CLIMATIC CONDITIONS
The moisture content of wood is regulated by the relative humidity (RH) in the room, which is related to the “dry” and “moist” temperature. In the more Southern and Northern hemispheres, the climate is subject to a wide degree of variation from summer to winter. This also has effects indoors, especially in the winter and particularly during a very cold spell, when RH can be as low as 10 - 15 %. In public buildings (offices, etc.) where there are stringent ventilation requirements and where the air is being continually replaced, the relative humidity can be as low as 10 %. All interior woodwork dries to the equivalent humidity of the surrounding air, causing shrinkage and the formation of cracks. It is therefore of great advantage to supply moisture to the air. By doing this, both we and our plants will be much more comfortable. Use a humidifier or simply fill a container with water and place it on a source of heat. Parquet is manufactured with a moisture content of approx. 7.5 %, which accommodates a climate of approx. 40 % RH at 20 °C. It is especially important

that during and shortly after installation, the area is not exposed to a high degree of RH (recommended RH 30 - 60 %). The high moisture content of a building or the addition of moisture will cause the parquet to expand, which, in dry periods, can lead to gaps forming between boards (strips). UNDERFLOOR HEATING
There are various types of underfloor heating on the market, utilising both electricity and water. We are unable to cover individual types, but a common factor for underfloor heating is that the heating effect must not exceed 60 W/m2 and the surface temperature of the sub-floor must not exceed +27 °C. The system must be thermostatically controlled and installed in such a way that it produces an even output over the whole surface. In the case of waterborne heat, we recommend that the water pipes are laid transvers to the direction that the parquet is to be laid. The wood species Beech, Maple and Jatoba should not be used together with underfloor heating, as these are more sensitive to the strain produced by this type of heating.

Please note: It is important that rugs placed on the parquet do not have rubber or other dense materials on the underside, as this isolates the heat under the rug and can damage the parquet. SOUND
Sound is measured in decibel (dB). It is necessary to differentiate between the sound made by footsteps and reverberation. Step sound is the sound perceived (measured) in the room directly under the parquet. Reverberation is the sound in the actual room. Building Authority requirements to curb step sound in a building, consisting of several apartments, is subject to special measures. Good insulation against step sound often results in higher reverberation within the room, because sound is insulated from carrying to underlying rooms. Good acoustics in the actual room are obtained by glueing the parquet to the concrete, on condition that extra sound-proofing is installed
in the ceiling joists below, to counteract the penetration of step sound. In office buildings and the like, the panelled ceiling is often lowered to allow for piping, cabling, etc. and this also acts as insulation against step sound. The construction of the building, configuration, quality and dimensions are important factors and of great importance for good acoustics. Consultants and architects should therefore be consulted. For more information on underlay see page 106.

PARQUET IN PUBLIC PLACES
There are often greater requirements for flooring in the public sector or non-residential buildings than in the private housing sector. Requirements for the floors’ “total qualities” should be defined, so as to enable the correct products and method of installation to be chosen. By this, we do not just mean the appearance of the floor (grading), but the functionality of the floor. A floor should be able to cope with heavy strain, have the flexibility to help find interior solutions and to be workable with respect to future refurbishment, as well as having good acoustic qualities. There are many factors which must be taken into consideration. Installing standard parquet floating, using the same method as is used in the private sector, is not the best solution. Floating floors are the simplest and most reasonable solution for installing parquet, but is often not the optimum choice for non-residential buildings. For example, there are limitations to

the size and configuration of the floor. A floating floor can cause relatively high reverberation and the acoustics in a room, where a great deal of people reside and move around can be a problem. It is also necessary for a floor installed floating, to be able to “float” freely. Should the movement of the floor be restricted due to the installation of walls, counters, heavy furnishings, etc. it is no longer a floating floor and this can lead to sectional splitting of the floor. The inner climate of public buildings is often very dry and can be as low as 10 % RH during the coldest times of the year, due to ventilation requirements. To enable parquet to withstand such strains without splitting means that only high quality products must be used. Solid wood flooring “moves” more than engineered stabilized parquet flooring. Requirements for the inner climate are therefore greater, in respect to solid wood flooring.

Parquet should be glued to the sub-floor to enhance both the stability of the floor and the building’s flexibility, with respect to furnishings, positioning of walls etc. not forgetting acoustic conditions. A parquet floor glued to concrete has especially good reverberation properties. Special attention should be paid to the fact that parquet glued to concrete causes higher step sound penetration in the room below. This is not normally a problem as the floor below usually has a lowered panelled ceiling which greatly helps to insulate step sound. BOEN has products which are suitable for glueing to the subfloor, irrespective of whether the requirements are for stability, designer floors or life expectancy of the floor.

BOEN X-press is installed without the use of adhesive or other means of attachment. Our quality controllers have sorted and graded the parquet. Should there be any doubt concerning grading and/ or visual defects, it is important that claims are made prior to the parquet being installed. Remember that the final result is the responsibility of the installer. Wood is a natural product with natural variations in colour and structure. CLIMATIC CONDITIONS
BOEN parquet is dried to 7.5 % ± 1 % moisture content, which is equal to the moisture content of furniture wood. It is therefore a matter of course that the building is heated and dry. All windows and doors must be in place and all brick-work, rendering and concreting finished well in advance of the parquet being installed. The room must be heated to a minimum of 15 °C and relative
humidity (RH) between 30 and 60 %. Ensure that the room is kept 30 - 60 % at a relative humidity and temperature of 20 °C. The parquet must be stored dry and the packaging must not be opened until the parquet is to be installed. SUB-FLOORING OF CHIPBOARD, PLYWOOD AND FLOOR-BOARDS
The sub-floor must be dry, level and self-supporting. The tolerance limit is ± 3mm per 2 running metres. For the UK: ± 3mm over 3 running metres according to British Standard BS8204. Approved subflooring is 22mm chipboard, 19mm plywood or 21mm floor-boarding. When using the third alternative it is important that the parquet is installed at right angles to the floor-boards. Diagonally installed floor-boards and cleft floor boarding for use with underfloor heating systems must be 28mm thick. The moisture content of the sub-floor must not exceed 12 %. Any irregular sounds

One layer of builders’ paper, or other suitable underlay should be laid between the sub-floor and parquet, to avoid friction sounds. Please note that glue free methods require a firmer underlay than glued down. The density of the underlay should be a minimum of approx. 50 kg/m3. SUB-FLOORING OF REINFORCED CONCRETE OR LIGHT-WEIGHT CONCRETE
Concrete sub-floors must be level and devoid of cement lumps etc. The tolerance limit is ± 3mm per 2 running metres. For the UK: ± 3mm over 3 running metres according to British Standard BS8204. The concrete must be thoroughly dry. There are 2 different methods practiced internationally for measuring the moisture content of concrete: a) The relative humidity (RH) of the concrete should be less than 90 % or 75 % on the surface. b) When using the CM-method the humidity of the concrete should not exceed 2 %. A 0.20mm thick plastic foil must always be laid on the concrete to insulate against any remaining
damp. In addition to this, a layer of builders’ paper or other suitable parquet underlay (2mm polyethylene foam, cork etc.) should be laid between the plastic foil and parquet. More information relating to underlay on page 106. EXISTING FLOOR COVERING
Floor coverings of linoleum, vinyl, plastic etc. do not need to be removed, but a layer of builders’ paper should be laid between them and the parquet. Thin, firm carpet e.g. needle felt is, in itself, a good underlay for parquet, but for reasons of hygiene we recommend that this be removed. All other types of carpet must be removed. Please note: Check that the subfloor is level. UNDERFLOOR HEATING

FINISHING TREATMENT
The surface of BOEN X-press Clic is pre-finished with lacquer or oil. The AS-lacquer (anti microscratches) is UV hardened, extremely scratch resistant and very durable. Lacquering immediately after installation is not recommended, unless due to special circumstances. In which case, please see page 76. Oiled floors require more frequent maintenance than lacquered floors. We recommend our cleaning and maintenance products for the various surfaces. The most efficient method of cleaning the floor is to use a dry mop or vacuum cleaner. If it is deemed necessary to wash the floor, it is important to limit the use of water. Do not allow water to dry on the surface of the parquet. When treating unfinished parquet, use purpose-made products. Please note: Other rules and regulations apply when treating/ maintaining parquet in sporting facilities, office buildings or other public places. For further information, please contact BOEN. LAYING INSTRUCTIONS 14mm BOEN X-press Clic Vacuum the sub-floor prior to installation. Use an approved underlay with the correct density. More information concerning underlay on page 106. 1. Lay the first board with the tongue towards the wall and the groove outwards. There must be a clearance to the wall of at least 8 - 10mm, (1.5mm per meter room width). Using the starting wall as reference, snap chalk line on the sub-floor. Align straight edge (BOEN board or any solid material with straight edge) with chalk line and secure to sub-floor. The first row is laid along this line. 2.-4. The next board is installed at an angle (approx. 30°) against the end-joint and pressed down. By pressing the board down at the end, the tongue will yield and “lock” the boards together. Continue in this way until the first row is installed. 5.-7. The second row starts with the off-cut from the first row, which must be a minimum of 50cm. Ensure that all overlaps are a minimum of 40cm. 8.-11. The next board is laid slanting. Give the board a light
tap with a wooden block while pressing down gently. Work from right to left, knocking lightly. To finish, use solid pressure over the end join, so that the tongue yields and locks the boards together. 12.-14. The last board to be laid into the wall must be at least 50mm. 15.-16. Apertures for piping etc. must be made as spacious as possible so as to allow the free movement of the floor. The apertures are then covered by pipe collars. Place Peel & Stick Floor Protectors on furniture legs to prevent damage to the parquet. Skirting boards should be fastened to the wall. Parquet in corridors must be installed in a longitudinal direction.

1. Lay the first board with groove towards the wall and tongue outwards. There should be a clearance of at least 8 - 10mm along the walls, (1.5mm per metre room width) and simply adjust after 3 - 4 rows of boards have be installed. Use wooden blocks/wedges as distance pieces. 2. It is important to be especially careful when installing the first row. Use a string to check. 3. Start the second row using the off-cut from the previous row, which must be a minimum of 40cm. Check that all overlaps are a minimum of 40cm. 4. When installing a floating floor, the adhesive is applied to the tongue and groove. Place the adhesive on the top edge of the groove (towards the hardwood surface) as near the outer edge as possible. The tongue will spread the adhesive inwards and give a good adhesive surface. The short ends do not need adhesive. 5. Use a tapping tool to knock the boards together, by doing this
the edges will not be damaged. When 3 rows of boards have been installed, check that all joins (also end joins) are tight and even. You can then be sure that the alignment is correct. 6. Apertures for piping etc. must be made as spacious as possible so as to allow the free movement of the floor. The apertures are then covered by pipe collars. 7. When installing the last row against the wall, place the final board exactly over the penultimate board, and the correct width is obtained by using an off-cut as a template against the wall. 8. Parquet in corridors must be installed in a longitudinal direction. 9. Skirting boards should be fastened to the wall.

GLUE-DOWN METHOD GLUE-DOWN METHOD
It is possible to use the glue-down method on most sub-floors: concrete, wood, chipboard, plywood and plaster boards. As always, the sub-floor must be dry, even and self-supporting. The tolerance limit is ± 3mm per 2 running metres. For the UK: ± 3mm over 3 running metres according to British Standard BS8204. The moisture content of a wooden subfloor must not exceed 10 % or 65 % moisture content in a concrete sub-floor. To ensure against damp, a moisture barrier must be embedded into the surface of the concrete and the concrete surface should also be safeguarded with a moisture primer. BOEN can offer Bona R410, moisture primer (2-component) and Bona R848, an elastic singlecomponent and silane-modified adhesive, which is suitable for the majority of sub-floors. These products do not contain water or organic solvents. When using MS Polymer adhesive, certain suppliers accept adhesive with a RH in the concrete of max. 85 %. However, one should be aware of the fact that even a
small amount of adhesive which accidentally gets onto the surface of the parquet can cause poor adhesion for lacquer if and when the floor is re-lacquered at a later stage. When installing parquet onto wood boards or flooring sheets which must be attached to the sub-floor, the parquet must be glued down, either at a 45° angle or diagonally to the underlay but never parallel with the longitudinal direction. When using water based adhesive (dispersion adhesive), the floor must not walked on before the adhesive has hardened (approx. 24 hours). Therefore, during installation, it is necessary stand on the sub-floor and not on the parquet. Priming of the sub-floor should always be carried out to bind dust. Please note: Water based (dispersion)adhesive should not be used when installing solid wood flooring. Please note: When using the gluedown method, it is important to

A course toothed putty knife is used to spread the adhesive. When installing the parquet, do not spread out more adhesive, than can be used within the space of 15 - 20 minutes.
It is a great advantage especially in public buildings, that the parquet does not hinder the mounting of heavy furnishings, counters, walls etc. Just as important, are the very good audio properties achieved with this form of installation. Reverberation is considerably improved, compared with a floating floor. Reverberation will not cause any interference to the surrounding, where premises are exposed to a lot of traffic.
There are several types of machines on the market, for spreading adhesive, either directly on to the sub-floor or on the reverse side of the parquet. The use of machinery for spreading adhesive yields a higher grade of quality assurance, than is obtained by manual means. It also makes the job easier. Machines can be loaned from machine stockists. Some adhesive stockists will lend machines along with the purchase of adhesive. In addition, the general instructions prevail for parquet floors. Flooring glued to the sub-floor is very stable and can withstand a lot of strain. Walls, heavy furnishings etc. can be placed on the parquet without the danger of the floor cracking which can be the case,

LAYING INSTRUCTION GLUE-DOWN BOEN X-press Check the sub-flooring and the climate conditions (see general instructions on page 7). Sweep or vacuum the sub-floor thoroughly before commencing installation. Use an approved underlay with the correct density. For more information on underlay, see page 106. 1. Lay the first board with the tongue towards the wall and the groove facing outwards. BOEN recommends a clearance to the wall of min. 8-10mm (1.5mm per meter room width). Using the starting wall as reference, snap a chalk line on sub-floor. Align straight edge (BOEN board or any solid material with straight edge) with chalk line and secure to sub-floor. Start with the tongue side facing wall and the long groove side directly up against straight edge. 2.-4. Spread adhesive enough to cover one board width. Use only as much adhesive as can be used during manufacturer’s “open time” for the adhesive. Lay board onto the adhesive. The next board is installed at an angle (approx. 30°) against the end-joint and pressed down. By pressing the board down at the end, the tongue will yield and “lock” the boards together. Continue in this way until the first row is installed.
5.-7. Start the second row with the off-cut from the first row, which must be a minimum length of 50cm. Click this board to the previous row. Ensure that all overlaps are a minimum of 40cm. 8.-11. Give the board a light tap with a wooden block while pressing down gently. Work from right to left, tapping gently. Finish with a harder tap over the end join, so that the tongue yields and locks the boards together. 12.-14. The last row of boards, against the wall, must be a minimum of 50mm. 15.-16. Apertures for piping etc. must be made as spacious as possible so as to allow for free movement of the floor. The apertures are then covered by pipe collars. Place Peel & Stick Floor Protectors on furniture legs to prevent damage to the parquet. Skirting boards should be fastened to the wall. Parquet in corridors must be installed in a longitudinal direction.

especially in new buildings. If, for some reason this is not the case, then it is important that the parquet is protected with a covering, until the work is completed, e.g. BOEN protective cardboard. SCOPES OF DESIGN
There are numerous design options open to you when using Prestige and Traffic strips e.g. squares, herringbone pattern, single, double or triple strips, brickbond pattern, classic longstrip pattern installed diagonally or parallel to the wall. Due to the large variety of wood types and designs that can be mixed together, it is important to plan carefully. As the Prestige strip is of similar height to other types of floor covering e.g. ceramic tiles/ textile flooring, it makes it simple to butt edges together. Maxi is mainly installed in a single strip pattern and has a format which is specially suitable in larger lounges and spacious premises.
GENERAL INFORMATION
Our experts have sorted and graded the parquet. Should there be any doubt concerning grading and/or visual faults, it is important that claims be made before the parquet is installed. Remember that the final result is the responsibility of the installer. Wood is a natural product with natural variations in colour and structure. CLIMATIC CONDITIONS
The multi-layer hardwood flooring strips are packed in PE film in a cardboard box and must be treated with care in order to avoid damage. It is imperative to protect the cartons from moisture during transportation and storage. The cartons must be stacked horizontally. Recommended storage temperature: 18째C. Parquet is a natural product which attracts moisture and in a room with high RH, it can absorb the moisture, which causes the wood to expand.

LAYING INSTRUCTION PRESTIGE, MAXI and TRAFFIC During the 72 hours prior to and after installation of the parquet, the RH in the room must not exceed 65 % and the room temperature must not fall below 18 °C. The floor surface should be a minimum of 15 °C. The strips should be stored in the room in which they are to be installed for at least 48 hours before the packaging is opened. SUB-FLOOR REQUIREMENTS
10mm/ 11.5mm multi-layer hardwood flooring can be glued to any professionally installed sub-floor. This includes concrete and screed, as well as chipboard or plywood boards. The sub-floor must meet the normal requirements for the installation of any hardwood flooring, i.e. dry, level, even, selfsupporting and clean. After any necessary improvements have been made to the sub-floor the hardwood flooring is ready for installation in accordance with the appropriate standards and technical specifications. Special care must be given to the evenness of the sub-floor so as to avoid air pockets as short-strip hardwood flooring cannot compensate for any fluctuation in the sub-floor. For open pores in concrete subfloor and other imperfections we recommend using a suitable
levelling compound, specially designed for use with hardwood flooring. These products must be used in accordance with the manufacturers’ instructions. Please note: All existing plastic and textile floor coverings must be removed. MAXIMUM DEGREE OF HUMIDITY
Concrete floor max. 2.0 % (1.8 % on underfloor heating systems) Anhydrite screed max. 0.5 % (0.3 % on underfloor heating systems) UNDERFLOOR HEATING
With a thermal resistance of only 0.07 W/m2, the 10mm 1-strip, multi-layer hardwood flooring is suitable for glueing to a sub-floor which incorporates an under-floor heating system. The heating effect must not exceed 60W/m². The surface temperature of the hardwood flooring must not exceed 27 °C. The system must be thermostatically controlled and installed in such a way that it produces an even output over the whole surface. The wood species Beech, Maple and Jatoba should not be used together with underfloor heating, as these are more sensitive to the strain produced by this type of heating.
LAYING INSTRUCTION PRESTIGE, MAXI and TRAFFIC Please note: It is important that rugs placed on the parquet do not have rubber or other dense materials on the underside, as this isolates the heat under the rug and can damage the parquet. CARE & MAINTENANCE
The surface of the hardwood flooring is pre-finished at the factory using either lacquer or oil. The anti-scratch lacquer Protect-Ultra is UV hardened, extremely scratch-resistant and very durable. Oiled floors require more frequent maintenance than lacquered floors. Lacquering immediately after installation is not recommended unless due to special circumstances. In which case, see page 76. We recommend our special cleaning and maintenance products for the various types of floor surfaces. The most efficient method of cleaning the floor is using a dry mop or vacuum cleaner. If it is necessary to wash the floor use a moist mop and do not allow water to dry on the surface of the floor. When treating unfinished parquet, use purpose-made products.
GLUeING
The 10mm/ 11.5mm 1-strip, multilayer hardwood flooring must always be glued directly to the sub-floor. The tongue and groove must NOT be glued. The choice of adhesive is dependent on the type of sub-floor and conditions associated with the building’s construction. Only adhesive that is specifically recommended for engineered hardwood flooring should be used i.e. adhesive containing the minimum amount of water BOEN recommend Bona R410 moisture primer to safeguard against moisture in the concrete and Bona R848, an elastic single-component and silane-modified adhesive which is sutiable for the majority of sub-floors. The adhesive should be applied in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions. The adhesive is applied using a course toothed spatula. Do not apply more adhesive than can be “worked” in the course of 10 - 15 minutes.

The laying out of the hardwood flooring must be carefully considered before beginning the installation process. This will depend on the type of pattern chosen. When choosing the long-strip, brickbond in a regular or irregular pattern; it is an advantage to install the strips lengthwise to the main source of light, so as to take into account the angle of incidence. When other patterns are chosen, installation should begin at the centre of the room which is determined by laying out guide strings from opposite walls. It is essential that an expansion gap of 8 - 10mm is left between the edge of the floor and all walls and projectiles.
The apertures are then covered by pipe collars and/or filled with elastic silicon based sealant. To avoid “curving� in larger rooms, it is advisable to use a template during installation. To avoid so-called, bow tension, i.e. gaps forming between strips in large rooms, a staggered installation is recommended. To obtain a good final result it is very important to be precise in the installation of the first rows of strips. The strips are always placed in the adhesive in front of the previous row and pushed and rotated into place along the side and end of each strip.

Using a straight edged timber, draw a guideline for installation, which is an equivalent width of 4 - 6 strips, plus an expansion gap of 8 - 10mm.
Further installation should only continue after the adhesive under this area of the floor has adhered sufficiently (refer to the adhesive manufacturers’ instructions).
Begin installation against the wall, with the tongue facing towards the wall. Place distance wedges along the wall, to ensure an expansion gap of 8 - 10mm between the wall and the first row of hardwood flooring. Once the area between the wall and the guideline has been completed the distance wedges should be removed.
When installing a patterned floor it is important that rows of either left or right hand strip are completed before commencing on the next row. (This applies only to strip patterns.)

For this type of pattern; installation must begin in the centre of the room. Firstly locate the diagonal centre of the room and screw, nail or glue a guide board along this line. Commence installation along this board with the tongue facing the guide board. Remember to allow for an expansion gap of 8 - 10mm between the hardwood flooring and walls. Once the first half of the floor is complete, remove the guideboard,
first checking that the adhesive is sufficiently set (refer to the adhesive manufacturer’s instructions). Commence installation of the remaining half of the floor. Please note: To ensure a uniform appearance when laying either a straight or diagonal floor it is advisable that after the first 4 - 6 rows are in place, that the strips are then installed staggered.

Firstly, stretch a guide string along the room’s centre line. Starting at the nearest wall and following the central guide string, begin installing the strips according to the chosen pattern - single, double or triple herringbone. The apex of the herringbone pattern must be exactly in line with the guide string.
Once this area of hardwood flooring has adhered sufficiently to the sub-floor (refer to the adhesive manufacturer’s instructions), it can be used as a template for the remainder of the floor. Remember to allow an expansion gap of 8 - 10mm between the hardwood flooring and the walls. Please note: Check the guide string regularly during installation.

It is important to ensure that the overall visual affect is esthetic. If the room is relatively small then begin installation at the centre point of the wall. If the room is large, begin in the centre. Remember to allow an 8 - 10mm expansion gap along all walls. When starting along the wall, fix a 90° angle template to the sub-floor at the centre point of the wall. When installation begins in the centre of the room, start by finding the centre point of the room and fix a template to the floor at this point, parallel to the wall. Each square is made up of 7 strips.
Start installing the strips in the corner of the template, completing 1 square at a time. The second square is installed at right angles to the first square. Install approx. 1 m² and allow hardwood flooring to adhere to the sub-floor (refer to the adhesive manufacturer’s instructions), before removing the perpendicular board. Continue installation from the centre point but in the opposite direction, working in a staggered pattern outwards towards the walls. Please note: Check the guide string regularly during installation.

Solid Wood Plank is pre-treated with natural oil (oxidizing oil). Maintenance is carried out using BOEN Natural oil or an equivalent oil (oxidizing oil). We recommend the application of a single coat of maintenance oil after installation of the floor, before it is exposed to traffic.

Solid wood plank must NOT be glued in the tongue and groove to make a “floating floor”. It must be attached to the sub-floor by means of adhesive, nails or screws. When using nails/screws the plank must be pre-drilled to avoid the tongue from splitting.

With a sub-floor of wooden planks or wood sheeting, a layer of builders’ paper must first be laid before nailing or screwing to the sub-floor. Use the same dimension of nail and screw as stated in the above mentioned paragraph concerning Joists/Supports. The plank is installed with clearance to all walls and fixed projections of min. 3mm per metre room width. INSTALLATION ON CONCRETE
INSTALLED DIRECTLY ON JOISTS/SUPPORTS
20mm solid wood plank can also be nailed or screwed to beams and joists, installed at intervals of 60cm for residential purposes. We recommend that a layer of builders’ paper is laid between the joists and solid wood boards to prevent squeaking sounds when the floor is walked on, see page 106. Floors exposed to heavier loads/ traffic, should not have a larger c/c distance than 40cm. Loose battening must have a minimum dimension of 36x68mm, and fixed battening 36x48mm. Use 4.2 x

For the UK: ± 3mm over 3 running metres according to British Standard BS8204. As a main rule, the relative humidity (RH) of the concrete must be less than 65 %; but, by utilising a so called MS-Polymer adhesive, a RH in the concrete of max. 85 % is normally accepted. Check with the adhesive manufacturer and follow their instructions. Ordinary dispersion adhesive (water-borne) must not be used. It can be necessary to use a primer. Remember to allow clearance to all walls and fixed projections of min. 3mm per metre room width and that adhesive should not be used in the tongue/groove connection.
It is compulsory to lay a 0.20mm thick plastic foil on the concrete to insulate against any remaining damp, followed by a layer of ELASTILON® Strong. 1

FLOATING INSTALLATION ON ELASTILON®
If a floating floor is required, use ELASTILON® Strong, which is a self-adhesive underlay. The plank adheres to the underlay, in this case the self-adhesive underlay, while the total construction is a floating floor. Concrete sub-floors must be level and devoid of cement lumps etc. The tolerance limit is ± 3mm per 2 running metres. The relative humidity of the concrete must be below 90 % or 75 % on the surface.

1. Before the ELASTILON® Strong is rolled out, cut off approx. 40cm of the actual rubber, in such a way that a flap of the protective plastic remains.

Ensure that the ELASTILON® is laid completely into the wall and in such a way that the flap of sheeting can be folded back. The underlay is laid edge to edge. 3. Lay the first 3 rows of boards on the underlay and fix them in place with wooden wedges along all 3 walls. Pull the flap of protective plastic from under the boards until all 3 rows are firmly attached to the self-adhesive underlay. 4. The next rows are laid in place and the protective plastic is pulled out little by little as each row is fixed in place. If necessary, the ELASTILON® can be aligned and stretched during installation. This contributes to all joins between planks being tightly closed. SOLID PLANK INSTALLED ON UNDERFLOOR HEATING
We do not usually recommend the installation of solid wood flooring together with underfloor heating, because the movement of solid wood is considerable greater than that of a 3-layer construction. If however it is the wish to install solid wood flooring together with underfloor heating, one must expect some gaps to appear between planks, during the heating season. The factory guarantee is
cancelled if installation takes place on underfloor heating. CLIMATIC CONDITIONS
BOEN Solid Plank is dried to 9 % (± 1 %) moisture content. It is therefore a matter of course that the building is heated and dry. All windows and doors must be in place and all brick-work, rendering and concreting completed well in advance of the parquet being installed. The room must be heated to a minimum of 15 °C with relative humidity between 40 and 60 %. Ensure that the room is kept 30-60 % at a relative humidity and temperature of 20 °C. Always store the cartons of parquet in dry conditions and do not open them until they are to be used. Please note: Winters are often cold and the heating season can cause a very dry inner climate and hard conditions for wooden flooring especially solid wood flooring. Solid wood flooring shrinks more than multi-layer hardwood flooring and with a dry inner climate it is normal that gaps can appear between the boards. To avoid the formation of gaps, it is necessary to incorporate moisture so that the RH is maintained between 40 - 60 %.

Our quality controllers have graded and sorted the parquet. Any questions or claims regarding grading or visible defects must be made prior to installation of the parquet. Remember, it is the installer of the floor who is responsible for the final result. CLIMATIC CONDITIONS
BOEN parquet is dried to 7.5 Âą 1 % moisture content, equal to the moisture content of furniture wood. It is therefore a precondition of installation that the building is heated and dry. All windows and doors must be installed; all masonry work, pouring of concrete and plastering must be completed well in advance of the parquet being installed. The room must be heated and the relative humidity must be between 30 and 60 %. Temperature control must be maintained after the floor is installed and relative humidity remains between 30 and 60 %.

Joining joists in a room directly over underlying walls, must be carried out very carefully, so that deflection of the joists in the one area does not affect the parquet in another area. This is done by trimming off from the middle of the wall and out to the edge. An alternative is to nail the joists together forming a totally ridged join.

If the floor is to be exposed to excessive weight, it will be necessary to consider installing strengtheners.

When 23mm parquet is to be installed directly on joists/battens, the insulation and the heating system must be installed as close to the parquet as possible. It must not be possible for air pockets to develop under the parquet. The effect of the heating system

Joists are installed at intervals of approx. 60cm and BOEN’s 23mm parquet is installed directly on the pre-laid joists. Parquet can be randomly joined and independent of the joists, but there must be a minimum overlap of 60cm.
5. Use a nail punch to finish driving the nail in.
1. Put the first board against the wall with the groove towards the wall. There must be a minimum clearance to the wall of 8-10mm (1.5mm per metre room width) Use wooden blocks or wedges as distance pieces, or nail the first row through the top of the parquet along the wall edge. The skirting board will cover the nail holes.
7. Apertures for piping etc. must be made as spacious as possible so as to allow the free movement of the floor. The apertures are then covered by pipe collars.
2. Ensure that the first row is straight. Use a string to check this. 3. Use the off-cut from the first row to begin the second row.
6. When knocking boards together, use a tapping block, to avoid damaging the edges of the parquet.

LAYING INSTRUCTION 23MM STEEL BATTENING
There are building solutions available on the market, which are constructed of steel battening. Self-supporting (23mm engineered hardwood flooring) must be attached to the battening and must not be installed as a floating floor. The parquet must be glued to the steel battens with a so-called “hybrid adhesive”, which is applied as a “continual bead” of adhesive on the battening. Please note: Do not glue in the tongue and groove connection. This type of battening is firmly bolted to the concrete surface. This can cause a degree of uncertainty with respect to safeguarding against damp in the concrete, when the bolts perforate
the plastic damp-coursing. It is therefore vitally important that the concrete is dry (65 % RH), so that it does not emit damp which can damage the parquet. In addition to the mentioned points, the general installation instructions for parquet should be followed. (See instructions for 23mm parquet on page 42). When installing the battening system, follow the manufacturers/ suppliers installation instructions for the actual system in question.
LAYING INSTRUCTION23 MM WOOD BATTENING
With a fixed battening system, where the battening is firmly nailed into the concrete, the plastic damp-coursing will be perforated. It is therefore vitally important that the concrete is dry (65 % RH), so that it does not emit damp which can damage the parquet. Fixed battening should be a minimum of 36 x 48mm. Minimum UK Battening 31 x 45mm Foam Backed Battens. When loose battening is used, the concrete surface can be insulated with plastic damp-course. It is then sufficient that the concrete has a RH below 90 % or 75 % on the surface. Loose battening should have a minimum dimension of 36x68mm. The parquet is nailed or screwed to the battening. Please note: Adhesive must not be used in the tongue and groove connection.

3-layer plank with a thickness of 20mm. Wear-layer of approx. 4.5mm. BOEN CHALET boards come in five widths; 200mm, 250mm, 300mm, 350mm and 395mm and in lengths from 2m up to 4m. A single order will contain several widths and lengths. BOEN CHALETINO has fixed dimensions of 300mm width and 2.75m length. Eight different surface colours are available for the customer. Some of them in both a brushed and a nonbrushed alternative. BOEN CHALET/CHALETINO should always be stored in dry conditions and do not open the packaging until the floor is to be installed. SURFACE TREATMENT
BOEN CHALET/CHALETINO planks are finished using oxidative drying natural oil. Maintenance should be carried out using BOEN Natural

Daily cleaning is best carried out using a dry cleaning method, either with a dry mop, a broom or a vacuum cleaner. If it is necessary to wash the floor, we recommend adding BOEN Floor Soap or other slightly alkaline soap containing fat to the water. Imperatively make sure to damp mop only - never water your parquet flooring. Please, immediately mop with a dry cloth. IMPORTANT THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT INSTALLATION
BOEN CHALET/CHALETINO must NOT be glued in the tongue/groove connection, as a floating floor. This type of floor must be attached to the sub-floor, either by glueing or screwing. The type of glue used must have elastic properties, but must not contain water. The screws should be of galvanised zinc, 4.2mm x 57mm. Loose tongues are included for using at the short-ends and which
must be glued in place. Because the planks are so long and wide it is possible that the angle at the ends needs adjusting during installation. This can be done before the loose tongues are put into place using a sharp hand-held plane.
INSTALLATION ON A WOODEN SUB-FLOOR
It is possible to directly screw or nail the Chalet/Chaletino boards on used hardwood floors or sub-floors. In doing so, the new boards must possibly be installed diagonal, otherwise transverse to the former direction of installation. In order to avoid creaking noises, we recommend adding a permeable film as an intermediate layer. Use 4.2 x 57mm galvanized zinc floor screws. Screw down at a distance of 60cm over the joists. Remember to leave a clearance to all walls and fixed projectiles of 1.5 mm per meter room width. Remember also to glue in the enclosed loose tongues with wood adhesive on the short edges.

INSTALLATION ON CONCRETE
With a concrete sub-floor the planks must be glued to the concrete. The sub-floor must be level, dry and void of cement lumps, etc. Any unevenness must be corrected prior to installing the parquet. The tolerance limit is Âą 3mm per 2 running meters. For the UK: Âą 3mm over 3 running metres according to British Standard BS8204.

The sub-floor must be stable, selfsupporting and level. The maximum permitted deviation is 2mm per 2 meter radius. If the sub-floor does not satisfy these requirements it will be necessary
to make adjustments, either by planning or filling in. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS TO NEW BUILDINGS
2 layers of 0.2mm plastic membrane, which is taped at the joints (overlap 40 - 60cm), must be laid over the sub-floor prior to the installation of Boflex. The plastic membrane gives Boflex extra protection against moisture, but is not a moisture barrier for the concrete/ sub-floor. The relative moisture content of the sub-floor must be below 90 % or 75 % on the surface. Where concrete is concerned it is necessary to measure the moisture at points a minimum of 10cm into the floor. Practical experience has shown that newly laid concrete floors should be dried for a minimum of 8 weeks prior to the installation of Boflex.

Actiflex is an area elastic sports floor where the boards are installed on top of a shock absorption foam. LAYING INSTRUCTION ACTIFLEX Actiflex Area elastic sports floor Check the sub-flooring and the climatic conditions. Vacuum the sub-flooring before commencing installation. 1. It is recommended to lay the parquet lengthwise to the main source of light, so as to take into account the lights’ angle of incidence. The laying of the floor must be carefully considered before beginning the installation process, so as to avoid final boards being too short or narrow against the wall. Measure the room before commencing installation. It is imperative that a 0.20mm thick layer of plastic, taped at the joins, is laid on the concrete sub-flooring. 2. Begin by laying the perimeter strips which are supplied, 15 x 100mm, along the wall, in the direction the parquet is to be laid. 3. Lay the Actiflex underlay 2000 x 1500 x 8mm against the row of supporting boards. The underlay must not be laid less than 100mm from the side walls. 4.-5. Place the first board with the tongue facing the wall and the groove facing outwards. There must be a minimum clearance along the wall of 8 - 10mm (1.5mm per meter room width). The next board is laid at an angle (approx. 30°) against the end join and pressed down. Continue in this way until the first row is laid. 6. Begin the second row with the offcut board from the first row, which must be a minimum of 50cm. 7. Cut support blocks 15 x 100 x 70mm and place them under the Actiflex boards at the ends of each row.
8. The Actiflex mats are gradually laid as the floor is installed. The offcut from the first row is used to start the next row, this ensures that the mats are laid randomly and remain in place. 9.-10. Use a light knock with a tapping block, e.g. 10 x 10cm or similar, against the lower edge of the parquet, while pressing down the row of boards against the underlay, such that the boards slip into place. 11. By pressing the board at the end, the tongue will yield and “lock” the boards together. 12. Continue laying the next row, using the off-cut from the previous row. Ensure that there is a minimum overlap of 40cm between the boards. 13.-14. Apertures for piping etc. must be as spaciously as possible so as to allow for free movement of the floor. The apertures are then covered with pipe-collars. 15. After the flooring is installed it is still important to ensure that the room remains temperate with a relative humidity of between 30 and 60 %. Clean the floor using a dry dust mop or vacuum cleaner. If the floor needs to be washed it is important that the use of water is kept to a minimum. Do not allow water to dry on the surface of the parquet.

1. Starting with the 1st row of parquet laid with the groove side next to the wall. 2. The 1st plank of board has to be cut in the length ensuring that the front face is laid on the centre of the 16th plywood strip and the distance to the wall must be kept. Fixing: alongside the hall the parquet is screwed with a screw (4.2 x 35mm) with each plywood strip. In that way that the screw will be covered with the skirting later on. As described above the parquet is fixed with clips on each plywood strip through the tongue. 3. When starting the 2nd row of parquet the 1st plank is cut in the length ensuring that the front face will be laid on the centre of the 12th plywood strip. The parquet is fixed with clips on each plywood strip.
4. Starting the 3rd row of parquet the 1st plank is cut in the length ensuring that the front face is laid on the centre of the 8th plywood strip. Fixing: like 2nd row. 5. Starting the 4th row of parquet the 1st plank is cut in the length ensuring that the front face is laid on the centre of the 4th plywood strip. Fixing: as described above. 6. The 5th row of parquet is installed like the 1st row however without screwing the parquet.

Practical experience has shown that newly laid concrete floors should be dried for a minimum of 8 weeks prior to the installation of Singleflex. DISTANCE TO WALLS AND COLUMNS
The distance between the floor and walls/projectiles is calculated at 1.5mm per meter width distributed on both sides.
INSTALLATION Rigid support
2 boards of pinewood are screwed together on site; distance of the screws: 500 mm. The boards are screwed together in a displaced way with an overlapping part of 200 mm. The rigid beams are laid
out alongside the hall on both sides with a distance to the wall of 50 mm. Single swing beams
(4000 x 95 x 36 mm). Laying out the single swing beams (distance centre/centre: 500 mm). The first row of the single swing beams is laid out to the direction of the length side of the hall. Distance single swing-beam – rigid beam: 422m spacing centre/ centre. The first rubber pad of the single swing beam which is next to the wall is replaced by a rigid wooden piece as closed to the wall a rigid construction is necessary. The second row of the single swing beams is laid out intermittently displaced of the first row with a distance of 219,45mm (longitudinal direction) = half distance of the rubber pad. Coming to the first side the rubber pad of single swing beam is replaced by a wooden beam as described above. The distance between the single swing beam is spacing centre/ centre 500mm. Then the laying out of the swing beams is continued as mentioned above until the other side of the hall is reached whereas the 3rd

LAYING INSTRUCTION Singleflex Stadium row is laid out in the same way than the 1st row, the 4th row is laid out in the same way of the 2nd row. The single swing beams are screwed together with 2 screws (suitable for wood, 4.2 x 35mm). Equalizing
After having laid out the single swing beams the so-called equalizing of the construction has to be done, by laying specially prepared equalizing material (wool felt strips, wooden blocks) under each rubber pads of the single swing beams. The equalizing material is glued together on both sides in order to avoid a moving away. From a height of 20mm and more the equalizing material is fixed with nails or clips on both sides too in addition to the glue. The boards for the rigid support alongside the hall will also adjust with equalizing material to the height of the swing beams. Counter floor module
The counter floor beams are laid crosswise onto the single swing beams. They are fixed with 2 socalled T-nails (2.2 x 32mm) on each single swing beam. The distance between the single counter-floorbeams is spacing centre/centre 137.5mm. The dis-tance results from: length of BOEN sports
parquet 2200mm: 16 boards of counter floor boards = 137.5mm. The counter-floor beams are intermittently displaced (staggered), too. The measure of displacing is 1000mm. The distance to the wall is 20mm. Polyethylene foil 0,05mm thick
The Polyethylene foil is loosely laid out. An over-lapping of 100mm on the joints has to be consid-ered. BOEN Sports parquet

The parquet is fixed with clips on each 2nd counter floor board. 4. Starting the 3rd row of parquet the 1st plank is cut in the length ensuring that the front face is laid on the centre of the 8th counter floor. Fixing: like 2nd row. 5. Starting the 4th row of parquet the 1st plank is cut in the length ensuring that the front face is laid on the centre of the 4th counter floor. Fixing: as described above.
6. The 5th row of parquet is installed like the 1st row however without screwing the parquet. SKIRTING
The skirting boards should be fastened to the wall only, so as not to impede the movement of the floor. T-mouldings should only be fastened to the existing floor.

PRODUCTS FOR GLUEING DOWN Bona r410 A moisture primer for glueing parquet to a sub-floor PREPARATIONS
The sub-floor must be even, dry, clean and void of cracks and in addition, the surface structure must also be in good physical condition. The sub-floor must adhere to the following standards: ALTERNATIVE Sub-Flooring (also with underfloor heating):
• Screed • Concrete • Calcium Sulfate (anhydride) based floor • Chip board • Bitumen and other floors which are affected by emollient, must be primed with R410 (epoxy) or similar. Primer is not suitable under all conditions, e.g. with abnormal surfaces or work which is beyond the norm. The curing effect should be tested In such instances. APPLICATION
The following climatic conditions must be present, prior to the application of primer: • Air temperature min. 18 °C • Floor temperature min. 15 °C (max. 20 °C with underfloor heating) • RH max. 70 %
The primer must, of course, be temperate. A higher temperature leads to faster curing, a lower temperature leads to a longer curing time. The product and hardener are delivered in the correct proposions: Add component B in its entirety into component A and stir well. It is preferable to use a drill with a stirring attachment. The time frame for utilising the mixtured is 20 min. and it is therefore important that the whole mixture is used within that time frame. The primer should be applied with a roller, brush or applicator. Please note: The implements must be absolutely clean. Contaminates can alter the effect of R410. To safeguard against moisture, the primer must be generously applied as 2 coats, perpendicular to each other. Apply the second coat after 2 - 3 hours, after the first coat is dust-free. Curing time approx. 24 hours. Consumption approx. 500 g/m².
PRODUCTS FOR GLUEING TO THE SUB-FLOOR bona r848 A single-component adhesive for gluing parquet to the sub-floor PREPARATIONS
The sub-floor must be even, dry, clean and void of cracks. In addition, the surface structure must also be in good physical condition. The subfloor must adhere to the following standards: ALTERNATIVE SUB-FLOORING

The adhesive is applied with a coarse toothed adhesive applicator. The parquet must be installed as quickly as possible. Do not apply more adhesive than can
be used in the course of 20 mins. The parquet must be installed as quickly as possible, and no more adhesive must be applied than the amount of parquet that can be installed within 20 min. Any adhesive spillage on the surface must be carefully removed, otherwise there may be a risk of adhesion problems if lacquered. The floor can be charged after 24 to 48 hours. Sanding and lacquering can be done after 2 - 4 days, depending on the type of parquet, absorbency of the substrate and climatic conditions in the room. ADHESIVE APPLICATOR/FILLER SPATULA
Bona 1000: 2-layer finished parquet. Consumption approx. 0.9 ltr./m² (1250 g/m²). Bona 1250: 3-layer finished parquet, solid plank. Use fine adhesive applicator for small elements of wood and/or smooth surfaces, and a coarse adhesive applicator for large elements of wood and/or rough surfaces. SAFETY • Avoid inhalation. If eye contact, rinse immediately with plenty of water, search for medical advice. • If contact with skin, wash immediately with water/soap. • Wear protective gloves.

BOEN Cleaner is a cleaning agent developed for use on parquet, wood and other lacquered surfaces. Lacquered floors should not be washed with soap. Soap contains fat, and would leave a greasy film on the surface, which over time can make the floor look dirty. INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
For daily cleaning use dry cleaning methods, such as a dry mop or vacuum cleaner. Microfibre cloth is also suitable. When washing is needed, you should be aware of the following: Wood and other lacquered flooring can be affected by water, so a well wrung cloth/mop is recommended. Any spillage on the floor should be removed immediately, and before it dries. The surface can withstand the most common household chemicals. Difficult stains can be removed with a stronger mixture
of water/detergent, or gently with white spirit. If white spirit is used, dry afterwards with a damp cloth. USAGE
Normal daily cleaning: 25ml to 5 l water. Badly marked floor: 50ml to 5 l water. TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS

BOEN PARQUET REFRESHER For maintenance of Protect-Ultra lacquered wooden flooring
BOEN Refresher is a product designed for maintenance of lacquered parquet and wood flooring. The product freshens up dull lacquer, protecting it and giving a wear resistant finish. BOEN Refresher meets the requirements for slip resistance according to DIN 18 032:2. INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
The floor must be clean and devoid of polish and wax, prior to treatment. Firstly, wash the floor with BOEN Cleaner. Make sure the floor is completely dry before applying BOEN Refresher. Shake the bottle/jar before use. Apply a thin coat of BOEN Refresher in small sections at a time, with a clean, soft, lint-free cloth, microfiber pad or other polishing cloth. First, apply a coat out across the floor, and finally in longitudinal direction as each section is completed. Keep the room closed as much as possible during application, so that dust etc. does not pollute before the surface
is dust-dry. Once the surface is dust-dry ventilation should be increased to accelerate the curing process. Let the floor dry for at least 2 hours before the floor is charged, or before any application of a second coat. Please note: Rugs should not be in place until after 24 hours and the floor should not be cleaned with water until after 1 week. CLEANING
A floor treated with Refresher is cleaned in the normal way, i.e. with a dry mop or vacuum cleaner. When it is necessary to wash the floor, avoid water spillage and use a well wrung cloth with BOEN Cleaner added to the water. Should other cleaning agents be used they must have a neutral Ph. value. Cleaning agents containing strong alkalis will remove the Refresher.

CARE & MAINTENANCE LACQUER PROFESSIONAL SURFACE TREATMENT PREPARATION METHOD PRIOR TO LACQUERING
Bona Prep For use on factory treated or previously lacquered floors. Bona Prep has been developed specially to optimize adhesion of Bona lacquer to all types of polyurethane based floor lacquers, including lacquer used during production.
PREPARATION
The floor must be absolutely clean. Remove dust/sand etc. by means of a vacuum cleaner or mop. Then wash the floor with BOEN Cleaner. Please note: Floors previously treated with polish or wax must be milled down to the bare wood to remove all traces of polish or wax. INSTRUCTIONS OF USE
1. Smaller areas can be cleaned by hand using a spray bottle. On larger areas Bona Prep can be used in a washing/scouring machine, or another alternative is to apply a thin coat by means of a mop, working on approx. 10m2 at a time. Please note: It is important that Bona Prep is given 2-5 minutes to “work�, before being removed. Do not allow it to dry on the floor.
2. Use a standard polishing/ scouring machine (150-200 revs./min.) with a green pad attached to apply the Bona Prep. The whole surface must be treated. 3. The floor must be cleaned with water, immediately after being scoured. 4. Dry with a cloth attached to the polishing machine. 5. Intermediate sanding of the surface using sandpaper graining 120-150 should be carried out between coats. The period of time between scouring and the intermediate sanding must not exceed 24 hrs. 6. Use a vacuum cleaner to remove all dust and then work over the surface with a mop moistened with Bona Prep.

7. Apply 1-2 coats Bona Traffic or other proper lacquer when the floor is dry. The application of lacquer should take place within 2 hours of the floor being intermediately sanded and cleaned. Always check lacquer adhesion before application. A small area should be treated with Bona Prep and given a test coat of lacquer. After 2-3 days, scratch the surface with a coin. If the lacquer remains in place, there is sufficient adhesion.

BONA TRAFFIC matt or silk matt Bona Traffic is a 2-component waterbased polyurethane lacquer developed for the treatment of floors in public places, requiring a high degree of wear and scratch resistance. Traffic Matt provides a smooth finish that is reminiscent of oiled floors. Traffic Silk Matt has a higher gloss with the same qualities in accordance with the durability and the scratch resistance. FACTORY TREATED/PREVIOUSLY LACQUERED FLOOR
The floor surface must be absolutely clean. Clean the floor with BOEN Cleaner, followed by Bona Prep, to ensure good adhesion of the new lacquer. Please note: Always carry out a test on a small area to check adhesion. After a period of 2-3 days when the lacquer has hardened, scratch the surface with a coin. If the lacquer remains in place, there is sufficient adhesion. The old lacquered surface must not have been previously treated with wax or polish. If this is the case, the floor must be milled down to bare wood to remove all traces of wax and polish. To the lacquer container is added
10 % Traffic hardener. Mixed lacquer is shaken at least 1 min. Do not stir. Let the container rest for a few minutes until all air bubbles have dispersed. Mixed lacquer/ hardener must be used within 5 hours. After the first coat of lacquer carry out an intermediate sanding with sandpaper graining 120 - 150. The next two coats can be applied without intermediate sanding. Make sure to keep the temperature of both lacquer and floors above 13 °C. USAGE
Approx. 1 ltr. per 8-10m2 (100-120 g/m2) per coat. For lacquering on bare wood use the lacquer manufacturer’s own instructions.
CARE & MAINTENANCE LACQUER PROFESSIONAL REPAIR SET For small repairs to repair scratches, holes, joints, damaged corners and edges, peeling offs, pressure marks, etc.

BOEN POLISH MATT For maintenance of matt lacquered parquet and wood flooring
BOEN Polish Matt is a waterbased, polyurethane reinforced maintenance product developed specifically for use on matt lacquered parquet and wooden floors. Please note: Polished floors cannot be re-lacquered without deep cleaning with particular agents. The product refreshes worn and matt lacquer surfaces, gives the floor a newly lacquered look and durable surface. For white matt lacquered floors a maintenance coat with BOEN Polish Matt is recommended immediately after installation. PREPARATION WORK
The surface should be clean and dry. Polish should not be used on floors that have been previously treated with wax. If the surface has been previously treated with another kind of polish or some unknown type of product, a test
should first be made to confirm compatibility. Shake the bottle/jar well before use. APPLICATION
Apply the polish with a Microfibre cloth to achieve a smooth finish. The use of a mop, cotton cloth, sponge or the like is recommended. Use approx. 1 Itr. per 50 m² (2 dl for 10 m²). It should be avoided to enter areas that have already begun to dry, as it can lead to a striped finish. The floor must dry for an hour before it is taken into use. If necessary, the floor can be applied one more coat after an hour. Used equipment is cleaned with water immediately after use. MAINTENANCE
There can hardly be given any particular interval for maintenance, as wear of course determines how often the floor is to be treated.

BONA NATURALE BASE
Base (primer) for Bona Naturale 2-component. Can also be used as a base for Bona Naturale 1-component. Base provides an extremely smooth and natural wood colour. Bona Naturale can be applied on most parquet and wooden floors, and there is no risk of side bonding effect, which can cause cracking sections (for example solid and other wooden flooring, also with sub-floor heating).
The surface to be lacquered must be absolutely clean. Before application the surface should be cleaned with Bona Prep in accordance with the instructions indicated on the label for Bona Prep (more info page 76). APPLICATION PROCESS
Bona Naturale 1-component: The can is shaken well before use for at least 30 seconds. 2 x Bona Naturale 1-component, or 1 x Bona Naturale Base + 2 - 3 coats of Bona Naturale 1-component.

CARE & MAINTENANCE MATT LACQUER (NATURALE) Bona Naturale 2-component: Add 10 % Naturale hardener and shake the can well for about 1 minute. The mixture must be used within 5 hours.
The floor can withstand light traffic after 8 hours. Bona Naturale is hardened after approx. 1 week. Before that you should not wash the floor or lay out rugs.
1 x Bona Naturale Base + 2 - 3 coats of Bona Naturale 2-component.
CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE
• Ensure consistent application and avoid ”ponds” that can cause uneven wood colour. • Make a good ”wet” edge to prevent visible overlaps. Process 3 - 5m² at a time. • Fiber leveling is removed after the first coat with a light sanding with sandpaper graining 120 - 150. CONSUMPTION
• First coat: 7 - 9 m²/liter (150 - 110 g/m²) • The following coats: 8 - 10 m²/liter (130 - 100 g/m²) DRYING
• First coat: 1.5 hour at 20 °C/60 % RF. • The following coats: 2.5 - 3 hours at 20 °C/60 % RF. Please note: The temperature of both the product and the floor must not be below 13 °C.
• Daily cleaning is performed with ”dry” cleaning methods, such as dry mopping or vacuuming. • When washing be careful with the amount of water. Add BOEN Cleaner, or another synthetic detergent. Do not use greasy soap. • A surface treated with Bona Naturale can be spot repaired without visible transitions or gloss difference. Sand the damaged area to remove any contaminants and smooth out sharp edges. • Set off with masking tape and apply Bona Naturale Base or Bona Naturale. Remove masking tape immediately. • Worn flooring can, when necessary, be renewed with new coats of Bona Naturale.

BONA NATURALE REPAIR KIT
Practical repair kit for matt lacquered flooring. A matt surface is easy to repair if minor damages, scratches, etc. have occurred on the surface. This can be done without the repair site becoming visible. Once the lacquer is dry, the same matt gloss is achieved as the rest of the floor. Wood is sensitive to water, and it is recommended to use a well wrung cloth. Any spillage on the floor should be removed immediately, and before it dries.
For natural oiled floors BOEN recommends to apply a maintenance coat with BOEN Natural oil or equivalent oxidative oil before using the floor.
If it should be necessary to wash the floor, add a maximum of 1 capfull of BOEN Floor Soap per litre water. Use a well wrung cloth and avoid water spillage on the floor.
INSTRUCTIONS OF USE
BOEN Floor Soap is also suitable for cleaning/maintenance of soap scrubbed floors or floors treated with caustic soda. Use a concentration of 1 litre soap/10-20 ltr. warm water.

Treatment with BOEN Oil Freshen Up makes oiled surfaces particularly wear resistant and worn surfaces will obtain a silky smooth, natural gloss again. The products are also available for white pigmented flooring. (”BOEN Oil Freshen Up White” and ”BOEN Oil Freshen Up Dark”) In particular, high traffic areas that are frequently cleaned, should be treated regularly with BOEN Oil Freshen Up. The floor must be clean and dry before the treatment. Please note that for natural oiled floors BOEN recommends to apply a maintenance coat with BOEN Natural oil or equivalent oxidative oil before using the floor.
INSTRUCTIONS
Shake well before use. BOEN Oil Freshen Up is applied with a lintfree cloth. A cap-full covers 1 - 2 m2. Start by applying on edges, corners, under radiators, etc. Should be applied in the longitudinal direction of the boards and must dry for 2 - 3 hours before use. Let the surface dry before it is polished. Stains are removed with a small amount of oil on a dry cloth. Please note that maintenance of worn areas such as for example walkways can easily be carried out using Oil Freshen Up. With appropriate use no joints will be visible.

BOEN NATURAL OIL Maintenance of oiled surfaces and finishing treatment of untreated/ sanded floors.
Wooden floors are often exposed to great stresses and strains. To retain the original surface properties over years, worn areas have to be renewed. After thorough cleaning, simply apply a very thin coat of BOEN Natural Oil. The hardwood floor also becomes abrasive, water and dirt resistant - a long lasting surface protection that is easy to maintain. Please note that for natural oiled floors BOEN recommends to apply a maintenance coat with BOEN Natural oil or equivalent oxidative oil before using the floor. PROTECTIVE SURFACE RENEWAL
1. Old worn floors must be cleaned with BOEN Floor Soap or an equivalent, slightly alkaline soap containing fat (mixed with water 1:1). On small surfaces use a handheld scouring pad, for larger surfaces use a pad
machine and white/brown pad, or scouring machine. 2. When the floor is dry apply a coat of BOEN Natural Oil. Start along the edges, corners, under radiators etc. Use a lint-free cloth for applying and polishing/ finishing to access difficult areas. APPLY THIN COATS! On the rest of the surface use Osmo Floor Brush 220mm, which provides the right amount of oil on the floor (40 ml/m²). 3. Rub the oil into the floor with the floor brush. Apply a last coat as a ”final finish” in the board’s longitudinal direction. If you want more shine, the surface can be polished. 4. Errors during application can be corrected up to 15 min after the first application. Find the error, correct it and then correct your footprints on your way back. 5. Drying time 8 - 10 hours. Drying time depends on the room temperature between 18 - 22 °C
CARE & MAINTENANCE OIL and relative humidity 50 - 60 %. Ensure good ventilation. Max. cure is achieved after approx. 14 days. 6. Clean the floor brush with white spirit. BASIC TIPS FOR FLOOR PREPARATION
Choosing the correct sanding method is a fundamental element in determining the subsequent appearance and quality of the surface. If a wooden floor has been well treated and cared for, allover sanding is not necessary. There are, however, two exceptions: • Old floors that are completely or partially worn, graying or flaking, or that have been treated with water-based, polyurethane or other varnishes. • Where there are deep impressions or severe mechanical damage to the wood. COATING ON RAW, SANDED FLOOR SURFACE
On untreated and sanded floorings, always 2 coats are required. Also when colour is used as primer. 1. First coat on the raw, sanded floor (see Floor preparation) as for ordinary maintenance; ca. 40 ml/m². 2. The dry surface can be, if desired, sanded using a fine

In order to repair major damages, it is possible to re-treat single boards or single parquet strips using the repair oil. In order to obtain the best possible uniform look, please follow these steps: 1. Grinding the surface in direction of the wood grain using abrasive paper with a grit of P150 (rough grinding). Then, please use the abrasive pad grit P360 for finishing. In order to obtain a uniform grinding look, we recommend you to use a sanding block. Tools: sanding paper P150, sanding block. 2. Before the treatment, thoroughly clean and remove the dust from the area (e.g. using a cloth or vacuum-cleaner). 3. Then treat the surface using a paint brush and the Solid Finish Oil transparent. Apply once a thin layer of oil in direction of the wood grain. (For white oiled surfaces: Solid Finish Oil, white).
Remove surplus material with a maintenance pad. Tools: paint brush, maintenance pad 4. Allow the repaired spot to dry overnight. 5. Then slightly plane the dried out surface in direction of the wood grain using the abrasive pad P360. 6. Clean the surface / remove the dust using a cloth or vacuumcleaner. 7. Then treat the surface a second time by applying a layer of Solid Finish Oil transparent with the help of a paint brush. (For white oiled surfaces: Solid Finish Oil, white) 8. Allow the repaired spot to dry overnight. 9. If required, slightly polish the repaired spot using BOEN Oil Freshen Up and a polishing cloth, in order to adapt the degree of gloss. Then slightly plane the dried out surface in direction of the wood grain using the abrasive pad P 360. Tool: sanding pad P 360 7. The surface must be absolutely clean. Prior to the application of lacquer, clean the floor with Bona Prep according to the instructions on the label. Then apply 1-2 coats of Sportive lacquer. Sportive lacquer usually has good adhesion to previously lacquered surfaces, but it is advisable to test the adhesion. Prepare a small area according to instructions and apply 1 coat of Sportive lacquer. After 3 days, scratch the surface with a coin. If the lacquer remains in place, there is sufficient adhesion.
We cannot guarantee the adhesion of lacquer applied to other lacquer types than Bona. Please note: Surfaces previously treated with wax, polish or similar products must not be re-lacquered until the floor has been milled down to bare wood. Certain types of parquet, which are stained with white or pastel shades should only be treated with a solvent based lacquer. COVERAGE RATIO

Remove dust and sand with a mop or other means of dry cleaning. Bona Sportive Cleaner Plus is added to water in accordance with instruction on the container. Using a mop or applicator, apply the mixture evenly over the floor. Allow the mixture to work for approx. 5 min before washing the floor, using a machine fitted with a red scouring pad. Finally rinse with clean water. Please note: The amount of water used must be kept to a minimum. It is important that all remaining cleaning agent be removed from the surface.

BONA SPORTIVE PAINT Bona Sportive Paint is a single-component water based polyurethane/ acrylic paint, used for line-marking or parquet and wooden flooring in gymnastics and sporting facilities.
Sportive Paint is hard-wearing but should receive a coat of Sportive Top-Coat. APPLICATION
The surface which is to be trackmarked must be lacquered with Bona Sportive lacquer or other Bona water based lacquer. Trackmarking is usually carried out after 2 coats of lacquer. The lacquer must be dry and sanded between coats using sandpaper graining 120 or finer. The surface must first be marked-up, using masking tape that is firmly attached to the lacquered surface. Apply the paint by means of a roller or brush. It is usually sufficient with one coat of paint, but in some cases it can be necessary with an extra coat. The temperature of both the room and paint should be over 13 째C. The masking tape must be removed before the paint
hardens. FACTORY TREATED/PREVIOUSLY LACQUERED FLOOR
Sportive Paint usually has good adhesion to previously lacquered surfaces, but it is advisable to test adhesion. See Bona Prep information on page 76. After 24 hours the Sportive Paint is dry. It can then be sanded to ensure good adhesion for the top coat of lacquer, when applied. COLOURS

In most cases builders’ paper is suitable as underlay, but remember that on concrete must first be installed 0.20mm of plastic foil (for floating installation).

Attention! Note that glue-free solutions (BOEN X-press-parquet) requires a firmer underlay than glued solutions. Standard density (kg/m³) are often around approx. 25 - 30 kg/m³, which is normally well enough for glued solutions.
