HATTIE’S COFFEE HOUSE OWNER HOPES TO PROVIDE A PLACE FOR COMMUNITY CONNECTION Writer / Michelle Kaufman Photographer / Michaela Hoover
For years, Kirra Sutton dreamed of opening up a coffee shop. On November 18 that dream came true, when Hattie’s Coffee House opened. Hattie’s is located in a 112-year-old renovated farmhouse on Main Street in Whitestown. “I love coffee and I just think it’s a beverage that brings the community together,” Sutton said. “I’m super community driven. [Hattie’s] sits kind of in between the historic part of our town and all the new development, so I hope it is a bridge of sorts for people to come together.” Hattie’s coffee is roasted on-site from the Daily Grind. In addition to a wide variety of coffee drinks, tea, hot chocolate and other beverages are available. “I am completely overjoyed by the community’s response,” Sutton 6 | February 2024 | TownePost.com
said. “We’ve gotten an overwhelming sense that people were ready for this. People wanted this and it’s filling a need in the area. I’m so excited that we get to be the people who bring a coffee shop here.” Hattie’s is named after the wife of the town’s founder. Sutton says the shop is a love letter to her community. “We’re excited that people from the community are going to enjoy Hattie’s too, but there’s no doubt in my mind that this home and this space during this time is for Whitestown,” Sutton said. “I wanted it to be connected to the town.” Hattie’s has an upstairs space available for businesses, community organizations or other groups to rent for $25 an hour. Coffee and water are included, and the space includes a conference table and smart TV for presentations. A baby shower has also been held at Hattie’s.

In the heart of our vibrant community lies a unique avenue for change and empowerment – Women of Impact Boone County. This dynamic group, woven from threads of generosity and shared vision, holds the potential to reshape the landscape of our community for the better. Joining is not just an invitation; it’s a commitment to fostering a community where women’s voices resonate in the corridors of philanthropy. The collective power of this women’s giving circle lies in the synergy of diverse perspectives, experiences, and resources coming together to address
pressing issues right here in our home of Boone County. As a member, you’re not just making a donation; you’re actively shaping the destiny of our community. “The impact is tangible and meaningful – your contribution, combined with those of other like-minded women, has the potential to create a ripple effect, influencing positive change in areas throughout our community. It’s not just about giving; it’s about creating a legacy of shared values and collective impact that transcends individual contributions,” says
Since its 2017 inception, Women of Impact Boone County has awarded over $300,000 to local nonprofits. The 2024 grants supported organizations addressing child abuse prevention, domestic violence, and basic needs for families: Sylvia’s Child Advocacy Center, Mental Health America of Boone County, Indiana Diaper Bank, and Indy Hygiene Hub. While wememberspool dollars to award impactful grants annually, the needs extend beyond that. “That’s why we invite more women to join – the more members, the larger the grants.” - Reagan. Joining is not just a philanthropic endeavor; it’s an opportunity to connect with inspiring women, fostering collaboration, mentorship, and shared learning. Your presence adds not just value but a powerful voice to the collective symphony of positive change.

HEALTHY LIVING BEGINS WITH A HEALTHY HEART PUTTING HEART AND VASCULAR HEALTH FIRST AT WITHAM HEALTH SERVICES Story & Photography Provided
At Witham Health Services, we know firsthand that healthy living begins with a healthy heart. That’s why our statewide network of cardiologists, vascular specialists and primary care physicians are committed to delivering the most comprehensive cardiac care possible, from standard preventative options to heart catheterizations to the most advanced treatments resulting from heart failure or transplantation. Witham’s state-of-the-art cardiology suite features both Witham Heart Partners provider offices and Witham Cardiac and Vascular Testing, and is located on the main Lebanon campus at 2705 North Lebanon Street in the North Pavilion. Our cath lab is located within the hospital. “We believe that quality of care and a person’s longevity can be enhanced by a one-on-one relationship with their own local cardiologist,” said Dr. Ed Harlamert, chief cardiologist of Witham Heart Partners and director of cardiology at Witham Health Services. “Our cardiac suite combines hightech cardiac testing with convenient access to your cardiologist. These changes build improved efficiency and trust when you come for your cardiac care.” Harlamert is an experienced interventional cardiologist who has helped an estimated
10,000 patients requiring cardiac and vascular procedures. “Our mission is to provide exceptional cardiac care locally,” said Dr. Zulfiqar Mirza, co-director of cardiology and director of research at Witham. Mirza is an experienced interventional cardiologist who has been a high-volume operator for coronary, peripheral vascular and structural heart cases. He has over a decade of experience in complex cardiovascular interventional procedures and research. Our care team is currently involved in multiple international research studies aimed at improving the care and treatment of cardiac patients. Nurse Practitioners Christina Cohee and Bethany Reynolds, along with the office team, work closely with the physicians to provide personalized care in all cardiac aspects. They assist our physicians with transitioning patients from inpatient care to outpatient care. Witham Cardiac and Vascular Testing offers advanced CT scanning in combination with nuclear medicine cardiac imaging called SPECT/CT, to better diagnose the entire spectrum of heart disease, from mild to severe levels of disease. “Our $49 Heart
CT Score is a quick and painless, noninvasive scan that can detect heart disease at its earliest and most treatable stages, aided by the best technology around - our 256-slice CT scanner,” said Harlamert. “Many times a person knows there have been past heart problems in their family, but for many reasons they may have never seen a heart doctor or they have never had the heart talk with their PCP. Starting at about age 45 the risk of having a heart attack starts to climb. A person can request a heart CT scan on their own that could uncover the beginnings of heart disease. This could change the way they eat, exercise, and may prompt them to talk to their doctor about next steps. Ultimately heart disease is common and now very treatable. We should get checked out rather than wait for something bad to happen.” If you are age 40 or older with a family history of heart or vascular disease, or if you have other risk factors like high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity or smoking, the cardiologists and staff at Witham Heart Partners and Witham Cardiac and Vascular Testing are experts in heart care with a goal of assisting you in improving your heart and vascular health. EVERYTHING’S WORKING OUT
FIT IS THE FOCUS AT EXERCISE INC Writer / Michelle Kaufman Photographer / Justin Sicking
The team at Exercise Inc is helping each client increase their strength, through one weekly 20-minute workout. Founder Bo Railey has been a personal trainer since 1993, and brought the training method, called the SuperSlow program, to Zionsville 15 years ago. “I like to help people and personal training is a great way to help people change their lives,” Railey said. “Your physical, mental and spiritual health are all very intimately connected. When you help somebody improve their physical health, you improve every aspect of their life. That’s why I enjoy personal training.”
“My client doesn’t have to think too much,” Morris said. “They just have to go in there and perform and give it all they’ve got. It’s a high-intensity workout. You’ll do about five machines within the session to address all the major muscle groups of the body.” There’s no music playing and no mirrors on the walls, and trainers wear dress shirts and slacks. “When you go back in the room, the most you’ll have is three to four trainers at one time with their client,” said Morris, who just started his 19th year with the business. “We have our machines and we’re there to get the job done. We call it your personal, private, professional environment.”
Clients range from teenagers, including high school athletes, to adults in their 90s. In addition to the workouts, clients also receive a nutrition plan, regardless of what “There’s a number of reasons why people their goals are. CARMEL RESIDENT OFFERS SKIN CARE EXPERTISE THE SKIN IS THE BODY’S LARGEST ORGAN — AND CARMEL RESIDENT DR. MELANIE KINGSLEY BELIEVES EVERYONE NEEDS TO HAVE AN EFFECTIVE SKIN CARE REGIMEN. However, for a long time, she couldn’t bring herself to wholeheartedly endorse any products out there. So, the board-certified and fellowship-trained dermatologist founded SkinTherapyMD, which operates out of Zionsville and manufactures her own formulations for treating the most common skin care concerns. “Throughout my career as a dermatologist, the two most common concerns I heard from patients were about acne and how to slow or reverse the aging process,” Dr. Kingsley said. “After years of trying different products and various treatment regimens, I just wasn’t satisfied with the options available. That’s why I created the CAMU skin care lines — natural, high-quality skin care products that are effective, simple to use, free of unnecessary chemicals and gentle on the skin.”
by combining the most effective ingredients into one formulation to give patients the desired results. “Both regimens consist of two simple steps — an exfoliating pad to help remove the dead skin cells and allow the nutrients into the skin; and then a serum to deliver and seal in the essential ingredients,” Dr. Kingsley said. “It is the power duo.” The CAMU ClearSkin Bundle is now available with the serum and wipes — with or without a cleanser. And the CAMU Anti-Aging Bundle is now available with the resurfacing pads and moisturizing serum — with or without the gentle hydrating cleanser. “It’s been so rewarding developing this skin care line and seeing the benefits it has brought to so many people,” Dr. Kingsley said.
These products use ingredients Dr. Kingsley found to be most effective across nearly 20 years of treating patients.
Dr. Kingsley stands by these products professionally and personally, offering them not only to patients but also using them to treat friends, family and herself.
CAMU ClearSkin is specifically targeted toward acne-prone patients with oily skin, clogged pores or inflamed acne bumps. The product line helps treat acne, exfoliate the skin and seal in hydration while promoting a healthy skin barrier.
SkinTherapyMD is continually updating formulations and adding products for all skin types, which are available for customers to purchase as needed or on a monthly subscription basis. These products can be found online at skintherapymd.com or in local medical spas and dermatology offices as they expand throughout 2024.
CAMU Anti-Aging helps slow and reverse the signs of sun damage and aging, lightens brown spots and softens fine lines and wrinkles. It also helps adult acne, rosacea and keratosis pilaris and reduces the visibility of pores. Both the CAMU ClearSkin and CAMU Anti-Aging lines remove several steps from your skin care routine

RADIANT SKIN AESTHETIC, WELLNESS & BEAUTY STUDIO TAKES A WHOLE-BODY APPROACH TO AGING GRACEFULLY Writer / Christy Heitger-Ewing Photographer / Michaela Hoover
18 | February 2024 | TownePost.com
A
s we begin a new year, Kayla Trammel, owner of Radiant Skin Aesthetic, Wellness & Beauty Studio, is embracing a whole-body approach to aging gracefully, by combining aesthetics services with functional and integrative wellness services, thereby providing an elevated, comprehensive experience for clients. Trammel, a registered nurse, started as a one-woman operation in 2017 until May 2020, at which point she opened a 1,200-square-foot storefront in Zionsville and hired three additional employees. Over time, their staff grew to a 10-person team. When she first moved into this location, there were four separate suites, but as other tenants have moved out, she has built out her business. As of this month, Radiant Skin takes up the whole building. “I believe in doors opening and closing at just the right time,” says Trammel, noting that their medical director is board certified in functional medicine. “We’ve been waiting for the right time to do this, and all the pieces came together now.” On the aesthetics side, they offer a wide range of skin, beauty and wellness treatments to women and men, including medical grade facials as well as skin and laser treatments, from tightening to resurfacing, helping with pigmentation. They also do injectables such as neurotoxin, and fillers and beauty services such as lashes and semipermanent makeup. TownePost.com | February 2024 | 19
Popular treatments include radiofrequency microneedling, laser treatments such as BBL/Moxi/ Halo and HydraFacial. In addition to utilizing stateof-the-art techniques and technologies, the team stays up to date on developments in the aesthetic industry. Radiant Skin is now a one-stop shop for beauty and health, as they’ve added a wellness facility to their practice. “We can create this beautiful healthy skin, but if your body is tearing down on the inside, everything that we’re doing on the outside isn’t going to last as long,” says Trammel, who notes that internal inflammation accelerates aging. This is why it’s vital to address both internal and external health.
Common complaints Trammel hears from clients include fatigue, brain fog, acne, decreased sex drive and inability to lose weight. A lot of people don’t want to talk about how they’re feeling, but they’ll write it down. Then there are those clients who are relieved upon being heard once they talk.
During a one-hour complimentary consultation with one of their two nurse practitioners, clients share their goals, talk about their lifestyle, and provide an in-depth checklist of their symptoms. In addition, they’ll do a full-panel blood workup and possibly additional testing based upon the individual. Together, the client and Radiant Skin team will create a game plan that may or may not tie in with the aesthetics side.
“I’ve had clients tell me that they felt like they were going crazy because when they shared with their doctor how they were feeling, their doctor didn’t listen,” Trammel says. “Sometimes prescribed medications put a Band-Aid on the problem or even exacerbate it. If, however, you pinpoint the root cause, you can really transform someone’s life.”
“What’s going on internally reflects on the outside and vice versa,” Trammel says. “You may initially be focused just on aesthetics, but then when you start checking off other things, you may realize that it’s smart to take a look on what’s going on inside too.” Radiant Skin offers hormone replacement therapy, medial weight loss, vaginal rejuvenation, and intravenous drips. They also offer peptides, which can help with brain, heart, skin and gut health. In addition, they offer ozone therapy, which can aid in reducing inflammation and acute pain. Down the road they’ll do joint injections to help with arthritis and pain. 20 | February 2024 | TownePost.com
It can be like a puzzle trying to figure out what’s going on inside someone’s body because everything correlates - the brain, the gut and the skin. People appreciate not only becoming educated about their health, but also building and maintaining that relationship with the people who take care of them. Sometimes in western medicine, insurance dictates the amount of time a physician can spend with their patient. As a result, patients feel rushed and inconsequential. “It’s impossible to develop a relationship with someone in a 15-minute appointment,” Trammel says. “You need time together to
Relax your brain.
establish trust.” This is where that initial consult comes into play. You may think you know what’s going on, but you don’t. For instance, extreme fatigue may be due to a hormonal imbalance. Trammel emphasizes that functional medicine does not take the place of traditional medicine. Ideally, they go hand in hand. “A woman going through menopause doesn’t want to be told to suck it up and deal with it, nor should she have to,” Trammel says. “There are options and we want to educate women on those options.” For the team at Radiant Skin, it’s been about relationships right from the start. “People say we make them feel like family, like we really care, and that’s because we do,” Trammel says. “When you walk through our doors, you’re not just another paying client. We’re here to focus on you.”

CARDON AND ASSOCIATES ANNOUNCES COPPER TRACE EXPANSION $8.6 MILLION PROJECT MORE THAN DOUBLES ASSISTED LIVING APARTMENT Story and Photography Provided
Senior living management company CarDon & Associates is proud to announce an $8.6 million expansion of its Westfield community, Copper Trace, located on the northeast corner of 146th Street and Ditch Road at 1250 West 146th Street. The complex opened in 2015 with 36 assisted-living apartments as well as four neighborhoods, each with 26 skilled nursing suites. The first phase of the complex cost $19 million, with a 116,000-square-foot building on approximately 16 acres. Planning for the addition began in July of 2022 with construction starting in late September of 2023. Architectural and interior design firm Studio Three Design developed the look of the expansion, while long-running renovation company Summit Construction is overseeing the building 22 | February 2024 | TownePost.com
process. The expansion will more than double the number of assisted-living apartments, with the 40 new units consisting of 27 onebedroom, six large one-bedroom, and seven two-bedroom residences. “This expansion will comfortably accommodate the growing needs of seniors in Westfield and surrounding communities,” said CarDon President and CEO Kent Rodgers. “It offers opportunities for seniors who want to remain self-sufficient with the assurance of assistance when needed, as well as individuals coming out of shortterm rehabilitation who might benefit from assisted-living care.” Other benefits of the expansion include such new amenities as a renovated dining
room, coffee bar, fitness room and new lounge/activity area. This will add 37,500 square feet to the main campus building. The assisted-living apartments are expected to be open and available by late summer 2024. ABOUT CARDON & ASSOCIATES

BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT
RENEWAL HEALTH and well-being,” Reilly said. “The name Renewal Health reflects my desire to help people move from our conventional health care approach, which treats chronic disease - usually in a silo - to treating the person in a holistic manner and not just as someone with a given illness.”
Writer / Michelle Kaufman Photographer / Krystal Dailey
For more than 20 years, Mary J. Reilly, MD, FACEP, DABOM, IFMCP served patients as an emergency physician. Reilly was known as the doctor who would spend extra time listening and talking to patients who might have needed that more than additional testing. Through her work, she saw opportunities where the health care system could do better and developed a desire to improve patient quality of life with a different approach. In August Reilly opened Renewal Health in Zionsville. The business name reflects Reilly’s desire to treat people in a holistic manner and, as the practice’s motto runs, “Taking you from sick care to well care.” “I opened this practice because I feel like I
can offer a lot to people to improve not only their lifespan, but their health span,” Reilly said, adding that telehealth appointments are available after initial patient visits. “I want to help people discover what good health looks like to them and then make a plan to get them there.” Renewal Health offers weight loss and functional medicine services - two areas where Reilly has spent the last several years training and getting certified. Reilly’s approach to both groups of patients is holistic in nature with a focus on five areas: sleep, diet or nutrition, emotional health, exercise or movement, and pharmacotherapy and supplements.
Patients start with an initial consultation with Reilly, which lasts from 90 minutes to two hours. Patients go through a body composition and metabolism test as well as an exam. From there, Reilly focuses on a personalized patient experience and drafts a treatment plan. She works with individuals on areas like food, sleep and emotional health. Reilly also has her CrossFit L1 certification and offers strength training programs. “I feel like I’m seeing a really great variety of people right now, from the person who wanted to make sure that they were as healthy as they could be to the person who had recovered from cancer to the people that come to see me for weight loss,” Reilly said. “This is really fantastic for me to be able to follow people in time, and see the change that they’re making and how their hard work pays off.”
“Functional medicine takes a comprehensive approach to prevention, health,

RIDE RIGHT GET PEDALING WITH EBOOM ELECTRIC BIKES Writer / Matt Keating Photographer / Krystal Dailey
Lee Ann McKay, owner and general manager of eBoom Electric Bikes, says that when she opened her business, she was just hoping to keep the doors open and have some fun. She has successfully accomplished this with the help of her co-owner and loyal customers. “Robin Coffman is the other 50% owner of eBoom Electric Bikes,” McKay says. “She works full time at Eli Lilly but helps at the shop more during the summer weekends. She is the behind-the-scenes co-owner.” Customers have been satisfied with eBoom Electric Bikes.

but with superpowers when needed”
McKay has been riding, selling and servicing electric bikes for a long time.
“There are hundreds of electric bike brands on the market right now,” she says. “We call many of them that are sold only online ‘one and done’ e-bikes. This is because when not if, but when - they stop working, the customer has no one to contact and talk to, and 90% of the time we can’t get electric parts for the bikes. So once these break down, you’re done.”
“Personally, I have been riding bikes all my life,” she says. “When I was 15, I received a Schwinn Varsity 10-speed for my birthday. It was green and the best gift ever. Since I couldn’t legally drive yet, I rode that bike everywhere. I grew up in downtown Madison, Indiana, along the Ohio River. If I wanted to go to swim practice, I rode my bike up the hill to the pool. If I wanted to go to softball that evening, I rode my bike to the field up the hill. I even rode my bike to driver’s ed class. The high school was up the hill.”
“We opened our doors for sales in May 2017,” McKay says. “It was scary at the time since no one had really heard about electric bikes. We had many people come into the shop and call us cheaters, and would not want to try an electric bike. They were afraid “It’s interesting how people are now willing if they tried, it might convert them - lots of to try riding their bikes to many places laughs.” around the area because they have electric bikes,” she continues. “It builds confidence “We are a boutique business that Robin for the hesitant rider. McKay says she can do some maintenance and repairs on bikes, but she leaves the work up to her talented Service Manager Brandon Hardin at eBoom.
McKay notes that retail shops like eBoom carefully select brands that are known for quality. “They have sales reps and technicians who we have a business relationship with, and that helps us better service our customers,” McKay says. eBoom Electric Bikes also sells and repairs all types of bikes, not just electric. “We are a full-service bike repair shop,” McKay says. “Brandon Hardin, our service manager, has built a nice team of mechanics who are all riders. A bike is a bike, so to
speak. Even when you repair or tune up an electric bike it still has the same basic components of a regular bike. However, since day one, we also repair and maintain most electric bike parts, so we’re very familiar with what works and what doesn’t.” McKay says she has a great team. “I definitely want to mention my wonderful team of employees,” she says. “eBoom would not be successful without them. Brandon Hardin, our service manager, has a natural talent in diagnosing and fixing electric bikes. He is also a talented bike mechanic. He enjoys talking to customers and helping them with the mechanics of their bikes.” McKay also praises the rest of the staff. “Sean Kenemore is our store manager,” she says. “He has been with us for several years, starting as a bike mechanic. Sean is very knowledgeable about our bike brands, about e-bikes, bikes and riding in general.
customers.”
He doesn’t own a car and rides his electric road bike as transportation. Sean has helped hundreds of customers find their perfect e-bike.”
The business moved to Zionsville last May after outgrowing their previous Whitestown space.
“This spring we will start offering electric bike rentals from our shop,” McKay continues. “These will be mainly ridden on the Big 4 Trail in Boone County, and we’ll offer some other fun routes in the Zionsville area. Details will be forthcoming on our website and on Facebook in late March 2024. We will be doing more community group rides and events this year. We’re also doing some fun events with the Zionsville Parks and Recreation Department. This includes an event for the upcoming eclipse on April 8. We’re also offering a group ride ending in Mulberry Fields to watch the big event. There will be food trucks, music and lots of fun.
“We absolutely love our new shop space in downtown Zionsville,” McKay says. “It’s a great place to have a retail business. The residents are super nice and supportive as well as our fellow merchants. We also have nice spaces to test ride e-bikes with our

McKay adds that Rusty Keen joined the team this past summer as a bike mechanic. He also works in sales. “Rusty brings great biking knowledge and lots of enthusiasm about the bike world,” she says. “Rusty started the riding group in Whitestown called the Moontown Cycling Group.”

TERRIFIC TRESSES
NO LABEL STUDIO SALON’S BUSINESS CONCEPT IS AS DISTINCT AS ITS SERVICES Writer / Renee Larr Photographer / Krystal Dailey
When Rio White opened No Label Studio Salon in Zionsville in 2017, she wanted it to be a place where everyone feels welcome. She wanted clients to understand that it doesn’t matter if you’re a stay-at-home mom, a mother and chief executive officer, or a 16 year old who saved all her money to get her hair styled. Everyone would be welcome, with no labels attached. “I wanted to make everyone feel good about themselves when they came in, no matter who they were,” White says. “At the time there was also a product line that was very popular and had no label. It was visually very simplistic and I loved that idea.” She moved No Label to its new location on Main Street on October 2023. White and her staff outgrew their previous location, precipitating the move. She says the salon team prides itself on training stylists through an apprenticeship program, with pricing based on a tiered system. “Our stylist tier system is based on knowledge and education rather than just experience,” White says. “No one cares if you have 20 years of experience if you’re not a good stylist. At No Label it’s about skillsets and demand. I feel like I’m changing the culture of rewarding people for being a go-getter, pushing boundaries and receiving more education, versus just how long you’ve been a stylist.” No Label goes beyond the basic men’s, women’s and children’s haircuts. They also offer extensive hair color services, blowouts and five different types of extensions. The salon also provides premier hair care products, including an in-house, custom product line.
28 | February 2024 | TownePost.com
“We were hearing that many of our clients were driving all across Indianapolis to go to blowout bars, so we opened our own here in the salon and it’s the first in Zionsville,” White says. “We offer three different memberships with competitive pricing. It’s much easier access for our clients and more affordable.” White says she’s started specializing in scalp health with the help of an in-depth microscope. She says they can offer recommendations for those with hair loss and other scalp issues. She says she’s seeing more customers losing hair after using popular weight loss medications. White says No Label is disrupting the status quo of hair salons. She also says she wants to educate clients about using caution when using celebrity Instagram photos to inspire their hair desires. “We hold training and education to a high standard here, and our pricing reflects that,” White says. “We also see many clients coming

White says her standards for her stylists and the salon are incredibly high, but she doesn’t want potential clients to think No Label is out of budget for anyone. She says that’s why the tiered system for her stylists is effective, because it works within every budget. No Label Studio Salon is located at 640 South Main Street, Suite 100 in Zionsville.
