“This year’s site is in the last available section of the Chatham Hills neighborhood, and we have an exceptional line-up of builders for it. Home-A-Rama will not only feature Chatham Hills, but we are excited to be working with the City of Westfield to showcase the entire Westfield community and the amenities it offers. It’s going to be an exciting show and perfect way to celebrate BAGI’s 100th anniversary.”
Members of BAGI include home builders and remodelers, as well as contractors in trades such as electrical, plumbing, cabinetry, concrete, architectural design and flooring, just to name a few, and industry-specific professionals in real estate, insurance and more. Members are able to include countless benefits that help them network with other industry professionals, increase their knowledge of important insight and promote their business.
Throughout the years, its mission has been to promote the region’s new-home construction, and to communicate the homebuilding industry’s standards, practices and happenings.
One way the organization promotes its members is through the annual Home-ARama event, a highly anticipated, luxury home show in some of Central Indiana’s most prestigious, newly developed communities that brings in thousands of visitors each year. This year’s show is making its third and final appearance in Westfield’s Chatham Hills neighborhood and will be held Thursdays through Sundays from noon to 8:00 p.m. between September 22 and October 9.

“Home-A-Rama gives individuals the opportunity to experience six incredible custom-built, fully decorated and landscaped homes in some of the area’s most stunning neighborhoods,” Lains says.
“BAGI is believed to possibly be the oldest organized builder group in the United States,” says Steve Lains, Chief Executive Officer of BAGI. “It was called Indianapolis Home Builders until 1969 when the name was changed to the Builders Association of Greater Indianapolis, or more commonly known as BAGI. The name change reflected the organization’s growing reach and today, we have more than 500 members that consist of the area’s leading industry experts.”

Along with events, BAGI imparts information to the public in several other ways. Its official publication is Haven Magazine. The organization’s website also serves as a valuable tool, providing member information, industry news, available lots and communities to build in, and other resources. Perhaps most importantly to consumers, BAGI provides peace of mind that when individuals work with a member, they are working with a trusted, reputable company.
“All BAGI members agree to adhere to the Quality Assurance Builder Standards,” Lains says. “The standards are a series of performance measurements both builders and customers can use to communicate and share expectations throughout a project while providing a written set of guidelines for addressing any issues that may arise.”

Writer / Noah Alatza Photography Provided A patented, engineered stone product is putting a new twist on a material that’s been around for a while. The product is changing the way people can build and design bathrooms, kitchens and more. Now that product, Premium Rock, will be available in the area in the near future, according to company officials.
The new product is waterproof, lightweight, customizable and cost effective. Pearson says it takes much less time and manpower to install than real granite, marble and tile.
Premium Rock, a small business based in Elkhart, recently announced plans to expand its sales and distribution operations to central Indiana. The company is a manufacturer of engineered stone panels using a new proprietary technology.
“I’m looking forward to partnering with the builders in the area that I have made connections with,” she says. “This area is booming and growing, and I am hoping to develop partnerships here.”
Pearson is working with developers and granite companies in the area to continue developing the Premium Rock brand and incorporate the product in various projects. She says the company is also looking at working with the modular home industry.

Premium Rock is a fairly new company but has expanded rapidly in recent years, with plans to hire up to 80 people for a new manufacturing facility in Elkhart scheduled to open in 2024. 30244 County Road 12, Bldg. 1 Elkhart, IN (920)
“I grew up in the construction industry and I know how long it takes to install tile, cut it and make sure you have everything you need,” Pearson says. “What sets Premium Rock apart from others is the product is so realistic, and the fact that you can use standard tools to cut on-site or have the pieces precut is amazing.”

The company was co-founded by Chad Wood and his brother-in-law Nic Hedges, who combined their experience in the granite and RV industries to create the new product.
“The reason we decided to invest in the region is I had quite a few friends in the industry and I started conversations with them about it, and asked them about using Premium Rock, and we got quite a bit of interest,” Pearson says. “We are doing a full-blown expansion because we understand the interest and demand.”

To help celebrate community, they are offering Hamilton County residents a special hometown deal to commemorate the hometown brand acquiring the Clevernest brand.
In February 2022, the four Hometown owners decided to purchase Clevernest, an Andersen window dealer located in Carmel. a Hamilton County fixture for more than 30 years. Peck & Hanlin started Hometown Roofing Team in 2018 in response to their insurance agents — customers needing qualified and honest, ethical inspections of hail-damaged homes when unscrupulous, out-of-town companies come into town pressuring homeowners to sign contracts they’re unable to get out of.
After acquiring the Clevernest dealership, they renamed the company Hometown Window & Door Company to put an emphasis on the hometown feel. They provide a large selection of window styles, shapes and lines to coordinate with any type of home. Hometown Window & Door carries Andersen window and door products. Andersen Windows & Doors was incorporated in 1903 and is the oldest window and door company in the United States. They use only national, top-rated brands and offer a non-prorated and fullytransferable warranty on their windows and doors. The warranty is one of the best in the “Andersenindustry.

“The guys wanted to do something special for the people in the community so we are giving 25% off to anybody who purchases windows in the next few months,” Dorrell Peck, says.

Many Indiana residents are more than a little familiar with the Indianapolis 500. Carmel resident Justin Escue is working to bring the story of the first running of the iconic race to a nationwide audience. The film “500” tells the story of a man who was instrumental in the creation of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway - Greensburg native Carl Fisher.
Just don’t expect “500” to be shot at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The current track looks vastly different than it did in 1911. Initially, Escue hoped to reproduce a small section of the 1911 Speedway for film production. However, Escue is now negotiating to bring a facility to Indiana to produce the movie with The Volume “It’stechnology.thesame technology used for ‘The Mandalorian’ movie and the new ‘The Batman’ movie,” Escue says. “It’s a game engine. Essentially you walk into a room and the entire inside of the room is LCD
“The screenplay is written by Bloomington native Angelo Pizzo, who wrote ‘Rudy’ and ‘Hoosiers,’” Escue says. “It’s the origin story of the greatest spectacle in racing. It will be his triple crown, so to speak, of Indiana sports movies. What he does from now on will be markedly different.” Escue is currently working to secure wellknown A-list actors for the film, which will be filmed in the Hoosier state. The movie’s theatrical release will be followed by a television series with the same actors. He says it would be lunacy to have it filmed anywhere but Indiana. Escue is negotiating for the actors to be in the state seasonally for the next six years. “I’m so excited to tell the story of Carl Fisher,” Escue says. “The Speedway and the race are almost minuscule in terms of what he did during his lifetime. He built Miami Beach, Montauk, New York, our highway systems, and was a huge civil right and women’s liberation proponent. Fisher did so much for the country, but he became a forgotten figure in American history because he didn’t have any children. I’m so happy we get to do the film, but telling his life story through the series is what compels me to push this project forward.”
Escue says the old days of green-lighting a movie are no longer the way things work. He works to attach actors to a project. Once the actors are connected, a preset deal is arranged with a company like Amazon, Apple, Hulu or Netflix. This means Escue no longer has to work to raise funds, as in the Escuepast.is originally from New Palestine, and moved to Austin, Texas, after college to work in the music industry. He moved back to Indiana to pursue his graduate degree at Indiana University. After completing his degree, Escue moved to Los Angeles. He moved back to Carmel from Los Angeles during the height of the pandemic in 2020. He is the director and producer at My First Bike Productions. His credits in film and television include “Cypher,” “#2WheelzNHeelz,” “To Do List,” “Open Mic’rs” and “Saving Star Wars.” For more information, visit myfirstbike.net.

credits Carmel Mayor Jim Brainard for navigating the politics of tax credits. He says the mayor’s been highly supportive, and his open-door policy of assistance has been a considerable help to propel the project
“Thereforward.is currently a huge appetite for racing culture in the entertainment industry,” Escue says. “The Indy 500 is well-known worldwide but not necessarily in the United States. There is a huge IndyCar market in Europe, but the race isn’t as well-known outside of Indiana within the U.S.”

“Hopefully this tax credit will be a game changer for the Indiana filmmaking scene,” Escue says. “When I was in undergraduate and graduate school, we all had to travel to other places for work. The goal is to bring the work here to Indiana. That’s not only positive for the local community, but it’s also bringing out-of-state talent into the Escuestate.”
Escue hopes that filming the production in Indiana will bring more filmmakers to the state and make it comparable to Los Angeles and Austin, Texas, for filmmaking.
Starting July 1, Indiana filmmakers will receive a much-needed incentive through the Indiana Economic Development Corporation. Indiana production companies will be eligible to receive tax credits on up to 30% of their production expenses via the implementation of Senate Enrolled Act 36.

“We approach every project from a personal standpoint, asking who is going to be living at a certain development - empty nesters? People with young families?” says Betsy Garfield, co-founder of Henke Development Group, who runs the company with her father Steve and brother Brad. The answers to those questions drive the amenities, which Henke heavily invests in. The Club at Chatham Hills includes amenities that are unheard of in traditional club settings. For instance, the 65,000-square-foot clubhouse includes a four-lane bowling alley, two-story fitness center with a spin studio, tennis facilities, indoor pool, and outdoor pool with cabanas as well as a swim-up bar (the only one in the state). They took it a step further by considering seasonality and included a sledding hill, bonfire pits, and pop-up igloos for winter dining.

Traditional commercial or residential developers see properties with terrain changes, sprawling woods and rolling hills, and often shake their heads, opting instead to build on flat fields. The team at Henke Development Group, however, seek out such properties because they are both beautiful and unique. That’s precisely what they’ve done at The Club at Chatham Hills, a private, residential golf course community in Westfield that offers unique topography of creeks, rolling hills, woods, lakes, and two Pete Dye-designed golf courses (the nine-hole Executive Course and 18-hole Championship Course).

Moving to a community like this, however, gives them a built-in social scene since this community tends to be socially driven. For instance, people assemble to play tennis, pickleball, swim or attend an event at the club.
“It goes back to us thinking about how our residents spend their days,” Garfield says. “We have busy families with kids involved in travel sports, and they love being two minutes from Grand Park and also being able to meet neighbors at the club for lunch. We also have grandparents who bring their grandchildren here to go It’sswimming.”notunusual for people to choose to relocate to be closer to grandkids. Garfield has seen a spike in this population, particularly following COVID-19. Residents tell her, “You’re too young to have experienced this yet, but when your kids get older you’ll see that it’s harder to make friends when you move somewhere. You don’t have the schools, the soccer teams, the football tailgates and all of that to connect you with other people.”
Currently, The Club at Chatham Hills has more than 450 residents.
Andre and Erica Porter had been considering adding a pool and other features that their kids would enjoy to their existing 2018 Home-A-Rama home. When they reviewed options, however, they decided against adding the features to the existing home, and instead opted to work with Carrington Homes on its 2022 HomeA-Rama home, where the features would be built into their plans.
who lives here golfs, and the answer is no,” Garfield says. “Only about 40% of our residents on our courses are golf members.” These lots are highly desirable for a number of reasons, not the least of which is the breathtaking view. In addition, many residents love that they can buy a lot for which they don’t have to maintain much of the yard, because it may overlook 10 acres of perfectly manicured grass, wildlife wetlands or woods.
Having amenities on-site or close by is key in today’s fast-paced world. The developers recognize that people appreciate being able to reclaim precious time in their day by not having to travel far to enjoy such amenities.
“In addition to the new features, we were drawn in by the unique floor plan and the fantastic tree-lined view of the golf course from the backyard,” Erica Porter says. “Of course we were pleased to find the new home opportunity in Chatham Hills as we have built many friendships here, and our kids love the neighborhood.”
There are some beautiful larger lots near Home-A-Rama that are now available, many with trees or cul-de-sac settings. Chatham Village is getting ready to open across from the clubhouse. This
In September, Chatham Hills will host Home-A-Rama for the third time. These $2 million homes are between 5,500 and 8,200 square feet. Though most are already sold, a couple of lots are still available.
Henke Development Group has plans to develop a retail commercial village on a 12-acre lake, which will offer opportunities for water recreation such as fishing and kayaking. That’s not been a possibility on the lakes near the golf courses, due to the possibility of errant golf balls.
“It has been carefully designed to incorporate details that give a cute and welcoming feel,” Garfield says. “It will feature classic American architecture styles, with alley-load garages on the north side and custom homes on the south portion.” These homes will start around $550,000.
