DESIGNER ANN-CARIN WIKTORSSON Ann-Carin is a product designer who trained at the HDK School of Design and Crafts at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden, and the Royal College of Art, London. She is a member of the freelance group, Plan 3, which is based in Järntorget in Göteborg, Sweden. With her passion for food, she has created several well-known products for the kitchen. Finding inspiration and motivation in everyday situations, she works with designs that bring together functional, tactile and visual elements – much to the delight of those who use the products.

When I began work on designing POP, the aim was to unite visual joy and playfulness with function: a lovely feeling when you hold a cup or mug in your hands. I searched for designs with character and charm. Objects that stand out and brighten up your kitchen: on the dining table or a kitchen shelf waiting to be used. I have always been fascinated by the typical Swedish coffee drinking habits and wanted to design a series of items that quite simply enhance everyday life – cups and saucers for sweet treats and satisfying sandwiches.

She spent three years as senior designer at Foundation 33 in London, serving such notable clients as Channel 4, Island Records, MTV and Serpentine Gallery. She has designed textile patterns for Borås Cotton, Eastpak, Dagmar, Boxfresh and Stüssy. Her most famous creations so far are her AnimalFlowers wallpaper posters. In 2004, Hanna received the Elle Decoration International Design Award for ‘Wall Coverings and Wallpaper’.

From the kitchen windows, you can see the garden intertwined with the wild countryside in the adjoining fields. There’s a little pond where a family of ducks live, and if you’re lucky, you may catch sight of a heron strutting around the perimeter.

When I am sketching designs I’m looking for curves that can enhance the content in different ways – as well as colours. Playful design transitions and contrasts, such as the Duo vase. Two products in one. A glass vase for tulips and one for the first peony of the year – together they create the shape of a bottle. With or without flowers, Duo is a decorative, functional glass object in the room.

English brothers Adrian and Jeremy Wright formed their practice in 2005 and have gone on to design award-winning products for a variety of international clients. Adrian trained in Mechanical Engineering followed by Industrial Design Engineering at the Royal College of Art. After graduation he spent three years designing for British architects Norman Foster and David Chipperfield. Jeremy studied Industrial Design at Brunel University and, after graduating in 2002, worked as a freelance designer for Philips Design in London. Their work has received several Red Dot, Design Plus and other awards, including in 2011, a Red Dot â&#x20AC;&#x2DC;Best of the Bestâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; award and a nomination for the prestigious D&AD Awards.

Her degree project involved investigating and searching for special effects with transparent coloured glass. Carl Hagerling is an industrial designer educated at Lund University (LTH) who has also studied graphic design. He started the Hagerling Form design studio in 2009 in an old dairy shop in Malmö, Sweden. Some of Hagerling Form’s clients are IKEA, Dark and Bombardier, and they design everything from clocks to train interiors. His innovative and functional idiom has been awarded Residence Magazine’s Newcomer of the Year award and a Good Design Award for his space inspired pendant.

Inspired by beads, jewellery and precious stones, have I worked with Sagaform to create the SPECTRA glass series. I´ve created wine glasses with a joyful feel based on a green-blue and red-purple colour palette. To go with the wine glasses, there is a carafe in blue or purple, as well as water glasses in various shades. Shades that reflect the colourplay of the wine glasses. The designs are generous in size – which is a feature of the entire series. SPECTRA definitely enhances the enjoyment of a good wine. Cheers!

DESIGNER MATZ BORGSTRÖM Matz has very successfully designed products for a number of major Swedish design producers, Orrefors, Asplund and Boda Nova among others. He is one of the founders of the designer program at Beckman’s School of Design in Stockholm, Sweden, where he was responsible for the program’s contents. Furthermore, he has been a lecturer in glass design at University College of Arts, Crafts and Design’s Department of Ceramics and Glass. He has been presented with several international awards and scholarships in evidence of his abilities.

SOS is an old Swedish tradition: Schnapps, cheese and pickled herring (or Snaps, Ost and Sill) are the three main ingredients of any Midsummer smorgasbord. Along with the scent of dill and new potatoes, the whole combination gives a warm feeling of summer and togetherness. A schnapps carafe with a dual wall of glass, schnapps glasses in which the drink fills the entire foot, fish-shaped serving pieces, a cutting board with a cheese dome and a special jar for pickled herring with a cheerfully coloured plastic, airtight lid – all create a sense of unity on the table.The colourful fish and dill branches are inspired by the 1950s, but lovingly modernised for the 21st century table.

In 1990 he graduated from the industrial department of the Swedish Academy of Art and Crafts in Stockholm. Since then he has freelanced as a designer for many clients in Sweden and elsewhere. Charmolu’s products in the Sagaform range are featured in the Project series, which has received great praise in Europe and beyond and has won many design awards and honourable mentions.

SAGAFORM’S EDGE is a unique range of knives and knife sets. Designed by Pascal Charmolu, the clean Japanese lines speak for our clear, functional philosophy. The EDGE blade is fashioned from high-quality molybdenum/vanadium 1.4116-steel, hardened to Rockwell 53-55 HRC. The distinctive EDGE profile is created by first punching out the blade and then honing its finish. The knives are extremely easy to sharpen, even for the novice. EDGE handles are of hollow 18/8 stainless steel. EDGE’s uniqueness lies in the fact that the blade runs through the entire handle where it is anchored at the back, giving the knife both resilience and strength. Each knife is individually designed to strike a perfect balance between the handle and the size and weight of the blade. To maintain best cutting quality, EDGE knives should not be washed in dishwasher. EDGE comes in a handsome metal gift box.

Inspired by the 1950s and 60s, have I created a series of seven practical storage containers in stoneware with lids of real oak. The black and white decoration appears as a graphic relief on the ceramics, creating a cheerful medley of motifs – fishes, vegetables, flowers and fruits – on the outside of the containers. The different items in the series have been specially developed for storing a variety of kitchen staples, such as crispbread, butter, coffee and sugar. The lids have a tight seal to ensure that foods inside stay fresh.

We had aimed to create mugs and cups with a shape, colour and feel that all enhance the taste experience. The saucers for the tea and espresso cups can also be used as a lid to keep the drinks warm. Stackability is a given, and a welcome trait in our crowded kitchen cupboards. Colourful outsides combined with a white inside bring out the rich glory of the hot drink. Too strong? Too weak? Just right? This series was named for the shape of the handles. The handles are not only pleasant and secure to hold, they are also lovely to look at.

trap design by matz borgström “EN LURIG FÄLLA FÖR ALLA SOMMARENS SMÅ KRYP” Formgivaren Matz Borgström har tillsammans med Sagaform tagit fram getingfällan TRAP. Den undre behållaren fylls med en söt och väldoftande vätska som lätt tilldrar sig getingens uppmärksamhet. Den övre delen fungerar som en tillslutning och dess hål som ingång för getingen. Håligheten är konstruerad så att getingen inte kan ta sig ut. Med andra ord ett effektivt sätt att bli av med allt störande surr och obehagliga stick då sommarens middagar intas utomhus. “AN INGENIOUS TRAP FOR ALL THOSE SUMMER CREEPY-CRAWLIES” Designer Matz Borgström has worked with Sagaform to create this TRAP wasp trap. The bottom reservoir is filled with a sweet, fragrant liquid to attract the wasp. The upper section works as a seal and its holes as an entrance for the wasp. The holes are configured so that the wasp can’t get out. In other words, it’s a very effective way of getting rid of all that irritating buzzing and unpleasant stings when you are eating your dinner outdoors in the summer.

New Wave makes continuous efforts towards environmental improvements in its ordinary production. The Group has previously phased out most of the use of chlorine bleaching in favour of bleaching using hydrogen peroxide. New Wave invests considerable resources in ensuring that certain carcinogenic AZO dyes are not used. Suppliers have also been encouraged to use mechanical shrinking instead of chemical shape stabilisation, in order to avoid formaldehyde residue that may induce allergies. New Wave organises transport from the Far East between different companies as much as possible. New Wave is currently investigating the possibility of transport with trains instead of lorries in Bangladesh. New Wave hardly uses airplane deliveries at all, unless the delivery is very urgent.

NEW WAVE GROUP MEMBERS OF THE CLEAN SHIPPING PROJECT Since October 2008, the New Wave Group is a member of the Clean Shipping Project, a Swedish project fighting for a health and environmental friendly development of the shipping industry. The way the project works is that the members of the project request environmental information from the shipping companies about their ships based on 20 different factors that have an environmental effect. The information is collected in an environmental index, the Clean Shipping Index, where entire shipping companies can be evaluated based on their environmental qualities. The information can then be used when procuring transportation in order to put pressure on the shipping companies to make their ships more environmentally friendly. Also non members and privies outside Sweden can use the index. A future goal is to have international transportation buyers unite and put pressure on the shipping industry also. As it is, the New Wave Group already performs regular check ups of factories and products to make sure that they are all in line with environmental and health requirements. We use a minimum of flight transportation and consolidate our shipping to a great extent to minimize spill in our containers. To be members of the Clean Shipping Project is a natural step further; now we can play an active part in influencing the struggle for a cleaner shipping industry. The Clean Shipping Project is designed in a way that is in line with the New Wave Group’s

Together with designers Lotta Odelius, Hanna Werning and Katarina Hjalmarsson, Sagaform has created a series of products for the modern kitchen. Pattern and colour adorns everything from kitchen textiles to trays and practical storage tins. The series encourages creative combinations for our counter tops and kitchen cupboards. Lotta Odelius has gone retro and flirted with the fifties with her Tulip pattern. Graphic tulips in black, red and pink create an exciting design adorning textiles and storage tins. Hanna Werning found her inspiration in our blossoming gardens. Her Garden pattern blends playful, trailing floral splendour with colourful animals. Katarina Hjalmarsson wants her graphic Story design to tell a story from the world of fables. Organic patterns are combined with animals from the world of fairytales to tell an exciting story. The idea of these three completely different decors/patterns is for them to appeal to the different tastes and styles of our customers. Which pattern will you choose to add colour to your life?
