Well received albums ‘The White Feather Trail’ and ‘Darling Darkness’ have brought him national and international airplay, and seen him share stages with the likes of The National, Kristin Hersh, Feist, Frightened Rabbit, Guillemots, Rilo Kiley, Joan As Police Woman and Tom Vek and many more. 8

Sam Baker Trio
Thu 13 Nov, 8pm £15 Sam Baker is one of the finest of the modern-day veteran Texas troubadours. An evening listening to Sam’s gritty vocals and deep lyrics brings out so many emotions in his audience: sadness, joy, laughter, love, anticipation. These emotions reflect the journey he has been on after surviving a terrorist bomb blast while travelling in Peru. His injuries were extensive, and led to a long and painful recovery. Despite suffering lasting hearing difficulties and having to adapt to playing his guitar left handed, he is successfully rebuilding his life through music, poetry
and art, and his heartfelt lyrics connect with his audience in a truly unique way. Baker’s pen is precise, cunning and original, often weaving humour with human suffering and tender beauty. Sam’s first album, ‘Mercy’ was released in 2004, and was the first in a trilogy of compelling albums with sparse instrumentation and poetic delivery, followed by ‘Pretty World’ in 2007 and ‘Cotton’ in 2009. His fourth and latest album ’Say Grace’, was voted by ‘Rolling Stone Magazine’ as the fifth best country album of 2013. On this tour Sam is accompanied by Austin’s Carrie Elkin. Carrie’s
powerful backing vocals perfectly complement Sam’s gravelly vocals, and the trio is completed with the fantastic Chip Nolan on keyboard. Sam's thoughts on his latest release 'To say grace means to say thank you. It means to be grateful for what is before me - for what I have. It means to not be bitter about what I don't have and really, to not be bitter about things I lost.'

The Poozies
Fri 14 Nov, 8pm £13/£11 The Poozies are Sally Barker, Mary Macmaster, Eilidh Shaw and Mairearad Green, individually sparkling musicians and collectively a fragrant mix of invention, creative interpretation and melodic mastery. This combination has made them consistently turn heads since the 1990s. The passion of Sally Barker’s unique voice is reinforced by the percussive power of her rock solid guitar; irresistible energy bursts from Eilidh 10
Shaw’s fiddle and Mairearad Green’s delicately dexterous accordion; all dramatically grounded by the growling groove of Mary Macmaster’s Camac electro harp; and magnificently rounded off by the blending of four voices in heart-wrenching harmony. All four are masters of arranging whether it be an original composition, a traditional melody or spinetingling songs, which are
drawn not only from the rich vein of traditional Scottish Gaelic culture but also from any enticing genre from home and further afield, including contemporary and Americana. And you may recognise Sally's name from earlier this year - the voice that made Sir Tom Jones cry on prime time Saturday night television!

Julia Fordham: Porcelain 25
Tue 18 Nov, 8pm £20 English songbird Julia Fordham’s remarkable singing and compositions make her a unique voice in more ways than one. Her first release in 1988 'Happy Ever After' was an international hit, and Fordham's smoky jazz bar low, dulcet voice, the warmth of her delivery and emotive compositions led to major success, with millions of her records selling around the world. Following two sell-out UK tours in 2013, Julia Fordham returns from her US base, to celebrate the 25th anniversary of her landmark album 'Porcelain.'
Julia will be performing the album in its entirety, including the two hits from the album 'Manhattan Skyline' and 'Lock and Key', accompanied by her long-time pianist and album producer Grant Mitchell. 'To this day, people still stop me in the street and sing songs from 'Porcelain' to me. They share stories about how much the album
connected with them. So it's an honour to perform the whole album for the faithful audience that has supported me all these years.' Julia will also perform some of her other hits along with a few surprises along the way. tickets 01786 27 4000

The Bruce 700 We have to mention our major music commission composed by Allan MacDonald – the performance in The Albert Halls on Jun 26th received a standing ovation and great reviews. The ensemble grew in size to over 60 on the stage by the end– and we would like to say a huge thanks to Allan MacDonald and Neil Johnstone and all the performers, with particular mention to Lori Watson and Chris Gibb who led the Tolbooth Trad Group (No More Cages) and the Stirling and District Schools Pipe Band so brilliantly…a memorable evening indeed.
