Bereits 2005 entwickelte german:A.® das erste adaptive, vollelektronisch geregelte Fahrwerk, dieses „Trail Tronic®“ genannte System wird nun seit 2015 in exklusiver Kleinserie für einen OEM Kunden produziert.

Leichtbau aus Tradition
Leichtbau, eine eigenständige Formensprache und außergewöhnliche Lösungen prägen bis heute das Produktportfolio des Unternehmens. Mit der Produktserie „ZERO“ präsentiert man zum 20-jährigen Jubiläum sensationelle Leichtbaurekorde gepaart mit einer technischen Lösung, die ebenfalls richtungsweisend für zukünftige Federungssysteme im Leichtbausegment ist!
Schon bei Firmengründung im Jahr 1995 war der „Spirit“ der Gründer von dem Wunsch gekennzeichnet, „das Beste“ zu kreieren, ungewöhnliche Wege zu gehen, Fragen zu stellen und nicht zu akzeptieren, dass etwas so ist, wie es ist.
Visionen. Das ist die Quelle unseres Handelns. Hierbei ist definitiv nicht das Bemühen einer Floskel zu verstehen, die sich gerne von vielen Unternehmen ans Revers geheftet wird! Das plakative Beispiel stellt das Jahr 2009 dar: Im Rahmen des 20-jährigen Jubiläums der Zeitschrift „BIKE“ präsentierte german:A.® eine Studie eines zukünftigen Bike Konzepts. Der heute für CONWAY® gebaute E-Rider beinhaltet bereits als Technologieträger etliche Lösungen dieser 2009 noch visionären Idee!
Wenn man sich die ersten Entwürfe der german:A.® Produkte anschaut, wird deutlich, dass man bereits in den Anfängen seiner Zeit weit voraus war! Gebogene Rohre, fließende Formen, harmonisches Design waren zu dieser Zeit die Ausnahme. Wenn man sich die Entwürfe im internationalen Markt heute anschaut, ist diese Formensprache selbstverständlich geworden.
Zukunft. Aus Visionen leiten sich Aktivitäten zur Gestaltung der Zukunft ab. Am Anfang steht die Frage. Die Frage entsteht durch ein Problem. Es beginnt die Suche nach der Lösung. Ein Beispiel: Jeder Biker kennt es. Das Problem mit dem Federweg. Auf rauhen Trails kann man nicht genug davon haben. Aber jeder Biker kennt noch ein Problem: Den Pogo-Effekt, das Aufschaukeln beim Pedallieren; Das Sag-Problem an der Federgabel, stimmt im Sitzen, steht man aber auf, dann ist nicht mehr viel übrig vom ursprünglichen Federweg! Durch die Verschiebung des Schwerpunktes nach vorne taucht die Gabel tief ein! Und leider: Das gleiche passiert beim Bremsen. Und im Downhill. Und noch schlimmer: Beim Downhill, gleichzeitig Stehen, gleichzeitig Bremsen. Genau dann, wenn man den Federweg braucht! Was ist aber am Hinterbau? Leider das gleiche Problem. Nur umgekehrt. Der Dämpfer verliert den Sag beim Bremsen, beim Aufstehen, im Downhill. Und dann kehrt sich das Problem um. Im Uphill! Hinten zehrt sich der Restfederweg auf, vorne der Sag der Federgabel.
Das neben dem Schriftzug german:A.® auch als Logo verwendete Symbol sollte in seiner ursprünglichen Farbgebung auch die hauseigene Philosophie repräsentieren: Die linke Klammer in blau stand für die anspruchsvollen Technologien, die Thomas Kamm, der Ingenieur, repräsentierte, die rechte Klammer in grün stand für die Ästhetik und Formensprache, die Martin Achenbach, der Industriedesigner, repräsentierte. Dem Doppelpunkt dazwischen folgte dann die „deutsche Antwort“, das Ergebnis der kongenialen Zusammenarbeit von „Brain & Soul“!

01.12.1995 Gründungsdatum Am 01.12.1995 wird die GERMAN ANSWER GbR Thomas Kamm und Martin Achenbach im hessischen Wölfersheim, ca. 35km nördlich von FFM gegründet. GA produziert hochwertige Leichtbau-Fahrradrahmen, die in italienischer Manufakturfertigung hergestellt werden. Beide Gesellschafter waren zuvor für den Frankfurter Specialized Importeur Reyschmidt & Starosta mit der Hausmarke „RS-bikes“ als Produktentwickler tätig. 1997 kommt es zur Produkterweiterung durch die Entwicklung von Stoßdämpfern, da sich der Beschaffungsmarkt als schwierig herausstellt. Aus dem aus der Not geborenen Engagement entwickelt sich ein neues Geschäftsfeld im Bereich hydropneumatischer Systeme. Hinterbaudämpfer und Federgabeln für hochwertige Mountainbikes werden erstmalig entwickelt und produziert. 2000 beschreibt das Ende der Fahrrad- und Rahmenproduktion, die der in diesem Jahr ausscheidende Gesellschafter Achenbach zuvor betreut hatte. Es entsteht eine weitere Spezialisierung auf Feder- / Dämpfungssysteme sowie technologisch verwandte R&D Projekte.
2004 erfolgt die erste Entwicklung einer elektronisch gesteuerten, hydraulischen Knieprothese in Zusammenarbeit mit der TU Hamburg Harburg. Die medizinische Prothetik mit den Ingenieuersdisziplinen Hydropneumatik, Antriebs- und Getriebetechnik stellt dabei eine sehr interessante Parallele zu den Fahrwerkstechnologien bei Einspurfahrzeugen dar! 2005 Entwicklung des ersten elektronischen Dämpfungssystems „Trail Tronic“. Ausgelöst durch die Entwicklung einer elektronischen Knieprothese gewinnt der Bereich der mechatronischen Systeme bei GA einen immer wichtigeren Einfluss. 2009 Ein weiteres Geschäftsfeld entsteht im Bereich der mechatronischen Widerstandsgeber für Kraft- und Trainingsmaschinen für Fitness, Physiotherapie und Orthopädie. Durch die Übernahme eines in dieser Branche langjährig etablierten Unternehmens entsteht ein neuer Firmenverbund mit technologischer Verwandtschaft zur Nutzung weit reichender Synergieeffekte.
2010 Gründung der DynamiX Systems GmbH, Partnergesellschaft für den Bereich der Kraft- und Therapiemaschinen. 2010 Ein weiteres Geschäftsfeld im Bereich der E-Mobilität wird erschlossen! Durch die Entwicklung und Produktion des „E-Rider“, vertrieben von dem langjährigen Geschäftspartner Hartje unter der Marke „Conway“ wird ein völlig neues Konzept der E-Bikes definiert! Speziell im High-Performance-Bereich stellt der E-Rider mit 25kg, 1,4KW und offen über 60 km/h noch über Jahre den „Benchmark“ dar! 2012 – heute werden zahlreiche Innovationen der E-Mobilität, Fahrwerkstechnik und mechatronischer Systeme umgesetzt. 2015 präsentiert GA anläßlich des 20-jährigen Bestehens einen neuen Weltrekord: Mit der neuen Federgabel Xcite „ZERO“ knackt die hessische Edelschmiede erstmalig im Bereich der potenten Mountainbike Federgabeln die 1kg – Grenze!

The so called “Trail Tronic©” is being produced since 2015 in an exclusive small-scale production for an OEM client.
20th anniversary german:A. Light weight design from tradition
Light weight design, an independent formal language and exceptional solutions characterize the company’s product portfolio up to the present day. With the product series “ZERO”, the company presents for its 20th anniversary light weight records accompanied by a technical resolution that is trendsetting for future suspension systems of the light weight segment.
The foundation of the company in 1995 already showed how the founders “spirit” was characterized by the desire of creating “the very best”, going unusual ways, asking questions and not accepting something the way it is.
Visions. This is the source of our action. On this occasion it is definitely not to be understood as the effort on empty phrases, of which most companies proudly take the credits! The striking example is the year 2009: for the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the magazine “BIKE”, german:A.® presented a survey on future bike concepts. The present E-Rider developed and designed for CONWAY© implies, as a technology carrier, several solutions of the idea that once was revolutionary in 2009.
Taking a look at the first drafts of the german:A.® products, it becomes apparent that already in the beginning the company was ahead of its times. Bended tubes, flowing forms and a harmonious design have been an exception at that time. Taking a look at the drafts of the international markets nowadays, it shows how this design language has become a matter of course.
Future. Activities for the creation of the future are derived from visions. At the beginning there is a question. This question is caused by a problem. The quest for a solution has begun. One example: every biker knows it. The problem of how much travel you need. One cannot get enough of it on rough trails. But bikers know another problem as well: the pogo-effect while pedalling; the sag issue at the front fork, it is alright while sitting but when standing up, there is nothing left of the former travel! Due to the shift of the moving centre of gravity to the front, the bike deeply dives into the fork! And unfortunately: the same happens when braking. And downhill. And even worse: Downhill, standing and trying to brake at the same time. Just when the former travel is needed the most! But what about the rear suspension? Unfortunately it is the same problem – only in reverse. The shock loses the sag while braking, standing or going downhill. And then the problem turns around – uphill. At the rear the remaining travel is used up, in front the sag of the fork.
In addition to the logotype german:A.® the symbol is used as a logo and, in its original form, supposed to represent the in-house philosophy: the left bracket in blue stands for the demanding technologies that Thomas Kamm, the engineer, represented, and the right bracket in green stands for the aesthetics and the language of forms that Martin Achenbach, the industrial designer, represented. The colon in between has been followed by the “German answer” – a result of the congenial cooperation of “Brain & Soul”!

The story of german: A.® 01.12.1995 German Answer GbR is founded by Thomas Kamm and Martin Achenbach in Wölfersheim in Hessen about 35km north of Frankfurt. german:A.® produces high-quality lightweight bicycle frames which are totally handmade by Italian manufacturers. Both partners have previously worked as product developers for the Specialized importer Reyschmidt & Starosta in Frankfurt with the house brand “RS-Bikes”. 1997 Unfavourable procurement market conditions have eventually led to product expansion through the development of rear shocks. Being initially a solution born out of necessity, this engagement has resulted in creation of a new market segment in the field of hydro-pneumatic systems. Forks and rear shocks for quality mountain bikes are first developed and produced. 2000 Marks the end of the cycle and frame production as a result of the Achenbach’s decision to leave the company (he was the one who has supervised this branch). It causes further specialization in spring / damping systems, as well as technologically related R&D projects.
2004 Electronically controlled hydraulic knee prosthesis are first developed in collaboration with the Technical University of Hamburg-Harburg. The medical prosthetics in combination with such engineering disciplines as hydropneumatics, drive and transmission technology represent a very interesting parallel to the chassis technologies in two wheelers. 2005 german:A.® has developed one of the first electronic damping systems “Trail Tronic”. Triggered by the development of an electronic prosthetic knee, the field of mechatronic systems becomes even more important for the company. 2009 A further business segment has been created in the field of mechatronic resistance transmitters for training equipment with fitness, physiotherapy and orthopedics. The acquisition of a well-established company in this industry enabled creation of a partnership based on technological relatedness and was aimed at realization of far-reaching synergy effects.
2010 Establishment of DynamiX Systems GmbH, a partner company in the field of training and therapy machines. 2010 A further business segment in the field of e-mobility is created. Development and production of the “E-Rider” which is distributed by the long-term business partner Hartje under the brand name “Conway”, gave rise to an entirely new concept of E-bikes. With a weight of 25 kg, engine power of 1.4kW and maximum speed reaching over 60 km/h the E-Rider is considered to be a benchmark in the high-performance segment. 2012 – today A number of innovations in e-mobility, chassis technology and mechatronic systems has been introduced. 2015 On the occasion of the 20th anniversary, german:A.® sets a new world record with the new Fork Xcite “ZERO” – the german high-end manufacturer is the first one to cross the 1kg limit in the segment of mountain bike suspension telescope forks.
