Art That’s Relaxing... “I draw because it’s one of the things I love and enjoy doing. The mediums I use while making art are acrylic. I use these because they are easier to control on paper. The art piece with the girl and the sky was one of the very first acrylic paintings I’d ever made,” said Rowell.

“I draw because it helps me get rid of my boredom and be creative. It has given me an A on multiple projects, so that’s a plus.” said sophomore Lauren WiensWiens.

Good art takes time to perfect By Jessikah Smith Waylynn Dunn is a talented artist who uses her art as a way to “vent” about things in her life. Many people run or read to get away, but she draws. It gives her a way to express herself and put her creativity into something that she can go back to and feel. The meaning behind most of Dunn’s art is very personal. “If I am trying to figure out how to say something to someone or figure out how I feel, then
11
Dunn has some advice for artists just starting out. “You are gonna suck. And you just have to practice over and over and trust that you will get somewhere eventually, but it’s going to take a long time, so if you actually care about it, you just have to have fun with it and don’t get frustrated when it’s really bad.” Dunn started to seriously get into art when she was in the Seventh grade, making fanart mostly, but then she started to create her own stories and much more.

Fire inside of me I am staring at my reflection in the mirror
Trying to figure out what is wrong Sweetheart, is my haircut ugly? Or maybe it’s my white gown? Is it my bright drops of crimson on my lips? Sweetheart, did you make him mad? Is there rebellion and hatred inside of my eyes? No …. It’s just you A fire burning inside of me Sweetheart, stop it Written by Arwa Khaleel (2018 Grad)

A Letter to my love You mysterious man What game are you playing? How could you play with my heart? There is a long talk between us Not about love Not about passion Not about future Not about dreams A conversation about a sword of fire stabbing my heart You are a poet, my love You said, “you are basil, a ruby, a rose Then, how could you burn my petals? You think we can be born again Let me tell you something, love There is not a pure rebirth The past will haunt us again Written by Arwa Khaleel (2018 Grad)

The Pack
It was a normal day in the township. The sun was shining. Villagers were watering their plots of garden, and the flocks of ravens flew overhead. The peace was invaded with sounds, loud howls, and the stomps upon the flat earth. “Run! The Oracle warned you all! But you insolent peasants failed to listen!” a booming voice yelled, growls piercing the silence afterwards. “Now your disgusting blood shall stain the fresh grass with red morning dew!” the Alpha yelled. “I, the Alpha male of The Bloodshed Hellhounds, will plunder your weak excuse of a village and then I shall burn it to the ground!” The werewolf then pointed a sharp claw in the direction of the House of Maidens. “Betas! Take all human females you find back to the cave! Leave none here!”
One of the older women, most likely with a family of her own, let out a cry of alarm. “Please, don’t take my children! I’ll come quietly, but I don’t want my sweet offspring to share my fate!” She exclaimed, putting her thin arms in front of her five young girls. One of the five, the eldest, stepped into the crossfire. Her blonde twin braids hung over her shoulders and her brown eyes shone with determination. “Master Hunter, may I interject?” The female asked. The Alpha in question raised in eyebrow at the youngling. “You may.” “Thank you, I shall not waste your time.” She replied. The blonde began, “I, Renmas of the Homington family lineage, eldest of five siblings, and successor to the throne, shall offer myself to you, the Alpha, in exchange for all other townsfolk in our village of Galktroz.” The young princess then ended in a bow. The Alpha looked the princess up and down, contemplating on whether or not he should accept her offer, or tear the village to shreds. The princess watched the Alpha, her face turning bit pink. She furrowed her brows, then undid her braid, letting her light colored locks cascade down, now free from their cloth prison. Hunter looks surprised as she untied her hair. After a few more minutes of examining her, he finally speaks, “I have made my final decision. I will accept your offer. You may say your final goodbyes before you come with us.” he turns back towards his pack, and speaks to them. They all turn and head back to their cave. He sits and waits in the direction of the cave. Renmas let out a sigh of relief. Her family would be safe, and that’s all that matters. She said all her goodbyes, clinging to her mother and sisters for a few seconds. After all was said and over with, she turned and bowed to Hunter and told him that she was ready to leave. He nods, then silently begins to lead her towards the cave where the rest of the pack resides. “So, why did you decide to sacrifice yourself for your village? I mean, wouldn’t you rather be with your sisters and mother rather than by yourself?” Renmas looked a bit sad. Her gaze shifted to the ground beneath her feet. “I would have loved to stay back in my hometown with my family. But I decided that it would be better without me, one less princess to worry about, right?” Her voice broke, then she coughed in an attempt of hiding it.
16
“Hm.” Says Hunter, trying to hide the fact he feels the slightest bit of sympathy for the princess. After a few minutes, they reach the cave. The pack is either lying in a certain area of the cave, or giving their young tongue baths. He leads her to a secluded part of the cave, that has rags and hay in it as a bed. “This is where you will be staying for the rest of your life now, you will be fed, and we will teach you our ways first thing tomorrow, now you should get some rest, we have a long day tomorrow.” Renmas wrinkled her nose. She took a deep breath a looked at Hunter. “Thank you.” She simply replied. The princess sat down in the ‘bed’ and curled into a ball, closing her eyes tightly and dosed off. He leaves her to rest and leaves the cave, going into his human form and walking into a nearby village, a different one from where he had kidnapped Renmas. The male continued on his way, taking glances around the village. He watched as the all the people rushed by, going about in their daily lives, just trying to live, and survive. Well, he’s the Alpha of a pack, and they need to survive as well. The humans were so cruel to them in the past, not wanting to accept his own kind amongst themselves. They were just as sane, and intelligent as the humans. They just needed a good chance to prove it. Perhaps the humans didn’t trust them out of greed, or maybe even fear. Well, either way, the humans would pay for the way they drive out others. Written by D’angelo Valle (9)

The Noise of Silence I am walking in your streets Seeing love wrapped in shrouds I came back walking on the flames Is there a response? Seeing love wrapped in shrouds carrying my grief with me Is there a response? Silence follows me everywhere Carrying my grief with me My roses are not there‌ they are gone Silence follows me everywhere The land of the slaughtered love is not mine anymore Written by Arwa (2018 Grad)

ME What if you found out that today I died? What Would you do? Would you mourn for me? Would you cry? I understand that we don’t have a lot in common, And the fact that you don’t know what I’m truly like, But if you just got to know me, the real me I think our friendship would be nice You have no idea how hard it is to be different It’s not easy to not be the same I wish I could just be one of you and your guys, So I could spare myself the shame We see each other every day And you could say we interact a lot But if I was just gone like that Would you give me a second thought? The True Guardian A True Guardian can Bring many things. Wonder, Hope, Memories, Dreams And Fun... When I feel dull or glum, I’d later see all kinds Of great things, Shown by the one With Wonder as a gift... When I am in my Darkest hour, I won’t be alone long. I will be lifted up By the one who Gives me Hope... When I may not be able To see them for a while I would leave them a treasure For the one who will Keep the memories...

When I am stuck With a Dream that I cannot reach, By my side will be The one who would Lend their hand to Help me seize it... When I feel down or upset I’d be told to get up And smile By the one who Brought the Fun... And I would... I would marvel at the Wonder, Thank for the Hope, Make my Dreams come true, Cherish the Memories, and Enjoy the Fun And all for The one who Believed in me... -Marcela Sanchez

The Nobody Who loved a Somebody I am a Nobody, It’s hard to admit but true But sometimes I ask myself, Is he too? The boy that I dream of all night The one with a white smile and eyes so bright Oh how I wish that I knew.. Is he a nobody like me? Or a somebody like you? He always looks so happy But is it just a disguise? I wonder if you looked down deep, Would you see the pain in his eyes? We see each other day after day But I can’t ever get a good read I have so many questions to ask And for the answers I shall plead I wonder if hes lonely or if he’s desperate for a friend What if he’s just like me? Who’s destined to be alone till the end
22
I’ve been alone for many years And frankly I’m starting not to care But in the begining I wasted many tears And if he’s anything like me, it’s just not fair I hope he knows what it’s like to be caraed for I hope he knows the true meanng of love If he just has one person that’s always there That might make it good enough I never knew what it was like to be cared for I will never learn the true meaning of love But if I know he had the slightest bit more For me, that would definetly be good enough I wrote this to someone who deserved it To someone who touched my heart with his kind soul To someone who is not above anyone Especially a lowly, stupid nobody girl I wrote this to my secret love, Who’s name I shall never confess But I shall say he is, in fact, a somebody But I never expected any less Written By Alexandra DeGuia (9)

I am sick “I can’t go to school today,” Said little grumpy Sara, “I have measles and the mumps I have a headache My mouth is wet, my throat is dry My eyes are blue It might be the flu I cough, sneeze, gasp, and choke My voice is weak I can barely hear myself when I speak I think my hair is falling down And don’t you think my face is turning white? I am getting so old My brain is completely dead I can’t hear There is a hole inside of my ear I have a shiver in my thumb I have some chest pain and my heart is………..”

Ceramics has had a special place in Cheston youngbergs heart for two years By: Kayla Blair
Junior Cheston Youngberg has taken Vicky Gravenslunds ceramics class for two years. He has grown alot in the art of ceramics and appreciate the time he has spent as Gravenslund student. Youngbergs other hobbies include playing with his dog, and gardening, But most of all he loves making ceramics art. What inspired him to do ceramics was that hes able to be free to build whatever he wants. This ceramics artist started doing it in 2017, and even made an instagram account for his work (@ceramic_artist). His favorite piece that hes made is called ‘Curlom and kumon’ (picture on the right). His belief is that ceramics should be more known, and Its also a fun, easy class according to himself.

DEYEVERSITY One word illustrated in a simple way By Briana and Brielle Nylund
Tenth grader Ethan Jeager took this pictures of his peers’ eyes. He learned how to use many techniques while in photography class. One technique used in this picture included making the picture black and white and then enhancing the brightness of his models’ eyes. Their eyes’ colors are natural just enhanced to show the contrast between eyes. “We had to do a portfolio. It was a recurring thing. It had to be the same type of thing. So I chose eyes. I was the only one who got 100 percent in all of the classes,” Ethan said. Jeager’s one motivation when he took this photo was to stand out from his other classmates who were all doing similar projects, he said.
