TREASURE GAME$ HEADED TO THE HOOSIER STATE
INDIANA WILL BE PART OF NATIONWIDE TREASURE-HUNTING GAME’S MIDWEST REGION
Writer / Matt Keating
Dirk Gibson and his Treasure Game$ (TG) have been changing lives for the better, and he can’t wait to do the same in many regions of the United States, including, possibly, Indiana.
Gibson’s TG platform puts thousands of people on the road in search of a Wish Lamp - a real lamp worth a lot of money.
Last March a couple from New Mexico, Ron Novak and Michelle Bush, became the only winners. They found the lamp in Dallas, Texas, using a clue from a “Seinfeld” episode. They had an option of winning $1 million in cash, or three wishes worth $1.2 million. They opted for the three wishes.
Gibson said he loves being able to help people with his game. TG provides liveaction, tech-driven, real-life treasure-hunting games and entertainment.
“It is a little surreal when you
having a real impact in real people’s lives - and that is very rewarding after years of work to build the platform.”
Gibson said Indiana is part of four regions for the new treasure search.
change someone’s life in a significant way through something you created,” Gibson said. “For me, I was so happy for them and so touched by how much it impacted their lives in a way that is life altering. Seeing good people work hard and earn the prize, and fulfill their dreams, is very rewarding because they deserve it, and I am proud that we provided a platform for them to make their dreams come true.”
Gibson enjoys seeing TG change lives.
“I was also proud that the Treasure Game$ platform was providing such a great life adventure while making dreams come true for real people,” he said. “It is so great to see people out there with their families and loved ones having real adventures and making memories together treasure hunting. This type of nationwide, high-value, live-action treasure-hunt experience did not exist in the world until we created it, and now we get to see the vision become reality, and actually
“The Region Indiana is in activates on August 1, and the lamp that will be found is worth $200,000,” he said. “The Day 1 Poem will come out on Launch Day, and if someone deciphers it, they could find the Lamp on the first day.”
Gibson noted that two clues are released every day after that, until the Lamp is found.
“All of the states in that region will be the inspiration for the clue creators initially,” he said. “Then the clues will start narrowing down to the Lamp location state and area within the state, as time goes on in the treasure-hunt season.”
Gibson said there is a lot of research involved.
“Our treasure hunters will learn a lot about Indiana and the other states in the region, because they have to do research to solve the clues every day,” he said. “And if the Lamp is in Indiana, then they will also learn a lot about the specific city/town it is in. I can’t
really say much more, other than it is in a very cool location, whatever that means.”
“For Region 4, there is a $200,000 payment, not $1 million, as three wishes do not come with this region. The region of Indiana, which is Region 4, activates on August 1. Region 4 also includes Illinois, Ohio, Michigan and Wisconsin, so players in those states can play.”
Gibson is an award-winning producer of the History Channel’s “Mountain Men,” and the “Young Guns” series. He has also built and operated successful companies in travel, adventure, health care, real estate, risk management, and entertainment.
Gibson was inspired to start the game to help other people.
“I wanted to build a better model for spreading wealth than the lottery, where every day people had a real shot at winning life-changing money all the time by using skill and hard work to increase their odds of winning,” he said. “Our model spreads wealth differently in that as we grow, we will have more games and more regions activated all the time, resulting in thousands of people winning versus one person winning a major jackpot every three to four months.”
Gibson said TG is much more than a nationwide treasure-hunting platform, and aims to spread more wealth to more people than any other company on earth.
“We have also created a positive platform where our treasure hunters upload their treasure-seeking adventure content inside our platform, creating a community that is fun, uplifting and uniting,” Gibson said. “This type of sharing inside our platform is bringing humans together for real-life fun and adventure while changing lives. This is one of the elements that makes TG so special and needed in today’s world. TG is a beacon of hope for humanity. Everyone is welcome, and we hope to lift everyone’s spirit by being engaged with our platform.”

BOATING AND WATER SAFETY ON GEIST RESERVOIR
Boating and watercraft activities are immensely popular on Indiana’s beautiful Geist Reservoir, drawing enthusiasts from near and far to enjoy its scenic waters. However, with this enjoyment comes the responsibility of ensuring boater safety. The Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) plays a crucial role in promoting watercraft safety on Geist Reservoir, providing guidelines, regulations and resources to help boaters navigate the waters safely. Here’s a comprehensive overview of boater watercraft safety on Geist Reservoir, highlighting key practices and regulations enforced by the Indiana DNR.
1. KNOWLEDGE OF REGULATIONS
Before embarking on a boating excursion on Geist Reservoir, it’s essential for boaters to familiarize themselves with Indiana’s boating regulations. The Indiana DNR publishes a comprehensive guide outlining state-specific boating laws, rules and requirements. Understanding these regulations helps ensure compliance and promotes safe boating practices on the reservoir. Key regulations include
requirements for boater education, registration and operation of watercraft.
2. BOATER EDUCATION
Boater education is a cornerstone of watercraft safety on Geist Reservoir. The Indiana DNR offers boater education courses designed to educate boaters of all ages and experience levels on safe boating practices, navigation rules and emergency procedures. Completion of a boater education course may be mandatory for certain age groups or operators of specific types of watercraft. By arming boaters with essential knowledge and skills, boater education plays a vital role in preventing accidents and promoting safety on the water.
3. PERSONAL FLOTATION DEVICES (PFDS)
The use of PFDs is paramount to boater safety on Geist Reservoir. Indiana law requires that all watercraft be equipped with properly fitting, U.S. Coast Guardapproved PFDs for each person on board. Additionally, children under a certain age are typically required to wear a PFD while
the vessel is underway. Boaters should ensure that PFDs are readily accessible and in good condition before setting out on the water. Wearing a PFD significantly reduces the risk of drowning in the event of an accident or capsize, making it a crucial safety precaution for all boaters.
4. SAFE OPERATION PRACTICES
Safe operation practices are essential for preventing accidents and ensuring the well-being of all watercraft users on Geist Reservoir. Boaters should adhere to speed limits, maintain a safe distance from other vessels and operate their watercraft in a responsible manner at all times. Avoiding reckless behavior, such as excessive speed, weaving through traffic, or operating under the influence of drugs or alcohol, is crucial for preventing accidents and preserving safety on the reservoir. Additionally, boaters should be vigilant for hazards such as submerged objects, shallow water areas and inclement weather conditions, adjusting their speed and course as necessary to avoid potential dangers.
5. ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP
Environmental stewardship is an integral aspect of boater safety and responsible watercraft usage on Geist Reservoir. Boaters should take care to minimize their environmental impact by properly disposing of trash and recyclables, avoiding the release of pollutants or harmful substances into the water, and respecting wildlife and natural habitats. By practicing responsible environmental stewardship, boaters can help preserve the beauty and ecological integrity of Geist Reservoir for future generations to enjoy.
Boater watercraft safety on Geist Reservoir is a shared responsibility among all watercraft users, enforced and promoted by the Indiana DNR. By adhering to these five practices, boaters can enjoy the waters of Geist Reservoir safely and responsibly. Through a commitment to safety and awareness, boaters can help ensure that Geist Reservoir remains a cherished recreational destination for years to come.
More information about boater safety and education can be found at in.gov/dnr/ law-enforcement/education/boatingeducation-and-safety.
LIGHTING UP THE NIGHT
GET READY FOR THE ANNUAL GEIST FOURTH OF JULY FIREWORKS DISPLAY
For most people, the Fourth of July is a day to relax and spend time with family and friends.
For longtime Fishers resident Marty Miller, it’s go time. As Mad Bomber Fireworks Productions’ Midwest regional vice president, Miller’s team is at the helm of the Geist fireworks display.
“Many people know I am one of the faces behind the scenes for not only the Geist Lake display, but also the Spark!Fishers display and two other fireworks displays at Holland Park and Cyntheanne Park on July 4th,” he says. “There is a lot of extra pride and
care taken with all of these displays to make sure they are the absolute best they can be. There are lots of eyes watching and everything must go as planned to make sure Fishers and Geist residents are left in awe.”
Miller has handled the fireworks display over Geist for the last 20 years. His involvement in the community goes well beyond one day a year. He has served as athletic director at Holy Spirit Parish at Geist and coached all four of his kids in what he says are just about every sport the city offers, adding up to about 40 seasons total.
Miller began learning the ins and outs of fireworks displays when his family became involved in the industry when he was a child. “Growing up with the excitement of either helping or putting on displays for the last 46 years has never gone away,” he says. “A lot of people get scared or nervous in those situations because there is a ton of pressure on you. When shows are choreographed, that brings an extra level of nerves.”
Miller says he channels that pressure into laser focus to deliver a world-class experience. “There is nothing more exciting than hearing kudos from your friends and neighbors when your show goes exactly as planned,” he says. “That is everything when you are a pyrotechnician.”
Over the last few years, Mad Bomber Fireworks has expanded to include mixing drones with fireworks for weddings, high school homecomings, corporate events and more around the Midwest.

FORMER “BLAST ON THE BRIDGE” EMCEE TOM BRITT WILL HOST FROM HIS PONTOON DOCKED AT THE GEIST MARINA.
Towne Post Network is proud to announce this year’s July 4th fireworks show at Geist Reservoir will include a live radio simulcast on 92.7 FM.
Starting at 9:00 PM on Thursday, July 4, the broadcast will be hosted by Tom Britt, CEO of the Towne Post Network and former “Blast on the Bridge” emcee.
Attendees of the fireworks show will be able to listen to live pre-show commentary with a synchronized soundtrack to the fireworks scheduled to begin between 10:00-10:15 PM.
“After ‘Blast on the Bridge’ was canceled a few years ago due to security concerns, we wanted to bring back the music and pre-show fun without shutting down the bridge,” said Towne Post Network CEO and longtime Geist resident Tom Britt. “Listening to patriotic music synchronized to the fireworks really adds to the experience.”

PASSION FOR PRESERVATION
LOCAL GROUP MAKING EFFORT TO ESTABLISH A GEIST CONSERVANCY DISTRICT
Story by Renee Larr
Geist Reservoir is a vibrant center of spring, summer and fall outdoor activities. Its creation in 1943, by damming Fall Creek to provide water for Indianapolis, marked a significant milestone. It swiftly became Indiana’s second-largest human-made lake. However, the recent rapid development has left its mark. Geist Conservancy, driven by a deep commitment, is dedicated to safeguarding the ecological needs of Geist Reservoir for the years to come.
“About 20 years ago a group of volunteers started the Geist Coalition,” says Joni Forestal, program director for Geist Conservancy. “The group was started to help take care of Geist’s needs. No one really knew who to call if there were issues such as logs in the water or missing buoys. In the last five years this coalition has taken steps to establish Geist Conservancy District, to have one governing body making decisions on how to care for its treatment and to keep the reservoir alive and well for years to come.”
One of the most prominent issues facing the reservoir is the growth of an invasive form of algae called Eurasian milfoil. As it grows, it spreads across the water, forming a thick blanket on the surface. This growth completely blocks out sunlight and kills the native aquatic plants that fish and other underwater species rely on for food and shelter.
“A reservoir like ours has a life expectancy of just over 100 years,” Forestal warns.
“Currently no one is taking care of it. If we don’t act, the reservoir will gradually become too shallow and eventually cease to exist. The water will be overrun with invasive species such as algae and milfoil. Geist Conservancy is making efforts to treat the water, but it’s not as effective as it could be. Your support is crucial in this race against time.”
The Geist Conservancy District, if approved, will play a crucial role in the future of Geist Reservoir. Each waterfront property will be assessed based on its value to determine the contribution for water treatment. To pass, the state statute requires 30% of signatures from waterfront homeowners and 50% of the assessed value. This is a significant step towards the preservation of the reservoir.
Geist Conservancy’s Summer Kickoff open house on May 30 was a platform to educate waterfront property owners and rally support for the Reservoir Conservancy District Petition. The event also marked the start of weekly algae treatments. Forestal stresses that one of the key advantages for homeowners is the significant cost reduction. Currently the volunteer contribution for treatment is $1,200. If the district is approved, the cost would be a little over $400 per waterfront homeowner.
“Geist is our home, where we create lasting memories,” Forestal says. “We all have a responsibility to protect it and ensure its preservation for future generations. Let’s not wait for Geist to suffer the same fate as St. Mary’s Lake in Ohio. We can either stand by and watch Geist deteriorate, or we can unite and preserve it.”
Forestal says a second key takeaway is that if the Geist Conservancy District is passed, there will be an elected board, so those individuals worrying about the decisions being made can have a voice in who they elect on the board.

GEIST GREENWAY PROGRESS UPDATE
& Recreation Department
The Geist Greenway is now open from 104th Street to Geist Park (10979 Florida Road), and from Geist Park to 126th Street. Once completed, the five-mile pedestrian path will stretch from 96th Street to 131st Street, enhancing recreational opportunities and pedestrian connectivity on Fishers’ east side. With the addition of this trail, Fishers’ extensive trail system grows to 131 miles.
GEIST GREENWAY
The Geist Greenway will be an approximately five-mile pedestrian path, stretching north and south from 96th Street to 131st Street. A typical section of the trail will be 18 feet wide, allowing for two 7-foot pedestrian lanes and 2-foot shoulders.
The goal for this proposed Greenway is to increase connectivity for surrounding pedestrians and bicyclists in eastern Fishers, as well as provide for additional recreational opportunities within the community.
The City of Fishers is investing significantly in the Geist Greenway trail construction. The total design cost for both phases of the Geist Greenway is $944,000. The construction cost, which includes the
realignment of Florida Road, amounts to $4.2 million. This funding includes $1.7 million from local sources and $2.5 million in federal funds from the Metropolitan Planning Organization/ Indiana Department of Transportation. This investment underscores our commitment to enhancing our community’s infrastructure and recreational opportunities.
