Dr. Bogdan Tofan currently serves as Bene Merenti associated professor for the Synthesis of Architectural Design Department at the “Ion Mincu” University of Architecture and Urbanism. He was awarded a Ph.D degree in 1999 after completing his dissertation: “Architecture and the development of human personality”. He is researcer and international expert consultant in research programs. He served as a visiting professor to the Unviersity of Florida’s Architecture School in Vicenza, Italy during the 2008-2009 academic year. His academic career numbers projects and collaborations in Aalborg Denmark, Berlin, Regensburg (Germany), Zurich (Switzerland), Tefen (Israel), Scottsdale, Arizona and Harding University Ohio (USA), London (United Kingdom), Marly le Roi (France) and Rome (Italy). As a practicing architect since 1990, and founder of Tofan Arkitect, an architecture office, Mr. Tofan has completed works for prestigious clients such as: the Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee, the Romanian Ministry of Finance, the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Romanian Government’s Department for European Affairs, the Romanian Parliament – the Official Journal of Romania, the World Bank, Citibank, Unicredit Bank, S.O.S. Kinderdorf International, the Republic of Austria’s Embassy in Romania, Tiriac Holding, Buftea Town Hall, Hope City, and many more. Mr. Tofan started his professional career as part of Prof. Zoltan Tackacs’s architecture practice, in 1986, where he worked under the guidance of architects and professors as Mihai Cocheci, Emil Barbu Popescu, Viorel Simion, Romeo Belea and Tudor Dumitrascu. As inspiration, Mr. Tofan cites architects Tadao Ando, Shin Takamatsu, Renzo Piano, Norman Foster, Jean Nouvel si Dominique Perault. Mr. Tofan is a founding member and was on the board of the Romanian Order of Architects and, he is also a member of the Romanian Architects’ Union. Mr. Tofan also serves as a Consultant to the European Commission as a member of the European Network of Competent Authorities for the Architectural profession (E.N.A.C.A.) and of the Internal Market Information (I.M.I) System. Between 2011 and 2015, Mr. Tofan was named the Romanian Architects’ Union’s Architecture Commissioner for La Biennale di architettura di Venezia. He is studiing the importance of light in architectural design and promotes the cultural and the inter-disciplinary character of the architecture in our days .
