Central Indiana United Way Supporters Host Reception By Pat Carlini There seems to be a new way of giving when it comes to the United Way. The organization known for asking corporations and their employees for annual donations is bringing the campaign home … literally, in an entertaining way. Families such as the Lindsey family in Williams Creek offer up their home for an evening of fun and giving. Jessica and Dave Lindsey teamed up with several other couples, many from throughout the Geist and Carmel areas, to throw a party at their beautiful home on November 13th. A creative invitation read, “Forget what they say about Friday the 13th, help us create some good luck for Central Indiana.”

(Left to right) J.P. Gentile, Tony George, David Lowry, Laura George, Matt and Michelle Cohen.

Cheese and fine wine courtesy of Lacy & Company, “Purveyors of Fine Wine” was offered to guests, as well as hors d’oeuvres from Café Patachou. The United Way of Central Indiana’s President and CEO Ellen Annala says it seems to be a new way for families to celebrate and give to the charitable organization that serves several agencies throughout central Indiana. The Lindseys kicked off the party in their spacious kitchen with a few words to their guests. “We are so blessed,” said Dave. “But, we have to take it beyond to people who just don’t have those blessings.” The night also featured a special appearance by the Poole family who received help for their son, Eric, through the United Way’s Easter Seals Crossroads. Eric was born premature at 1 lb. 12 oz. “Doctors said he may not ever walk or talk, but with the help from United Way volunteers, he’s doing all that! We credit the Easter Seals Crossroads for helping to teach him basic life skills. Without their help, we may not be where we are today.”

UWCI’s Campaign Chair and senior vice president of Eli Lilly and Company, Gino Santini, was also on hand for the festivities. Tony and Laura George were in attendance, as well as several co-hosts including Julie and Bernie Lacy, Elizabeth and J.A. Lacy, and Brenda and Steve Walker. The United Way of Central Indiana’s goal this year is $39 million. They were at 60% of their goal by November 10th. The Lindsey party raised dollars for United Way and offered a good time for all, which may be just the way to get it done in a day where the need is so high and the economy is still so down.

How Carmel Gets Into the Christmas Spirit of responses to my request about how people give back at Christmas on atCarmel.net, I was overwhelmed by the goodwill that so many of you can’t wait to extend to others this Christmas. From adopting families to baking and putting on benefit concerts, even our furry friends have not been forgotten as it seems giving is only limited by our imaginations. Let’s have a look at what’s on your agenda this holiday season … Adopting Needy Families Many of you wrote to tell of how you adopt families at Christmas. Janet Striebel, Stacey Torres and Rick Lindsey have all been involved with adopting another family at Christmas and buying gifts for each member. Janet says her family looks forward to this every year. “This has been a tradition and still remains as one of the warmest moments of our season,” she says. For those of you interested in doing this, the following places will get you started. Joe Lazzara of Joe’s Butcher Shop gives back each holiday season by donating, among other things, over 1,500 lbs. of turkeys to the needy.

United Way of Central Indiana has an adopt-a-family program. Check their website for more information at www. uwci.org.

Rather than working with an organization, many of you keep your eyes open for people in your everyday lives to help. Tammy Smith picks a family or a person, stranger or relative, to do something nice for at Christmas. Her past good works have included taking a single mother out for dinner and buying her an outfit, to giving monetary help to families in need during the holiday season. This year she wants to include her nieces and nephews in the mix to let them see that Christmas is not only about receiving, but giving as well. “I would like to take them with me this year,” she said.

Katherine Haidar has a similar take on things. She and her family invite friends and strangers without nearby family into their home for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner. “They come over and spend the holidays with us so that they won’t be alone. We basically adopt them into our family for the holidays,” she said.

So on Christmas morning, we take a moment out to remember all our family members who are no longer present. I see their faces and hear their laughter. Just saying their names and recalling a story or two about them brings a peace that is stored in times gone by, she said. Changed Circumstances But Still Giving In our present economy, some of you have fallen on tough times this year. Stacey Torres has found herself in this category, but is still determined to give to others. “This year is different for me, she says. “Newly divorced, not working in many months and caregiver to my mother, at first I thought, ‘What could I possibly give to anyone that would be of value?’ But I’ve decided to adopt a senior in my area and take baked goods to the various Head Starts. By not focusing on her circumstances, but instead on what she can do, Stacey is embodying the Christmas spirit.

Simply Sweet Shoppe and Second Story PlayHouse Owners Jill Zaniker, Bernie Szuhaj and Lynn Wiegand are involved in almost as many charitable events as they have candy in the store. As leaders of ADDBAC, these three have modeled and embraced the “Adding Back to the Community Together” motto of ADDBAC. Last year, in their first year of business, they gave over $6,000 in donations. Most of their charitable giving is focused on children.

In conjunction with Carmel High School, they are donating to the Carmel Cares: Project Uganda to raise money to build a school in Uganda. Simply Sweet also holds Support Your School days in which they donate back to the school a percentage of all purchases made that day. They participate in numerous other activities from silent auctions to gift baskets and a charity-of-the-month program. If you’re in the store, look for the boot by the cash register and throw in any extra change you have for their current project. In December all the change will go to Riley Hospital for Children. “We are trying to support the kids’ fundraising so they can give back as well. I just think there’s nothing better than empowering kids to learn that lesson early,” said Lynn Wiegand.

As the countdown to Christmas begins, let’s resolve this year to ditch any Ebenezer Scrooge attitudes and take our cue from our central Indiana friends, neighbors and businesses. As we reflect on the greatest “give back” of all … a babe in the manger … let us give out of our abundant blessings to others in return.

Getting started is the hardest part. We all know that just taking the initial leap is the most difficult part of the journey. Then there’s the decision of how to accomplish your goal. Should you take classes, tackle it yourself or maybe get a personal trainer? There are so many choices. Well, I’m here to try and make sense out of all this, and help you make a decision on what you want to do and where you want to do it. So let’s get started.

Close your eyes (well, not literally because then you can’t read this). Think about what makes you happy. Imagine you’re at a relaxing place. Deep breath in through the nose, exhale through the mouth. Sun salutation: inhale up, exhale lean back, inhale forward bend, relax inhale big step back into forward lunge, exhale. Front foot steps back into plank: hold. Slowly release, exhaling your entire body in a reverse push-up position to the floor, inhale push-up onto your elbows into modified cobra, exhale into downward dog, push the heels of your hands into the mat and away from your body. Welcome to Yoga.

Get ready, get set, and go! It’s bootcamp time. Feet on fire 30 seconds, GO! Shuffle-shuffle, two jumping jacks, run forward and back two times, 1-2-3 squat, 1-2-3 dive in the pool, lift those legs. Go again! Obstacle course: run to the line, ten jumping jacks, back peddle back, ten push-ups, high knees across the floor, feet on fire 30 seconds, Let’s go through two more times! You can do it! Push yourself. It’s only 30 seconds; anyone can do something for only 30 seconds!

Those are just two of several different types of fitness classes offered throughout Carmel and Geist. From beginner to advanced, relaxing to jolting, fun to serious, there is literally a class to fit everyone’s lifestyle and fitness goal. Whether you are ninety or nineteen, there is no age limit to working out and feeling good. Like anything though, your fitness routine should complement your level and ability. A few of the latest and trendy classes offered in the area are Yoga, Pilates, dance classes including Jazzercise and bootcamps. Below I will highlight each of these fitness workouts so you can decide what is best for you.

t’s that time of year again to start thinking about New Year’s resolutions. Some of us begin thinking ahead about what we want to accomplish, whether it be a personal goal or something job related. One of the top resolutions is to exercise and get into shape. And what’s the key ingredient to make this a success? You!

I

Let’s start with an oldie, but goodie, Yoga. Yoga has been around since the beginning of civilization, so they say. The word Yoga means “to unite or integrate” the body, mind and spirit. There are three structures of Yoga: exercise, breathing and meditation, Yoga is great for improving circulation and stimulating the mind. Melissa Webb, certified Yoga instructor for over seven years, says that Yoga benefits both the body and mind. “Working with yoga poses increases flexibility and strength, along with muscle tone and balance. Internally, Yoga poses help cleanse and nourish the various systems of the body, including the 8

nervous system and digestion,” she says.

a true military edge,” said Dave Desmarais, bootcamp instructor for the Y. “Starting at 5:15 a.m., we are always outside, rain or shine; hot or cold; snow or sleet.” Desmarais continued to say his class is not for the weak of mind or body. He starts the class with a 1 or 2 mile warm-up run, while carrying a weighted backpack and singing cadence.

Yoga is good for everyone. “Yoga is great for those who haven’t exercised much and who aren’t super motivated to ‘hit’ the gym,” Webb explains. “It is also good for those who have taken exercise ‘too’ far and need help to settle down, relax and stretch.” Another mind and body, low-impact fitness class is Pilates. Pilates started gaining popularity in the 1980’s and in the last ten years has spread like wild fire. Pilates has some similarities to Yoga such as individualized breathing techniques and proper posture, as well as getting your mind in tune with your body. Pilates generally consists of two types, mat work or equipment based Pilates, using an apparatus such as the reformer. However, Pilates is still different from Yoga because it focuses more on the core. “The core consists of a large and vast set of muscles,” explains Sean Bartram, owner of Core Pilates and Fitness in Carmel. “It includes muscles from mid-chest all the way to mid-thigh including muscles of the back, hips, legs and bottom, not just the abdominals.” Pilates creates a long, lean and limber body, Bartram added.

Trish Delaby, a Carmel resident and YMCA member, started bootcamp in the Spring of 2009 after she realized she would need to buy a bigger pair of jeans. She refused, got serious and has since dropped four pant sizes and is beyond where she thought she would be. “I love bootcamp,” Delaby laughed. “It is hard physically as well as mentally. You keep growing and extending yourself more than you would on your own.” When I asked her how she could get up at the crack of dawn, Delaby said, “I’m back home around 6:30, showered, drinking my coffee and waiting for the kids to get up. The time works perfect for a mom of two toddlers.” Delaby also included running and a nutrition plan in her daily routine which helped her achieve her goals.

Pilates mat work instructor for both Vibe Fitness and Lifestyle Family Fitness, Becki Bottoms says the number one reason people take Pilates is to get thin through the middle. “Pilates is a sequence of exercises that concentrate on the core of the body,” Bottoms reiterates. “Mat work Pilates is more difficult than using the reformer, but both are great Pilates workouts.” Sean Bartram is a certified Pilates Method Alliance instructor who opened his Pilates studio three years ago. With no more than three students per class, Bartram creates fun and diverse workouts that change every two or three sessions. Bartram utilizes Joseph H. Pilates (founder of Pilates) reformer machines for his Pilates classes. The reformer is a spring driven platform operated by a pulley system. “We’ve adapted and modified with the times going beyond what Joseph H. Pilates created,” said Bartram. “At Core Pilates we take the principles of Joseph Pilates and build upon them, moving with the times to create an exciting new form of Pilates driven exercise.”

Not all bootcamp classes are this extreme. Shurell Robinson, an ACE Certified Group Fitness and bootcamp instructor says, “My bootcamp class takes your heart rate through peaks and valleys, which increases your cardio endurance and lean muscle mass and decreases your

Having taken both Pilates and Yoga, here’s my two cents: Yoga is a great way to relax and regroup your mind and Pilates is a hard-core (no pun intended) workout that can really be challenging. In stark contrast to Yoga and Pilates, there are bootcamps. They’re tough, they’re crazy, and they’re worth every penny if you want a good, no, great workout. I have come to find that there are two types of bootcamp classes in the Carmel area: the extreme, military method and the more traditional classroom format. The YMCA in Fishers offers the Extreme Bootcamp class. “Our bootcamp is a little unusual; it has Carmel Community Newsletter

variety shows, Dancing with the Stars and So You Think You Can Dance, helped dance turn exercise. Most dance classes incorporate dance moves into short, 2-5 minute segments choreographed to up-beat, fun songs. Zumba integrates Latin dance moves, such as the Tango and Cha Cha, with Latin music. Other dance classes might focus more on hip-hop moves and music or even belly dancing.

Melissa Webb teaches Yoga at various studios in the Fishers/Geist area as well as in homes.

The next atCarmel.com business networking luncheon will be held on Thursday, December 10th from noon to 1:30 pm at Custom Floors in Fishers (11777 Exit 5 Parkway). We are asking every attendee to bring a donation for a local food pantry: canned goods, toiletries, and nonperishable food items.

“It is so much fun,” said Becky Ding, Carmel resident and regular at LA|Fitness’ Latin Impact dance class. “It makes time go by so fast and I just love the instructor.” Shantel Morris has been dancing for over 20 years and is a dance instructor at both the Fishers YMCA and LA|Fitness. “Dance is a good way to start if you haven’t been to a class in a while,” said Morris. “The nice thing, however, it is good for everyone … teens and seniors and at any size. There are no tools or gimmicks. Come as you are and do as much or as little as you want.”

(From Previous Page) body fat. I also offer three different levels (base moves, level two and extreme level 3), so there is a fit for everyone.” Robinson also says that interval workouts are so important for those who need to push through their plateaus.

This is one of my favorite types of classes. Dance classes are truly fun. I don’t consider myself that coordinated, and I keep coming back. In fact, one Monday morning I went to the gym and worked out. I went back that Monday afternoon just to dance. Call me crazy, but it was worth it! Jazzercise is another dance fitness program that is a fusion of jazz, dance, yoga, kickboxing, strength training and stretching. “Jazzercise incorporates a little bit of everything,” said Heidi Tumbarello, owner of Geist Jazz. “Jazzercise is a one hour class comprised of 30 minutes cardio and 30 minutes strength and stretching. We offer not only the traditional Jazzercise classes, but also a Body Sculpting class with no cardio and a Step Jazzercise class that utilizes step routines in the cardio portion.”

In my opinion, bootcamp classes are tough and challenging. They want to test your limits and they are great for those who want to burn fat and get their butts kicked. If you love to sweat, you’ll love bootcamp.

Most clubs have several different types of classes to choose from such as step aerobics, senior fitness, cycling, weight resistance, conditioning, water aerobics and kickboxing just to name a few.

Moving right along, we move to the notorious dance classes. You think it’s not for you? You’re probably wrong. Try it, you’ll like it! The popular TV reality/

Vibe also has a vast selection of unique classes, including several dance classes, some of which are taught to “live” music. “The one-on-one personal attention makes us unique,” explains Wood. “We cater to each person individually. McBride says there are three main factors in joining a gym: location, time and money. Anytime Fitness caters to all three factors by offering neighborhood locations at both Geist and Hazel Dell Crossing in Noblesville, 24-hour access and an extremely affordable rate of about $1 a day.

Fitness. Want just a Pilates or Yoga class, join Core Pilates or Vibe Fitness. Each club is unique in their own way, offering a little less or a little more. I can truly say there is a gym to fit everyone’s lifestyle, that’s because I’ve been a member of the YMCA, Lifetime Fitness, Five Seasons and now LA|Fitness. You can say I’ve gotten around. We are very lucky to live in an area that offers so many choices.

Mainstream gyms (or big box gyms) such as Lifetime Fitness, Cardinal Fitness and Lifestyle Fitness are more wellknown and are attended by many. So why are these clubs so popular? More than likely it’s because of their convenience. As a LA|Fitness member myself, I joined for a few reasons: 1. They have great classes, 2. They have child care, 3. It is affordable, and 4. It is close to home. Carmel resident Michelle West also says, “Convenience and price are the main reasons I joined Lifestyle Family Fitness. The Kids Zone was a must as well.”

Lifepointe Church first came together on Easter Sunday in 2005. Meeting in a rather unconventional space, which happens to be an office complex called Hamilton Crossing, Lifepointe invites the community of Carmel through the doors to a gathering of a real casual faith. I recently had the opportunity to talk to Josh Riedy, Youth Minister at Lifepointe, about the role Lifepointe is playing to the residents of Carmel and beyond.

This community of faith has also been actively involved in missions. Riedy tells me, “For the past 4 years, Lifepointe has partnered with International Impact Ministries to do a Vacation Bible School Mission trip in Jamaica.” He adds, “This coming February, a group from Lifepointe is heading back to Jamaica for a week of construction and service.” Lifepointe also has many other ministries of which the community can take advantage. For the little kids, Lifepointe has a dynamic nursery, preschool, and grade school program on Sunday mornings. The older kids in the community can take advantage of mission trips and other fun events happening all throughout the year. The adults at Lifepointe can attend Sunday school classes, breakfasts, and conferences. Lifepointe also has a biblical and authentic counseling program available to those in the Lifepointe community.

Riedy says that the mission of Lifepointe is to be “a place where people will find life through faith in Jesus.” When you sit down and examine this community of faith, you begin to understand that they are more about focusing on the

Heavy brows, eyes and jowls age the face. Opening the eyes with a browlift or eyelift takes years off and often reduces heaviness and fatigue. Jowls and “turkey gobblers” under the chin add apparent weight and 10-15 years of age to the face. Surgery is designed to turn back the clock without changing what you look like- a better, younger YOU. Healing requires one week of “down time””. Procedures can be done under sedation. Cost varies depending on the extent of surgery but ranges $5000-9000 (total). Dr. Catherine Winslow is one of the most experienced facial plastic surgeons in the country, and would be happy to consult with photo morphing to show you what changes are possible. Beware of the Muggles By Lori McDonough Most people have never heard of it. My family discovered it about three years ago and I cannot say enough wonderful things about it. It’s letterboxing, and if you’ve been looking for a way to spend some quality time with your family, you’ve just found it. So what exactly is letterboxing? It’s like a treasure hunt! You follow directional clues to find small boxes that are hidden all over the country! Inside you will find a notebook and a stamp that is typically handmade and represents the location where you f found it. That’s the treasure! Here’ Here’s how it works. We go to a letterboxing webs such as www.letterboxing.org or website ww www.atlasquest.com and get the clues which lead us to a letterbox in the city of our choice. Letterboxes are most often hidden i public places such as in parks, cemeteries, schoolyards and famous landmarks. Anyone can plant a letterbox and anyone can find them. We bring with us a compass, small notebook, ink pad and our own handmade stamp, ca carved from an art gum eraser, which represents our family and our letterboxing nickname. Most clues are very kid friendly, require the use of a simple compass, counting paces or steps, and rely heavily on landmarks in nature such as “a fallen tree or “a heart shaped rock. While looking for the letterbox, we are careful not to disturb the nature around it, and not to be seen

My son Griffin McDonough is proud of our found ound letterbox.

by others who aren’t familiar with letterboxing, also known as “muggles. Once we find our letterbox, we open it; stamp our stamp in their notebook and their stamp in our notebook. We record the date and the location where we found it, too. Our notebook is quickly becoming a treasured family memory book, reminding us of fun times spent together. The final step is putting the letterbox back where we discovered it and recording our find on the letterboxing website. We let our kids lead us on our letterboxing adventures. They love using the compass and solving the clues that are sometimes written in rhyme or riddle. We have letterboxed all over Indiana, exploring awesome parks and places we have never been before and finding letterboxes practically in our own backyard, too. We also letterbox whenever and wherever we go on vacation. We’ve even found a letterbox in Disney World! By far, what we love most about letterboxing is the time spent with our kids. To find something to do as a family that all three of our kids have fun doing is remarkable. Even our teenagers enjoy it! We leave the cell phones and video games at home. We head outdoors, enjoy the nature all around us and the small adventure that each letterbox delivers. Introduce your family to letterboxing; I dare you not to get hooked!

We record our letterbox find in our family notebook.

Holiday Luggage Tips

Lost or misplaced luggage, excess weight fees, and convenience are just some of the reasons why many travellers are opting to ship their luggage in lieu of checking it.

With most airlines charging passengers for checked bags and imposing restrictions for carry-ons, an increasing number of travelers are looking at alternatives for a more convenient, costeffective way to get their holiday gifts and luggage to their destination. The UPS Store® located at 1959 E. Greyhound Pass in Carmel is helping to ease travelers’ burdens by suggesting that travelers ship their luggage ahead.

shipping services,” said The UPS Store franchisee Gary Rapp. “There’s also been increased interest in packing services for items such as skis, golf clubs and fishing poles, items travelers would prefer to have waiting at their destination rather than lugging them around an airport.” In today’s world, people are looking for cost-effective and time saving ways to minimize the hassle of flying and dealing with lost or misplaced luggage. Add to that the new service fees for baggage which can really add up, especially for families with multiple bags to check. Rapp suggests the following tips if you do decide to ship your luggage:

“We’re seeing an increasing demand for our luggage

• If possible, put luggage in a box. Doing this helps protect the luggage and provides a suitable surface for the shipping label. It will also help avoid additional handling charges. • Another option, in some cases, is to forego the suitcase and place items directly in a box. This can minimize the chances of having to pay oversize or overweight charges. Be sure to pack an extra box, packaging tape and a return label and use them on your return trip. • By using a shipping option, you can track your luggage all the way to its destination via cell phones, PDAs or other web-enabled wireless devices. • Plan ahead. This allows you to choose a less expensive shipping option. • Because of the duties and taxes associated with international shipments, shipping luggage can be cost prohibitive. • Due to restrictions, hazardous materials such as colognes and perfumes, aerosol sprays, nail polish, and cigarette lighters can not be shipped via air. So if you’re looking for a way to beat the holiday hassles of traveling, you might want to consider shipping your luggage instead of checking it. Modern Day Treasure Hunts: Geocaching tion. Those who find the caches typically post replies and comments back onto the website. It’s funny to see what others had to go through to find the caches.

By Jean Wright From the minute my husband described Geocaching to my two boys and me, we were hooked. In essence, Geocaching is a high-tech way to go on a treasure hunt – anywhere, anytime. After punching in our home address on the official Geocaching website (www.geocaching.com), my husband quickly found several caches within a one mile radius of our home. Armed with a portable GPS, printouts of our destinations, which consisted of the GPS coordinates and cryptic descriptions of what we were to search for, we jumped on our bikes, donned our helmets and set off in search of who knows what.

Our Geocaching adventures have evolved since that first adventure. I have downloaded a Geocaching application onto my iPhone, which allows me to search for caches on the fly

Follow us on Twitter for daily news and updates Twitter.com/atCarmel

Our first cache location took us to a nearby utility box with small sewer pipes. Nearly 20 minutes later, we located the small pea size cache. You would have thought my boys had won the lottery as we carefully unscrewed the top, unrolled the very small piece of paper and saw the names of all the other Geocachers who had found the cache before us. We found a pencil (good thing my husband borders on being a pack rat), debated upon our team name, signed the log and carefully put it back into place before anybody saw us. There’s a whole world, literally, of Geocachers out there. Those who participate in this game are very careful to keep cache locations a secret. What fun would it be to reveal cache locations? It would be like telling somebody the ending to a movie. Caches come in all different sizes. Some only contain logs for you to sign while others ask you to leave a small trinket in exchange for one that’s in the cache. Caches can be found literally all over the world, including the ocean for those who scuba dive! There are even ‘traveling’ caches which require you to take and hide the cache in a different location than where you first found it.

and since I’m typically not carrying a portable GPS in my back pocket, it serves that function also. My boys collect ‘trinkets’ to leave behind and we now take small snacks since we’re venturing farther and farther away from our house. What hasn’t changed is that we’re getting exercise, spending quality time together while working as a family all in the name of FUN!

Anybody can hide a cache and post it on the website but if you do, you are responsible to maintain and manage your cache, making sure it is findable and in good condiCarmel Community Newsletter

Religious holidays, birthdays, school day cancellations and summer vacations are eagerly anticipated by most children. For children of divorced parents, however, these times are often viewed with feelings of confusion, ambivalence, anger, and abandonment. Unless divorced parents have consciously and lovingly placed their children’s well-being above their own, their innocent children may dread “family” celebrations that do not include both parents. One parent “family” celebrations are often recurring reminders of the traumatic, life-altering moment when they were first told that mommy and daddy “fell out of love” and won’t be living together any more.

The unresolved marital battles of parents’ unhappy marriages can easily resurface when divorced parents seek equal time with their children. In hostile custody situations, the court may order parents to see therapists or mediators to work out their differences. But, involving outsiders in personal family matters is time consuming, expensive, and rarely makes either party happy. Furthermore, it can be an additional cross for children to carry when they are, again, involuntarily taken to a counselor’s office and expected to share their feelings without hurting one of their loved parents. Although divorcing parents often reassure their children that they will forever love them, the children may remember looking at their parents’ happy wedding pictures. They know that mommy and daddy made similar promises to each other a long time ago and now, for some inexplicable reason, they stopped loving each other. Children of divorce need frequent reassurances that they will always be loved by both parents, never abandoned, and that they are not the reason for the divorce. Gently, children of divorce also need to learn that their childhood fantasies of someday seeing daddy or mommy move back home will only happen in their dreams or in delightful wish-fulfilling movies such as “The Parent Trap.” Children of divorce heal better when divorced parents choose to focus on the wounds of their children, instead of their own. What better affirmation can children experience than to know that even though mommy and daddy are now divorced, they would marry each other all over again just to have the wonderful children they have. So, too, may divorced parents always be guided by heartfelt images of their children when they are negotiating how much time they will share in loving, guiding, and cherishing their precious children.

Too often, children of divorce feel that they are like the family pet when they are told, without discussion, when, where, and with whom they are going to be spending their free time. All children of divorce have been involuntarily subjected to something painful beyond their comprehension and beyond their control. When it comes to dividing their time with each parent, they may again feel helpless as

Where there are children, there is a way. Happy Holidays. Lawrence B. Lennon, Ph.D. is a clinical psychologist and clinical director of the Family Bonding and Attachment Center of Lennon & Associates, P.C.
