GET INSPIRED BYEVENTS AND EXHIBITIONS OF THE ARTS INGLASGOW THIS SUMMER
The summer is here, the sun is shining (mostly) and Scotland's art students are all working on their Summer Projects (or at least they should be!) If you are living in the Glasgow area and looking for some inspiration or not sure where to start with your art project, don't worry, because there are tons of art eventsgoing on in theScottish citythis summer. From street art events, to artists sculptures and installation there is something for everyone. Even getting out and about and visiting one of the many Glasgow art stores can provide that much needed inspiration to fuel your creativity, and your Summer Project will be kickstarted in no time. Here's a list of things to get you going... GLASGOW STREET ART 2015 Just have a wander through the streets of the city and see what wonderful things you can see. Street art is big in Glasgow, and there are several colourful murals to
be spotted on your travels. Try wandering near Ingram Street Park, Kelvinbridge Station and Tennents Brewery to name a few and check out the artwork on the walls.
THOMAS TEURLAI - SNUG AS A THUG IN A RUG ART EXHIBITION The Pipe Factory, 9-12 July Glasgow Sculpture Studios is hosting Snug as a thug in a rug, an art exhibition of new work by Thomas Teurlai. He has produced this work during his three month artist exchange at Glasgow Sculpture Studios and the result will be unveiled offsite at The Pipe Factory on 42 Bain Street. RIEL NOIR: IPHONE PHOTOGRAPHY EVENT Sky Park, 1-23 July Photographer, artist and Glasgow School of Art Graduate Riel Noir has a unique photography exhibition on this summer. It features 24 framed fine art giclĂŠe prints, all taken or edited on an iPhone and printed onto textiles. Riel Noir herself says, "My exhibition is a response to the advances in technology that iPhone and smartphone cameras have undergone. There's a range of camera apps and picture editing software available to everyone. Smartphone photography is so exciting, because it is the new frontier in photography with affordable apps that allow everyone to explore their creative side."
RIVERSIDE MUSEUM SUMMER BEACH- OUTSIDE ART EVENT Riverside Museum, 26 June - 1st September Who'd have thought you could go to the beach when in Glasgow? The Riverside Museum has created a Summer Beach just outside the building, so you'll find children, families and friends frolicking in the sand this summer. Go and feel the sand beneath your toes, build a sandcastle and laze about in the sun - you might be surprised by the inspiration that hits if you enjoy a little summer joy! Admission is free and the beach is open during the Riverside Museum opening hours.
BALLET OF THE PALETTE ART EXHIBITION GOMA, Now until 24 January 2016 If painting is your thing then theballet of the palette art exhibitionis an absolute must-see. Artists from last year’s Picture Show have put together an exhibition of paintings selected from the Glasgow collections, and the paintings are varied and ultimately accessible. Whether you're a university student studying at art school, or you want to inspire your little ones about paint, this is a super exhibition with a range of work that lets you discover what it is you look for in a painting.
