Here we go... into what we hope will be a lovely long summer. There's a real buzz around at the moment and in between the Commonwealth Games and the Ryder Cup, we hope you can fit in some of our gigs or workshops. We have our summer ceilidhs along with performances from NYJOS and great trad gigs from Jamie Smith's Mabon, with support from the Fèis Fhoirt Ceilidh Band as well as the powerful force that is Blazin' Fiddles, with their new line-up. Into September, there is so much happening, with our library colleagues' events Wha's Like Us and Off the Page, not to mention Bloody Scotland and the Stirling Fringe.
To complement all this we have gigs ranging from rising indie stars Honeyblood to crazy veterans John Otway and Wild Willy Barrett. Also in September don't miss the moving and revealing story of Paul Robeson as well as a special evening in The Albert Halls from the sublime Julie Fowlis, with support from piper Fred Morrison. And good news, as we introduce our new Music Development Officer, Kenny Bates, who has already lined up some great gigs, including a new evening with a focus on songwriting as well as some great summer activities and watch the space for the return of an autumn fest at the end of November to take the place of ReLoaded Fest. As always check or website or facebook for the most up to date announcements and ticket sales. Our next season of classses and workshops will be announced online soon. See you at the Tolbooth soon.

Shang-A-Lang
Shang-A-Lang Thu 25 Sep, 7.30pm The Albert Halls £15/£14/£12 16yrs+ Take a step back in time to the days of the Bay City Rollers, with loud fashions and, laugh out loud, adult humour. Written by Catherine Johnson (writer of the hit musical Mamma Mia!), Shang-a-Lang
follows three flighty forty-something Scottish women on their way to a 70s revival weekend in Butlins, where the Bay City Rollers are playing. They were all Rollerettes back in the day and decide it is time to recapture their youth, chase their unfulfilled dreams and have a ball while they do it.
Lauren tries to stay sober, Jackie tries to stay married and Pauline continues to search for her Woody. Shang-a-Lang is the perfect girls’ night out laced with shocking laughs, warm tears and a fabulous soundtrack - a cross between a Scottish Shirley Valentine and Shameless.

Kenny Bates here... really excited to join the Tolbooth as Music Development Officer. My background is in event management and community arts tuition, running a little DIY label through in Glasgow, promoting monthly events and squeezing in as much writing, recording and performing as I can in between.
