Watch Us Farm, a private non-profit organization located at 9906 East 200 South in Boone County, has a strong connection with Carmel and other nearby communities. The goal of the farm is to provide high functioning developmental and intellectual disabled adults with vocational training and jobs while in a supportive environment. Since it was founded in 2019 by Zionsville residents Janice Agarwal, a physical therapist, and her husband Dr. David Agarwal, who specializes in diagnostic radiology, the facility has quietly grown and expanded. “We are only two miles away from the county border and more than 50% of our adults are from the Carmel and Westfield area,” Agarwal says. “In fact, over half our board members are from Carmel. Carmel High School does an amazing job with special needs students. Our goal is to reach high school graduates or those who age out of public school that society has left out.”

In the past year, job opportunities have expanded from farming, weeding and selling produce at local farmers markets. Some participants create greeting cards that are sold in local shops and can be purchased in large batches by special order. There is a car detailing department that offers needed service to the community, too. Textiles produced by the farm’s weaving looms are available in nearby shops and have recently gained international recognition by

“Now that COVID has [slowed down], a few companies are starting to talk with us,” Agarwal says. “Our aim is to gain employment for our adults either on site or in a business facility. Our card and textile program has been successful. People love to buy local. It was so nice to be recognized by getting the textile grant from New Zealand. There are several ways to support Watch Us Farm. Donations can be given through their secure website. Volunteers are needed to help out on projects and to head up teams for adults working throughout the community. A fundraiser, Dinner at Dusk, will be held on the farm on September 25. Tickets are $100 and will be available on the organization’s website in the near future. Highlights of the event will be an auction and sponsor tables.

Watch Us Farm eventually hopes to acquire more land and buildings as it expands. Hoop houses, a version of a greenhouse, are now being constructed on the farm which will extend the growing season plus the number of outdoor jobs and training opportunities available, no matter what the weather is. An added advantage to the structures is the minimalization of sensory issues, such as environmental noises, that autistic adults have with being outside. Additional buildings will be needed for manufacturing job training and onsite work.

TIMOTHY STEELE’S JOURNEY ON THE ROAD TO INDY

From an early age, the compass in Timothy Steele’s North Star has been gently directing everyone’s attention to auto racing. As a toddler, he only played with matchbox cars that had a number or a stripe on it, he designed race tracks out of chalk so that he could race his Big Wheel and pop it up on two wheels. Then when it rained that meant it was time for a new track with a different shape. As he hit the ripe old age of four, he was beginning to time his laps. Parents Robert and Kim Steele knew that this was his focus and as they continued to invite him to try new activities, he continued coming back to the race cars. Over the next few years, he continued to change the track layout after each rainstorm. Eventually, he wore down the plastic tires on the Big Wheel and it broke, rendering his pre-school racing days over. Sometimes it is hard to see a message in plain sight. But one day, family friend Kenny Mikesell
stopped by and saw Timothy in action and he offered to let him drive one of his race karts at the Ben Hur Speedway in Crawfordsville, which is a 1/3-mile dirt oval track. Eventually, Robert and Kim accepted the invitation. Timothy drove 60 mph like he had been waiting his whole life for the invitation. When the session ended he continued driving. “We were thinking that he just missed the cue to come in, everyone laughed as he kept going, but actually the brakes failed and he was unable to slow down enough to enter the pits,” Robert says. Rather than fear all they saw was pure joy. Plans for a quick test drive turned into an opportunity to stay and race the kart. Happy to accept the invitation, Timothy calmly responded, “Sure, but can you do something about the brakes?” His brakes were fixed, he entered the race and finished in 5th place. weekend was over, I thought, ‘this was fun, I want to do this more!’” Now the North Star was shining brightly, and it seemed that they had found their answer. He was only 10 years old. After several years, Timothy had more success and became more competitive. So Robert reached out to IndyCar and Formula One Race Car legend, Derek Daly to ask him for guidance. Daly arrived and brought Canadian National Champion kart racer Garett Grist. It seems that Timothy knew that he was ready to move off the dirt oval and race on asphalt road courses, so Daly offered to set up a test drive at Whiteland Raceway Park. With the help of the Indybased Top Kart race team, Daly set up the drive and Timothy loved everything about the turns and the grip of the asphalt. Knowing that Timothy was becoming stronger and interested in competing at the next level, Robert spoke with Daly and they talked about the expense. As a small business owner with a young family, Robert expressed his concerns about cost.

“You need to find a way because Timothy is really good,” Daly said. Daly was equally enthused about Timothy’s work ethic, attitude and especially his “willingness to ask a simple, yet important question, ‘What can I do to get better?’” In the interim, Robert established a small business around Timothy. “We found a way to race competitively on a limited budget,” Robert says. “And one of the ways that we do that was to drive used karts.” In a world of big budgets, big sponsors and expensive new equipment, the Steele family has put their investment in a secret weapon, their friend Graham Quinn who was a race engineer for Andretti Autosport and is now IMSA LMP3 Team Manager. Quinn advises Timothy on the art and science of data, they watch on-board videos, and he coaches Timothy on his driving technique. The strategy seems to be working. Quinn has been instrumental in the development of his race craft over the

last four years. In that time, “Timothy has moved from mid-pack to lead pack, and he’s won many races thanks to Graham’s effort,” Robert says. “He is forever trying to be better,” Daly adds. “He watches, listens and studies every aspect of the sport to give himself an opportunity to become the best he can be. He’s in the unusual position that I think he could become a successful driver or an engineer. He’s a great example of someone who stretches for what might be possible.”

In the spring of 2020, when the rest of the world was scouring the aisles for toilet paper and searching the web for sourdough starters, Scott Buchner discovered PROSE Nails Boutique, a new, nationwide franchise that offers manicures and pedicures with licensed nail salon artists who provide a pampering experience. The more Buchner researched, the more excited he got about the idea of bringing this healthy, safe, beautiful nail boutique to Hoosiers. The Franchise embraces a Membership Model that invites clients to pay a monthly membership fee for Unlimited nail treatments,
combining mani and pedi treatments. Members can also use their Membership at any PROSE Boutique nationwide (there are currently 15 locations). “This concept for nails is something that’s new and fresh to Indiana and frankly to America on a broad-level,” Buchner says. This location, which opens this summer in Zionsville, will be the 16th to open and the first one in Indiana. Located within the Shoppes at Weston Pointe at 10895 N. Michigan Road, PROSE shares a brand-new building with Eat The Frog Fitness and Club Pilates.

Boutique General Manager Suzanne Peterson is eager to build the brand and share it with the community. “I’m into clean self-care, and that’s what this franchise is all about — a commitment to healthy, clean nails,” Peterson says. “People are paying a lot more attention right now as to what they are putting in and on their bodies. That’s why every product that we have in the Boutique is vegan friendly.” PROSE Nails provides gel polish and dip. They do not provide acrylics because of the toxic chemicals and fumes. All of their services and products nourish, renew and inspire. As crazy as it might seem to open a new business during a pandemic, the timing actually worked out great because Buchner was given the opportunity of building it out COVID-safe from the get-go. “As opposed to piecemealing plexiglass and basically putting duct tape on a fire hose to address COVID, we were able to build it hypersterile and super clean, making it safe for our members,” he says. Many members who have signed up told Peterson that they haven’t gotten their nails done since the start of the pandemic. But due to the company’s commitment to cleanliness, they feel safe coming to PROSE Nails. “One of the best parts about this presale process is that it put us in a unique position to build relationships with our future customers before we even open,” Peterson adds. “I’ve had conversations that have lasted 30 or 40 minutes where we talk about everything — our dogs, our kids, our lives; that’s really cool to be able to build those relationships before we even open our doors.” “We gravitated toward this specific location because our co-tenants care about health and hygiene, just like we do,” says Buchner, who loved the location as it serves the greater Zionsville area as well as Carmel and other parts of the northside of Indy. Nail salons, for the most part, are a fragmented market without a lot of consistency, but that’s not the case at PROSE Nails. “Outside of our Membership model, we’re also going to bring consistency through the form of technology with our app where clients can choose their artist, the time of day and day of the week that works best for them,” Buchner says. “We’re looking to provide an experience, not so much a service,” Peterson adds. “We’re not about getting people in and tossing them out the door as fast as we can. We want people to relax, have a beverage and enjoy themselves!” Another aspect that differentiates PROSE Nails from other nail services is the fact that they cater to families. “We have a lot of family members who have already signed up — a mix of mothers and daughters, mothers and grandmothers & mothers and spouses,” Buchner says. On June 12th, PROSE Nails plans to partner with Eat The Frog Fitness (ETF Fitness) as they host a Re-Grand Opening since they opened in February 2020, at the start of the pandemic. “ETF Fitness will have a fun-filled afternoon, celebrating their Re-Grand Opening with community members and families from 2–5 pm. We look forward to sharing the parking lot with them and having our Boutique ‘show-ready’ for those interested in a Membership,” Buchner says. Right now, PROSE Nails is offering an early-bird membership. “FAST FELIX” DRIVING FORMULA: RACE, WIN, REPEAT GET TO KNOW FELIX ROSENQVIST

Felix Rosenqvist was born and raised in Värnamo which is a municipality in Jönköping County in southern Sweden. He lived with his parents and sister, and the first sport he pursued and excelled in was not racing, it was Alpine skiing. He began skiing at the age of two years old and joined a skiing club. He was building a name in the ski world on the national and international level. Racing cars was not on his radar until one of his skiing buddies introduced him to
Go-Karts when he was nine years old. His ski buddy also raced Go-Karts, so his father invited Felix and his father to come with them to a track. Once inside the GoKart, he recalls thinking, “I am hooked!” He began participating in weekend races, and by the time he was 12 or 13, he won one of Italy’s biggest races. He gave up skiing for good. they moved out of Go-Karts and into a car through the Formula Renault, which is what today is called Formula 4. The Rosenqvists discovered that this was four times cheaper than doing the highest level Go-Karting. This road would lead him out of Sweden to China, where he moved for the season. And after that season all he did was travel, race, win and repeat. The move to China turned out well, he won the 2008 Formula Renault 2.0 Asia series. He was then offered a contract to drive in Japan with Nissan. The 2008 economy
cancelled that opportunity, so he returned to Sweden. He picked up right where he left off and won a few more feature races. There was the 2009 Formula Renault 2.0 Sweden series, the 2009 Formula Renault 2.0 NEZ championship, the 2011 Masters of Formula 3 event, the 2013 Masters of Formula 3 event, the 2014 Macau Grand Prix, the 2015 FIA Formula 3 European Championship and the 2015 Macau Grand Prix. He competed in the Formula E World Championship from 2016–17 to 2018–19 and finished his very first season (2016-17) in the 3rd position. He basically drove every type of car there was to stay active until he could move up from Indy Lights to IndyCar. In 2019, he began participating in the IndyCar Series. Felix was blessed to have the support of his parents in whatever he pursued. His mind raced in school until he could get on a mountain or into a car. Felix was blessed that his parents encouraged him to pursue his dreams. “I admit that it was quite a sacrifice for them to support me because the sports I pursued were taxing both physically and financially,” he says. “But I was fortunate that my parents and sister supported me. It was like my father and I did this together because he traveled with me to nearly every race. And while it was tough, it also gave them lifelong friendships and allowed them to see the world. “My father was in the construction business and, as a small business owner, he not only influenced my work ethic, but he taught me how to work.”
His father continues traveling to most of his races around the country and the world. But he is also supported by his girlfriend Caroline Björkqvist. “She keeps me organized, as I am not a very organized person,” he says. The race season is intense, and he admits his days are completely filled with daily workouts, meetings with the team, engineers and public relations commitments. “My number one focus is on my athletic training,” Felix says. The fitness of the driver is critical since drivers only get 3-4 test drives a year. So working out with renowned race industry trainer, Jim Leo of PitFit, is the key to being able to withstand anything that comes his way. The same goes for the off-season, which is actually longer than the race season, unlike many competitive sports. This is why it is even more important to work out up to two hours a day. Felix enjoys living in his apartment in the heart of downtown Carmel and dining at his favorite restaurants, Café Patachou and Caffé Buondi. His permanent residence is in Monaco, but he is fully committed to IndyCar and, one day, having his face on the Borg-Warner trophy as the winner of the Indianapolis 500. “I want to win the Indy 500, and my team is on a mission and ready to take on the biggest names in racing,” he says.
