WELCOME TO FISHERS!

It is a date I will never forget - May 11, 1991. It was the day that Jane Johnson became my wife. It was a warm and wonderful day to be sure.

But it marked another important day for me. That was the day I became a resident of Fishers. I had lived in the Irvington area of Indianapolis and loved that neighborhood. However, Jane had already built a house in Fishers, so this would be my new home.

Jane decided to build her house in Fishers before we started dating seriously. At that time, this was a place where one could build a starter home.

But Jane also realized Fishers was in a position to grow. The 1990 census counted 7,508 souls in the Town of Fishers. Estimates say the current resident count in the City of Fishers is between 103,000 and 105,000.

That small Town of Fishers I found in 1991 has grown to one of the largest cities in Indiana. There are a number of reasons why the population has exploded.

I would cite the Hamilton Southeastern Schools as a major reason for the exponential growth of Fishers. My twin daughters are now 31, both K-12 grads of HSE Schools, now college graduates raising their own families. There are stories like

that all over our community. My daughters received a first-class education here.

Scott Fadness began his Fishers career as an intern with the town. He moved up in the organization and was town manager in 2014 when Fishers held its first city election. Rather than looking for another town to manage, Fadness went from Fishers town manager to the elected mayor once Fishers became a city.

Once assuming the title of mayor, Fadness always said - and says today - he wants Fishers to be a smart, vibrant and entrepreneurial city. A major element of that is providing a quality of life that will attract residents and keep them here.

The decision by IKEA to locate a store in Fishers, and shortly thereafter the announcement that Topgolf would build a facility close by, resulted in development in that area. That led to the creation of Fishers District, a center for restaurants and retail activity. There is more development coming nearby.

When moving here in 1991, I never imagined Fishers would host a professional hockey team, but we have the Indy Fuel. We have professional football with the Fishers Freight Indoor Football League team. We have professional women’s volleyball with Indy Ignite. All those teams are here because

Fishers found a way to finance a new Event Center to host all those sports squads. The facility has hosted a national women’s volleyball all-star game that gave us national attention. Many shows have been booked for the Event Center.

A community center is now under construction at 121st Street and Hoosier Road, near Hoosier Road Elementary School. Memberships are now on sale. That facility will open in November of this year.

As your family settles into Fishers, you will discover the main reason Jane and I are in our third Fishers home, and made the decision to remain in Fishers during our retirement years. To put it simply, it’s the people.

We have developed so many friendships through neighbors and our activities around the city. I have written a local news blog at LarryInFishers.com for over 13 years, and have grown to know so many people in and around our city - all quality individuals.

As a new resident of Fishers, you will experience the reason Jane and I have lived in this community for 34 years. We love the people. We know you will as well.

Welcome to Fishers!

EMPOWERING FINANCIAL FUTURES

THE KNEPP FINANCIAL GROUP JOURNEY

Writer / Renee Larr
Photographer / Robert Jones

For nearly two decades, Knepp Financial Group (KFG) has been a strong pillar of financial security and strategic planning for its clients. Founded in 2005 by Jon-Jon Knepp, the firm has grown into a full-service financial advisory group dedicated to helping individuals and families navigate their financial futures. With a strong emphasis on personalized service, community involvement and a comprehensive approach to wealth management, KFG has cultivated a reputation that goes beyond just numbers; it’s about relationships, trust and financial confidence.

Knepp’s journey to establishing KFG began with a bold decision to leave corporate America behind. Working for a large company had benefits, but Knepp felt limited by the inherent constraints of a bureaucratic corporate structure and saw an opportunity to create something better. “We took a leap of faith; it was the scariest and best thing we ever did,” Knepp says.

Initially operating from offices in Indianapolis and Muncie, KFG eventually planted firm roots in Fishers, where Knepp and his family reside. In 2018 the team took the next step in its journey, purchasing land on Lantern Road and demolishing an existing structure, building a headquarters from the ground up. This move was more than just a relocation; it was a commitment to the community they call home. There

is a second location in Fort Wayne to assist clients with wealth management in Northern Indiana.

KFG sets itself apart through its comprehensive and customized approach to wealth management. Unlike many firms that focus solely on investing in the market, Knepp looks at clients’ entire financial picture, integrating legacy planning, tax strategies and long-term financial security.

Knepp describes the firm as a comprehensive wealth management partner. “We provide a full spectrum of services, working closely with a network of elder law attorneys and CPAs to support our clients’ needs,” Knepp says. “While we actively manage investments in the market, we also prioritize conservative strategies designed to protect wealth and ensure financial security.”

A key differentiator for KFG is the team’s commitment to crafting personalized financial roadmaps - something many individuals overlook. “Most people are diligent savers, but they often lack a clear strategy for efficiently managing and spending their money in retirement,” Knepp explains. By taking the time to understand each client’s unique priorities, whether it’s maximizing retirement income, preserving wealth for future generations or funding

a dream lifestyle, the firm designs tailored financial strategies that align with their longterm aspirations.

At KFG, client relationships are the foundation of everything they do. “Years ago I came across a study revealing that 72% of people leave their advisors, not due to performance, but because they don’t feel a strong connection,” Knepp shares. That insight has shaped the firm’s philosophy, ensuring that every client receives personalized attention, clear communication and a partnership built on trust.

Beyond wealth management services, KFG has woven itself into the fabric of the Fishers community. Knepp dedicates his time as a youth basketball coach, while other team members contribute through literacy mentorships, food drives and advocacy for local charities.

“We all have a passion for giving back,” says Jaci McPheron, marketing and events coordinator. “Whether it’s supporting local schools, working with rescue organizations or being active in the Fishers Chamber of Commerce, we’re always looking for ways to make a difference.”

The firm also extends its financial

credentials to the broader community through financial literacy workshops. These free sessions, often held at local restaurants or community centers, provide attendees with valuable insights into investment strategies, retirement planning and financial goal setting.

With so many financial advisory firms available, what makes KFG unique? The answer lies in a client-first philosophy, proactive approach and exceptional service.

KFG takes a proactive and personalized approach to wealth management, tailoring strategies to align with market conditions and client goals. “We believe in active money management,” Knepp explains. “There are times to be fully invested and times to take a more cautious stance, and we adjust accordingly to help protect and grow our clients’ wealth.”

As a fiduciary firm, KFG is legally and ethically committed to acting in the best interests of its clients. “Our fiduciary

responsibility means that every decision we make is guided by what’s best for our clients, not by commissions or sales incentives,” Knepp explains. “Holding a Series 65 license reinforces that commitment, ensuring transparency, trust and client-focused strategies in everything we do.”

2025 marks a major milestone for KFG - its 20th anniversary. To celebrate, the firm is hosting a large community event at Daniel’s Vineyard on September 25. The gathering will feature live music, food and festivities, bringing together clients, families and the broader community.

“This anniversary isn’t just about us; it’s about the relationships we’ve built and the trust our clients have placed in us over the years,” Knepp says. “Some of our clients have been with us since the very beginning, and that means the world to us.”

The team at KFG isn’t just a group of employees. It’s a tight-knit family that shares a passion for helping others. This sense of family extends to clients. “People come in and they’re not just another account number to us,” says Kelly Tully, director of operations. “They ask about our kids, our vacations, our lives - and we do the same to them. It’s a genuine connection.”

Annie, Knepp’s loyal dog and the heart of the office, brings a calming presence and friendly energy to KFG, making her a favorite among clients who often stop by just to see her. Knepp shares that same welcoming spirit, balancing his work with family life alongside his wife, Jennifer, and their four children, Beatrice, Walker, Eleanor, and Holden.

As KFG enters its next decade, the firm remains committed to its core values: building meaningful relationships, providing superior financial guidance and giving back to the community. Whether through innovative wealth management strategies, unparalleled client service or deep community engagement, KFG continues to set the standard for what a financial advisory firm should be.

FISHERS YOUTH INITIATIVE

The Fishers Youth Assistance Program (FYAP) and Youth Mentoring Initiative (YMI) have combined forces to form Fishers Youth Initiative (FYI), a new nonprofit organization dedicated to ensuring that young people within the Hamilton Southeastern school district have every opportunity to build a positive future.

By merging their strengths, YMI and FYAP aim to magnify their impact by serving more children and families

through a comprehensive network of programs and services designed to help youths navigate life’s challenges.

Board President Matt Schlueter wants people to know that despite the name change of the nonprofit, the goals, resources and impact are still the same.

“The goal of the merger is to give the community clarity on where to go and support the youth in our community,” Schlueter says. “By combining forces, we’re giving that clarity and we’re able to do better and go further. We’re not

working in silos anymore, but together.”

Schlueter says part of the mission was to give those in the community who want to give their time, resources and financial donations to area youths a collective initiative - more of a onestop shop instead of deciding where to volunteer or donate.

YMI has provided successful student mentoring programs for years, while FYAP has focused on early intervention referral services that connect youths and their families to critical resources.

Together, Fishers Youth Initiative will:

• Enhance services to expand and strengthen programs to serve children and families better.

• Streamline access by offering a onestop shop to address the needs of youths within the community.

• Build a unified network by fostering collaboration among compassionate individuals and organizations dedicated to helping young people thrive.

FYI will continue delivering the same programs its predecessor organizations have historically provided. This includes YMI’s mentoring program, Snack Attack and the Summer Meals Program. Additionally, FYI will continue to work in collaboration with Early Intervention Advocates appointed by Hamilton County as part of the Youth Assistance Program.

Schlueter says volunteering as a mentor is one of the best ways the community can support FYI. Mentoring relationships are essential to helping students discover who they are, develop skills and learn how to engage with the world.

“We have over 40 kids at any given time that need a mentor - a caring adult

SPONSORED BY

who is not mom or dad - to give 30 minutes of their time a week,” he says. “As a mentor, you’re being challenged and growing just at much as the student you’re mentoring, and learning how to connect with and support a student.”

In the coming weeks, a new brand and website will launch with information on joint programs and fundraising opportunities to support youths

in Fishers. In the interim, both organizations’ websites - ymionline. org and fishersyap.org - will continue to direct people to current programs and referral links.

To get involved, community members can send an email to info@ymionline. org, or visit either existing website and utilize the contact submission form.

GOODES SECURITY CONSULTING

Goodes Security Consulting helps companies and residential homeowners determine their specific security and risk management needs, and then develops a strategic solution to help them smoothly transition to an improved security profile.

Owner Roger Goodes is now at a place in life where he wants to be home more and travel less, and current and prospective clients couldn’t be in better - or safer - hands. A 20-year resident of Fishers, Goodes has over 40 years of experience in federal and local law enforcement, corporate security, and security consulting. He spent 26 years with the United States Secret Service, including nearly seven years assigned to the Presidential Protective Division. His last nine years with the Secret Service were as special agent in charge of the Indianapolis field office. He then served six years as director of security services for Anthem, Inc., a Fortune 50 company. These experiences led him to Hillard Heintze, a leading security risk management firm, where he spent three years working with companies in all industries and sizes.

Outside of corporate security, residential security assessments can help identify the

vulnerabilities that exist in and around your home; it’s important to know Goodes Security Consulting isn’t just for large companies. After the residential assessment, Goodes offers a mitigation plan to address your needs while home or away. Moving into a new home is a perfect opportunity for homeowners to learn which safety and security measures exist, and which may benefit them moving forward.

Once a potential client contacts Goodes, he will walk through security concerns and goals -what do you want to have done and why? Homeowners will then schedule a time for Goodes to visit the home, where he’ll start surveying the property from the outside and look at things like lighting, fences and gates. Then, moving inside, Goodes will inspect the windows, doors and locks before putting together a strategy that fits what the homeowner is looking for.

“Adapting to the threat the homeowner feels, whether that’s just wanting to feel safe or to prevent a burglary, is like solving a puzzle,” Goodes says. “I refer to security as an art. I talk about all different aspects of life with my clients and then suggest a strategy that fits with their lifestyle.”

It’s important to Goodes that homeowners know their security strategy is tailor made.

“IT’S REWARDING TO GIVE PEOPLE INSIGHT INTO HOW TO LIVE THEIR LIVES SAFELY WITHOUT OVERBURDENING THEM WITH WORRY OR FEAR.”

— ROGER GOODES

He wants to fit your strategy to fit your house and how you use it. He says most of the security technology, including alarms, cameras and smart locks, is now app based and can be installed by the homeowners themselves, depending on the level of security needed. Today’s technological advancements have also drastically lowered the cost of security systems, along with making them easy to use. He’ll even revisit the home after installation to confirm all security technology has been properly placed.

“It’s rewarding to give people insight into how to live their lives safely without overburdening them with worry or fear,” he says.

Goodes’ core values include integrity, collaboration, value, agility and relationships. Through these values, he has earned a high level of trust and confidence from his clients, who value his honesty, judgment and reliability. He’s also board certified in security management and has attained the Certified Protection Professional certification from ASIS International, the gold standard for security management professionals.

TRANSFORMING ADHD

ADHD LIFE MEDICAL ASSOCIATES BRINGS A HOLISTIC APPROACH TO FISHERS

Tracie Meyer, AG-ACNP, owner of ADHD Life Medical Associates, wants her patients to know she truly understands them—because she has ADHD, too.

Meyer is a Board-Certified Nurse Practitioner with 13 years of experience in Internal Medicine and 23 years in healthcare. Her passion for ADHD care began when her two sons were diagnosed, leading to her own latein-life diagnosis.

ADHD carries a strong genetic component and is highly heritable, with many adults only recognizing their own ADHD after their child is diagnosed.

Meyer recalls her own experience: “After my first son was diagnosed, I immersed myself in learning everything I could about ADHD to help him, only to realize that I faced many of the same struggles—focus, impulsivity, poor time management, and organization. My own diagnosis brought so much clarity to my past. School had been especially difficult—I had to reread everything three times just to retain it, constantly spaced out in class, in conversations, and even while driving. I always felt like I had to work three times as hard as everyone else. With the right treatment and education, I was able to develop skills I had never learned before.”

While ADHD has been recognized for centuries, our understanding has evolved significantly over the past 50 years. Notably, formal acknowledgment of ADHD in adults and girls did not emerge until the 1990s—one reason so many adults are only now receiving diagnoses.

BRIDGING THE GAP IN ADHD CARE

Through her own journey, Meyer recognized the need for comprehensive ADHD care in the community. After years of navigating treatments, school accommodations, and

continuing medical education, she founded ADHD Life Medical Associates to bridge the gap and offer in-depth diagnostic and treatment options.

Meyer stresses the importance of specialized ADHD care, emphasizing that an accurate diagnosis requires more than a simple survey. Many primary care providers seek support for more indepth evaluations than they are equipped to perform.

“LIFE

IS

A PUZZLE,

AND I LOVE USING MY MEDICAL BACKGROUND TO DISENTANGLE ALL THE PIECES FOR EACH PATIENT, HELPING THEM TO PUT THE PUZZLE BACK TOGETHER.”

ADHD: A CHALLENGE AND A SUPERPOWER

Meyer also wants to highlight that ADHD isn’t just a challenge—it’s a strength. People with ADHD are known for creativity, hyperfocus, energy, enthusiasm, resilience, adaptability, self-awareness, empathy, and humor. They are 300% more likely to start their own businesses, thrive on unconventional thinking, and seek out new experiences. ADHD Life Medical Associates focuses not only on the challenges of ADHD but also on its strengths.

COMPREHENSIVE ADHD SERVICES AT ADHD LIFE MEDICAL ASSOCIATES

ADHD Life Medical Associates has been fully operational since January 2025. The clinic offers a holistic approach to ADHD care, including:

Medical Management – A thorough evaluation and diagnosis process, including screening for learning disabilities and personalized treatment plans. Medication management is available when necessary for ADHD, anxiety, and depression.

GeneSight Testing – A genetic test that helps determine which medications may work best based on an individual’s DNA.

Executive Function Coaching – A structured,

personalized approach to improve organization, focus, and follow-through. Patients receive assessments of executive function strengths and weaknesses, goal setting, strategy development, and ongoing support.

MindPrint Cognitive Testing (for ages 3rd grade–21 years) – A one-hour, at-home assessment that identifies cognitive strengths and challenges, screens for giftedness and learning disabilities, provides actionable resources for parents and students and helps high schoolers determine whether they will perform better on the SAT or ACT. Meyer emphasizes that this test is valuable for all students, not just those with ADHD.

FRESH UNIQUE LOCAL

INDIANAPOLIS YACHT CLUB

Nestled along the waters of Geist Reservoir, the Indianapolis Yacht Club (IYC) offers more than just a place to dock a boat. It’s a lively community where friendships are made, families create lasting memories and members enjoy numerous amenities in an idyllic setting.

The IYC offers two primary membership types: Social Membership and Boating Membership. Both membership options require a one-time initiation fee and annual dues, ensuring members enjoy premium services and facilities year-round.

Social Membership grants members access to all club events, use of the pool (open from May through October) and the opportunity to join the waitlist for a boat slip. Social members can also take advantage of courtesy slips, allowing them to bring their boats to the club temporarily, even if they don’t have a permanent slip.

Boating Membership is reserved for members who have secured a boat slip through the club’s annual dock drawing, which takes place every February. The drawing is based on seniority, so the earlier someone becomes a social member, the better their chances of

upgrading to a boating membership when slips become available.

Beyond boating, the IYC is a thriving social hub, offering a diverse calendar packed with family-friendly events, live entertainment and engaging activities. Every Friday night, members can enjoy alternating events like trivia nights and live music, while bigger events such as dances and themed parties take place in the upstairs event space. The club also hosts frequent line-dancing nights, bringing members together for evenings filled with fun.

For those looking to meet new people in the community, the IYC provides an inviting and welcoming atmosphere. “I originally joined four years ago when I was new to the area,” says Elizabeth Jusino, chairman of the board at IYC. “It was a great way to meet people, build friendships and feel connected to my new community.”

Whether you’re an empty-nester looking for a new social scene, a family searching for activities to enjoy together or just wanting a relaxing escape after work, the IYC has something to offer.

The club’s amenities go beyond the docks and event spaces. Chef Paul Kim, owner of Salt & Smoke by Seoul Fresh, operates the club’s grill, offering members delicious

dining options during social events and the summertime. The club provides a comfortable and scenic setting including an upper deck with beautiful water views.

Members also receive discounted rates on event rentals, making the club the perfect choice for hosting weddings, anniversaries, business meetings and other special celebrations. With its newly updated facilities, the IYC is the ideal venue for a nautical-themed wedding or an elegant gathering.

For those interested in experiencing the IYC firsthand, the club hosts guest events and open houses throughout the year. These events provide potential members with the chance to see the facilities, meet current members and get a feel for the club’s welcoming atmosphere.

Joining the IYC isn’t just about having access to a boat slip or a pool; it’s about becoming part of a welcoming community of people who love the water, socializing and making the most of life on Geist Reservoir.

LETTER FROM THE MAYOR

Dear Residents,

It’s an honor to collaborate with Fishers Magazine on another edition of the Fishers Relocation Guide. This year marks another exciting chapter in Fishers history. As I reflect on the last decade, I’ve had the pleasure of being the mayor of Fishers, and we have transformed our community from a small suburb into Indiana’s fourth-largest city, thanks to strategic investments in infrastructure, economic development and recreational spaces. In fact, we’ve increased parks and trails acreage by 61% over the past decade alone.

This year we continue that progress. Our parks and trails are expanding to meet the needs of our growing community. New and improved trails, including the 96th Street bridge over the Nickel Plate Trail (completed fall 2025), the Geist Greenway, and the Heritage Park bridge which will connect to Carmel’s Hazel Landing Park (completed late summer 2025), all work together to enhance our city’s connectivity and outdoor recreation options. Additionally, the new Fishers Community Center, opening November 2025, will offer residents a premier facility for health, fitness and recreation.

The Fishers Event Center continues to bring vitality to our city, and the expanding restaurant and retail scene at The

Crossing will make it an even more dynamic destination. AgriPark 2.0 will bring even more families access to fresh produce in west Fishers.

Fishers remains a leader in attracting businesses, especially in life sciences. Companies like INCOG BioPharma Services and Stevanato Group have invested over $1.2 billion, creating 1,000 high-quality jobs. The addition of Plug and Play at Launch Fishers will foster innovation, while the new Target store on the east side will increase convenience and create local jobs.

As we look ahead to the rest of 2025, there’s much to be excited about. Our ongoing investments in parks, trails and infrastructure, along with our thriving business environment, will continue to make Fishers a community of innovation and opportunity. It’s been a true honor to serve as your mayor for the past 10 years, and I look forward to continuing to work alongside all of you to make Fishers an even better place to live, work and play.

Yours in service,

Letting Go: A Mom’s Journey to Kindergarten

As a first-time mom, I’ve cherished every milestone – celebrating the first words, the first steps, and the first time my child looked at me and said, “Mama.” I’ve also cried on the hard, exhausting days, leaning on the support and wisdom of those who have raised thriving, happy children for guidance.

But nothing quite prepares you for the moment your baby – now an excited, independent learner – walks into their new school for the first day of kindergarten. You’ve seen your friends’ social media posts filled with bright smiles and holding “First Day of School” signs, and you thought you were ready, but it still doesn’t ease the ache in your heart. After all, this is a new beginning, not just for them but for you, too.

A Year of Growth

Kindergarten is more than just an academic start. It’s learning to trust that your child is ready, that their teachers will nurture and love them, and that school will become their second home. And at Hamilton Southeastern Schools, that’s exactly what happens.

Enrolling Your Kindergartener

Hamilton Southeastern Schools offers full-day kindergarten at its 13 elementary buildings. To enroll, children must be five-years-old on or before August 1, 2025. Families may apply for early entrance if their child will turn five on or before September 30, 2025.

With small class sizes, dedicated teachers, and a hands-on curriculum, students are set up for success. They explore language, problemsolving, and gain a better understanding of the world around them, while also developing socially and emotionally.

Beyond the classroom, they’ll experience art, music, and physical education, eat lunch in the cafeteria, and make new friends on the playground. Most importantly, they’ll gain confidence, curiosity, and a love for learning in a safe, supportive environment.

It’s bittersweet, but I found the process easy – and by enrolling now, you can begin building excitement for what’s to come. Your family will also have the opportunity to visit your child’s new school during Kindergarten Open House set for April 17, 2025 at 5 p.m., and see firsthand the incredible experiences that await.

You’ll Be Okay – And So Will They

Now, as a mom to a soon-to-be first grader, I look back on this past year and realize how much we both grew. The tears I shed on that first day turned into smiles as I watch my child learning, making connections, and coming home with endless stories to tell.

So, if you’re on the verge of sending your little one to kindergarten, know this: They are ready. And so are you.

HISTORICAL TOUR OF FISHERS

The Fishers Magazine and the Fishers Historical Society welcome you to Fishers. We are thrilled you have chosen our great city to live and work in. Fishers is a vibrant community continually recognized as one of the safest cities in the U.S. It has one of the best school systems in the state. It is a great place to raise a family, and there are many family-friendly activities to keep you busy.

Fishers has long been a rural town ever since its founding. In 1990 Fishers had a population of around 7,500 people. Then came the suburban migration as people moved from Indianapolis to the suburbs. With Interstate 69 going through the town, Fishers was in a great position for growth. The population has now exceeded 100,000 people, and it continues to grow. In 2012 Fishers changed from a town to a city, which reflected its growth. Although many of its rural roots have been replaced, it is the mission of the Fishers Historical Society to preserve and educate the public about the city’s history.

A brief history of Fishers begins in 1872

when Salathiel Fisher, a farmer who moved to the area from North Carolina, founded the city. The site was chosen because it was along the Peru & Indianapolis railroad line, which had been completed in 1851. The town was originally called Fisher’s Station, and when a railroad switch was installed, the town became known as Fisher’s Switch. Sometime after 1900, the post office dropped Switch from the name and the apostrophe soon afterward. You also may see or hear the name Mudsock used frequently to refer to Fishers. It was not an official name, but rather a nickname given to the city that has been adopted for youth sports leagues and the annual FishersHamilton Southeastern football game. The name was derived from when the roads were dirt, and in the absence of drainage ditches, people would sink into the mud up to their socks.

Join us as we tour Fishers and learn about our great city’s rich and unique history. Our tour begins at the Conner Prairie Living History Park. Before Indiana became a state in 1816, William Conner settled in

this area along the White River, even as the indigenous tribes controlled it. William Conner married Mekinges, the daughter of a local Indian chief. Eventually the Native Americans were forced from their land, and Conner stayed behind while his family fled. People came from far and wide to trade with Conner, making him one of the most important people in the county, even before it was called Hamilton County.

In 1934 Eli Lilly bought the property to preserve it, and it has become a museum and a Smithsonian affiliate. You can step back in time to 1816 and experience the Lenape Indian village or immerse yourself in a 19th-century village in Prairietown. One of the highlights is to take a hot-air balloon ride and be transported back to 1859. Conner Prairie hosts yearly festivals such as History on Tap, Headless Horseman, and A Merry Prairie Holiday. There is much to do there and you will not be disappointed.

Leaving Conner Prairie, you will head south on Allisonville Road. This road was

originally State Road 37 and was once ranked as one of the most dangerous roads in the country. As you approach 126th, the road dips in an area known as Heady Hollow. It has a spooky feel, and over the decades people have reported hearing strange noises as they traveled through this area. Before the automobile, horses were known to get spooked. After the automobile, there was a high rate of car crashes. Between 1951 and 1953, there was an average of 11 deaths a year. As you drive through this area, what do you see and hear?

As you travel east on 116th Street, you will eventually find yourself in downtown Fishers. This has always been the heart and soul of this community. There are many shops and restaurants in downtown for you to experience. A new hotel, the Nickel Plate, just opened up its doors. At the Municipal Complex, you will find the newly renovated City Hall and Art Center, flanked by the police and fire departments. Behind City Hall you will find the amphitheater, which

hosts concerts and live performances throughout the year and the annual Spark!Fishers festival.

But while you are walking through downtown, don’t forget about its rich history. Some buildings, such as the Nickel Plate restaurant and the grain elevator, are no longer there. But if you look on 116th Street, across from the First Internet Bank building, you will find two brick buildings that stick out. The building close to Handel’s Ice Cream is the Trittipo building, which was built in 1886. Sam Trittipo was a beloved resident of Fishers, but he also

had enemies. He and his family were the target of three bombing incidents, none of which were ever solved. The space next to the Trittipo building once housed the Fishers National Bank, which folded during the Great Depression. Also in this area, the infamous Battle of Mudsock took place. In 1881 a bar brawl broke out between two rival saloons that lasted two days and ended with one person dying. The incident made international headlines.

While you are downtown, you may have walked along a paved trail, part of which goes underneath 116th Street. This was

once the Nickel Plate railroad. The railroad helped give Fishers a reputation for being rough and rowdy, but it also helped the city survive as small towns around it vanished. As late as the 2010s, the railroad ceased to be an active line, instead offering residents a ride to the Indiana State Fair and holiday celebrations like Polar Express. Eventually the city repurposed the railroad line and turned it into a walking and biking trail. The trail will eventually extend from Pleasant Street in Noblesville down through Indianapolis.

From downtown, travel east on 116th Street to Hoosier Road and visit Highland Cemetery. As one of the oldest cemeteries in Fishers, the Fisher family, along with many prominent residents, are interred here. This cemetery also has a unique history. Fishers was embroiled in a grave robbing scandal at the turn of the 20th century. A gunfight broke out in the cemetery over the robbing of a grave. The robberies led to a sensational trial in Indianapolis and

Noblesville. The grave robbings led the legislature to establish the state anatomical board in 1902, to abolish the practice. In 2022 Fishers received its first state historical marker recognizing how the grave robbings affected the state. This marker can be found on Brooks School Road at the Fall Creek Township Trustee Office, a historic schoolhouse dating back to the 1800s.

If boating and fishing interest you, head south on Brooks School Road and visit Geist Lake. One of the largest man-made lakes in the state, it is a popular boating and fishing area. During the summer, live music can be heard from Wolfies Grill as boats dock for dinner on the water. The Indianapolis Sailing Club calls Geist home, and they offer sailing lessons and host a regatta every year. Before Geist was created in 1941, Germantown, a small village founded in 1834, occupied the area. The Indianapolis Water Company bought the land surrounding Germantown, eventually forcing the residents to sell. Germantown is

now nothing more than a few foundations located beneath the water.

We hope you have learned a little bit about the history of Fishers on our tour. We encourage you to learn more as you explore our great city. We would love for you to follow the Fishers Historical Society on our Facebook page and get involved. If you want to know more about some of the places we toured, be sure to read the book “Wicked Fishers”.

FIVE THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT FISHERS

1. FISHERS IS A PLACE OF FIRSTS.

It’s home to Indiana’s first Smithsonian affiliate, Conner Prairie, a nationally acclaimed, living-history destination spanning more than 1,000 acres. It is also the site of the state’s first Internet of Things Lab, Indiana IoT Lab-Fishers, a launching pad for new tech companies and epicenter of innovation. Fishers also boasts some of the largest assets in the region, and even the country. It’s home to one of the nation’s largest urban farms, the Fishers AgriPark; the largest midsize event center in the Indy region, the Fishers Event Center; and the largest co-working space in the Midwest, Launch Fishers. With a vision to be smart, vibrant and entrepreneurial, Fishers strives to embrace innovation, take risks, and work to improve not only Hamilton County, but the entire region and state. Elected in 2015, Mayor Scott Fadness is Fishers’ first and only mayor to date, and serves as chair of the Central Indiana Regional Development Authority.

2. SAFETY IS A PRIORITY.

Fishers was recognized as the fourthsafest city in America for 2025 by MoneyGeek. Fishers Police and Fishers Fire & Emergency Services not only protect and serve the community, but also host an array of public engagement and education initiatives including citizen academies, cul-de-sac drills, free car-seat inspection clinics, vacation watch services, and events like Safety Day and National Night Out. Fishers Health Department - one of the state’s only municipal health departments - also keeps residents safe through vaccinations and testing, including free COVID testing, along with mental health services and a fall-prevention program. The health department also manages a food grading scale for all Fishers restaurants, requiring them to post their food letter grade on their exterior door or window.

3. FISHERS OFFERS WORLDCLASS ENTERTAINMENT AND CULINARY OPTIONS.

With new restaurants like Tilly’s Tea Room, Tiburon Coastal Cuisine and Café Patachou Nickel Plate, Fishers is quickly becoming a culinary destination. The entertainment scene is no different. The Fishers Event Center, located in the Fishers District, hosts national concert tours and local sports teams including Indy Fuel, Indy Ignite and Fishers Freight.

4. OUTDOOR RECREATION IS BIG.

With Geist Reservoir - home of Geist Waterfront Park - anchoring the city in the east, and the state-designated Ritchey Woods Nature Preserve to the west, Fishers boasts an array of unique park properties covering nearly 800 acres. There’s the Fishers AgriPark, an urban farm with animal encounters, free U-pick vegetables and flowers, and educational programming centered around Fishers’ agricultural roots. Then there’s the Nickel Plate Trail, a former rail-line-turned-pedestrian-path, connecting southern and northern Fishers from 96th Street to 146th Street, and extending into neighboring cities. The Nickel Plate Trail is part of Fishers’ expansive 131-mile trail system, which also features the newly added, five-mile Geist Greenway on the east side of the city. Coming in late 2025, Fishers White River Park will bring new opportunities for outdoor recreation to southwest Fishers and access to enjoy one of the region’s biggest natural assets, the White River. There’s also Fishers’ annual Geist Half Marathon, 10K and 5K each fall, featuring rolling hills and scenic views of Geist Reservoir.

5. FISHERS’ NICKEL PLATE DISTRICT IS A PLACE FOR ART, CULTURE AND COMMUNITY.

Fishers’ downtown Nickel Plate District is a Statewide Cultural District celebrating arts, culture and the city’s unique heritage. The district features boutiques, galleries, design studios, breweries, coffee shops and makerspaces. The Fishers Art Center features a performance theater, art galleries, and classes operated by the Indianapolis Art Center. The award-winning performing arts venue, the Nickel Plate District Amphitheater, hosts free Tuesday Night Concerts for residents throughout the summer, along with ticketed shows featuring national touring acts and the popular Blues Fest on Labor Day weekend. Also home to vibrant public artworks and community festivals like the Fishers Farmers Market and Spark!Fishers, the Nickel Plate District is truly the cultural epicenter of Fishers.

GAMEDAY MEN’S HEALTH

It didn’t make sense. Scott Sargent was a healthy 50-year-old man, yet he couldn’t make it through the day without taking a 30-minute nap. He knew this wasn’t normal, so he asked his primary-care doctor to prescribe testosterone. For three years, every physician Sargent saw denied his request, telling him that his levels were normal, and that fatigue was part of getting older. Then he found Gameday Men’s Health in Southern California, a clinic that offers a welcoming environment and promises patients the ability to get in quickly for an appointment, and a fast but thorough evaluation process.

“I was tested, diagnosed and treated for hormone therapy in one hour,” says Sargent.

Gameday Men’s Health is now the largest men’s health clinic in the country, providing service that includes an in-house lab so patients get lab results immediately, enabling them to receive their first testosterone injection that same day if they are ready to start therapy. And this is all at no charge. The bloodwork includes both testosterone levels and PSA markers to screen for prostate cancer.

At the end of this initial appointment, patients can decide if they want to start treatment or think it over. Either way, it’s a no-pressure situation.

Sargent learned from a Gameday Men’s Health clinician that “normal” parameters on testing reports are very wide, and that while a person’s test results may fall within 80% of the population, this doesn’t mean they are functioning optimally.

Sargent was so impressed with the process - and his health results after undergoing testosterone therapy - that when he found out the franchise was opening in Indiana, he jumped at the chance to become a franchise administrator. He opened the Carmel location in April 2024 and is opening a second location in Fishers in May 2025.

Common complaints men have include low energy, reduced mental clarity, subpar workout results and lukewarm libido.

“If a guy is depressed, lacks energy, can’t get off the couch, doesn’t want to be social, isn’t motivated to exercise and doesn’t feel confident, that’s not a great frame of mind to take on life,” Sargent says.

In addition to testosterone health, Gameday Men’s Health offers weight-loss services, vitamin injections and erectile enhancement. Testosterone replacement therapy is what gets most people through the door, however, and the demand for it is starting to accelerate. Testosterone can be administered through injections, pellets, oral tablets or creams.

Most patients who visit the clinic are between 25 and 50 years old. Although one may assume that older patients would benefit the most from their services, it turns out that men of all ages can have low testosterone.

“Many 25-year-olds have the testosterone levels of 70-year-old men,” says Sargent, noting that testosterone is plummeting globally for a number of reasons, including pollution, antibodies in our food chain, poor diet, and microplastics that get into the testicles.

Sargent acknowledges that a stigma surrounds men seeking hormone treatment, but that’s because often they neither understand what it involves, nor realize how much better they can feel upon receiving treatment. Once they do, they are believers.

Gameday Men’s Health is located at 11876 Olio Road, Suite 200 in Fishers, and 301 East Carmel Drive, Suite F-300 in Carmel.
