little effort: the Standard tube, available in all dimensions, offers the best compromise for everyday cycling, weight demands, while the Light and Supersonic tube accommodates weight and rolling resistance for a noticeable custom ride. Since their lower wall strength of up to 0.45 mm enhances the risk of punctures, it is essential to inflate lighter tubes more often. We recommend an all-round worry-free product, the Hermetic Plus tube. Its improved formula is lighter and more compact, which renders it very puncture resistant in the presence of higher butyl amounts and greater wall thickness. Since it retains air longer, it’s a favourite among bicycle rental agencies. Our Freeride and Downhill tubes are especially strong and bulky, which make it one of our favourites, since their extra wall thickness effectively protects against punctures.

Rim Tape Small component = large impact. A poorly constructed or unsuitable tyre rim tape is the cause of many punctures. It is especially important with hollow section rims to use a pressureresistant rim band which covers the entire rim. The fabricreinforced Continental Easy Tape rim protector was especially developed for usage under high air pressure conditions. The various widths enable a perfect fit for all standard rims. The high pressure design for racing cyclists contains as much as 220 PSI, without becoming deformed. The flat construction type also significantly eases the job of tyre fitting.

Casing construction & tpi – the makeup of the basic tyre structure. The carcass is the basic structure for all tyres. The construction of the carcass, the material and the thickness of the thread depends on the demands that are placed on the tyre. Continental always works with high-quality carcasses made from nylon strings that are first woven and then rubberised. Nylon can be easily combined with rubber and is durable in all types of weather. The thickness of the thread gives the tyre its specific attributes. Thread thickness is recorded in tpi (threads per inch) and describes the number of threads per 2.54 cm (1 inch). Fabrics used have 22 tpi, 28 tpi, 60 tpi and 110 tpi. Very fine material makes the tyre smoother and protects the carcass from punctures. Coarse fabric is more cut-resistant and makes the tyre more robust. The choice of fabric correlates to the purpose of use. The standard is a three-ply basic carcass. Additional breakers can be put under the tread in order to reinforce the tyre even more and to increase puncture protection. There are different types of breaker builds and materials for different uses whether they are highly elastic specialty rubber, such as our Plus brand or fabric breakers, such as PolyX and Vectran™ in our race tyres. You can see how the tyre is constructed in the tyre specification. Points listed are the number of layers, the sum of the tpi and the type of puncture protection. 3/180 + Vectran™ is equivalent to three layers of a 60 tpi fabric with an additional Vectran™Breaker.

BlackChili Compound – it’s all about how you mix it. In the research and development laboratories for Continental bicycle tyres in Korbach, Germany, the staff and engineers have been looking for the solution to one of the fundamental problems of tyre construction: The running properties of the rubber compound of a tyre are largely determined by three interacting factors: static friction (grip), rolling resistance and mileage. The dilemma is that you improve one of these factors, and in turn, worsen at least one other factor. A tyre with maximum grip wears out faster and rolls slower. If one makes the tyre faster or more durable, then this in turn reduces grip. With the then current highest standard of compound technology, the Activated Silica Compound having already reached a very high standard of compromise, our developers wanted to take compounding to an even higher level. This lead them to venture into new territory, exploring new ways so that in 2005 they made a breakthrough in mixing technology, the first steps to what is now known as BlackChili. This revolutionary compound is based on the latest findings on polymer and other raw material research. For Black Chilli we refine newly developed synthetic rubbers with natural rubber with the proven high-performance tread compound. We use these rubbers with special nanometric carbon soot particles, which are optimized in shape and surface properties for best uses for the intended tyre. BlackChili compound reaches an unprecedented of performance. Tyres with BlackChili compound reach an unprecedented level of performance. Compared to the previous best Activated Silica Compound, BlackChili tyres have 26 % less rolling resistance, a 30 % higher friction value (grip) and a 5 % increase in mileage. BlackChili technology never stands still as it is continuously developed and tailored to the individual applications of new Continental tyres as they continue to be produced out of the Korbach factory. Whether on the road or mountain bike, speed and grip advantages are very noticeable. The complex compound technology is so sensitive that tyres with BlackChili compound can only be produced exclusively in our German Korbach factory.

Airtight The new processing techniques have succeeded in complimenting our existing puncture protection system to result in the new PolyX-Breaker. For the first time we have used polyester as Breaker material and rely on our experience in car tyres, where we have used polyester successfully for many years. The advantage of our new PolyX fabric however lies in the detail. The fibers are often crossed in the manufacturing process. This gives us a dense fabric with a minimum of space between the individual threads. Result: Whether sharp thorns or large shards, PolyX is failsafe and is very resistant to any kind of foreign body without reducing the rolling resistance.

TirePositioningSystem™ The last little bit of what is technically feasible is achieved with the Continental TirePositioning-System. Motorcyclists have already known for ages that a front tyre is subject to different demands than its rear counterpart. The smaller front tyre results in reduced aerodynamic resistance and improved steering. A grip-optimised tread compound provides the necessary traction, particularly for riding through wet corners. The wider rear tyres have more grip and at the same time offer more comfort with their larger contact area. Thanks to a rolling resistance- optimised compound and a larger contact area of the rear tyre, there is less abrasion. The result is a system for front and rear tyres for professional cycling that breaks ground and can be found in our GP Attack and Force combinations.

RaceSport – light, quick, safe. Uncompromisingly designed for use in mountain bike racing: the RaceSport carcasses combine logical light construction and noticeably better protection against flat tyres at the very highest level. Together with professional mountain bikers, we have created the perfect starting basis for competition tyres. Hand produced in Germany, they offer a 30 % better protection against flat tyres than Supersonic tyres. The construction makes the difference – particularly fine and high-grade nylon fabric with an expensive, protective, rubber lining and a universal bead. ProTection – the hard way. Better than ever before, the new Continental ProTection casing. The extra all-round puncture protection layer renders the casings especially durable and insensitive to damage or penetration from foreign elements. Treads and sidewalls are equally protected, and are 25 % lighter and offer 30 % more puncture protection than their predecessors protected by DuraSkin. Rolling resistance and absorption has also significantly improved. The new Made in Germany technology allows it to withstand even the hardest trails across the world. What’s more: they’re universally usable, are inspired by BlackChili Compound and have an aesthetically pleasing sidewall design. The innovation in puncture protection. Vectran™ is a multifibred thermoplastic yarn, made of melted Vectra™ Liquid Crystal Polymer. Vectran™ is the only LCP fibre in the world, which is made using a spinning process. Reinforcing and matrix fibres made of Vectran™, are lightweight, extremely durable, have reliable longevity and are five times stronger as steel. With a layer (breaker) of Vectran™ under the tread, the tyre is protected from breakdowns more efficiently than with a Nylon Double Breaker. This is because a single Vectran™ layer is lighter, more flexible and stronger than the two nylon layers.

DuraSkin Tyres with DuraSkin sidewall protection have to roll with the punches. These tyres are used in the harshest conditions. On messenger bikes, the tyres skid along curbs, on travel bikes, they cross continents without wearing through and in professional cycling they have to endure tough tests such as Paris-Roubaix. The high-quality polyamide fabric reliably protects the casing of the tyre and protects the tyre from the worst conditions. These tyres stand out with their brown sidewalls.

PlusBreaker Puncture protection from highly elastic specialty rubber is used between the tread and the carcass. Nearly impenetrable, this puncture protection fends off all types of foreign objects. Even tacks cannot get through. The carcass is effectively protected from damage. Tyres with PlusBreaker can now be found in almost every segment: Be it racing bikes, cyclocross or city/trekking bikes, PlusBreaker guarantees maximum safety, without negatively impacting the riding properties of the tyre. The consistency of the breaker was adjusted so that the tyres do not feel wobbly when taking curves. PlusBreaker is puncture protection through and through. Note: please check the recommended tyre pressure weekly using a manometer. Plus tyres are built very rigidly, making it hard to feel tyre pressure. Tyres used with too little tyre pressure have higher rolling resistance and also wear faster.

Continental SafetySystem â&#x20AC;&#x201C; the system of Puncture Protection. The SafetySystem Puncture Protection is made of a strong and tight Nylon fabric. This fabric is additionally reinforced with Kevlar. The result is a tyre construction that is highly resistant against pinches and cuts. The SafetySystem protects the tyre against debris, thorns and broken glass. The SafetySystem keeps the tyre lightweight and flexible. It adapts to the rolling motion and keeps the rolling resistance low. The SafetySystem is built in between the tread and the casing. Here it protects the casing fabric and contributes to a long lifespan of the tyre.

Information on tyre pressures. A tyres air pressure has a great influence on the behaviour of the ride experience, the durability (wear) and the rolling resistance (speed). Only the proper operating pressure will render the tyre able to perform to its optimal performance level. Apart from the tyre volume and cyclist dependant load, the purpose of application plays an important role. Wide tyres need less pressure than small tyres, heavy cyclists have to inflate higher pressures than lighter cyclists. For off road: less is more. On the road: more is usually more!. If tyre pressure is too low, then the wear rate of the tyre can increase. Low pressure can also cause instability issues possibly leading to ageing cracks in the tread and lower puncture resistance. Ageing cracks may occur if the pressure is too high, which may also cause insufficient grip and handling. All bicycle tyre systems continuously lose pressure. Check your tyre pressure at regular intervals. Touring bikes and mountain bike riders should check the air pressure at least once a month, racing cyclist once per week. When using light and supersonic tubes, the air pressure must be checked before each ride. Each Continental tyre has the maximum permissible tyre pressure imprinted on its sidewall. For cycling on firm ground: Even heavy cyclists should not surpass this, but may find it helpful to ride at the maximum stated pressure. Lighter cyclists are normally well advised to apply two-thirds of the maximum pressure. Average weight cyclists should ride with approximately 80 % of the permissible maximum pressure, to be on the safe side.

Note on weight. Building light tyres is a stated goal of our developers and employees in production. Occasionally however, there may be some slight variance from the weight stated in the catalogue. This variance results from the tolerances in the width of the tread and fabric rubber lining that cannot be avoided in the manufacturing process of production. The weight listed in the catalogue is based on target weights that were established from previous series and are checked again and again during ongoing production. Deviations of up to 10 % from the target weights thus are possible depending on the model.
