ERRORS + THE TWILIGHT SAD Fri 1 Oct, 8pm £12
Errors. Formed in 2004 the band quickly set about making a name for themselves in their hometown with their unique take on dance music. The band were soon taken under the wing of Mogwai who signed them to their Rock Action label alongside the likes of Part Chimp and James Orr Complex. To date they have released a series of 7” singles, EPs and their debut album It’s Not Something But It Is Like Whatever and live dates with bands as varied as Underworld, Franz Ferdinand, Explosions In The Sky, Gary Numan and Mogwai. Their sound has been described as angular, spiraling guitars, underpinned by truly mesmerising beats combined with euphoric synths and pop hooks. www.myspace.com/weareerrors
The Twilight Sad. Forming in 2003, the band’s early shows saw them creating half-hour pieces of music with tape loops and toy instruments. These sonic adventures gradually evolved into the emotive, eloquent song that we see from The Twilight Sad now. The band are as influenced by their immediate geography (‘the sticks just outside Glasgow’), as they are any particular musical reference points. Their sound is liable to evoke a familiar indie canon, from white-noise era Creation Records, to fellow Scots Arab Strap or Mogwai, but they are unmistakably their own band. Deceptively simple songs are rendered transcendent. Bleached, overdriven guitars consistently ride a line between ambient and coruscating, working in tandem with an articulate, tumultuous rhythm section, portraying an awestruck, ragged sentimentality. www.myspace.com/thetwilightsad

NEW ROPE STRING BAND
BILL WELLS’ BLACK CHRISTMAS
The New Rope Stringband have been wowing the crowds at big outdoor events across the land, creating more mirth than is natural and leaving many aching sides and cheekbones in their wake including all age groups.
TOLBOOTH EXCLUSIVE
In a review of the band’s knock-em-dead performance at this year’s Shetland Festival, Maverick magazine said: “They were one of the outstanding highlights. The show is stuffed full of sheer whoopee, inventiveness and endless crowd-pleasing moments.
Putting together an array of pop glitter Bill Wells’ evening of festive musical fun follows on from King Creosote’s plunder fest of Christmas goodies last year and Davy Scott’s the year before.
Thu 16 Dec, 8pm | £12/£10
“They are nutty as fruit cake, Buster Keatonesqe even, and while the routines - cleverly constructed free-standing segments - are hilarious, the musicianship and use of various stage props is massively entertaining. It’s the kind of show you hope you might encounter at Edinburgh Fringe but rarely do.”
Fri 17 Dec, 8pm | £14/£12
Bill Wells has put together a very special night to celebrate the Tolbooth’s third adventure into a Christmas Pop wonderland.
As well as Bill’s off-kilter take on Christmas classics with the National Jazz Trio of Scotland, there will be a whole host of guests bringing their own take on the season of dark merriment. Full line up to be announced on our website, www.stirling.gov.uk/tolbooth

Fond Thoughts We would like to send very fond wishes and thanks to an exceptional and inspirational colleague who has left Stirling Council after over 30 years.
Pat Godley began as an Art Teacher for what was Central Region Council before moving to work within the Education Department of Stirling Council. Pat has been a precursor to and fundamental in the growing collaborations between Education and Cultural Services and Stirling’s cultural venues which has, over the past 10 years, seen many exciting opportunities developed together for children attending Stirling Council schools. Pat has an exciting future ahead concentrating on her own work as a painter. We will miss her.

TOLBOOTH NEW MUSIC STAGE
The Tolbooth has been busy this Summer taking music to the masses outside the venue via the Tolbooth New Music Stage. The stage gives local musicians the chance to showcase their talents and has popped up at events such as Scribbler’s Picnic back in June, a BBQ at the Raploch Campus with Forth Valley College and lastly at mFest in the grounds of Stirling Uni where 12 bands played over 2 days. Not only were local bands playing but the Tolbooth’s New Music Stage is also organised by young people, so a big well done to everyone involved at each event.

Raydale Dower 9 October – 4 December Preview 8 October, 7-9pm
Raydale Dower has at different times made artwork combining sculpture, video, sound and performance. For his solo exhibition at The Changing Room, Dower will present new sound and sculptural composition. Traditional references to classical instruments will be counter balanced by absurd and anarchic attempts to play or critique them. Dower is interested in exploring chance and logic systems within electronic and concrete composition - this work will be located somewhere between the two art forms. A self - published musician Dower was a founding member of the band Uncle John & Whitelock and now plays in the instrumental Tut Vu Vu. Dower often collaborates to realise projects, most recently Le Drapeau Noir, a temporary artist café, installation and programme of events referencing Dada performance, underground culture, avant garde and experimental music. He is currently working on the first issue of Vexiollogy a publication documenting the installation and performance programme at Le Drapeau Noir. This exhibition has been realised with support from the Artist Residence programme at Trongate 103.
