From the Publisher
CONG TULATIONS CENTER GROVE HIGH SCHOOL CLASS OF 2024!
Every issue is a pleasure to publish, but THIS one - the annual June issue of celebrating and honoring the current CGHS graduating class - is perhaps my most favorite.
Our little Trojans run off as kindergartners and, in what feels like a span of two weeks (time is a thief, don’t you know), we watch them stroll across the stage to accept their high school diploma.
The days are long but the years are short. Truer words were never spoken. In those years they’ve grown, matured, and perhaps discovered their natural talents and what will be their lifelong passion. They found their way, they made friends, they made Mother’s Day gifts that we’ll treasure forever, and they brought home germs that made us all sick. They made good grades and bad, made us laugh, made us angry, made us deliriously happy, made us worry, and maybe even made us cry. But most of all, they made our families complete and they made us burst with pride on so many occasions - a feeling we’ll experience yet again on Sunday, June 2.
Congratulations Class of 2024! In true Trojan form, Go Forth and Conquer!
Sincere thanks to Maria Sichting, Secretary at CG High School, and Stacy Conrad, Executive Director of Communications for the Center Grove Community School Corporation, who pull all of the information together to make this issue complete. The community and I appreciate all that you do to make this an enjoyable and memorable issue.
I must also give a special thanks and kudos to Gabriella (Gabe) Egenolf, CGHS Class of 2024 member and student at Central Nine Career Center. Gabe is in the Digital Design program under the instruction of Robert Briones and Brad Magness. Gabe designed a unique back cover specifically for this issue. For those who are, shall we say, “mature,” this might bring back memories of your own childhood reading a certain publication that, as soon as it arrived in the mailbox, prompted you to go straight to the back cover. Creating this was no easy task, but Gabe delivered above and beyond my wildest dreams. I hope you enjoy this fun feature.
As June marches on, we’ll officially celebrate the first day of summer and we’ll also celebrate dear old dad. Happy Father’s Day, gentlemen!
I wish all of you a safe and happy summer full of adventure as well as lazy days. If you’re out shopping, need service of a certain kind, or if you’re hungry, please visit one of our valued partners - the advertisers of Center Grove Magazine. I promise, you will love every single one of them. Lastly, live in the moments. We know all too well that time really does fly.

Center Grove High School’s Class of 2024 started their high school careers in the midst of COVID restrictions. Despite this rocky start, they learned to navigate high school and thrive. They have learned resilience, grit and an appreciation for life without limits. The talents of this class have shown through, not only in their academics, but also in their athletic and musical successes. They will take with them great memories of their numerous successes, from county titles to state and national championships. We look forward to watching them thrive in the next phases of their lives.
We wish every senior the very best as they start their next chapters in life.
Sincerely,
William K. Long, Ed.D. Superintendent
WE WISH EVERY SENIOR THE VERY BEST AS THEY START THE NEXT CHAPTERS IN LIFE.
6 | June 2024 | TownePost.com
The 2023-2024 school year was full of individual, group and team successes in our classrooms, extracurriculars and athletic competitions. The talents possessed by members of this graduating class are diverse, and have been a joy to witness throughout the last four years.
As 2024 CGHS graduates heading off to pursue your post-high school plans, whether that be a college or university, a technical or trade school, an apprenticeship, military service, or employment, I am confident that your last four years at CGHS have prepared you well for what you will encounter next.
You have all developed tremendous skills in goal setting, perseverance, critical thinking and problem solving. Whether it was through a writing assignment in an English class; an experiment in science; a project in engineering and technology or Project Lead the Way; a complex problem in math; a performance in band, choir, orchestra or theater; a portfolio of work in art; challenging your health, physical stamina and fitness in physical education/ health; learning to care for yourself and your family in FACS; learning about our society in social studies; examining the language and culture of another society in world language; or learning about personal and business finance in a business class, you have grown tremendously as learners.
I want to remind you all that you possess brilliant minds capable of critical analysis of the world. You have compassion for others as evidenced by the many community service projects you have been involved in, either individually or as a member of a school club or organization. You have a remarkable capacity to make a positive impact on our community, or on any community in which you choose to live. I want to challenge you to use that capacity to its fullest. Leverage your intelligence, compassion and perseverance to leave a positive mark wherever you go.
I wish you success, good health and happiness as you graduate from Center Grove High School. I hope you will stay in touch with us and let us know how you are doing in future years. Remember to respect and care for yourself, respect and care for others, and remember…It’s great to be a Trojan!
Your Partner in Education,
Jeffry M. Henderson, Ed.D. Principal

DAN ANDERSEN AWARDED
Teacher of the Year
Mr. Andersen is the choral music director at Middle School Central. This is his 30th of year teaching in Center Grove. As Teacher of the Year, Andersen will receive $1,000, courtesy of Wallman Financial, LLC to spend in her classroom. He will represent Center Grove in the Indiana Teacher of the Year competition.
“Dan Andersen has had an indelible impact on many, many Center Grove students during his 30-year tenure,” said Bill Long, Ed.D. Interim Superintendent. “He works to see the whole child, not just the choir student in front of him. This helps him build lasting connections with his students.”
“It is quite an honor to be named the Teacher of the Year for the Center Grove School Corporation.” said Andersen. “To be chosen from the hundreds of incredible teachers in Center Grove is very humbling.”
Center Grove honored 78 current, former, and retired teachers with Legacy Awards. Center Grove High School seniors nominate the teacher they believe had the greatest impact on them during their time in Center Grove schools.

“WE’RE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER AND IT SHOWS WHEN WE STAND HAND IN HAND MAKE OUR DREAMS COME TRUE”
Few words have ever been more fitting than when several leads from Center Grove Middle School North’s 2020 production of Disney’s hit, “High School Musical”, united with their 2024 counterparts for an inspiring finale singing, “We’re All in This Together.”
In 2020, CGMSN’s planned production of this musical was well underway in rehearsals, but, like so many other events, the pandemic brought down the curtain.
Center Grove High School senior and MSN Drama Club choreographer, Brooklyn Bruner, was to play the role of Martha.
“When our 8th grade show was canceled, I was devastated,” Bruner says. “We had worked so hard, and we were so excited about being able to perform.”
As the 2024 production was being discussed, it seemed like the perfect time to revive the show, but with a clever and meaningful twist – inviting the previously selected cast members, now in the denouement of their high school careers, to perform alongside.
“The show concept came together naturally with this year being the four-year anniversary and most of the main cast being
seniors. It really seemed like the perfect year,” Tori Sigafoes says, choir and drama director. “I was initially a little nervous asking the students to come back, but they were all really excited and helpful. I think they remembered how impactful drama club was to their middle school experience, and they got the opportunity to be that impact for the current middle school students.”
“It was a heartwarming experience on opening night when the audience started applauding the moment the high school students walked onto the stage!” Sigafoes says.
The performances took place on April 12th and 13th.

CGHS ATHLETICS CONTINUE TO SHINE ON INDIVIDUAL AND TEAM LEVELS

FORMER CENTER GROVE STANDOUTS SHINING BRIGHTER THAN EVER
Center Grove High School (CGHS) football Head Coach Eric Moore’s program motivational motto is “Hard Work x Dedication = Success.” This principle was fully embodied at the 2024 NFL Draft, when the Chicago Bears selected former CGHS defensive lineman Austin Booker with the 144th pick. Booker’s journey from playing football in elementary school in the Center Grove Bantam League to becoming a professional football player is a testament to the success of Center Grove’s football program.
“I had an amazing visit [to Chicago],” says Booker. “I know I will be in good hands going forward. I’m 21, so I know I have many years to get stronger and faster, so I’m just looking to keep growing in the NFL.”
Booker impressed many of the pro scouts with his ultracompetitive spirit.
“It comes from playing tackle football since kindergarten,” says Booker. “My dad also played defensive tackle. I’ve always had that motor, wanting to get to the ball, make hits and get to the quarterback. I’ve always had that. I love the game. I’m treating every down like it’s my last.”
After playing in the Center Grove Bantam League, Booker played two years at Center Grove Middle School North, and concluded his youth career with three seasons on the CGHS varsity team. As a senior, Booker played a pivotal role in the Trojans’ triumphant 2020 6A state championship campaign, contributing 36 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, and two forced fumbles.

In 2023 Booker was named an All-Big 12 First Team selection, and the Big 12 Defensive Newcomer of the Year after one year at Kansas University. His transition from high school to college was not without its challenges, but his determination and hard work paid off. Booker participated in the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine and Reese’s Senior Bowl following the season. Booker transferred to Kansas after two years at the University of Minnesota.
Booker’s high school teammate, Carson Steele, was signed by the two-time defending Super Bowl champion Kansas
City Chiefs as an undrafted free agent following the draft. Steele had a brilliant four-year career as a running back for the Trojans. In his final season at CGHS, Steele had 1,659 yards rushing and 31 rushing touchdowns, won a state title, and earned the coveted 2020 Indiana Mr. Football award. He concluded his prep career with 5,907 yards rushing, 82 rushing touchdowns, and 16 school records.
However, despite his high school success, Steele only received one Division I scholarship offer. It came from Ball State University. He played two seasons for the
Cardinals, recording 12 100-yard rushing games. In 2022 he had a career-high 198 rushing yards in one game, and his season total of 1,556 rushing yards ranked him ninth nationally and was top in the conference. He played his final collegiate season at UCLA, appearing in 12 games with nine starts, rushing for 847 yards.
Booker and Steele join current Los Angeles Rams safety Russ Yeast in the NFL as the only current CGHS players in the league. Yeast became the first CGHS player drafted into the NFL, taken by the Rams in 2022. Over the past two seasons, Yeast has 71

tackles in 32 games with the Rams. He earned defensive player of the game honors in LA’s win at San Francisco in the 2023 regular-season finale. Yeast was also the first Trojan to play in an NFL playoff game when the Rams played at Detroit in mid-January, losing to the Lions 24-23. Yeast recorded five tackles, four of which were solo tackles.

BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM CELEBRATES MILESTONE
CGHS’s boys basketball program celebrated a significant milestone by drafting its first player into the NBA, Trayce Jackson-Davis. Jackson-Davis, taken as the final pick in the 2023 draft, immediately had an impact in his rookie season with the Golden State Warriors. He ended the season as a starter, averaging nearly eight points, five rebounds, and one block per game in 68 games.
“Trayce had an outstanding rookie season and was such a joy to watch night in and night out, from having high-flying lob dunks to blocking the best players in the NBA like Giannis [Antetokounmpo] and [Victor Wembanyama],” says Jackson-Davis’s CGHS Head Coach Zach Hahn. “Expectations for all players coming into the NBA are unknown. Trayce exceeded expectations and cemented himself into the starting lineup for one of the best franchises in the NBA. He proved through consistent rebounding, blocking shots, and efficiency on offense that he deserved the opportunity to play a key role for the Warriors. Trayce has always been a high-IQ player. He greatly understands spacing, angles, and timing on the defensive end. His future is as bright as he wants it to be. He will have to continue to get in the gym and outcompete guys daily. If he does that, his next contract will be lucrative, and he can play in the NBA for 10 to 15 years.”

BOYS GOLF WINS
NORTH-SOUTH CUP OVER CARMEL
CGHS boys golf clinched a thrilling victory in the 2024 North-South Cup, defeating its arch rival Carmel by 24 strokes. The Trojans’ collective effort, led by juniors Brody Holubar and Noah Parsetich, who were co-medalists with scores of 71, resulted in a team score of 291, surpassing Carmel’s 315. This win adds to the Trojans’ impressive victories, including the Trojan Classic and Yorktown Invitational.
SOFTBALL COUNTY CHAMPS
CGHS softball captured the 2024 Johnson County Tournament title with a 6-1 home win over Indian Creek. The Trojans outscored their opponents in three tournament games 31-1. Senior Riley Janda led the CGHS offense in the tourney with five hits, two of which were home runs, and seven batted in. Senior pitcher Riley Henson secured the wins in the circle in the final and semifinal games, striking out eight batters, and only allowing three hits in four-and-two-thirds innings pitched. Congratulations to Alyssa Coleman on winning her 100th game as the head coach of the Trojans softball program.
