stage : Cheesemaking Factory in Bugesera, Rwanda characters : students, factory workers, tourist plot : Rwanda is a country in Africa with an abundant amount of natural resources and an equally abundant supply of people willing to work. Unfortunately it doesn’t have the necessary infrastructure and training grounds to educate the population. What if you could create a place that actively educated by allowing the students to participate in the production of a product related to their field of study?

observation walls At the moment when two different spaces for two separate type of users intersects, the CMU wall dematerializes to reveal the stages of the opposing sides. Developed a Grasshopper Script that would rotate the CMU pattern to allow visual and auditory connections through the material.

didactic forest
stage : montessori school in Alexandria, VA characters : elementary students, instructors plot : What if the same excitement for recess could be seen in a classroom, how could the organization of the classroom environment foster the same curiosity and active participation a playground encourages? The interior column structure and topography of the classroom provides a setting that playfully explodes the traditional classroom into a field of didactive niches for children to either perform solitary or group activities The areas with shallow floor topography and open field of columns are designed to encourage group learning. the areas with denser columns are meant to encorage solitary activities.

Alley Intension
ACSA-AISC National Student Design Competition Honorable Mention Oretola Thomas + Vicky Arias
stage : 15 foot wide alley in Washington DC characters : scholars of the U-Street corridor plot : Due to the limited amount of void space in a dense city, this library was born from the residual back alley space left over between a jazz club and dollar pizza joint. With space at a premium, this library promotes the exchange of knowledge through the use of senses rather than bulky physical mediums. This alley library provides platforms that playfully float in tension above streets to mediate communication of knowledge through sensory experiences that expand beyond printed books.
