Hamilton East Public Library in Fishers has moved the main entrance from the south side of the building to the north end. There is now more parking available. Lots of construction work is still ahead.
The Fifty Club of Fishers issued its Unsung Hero Award to Angela Ellison of the Fishers Police Department and Neil Sullivan from Fishers Fire and Emergency Services. The awards were handed out in an April 27 ceremony at Knowledge Services.
The Fishers Nickel Plate Review Committee has provided partial approval for a new office building in the municipal complex along Municipal Drive. The AMP West building received one requested waiver from the Nickel Plate code, but will work with staff to resolve one issue on some outside building materials.
It was 2013 when the Indianapolis Business Journal (IBJ) named Scott Fadness, then Fishers town manager, as part of the newspaper’s Forty under 40 list. This year IBJ named Fadness, now mayor of Fishers, Alumni of the Year. Rachael Coverdale of Coverdale Consulting was named to the 2023 list of IBJ’s Forty under 40.
Ryan Homes unveiled plans for two housing projects in the eastern part of Fishers, with 96th Street to the south, 101st Street to the north, one near Cyntheanne Road and the other along Georgia Road. Ryan Homes’ attorney Murray Clark told the Fishers City
The Fishers City Council unanimously put its seal of approval on a project agreement for the City Walk development, with a planned location south of 121st Street and west of Technology Lane. The $75 million development will be located along the Nickel Plate Trail. Fishers Economic Development Director Megan Baumgartner says there will be a variety of different housing types in this plan, including 87 for-rent multifamily units, 44 townhomes for sale, and 101 for-sale condominium units.
An April 14 motorcycle crash claimed the life of a Fishers man. The victim is identified as Dameion Dvail Ramsey, 39. The accident happened late in the evening at Southeastern Parkway and Jack Walker Lane.
The coming school year will see a few changes on the Hamilton Southeastern (HSE) schools calendar. For the 2023-2024 year, HSE will move the normal Friday day off before spring break to the Monday following spring break in 2024, allowing students to experience the full solar eclipse. The new calendar also reduces the number of eLearning days from three down to one.
The Fishers High School Robotics Team won the Indiana state championship in robotics competition. Robotics Coach Jeff Fronius says his squad now heads to Houston for the world championship.

People who get hurt in an accident are often overwhelmed, confused and frustrated about having their lives turned upside down.
Just ask Chris Wyant, an attorney who specializes in personal injury cases. Wyant’s office has always been located in downtown Indianapolis, but he recently moved his law practice back home to Fishers, where he grew up and where he raises his family today. “I want people to know I am here in downtown Fishers to help them, should they ever be the victim of an accident,” Wyant says.
He has spent his entire legal career representing individuals who have been injured as a result of the carelessness of others. “I help people with personal injury cases from different types of incidents like car accidents, truck accidents, motorcycle accidents, bike accidents, slip and falls, injuries on others’ property, dog attacks, etcetera,” Wyant says.
He believes lawyers should be approachable and easy to talk to. “I often hear people say they were too nervous to contact a lawyer, felt intimidated, or felt like they would not be heard,” Wyant says. “From the second
someone calls, I want them to feel comfortable asking any questions they have, and know that I will listen and assist any way I can.”
“I help people by giving them an honest and easy-to-understand assessment of their case,” he adds. “I then explain their options to them so they can make the best decision for their situation.”
Wyant is passionate about his work and helping people. “I enjoy working with my clients to get the best outcome for their case, whether that means reaching a settlement with the insurance company or litigating their case and preparing it for trial,” he says. “My staff and I stand by you every step of the way to get you the outcome you deserve.”
Wyant couldn’t be happier about being back in Fishers, where he played baseball during his high school years at Hamilton Southeastern (HSE). He looks forward to being more involved in the community.
Marissa Deckert started her career on the West Coast in event management working with the Anaheim Ducks NHL team, where she led a team of 300 to put on a variety of public and private events. After 10 years in California, she accepted a job as senior director of security and guest experience with the Portland Trailblazers and Rose Quarter entertainment campus, where she oversaw more than 600 annual
events across three campus venues.
“We had the NBA team, a WHL hockey team, and a variety of other affairs including corporate events and campaign rallies for the presidential election,” Deckert says.
In 2018 her daughter moved to Indiana, and Deckert decided to follow, as she wanted to stay close to her family. She relocated to Fishers and began working for Fishers Parks
and Recreation as an assistant director. In March of 2023 she was promoted to director.
“Prior to coming here, my jobs were focused on event planning and venue management,” Deckert says. “Here it’s cool because I get to do a variety of things including community events and smaller programming.”

Thursday is the Car & Art Show at the Municipal Complex, featuring both vintage and classic cars as well as a mix of artists displaying various mediums such as painting, drawing and woodworking. Last year about 80 cars were part of the show including Lamborghinis, Ferraris, a 1969 Chevelle, and a fully restored 1929 Packard.
“One of my favorite things from last year, which we’ll do again this year, is at the end of the day, having all the cars pull out onto 116th Street,” Deckert says.
Friday offers another free concert at 8 p.m. Saturday is the Street Festival, which runs from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. and features 130 different food, artisan and craft vendors as well as multiple stages with live music. Organizers encourage attendees to park at the FORUM Credit Union headquarters (11313 USA Parkway) and take the free shuttle (nine shuttles will run every 15 minutes).
annual weeklong festival will take place in downtown Fishers from Tuesday, June 20 until Saturday, June 24. What started out as a two-day event grew to five days because of attendance growth. Not only does this spread out the crowds, but it also enables people to choose the specific events they want to engage in.
Tuesday will offer a free community concert at the Nickel Plate District Amphitheater at
7 p.m. Wednesday they’ll host an evening 5K run in addition to a 60-yard dash for little ones.
“In the past we’ve seen lots of families come to cheer people on, so we decided to add a post-race atmosphere,” says Gabe Amick, special events experience coordinator.
“Anyone who registers for the 5K gets a free beverage, compliments of MashCraft brewery. Also on hand will be a live deejay,
One of their most popular spots is the Kids Zone, which offers inflatables, face painting, balloon twisting, body glitter and puppet shows (there’s also a Toddler Zone for littles). Older kids can hang out in the Teen Zone with a mobile skate park, arcade, foosball, table tennis, shuffleboard, and a dance floor with a deejay where teens can do hip-hop dance battles to compete for cash prizes.
Fishers Parks has partnered with KultureCity to provide sensory bags with
noise-reduction headphones, fidget tools, communication cards, and weighted lap pads for individuals with sensory sensitivities.
“We’re extremely proud of our partnership with KultureCity and the efforts our Parks team has made to create more accessible events,” Deckert says. “We continue to listen, learn and adapt with the valued feedback we receive from our residents.”
They have also partnered with the Milk Bank to provide a quiet, air-conditioned space for mothers to nurse.
The festival’s parade has a new route this year that goes straight through the heart of Fishers. In recent years, Fishers Parks has had to work around a number of different challenges, from COVID to construction. This year is no different, as City Hall is currently being rebuilt.
“We’ve gotten really creative and are able to
offer an improved experience from previous years,” Deckert says. “We’re shifting that footprint a little bit north, and I think our shuttle situation is improved as it drops you right in the heart of what’s going on.”
The night culminates with the Aerial Show at 10 p.m. (new this year) that will include 200 drones, followed by a fireworks finale.
“Each year we have an amazing opportunity to bring our community together and showcase our city pride through a unique event experience,” Deckert says. “We’re especially excited to be the first in central Indiana to host an aerial drone show.”

At the heart of any city government is its city hall. Fishers leaders are hoping the new City Hall building currently being built at 1 Municipal Drive isn’t just a home for the municipal offices, but also a beacon for the community. The three-story building is still over a year from completion, but plans are already underway for its use.
“One of the things I found disheartening about the old City Hall building was that many people never step foot inside the building unless they are there for specific business with the city,” says Fishers Mayor Scott Fadness.
“It didn’t feel as though it was the people’s building. It didn’t seem as open and as engaging as it should be. We thought this was a creative way to bring Fishers residents to the building.”
That creative way to bring the people to the people’s building involved a partnership with Indianapolis Art Center. Executive Director Mark Williams says they worked with the city to create a community gathering space, using art to build community and uniting people to build a better, stronger, more vibrant community.
The first floor will house the Fishers Arts Center, operated in partnership with the Indianapolis Art Center and Fishers Arts Center theater. The second and third floors will house municipal staff offices. Williams says the Arts Center will contain two flex studios allowing artists to express themselves through drawing, painting, digital art and photography. There will also be a dedicated clay studio with a kiln.
“We also have exhibition space on both sides of the building,” Williams says. “The lobby side will continue to be activated by
the Fishers Arts Council to source local exhibits. Then over on the other Arts Center side will be some dedicated gallery space that will likely have quarterly contemporary art exhibitions.”
Fadness says he sees the new building as a great way to recruit and retain talent at City Hall. The Fishers Arts Center will also offer community outreach programs such as team-building events where businesses and organizations can bond and creatively collaborate on new ideas.
“I think many of us share the sentiment that you could be walking into City Hall and seeing an art class full of artistic people pursuing their passion,” Fadness says.
“That’s a level of vibrancy you don’t get in most government buildings.”
The city is already working to ramp up excitement in the community for the new
building. They previously held a beam signing for residents, and are working on a time-capsule letter-writing campaign with Towne Post Network. The letters serve as firsthand accounts of why residents love their vibrant city. The capsule will be opened in 50 years in conjunction with the city’s 200th birthday.
“Residents are going to start seeing a presence at the Fishers Farmers Market,” Williams says. “We’ll be letting people know what we’ll be offering and what’s coming with the new building.”
The project has an estimated budget of $22.8 million, with $6 million coming from American Rescue Plan Act funds. No additional or increased taxes will occur as a result of this investment.

“I THINK MANY OF US SHARE THE SENTIMENT THAT YOU COULD BE WALKING INTO CITY HALL AND SEEING AN ART CLASS FULL OF ARTISTIC PEOPLE PURSUING THEIR PASSION. THAT’S A LEVEL OF VIBRANCY YOU DON’T GET IN MOST GOVERNMENT BUILDINGS.”
—FISHERS MAYOR SCOTT FADNESS
Years ago, Tony Lausas, hardscape installation specialist and owner of BPI Outdoor Living, was sitting in a seminar when the speaker said something that really struck him.
“He stated, ‘You can go to the moon and back with how many pavers are installed in the U.S., but only 5% of those pavers are maintained,’” recalls Lausas. “I thought that was crazy.”
The startling statistic sparked an idea that took root, and in 2011 Lausas launched Paver Rescue, a company that repairs,
restores and maintains existing paver and concrete surfaces. Each year tens of thousands of homeowners install paver patios, walkways and driveways. Many of those homeowners assume that the pavers require no maintenance, but they’re mistaken, as the elements take a toll.
“The reality is they require low maintenance, not no maintenance,” says Lausas. “Pavers are designed to move with freeze and thaw, so you don’t end up with a slab of concrete that cracks. When they move, sometimes they require a bit of repair because they become uneven.”
Paver Rescue can bring back the original luster and color of a homeowner’s beautifully designed installations by employing a five-step process. Step one involves repairing broken, cracked or uneven pavers. Step two replaces edging restraint that has failed over time. Step three is a thorough cleaning of the surface using a high-pressure sprayer with heated water and a specially formulated cleaning solution to diminish dirt and stains on the paver surface. Step four is replenishing the polymeric sand, filling any joints for stability and eliminating gaps that could potentially trap dirt and debris. Step five is applying a
sealant tailored to the homeowner’s specific surface.
Once the Paver Rescue team restores a patio, it’s wise to join their annual maintenance program, which includes a light wash and sand touchup. They also do an inspection of the patio to look for pavers that have moved, as well as fix any edging that has come out of the ground. A client can stay on the maintenance program for three to five years before there is a need to reseal their paver patio or driveway again.
“When I first got into the business, I thought the sealer was going to be the main thing everyone was worried about, but honestly the biggest thing that fails in pavers is the sand not staying put,” says Lausas, who designed the maintenance program to provide members peace of mind that their outdoor investment will be properly maintained into the future.
Lausas recommends that homeowners refrain from pressure washing their pavers in an attempt to deep clean them. For practical paver do’s and don’ts, visit the Paver Tips section at www.PaverRescue.com.
“That blows out the sand and once you do that, it’s really hard to fix,” he says. The result is dirty, dull, chipped and cracked pavers.
“People love to entertain on their patios and are proud of their space,” says Lausas. “Our maintenance program allows clients to do that because your paver patio will continue looking great year after year.”
Contact Paver Rescue today for a free estimate. Paver Rescue is located at 9386 Castlegate Drive in Indianapolis. For more information, call 317-259-4880 or visit paverrescue.com.
