GEIST ELEMENTARY WELCOMES DR. THERISA SEYMOUR AS NEW PRINCIPAL
Writer / Amie Drudge
Dr. Therisa Seymour, Geist Elementary’s new principal, defines herself as someone who sparks the energy of connectionwhere people feel seen, heard and valued. Who better to mold the minds of our little children here in Fishers than an individual who understands this essential value?
Her educational journey has been key to her success. After graduating from Ball State
University with a degree in elementary education, she went on to obtain a master’s degree in school counseling and mental health counseling. She taught at the elementary level for 10 years and was an elementary school counselor for eight years in Westfield schools. During that time she went back to school to get her administrative license, where she then came to Hamilton Southeastern Schools as an
assistant principal in 2016.
She landed at Fall Creek Elementary in Fishers where her husband, Rob, one of the athletic directors at Fishers High School, attended elementary school years earlier, and where his grandmother worked in the cafeteria. Rob’s dad attended also elementary school there, and his mom worked in the cafeteria as well. Their son,
Cale, attended third and fourth grade at Fall Creek Elementary.
Finally, Seymour’s love for knowledge and education led her to obtain a doctorate in organizational management in 2022. Seymour says her drive for learning helps her better serve all stakeholders.
Seymour is focused on building relationships with others in her school community. Teachers, staff, parents and community - she sees the importance of each one and how it is integral to the success and development of the child. As Seymour transitions into this new role over the summer, she has had coffee chats with every single staff member at her school, and has also met with the principal on the playground in order to connect with her students and families. Her message to the community is one of gratitude and inclusion.
“We deeply appreciate the support,” she says. “We want you involved and we want to tap into your expertise to enrich our students’ academic experiences. Reach out to me to see how we can develop this partnership. We are in the business of growing students academically to be the future citizens of our community.”
With Seymour leading the way at Geist Elementary, our children will be seen, heard and valued, fostering a lasting sense of belonging as they develop into lifelong learners. Follow her Twitter page @ TherisaSeymour as she documents the learning of the Geist Gators throughout the school year.
“We deeply appreciate the support. We want you involved and we want to tap into your expertise to enrich our students’ academic experiences. EXPERIENCE RANDALL RESIDENCE AT GATEWAY PARK
Writer / Renee Larr
Choosing to transition from a home to a senior living community can be a challenging decision. With a legacy of nearly 50 years in senior living across the Great Lakes region, the Randall family has established a reputation for exceptional campuses and care. At Randall Residence at Gateway Park in Greenfield, their newest location, this commitment to remarkable senior living continues.
SCAN FOR MORE INFORMATION
“Randall Residence at Gateway Park is a vibrant, 55-and-up rental senior community,” explains Amanda Bryan, director of sales. “We offer a range of lifestyle options, including 32 cottages, 56 independent-living apartments, 60 assisted-living apartments, and 30 memory-care apartments. Assisted living and memory care have comprehensive service packages available, ensuring the highest level of support is always available.”
One of the unique aspects of Randall Residence at Gateway Park is its location. Nestled near the bustling Hancock Health Gateway Park, which is poised for significant development in the coming years, the community offers a vibrant and
evolving neighborhood for residents. With easy access to Hancock Health, Starbucks and the surrounding walking paths, the location is designed to promote an active and engaging lifestyle. Currently, walking trails stretch for a mile and a half, with plans to expand to three miles in the future.
The cottages are maintenance-free duplex homes with three different floor plans for potential residents. The independent-living apartments are offered in studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom floor plans, and come with a full kitchen, handicap-accessible
bathroom, spacious living and dining space, and abundant natural light. Assisted-living apartments are available in studio, onebedroom and two-bedroom floor plans. Memory care has studio and companion suites.
“We have so many options for seniors that they can truly age in place,” says Janelle Randall, marketing and brand manager. “They can move to our campus and live out the rest of their wonderful years with so many exciting amenities, excellent care and friendship.”
Some of the stimulating amenities include the Redenbacher Theater, fitness center, salon and barber shop, chapel, courtyard and picnic areas, transportation, pickleball courts, tandem tricycle, and walking paths. In addition, there are multiple dining options throughout the campus, including White River Bistro, Crossroad Cafe and Gateway Grill.
“We have a lot of unique activity spaces throughout the building,” Bryan says. “We have an activity center and a magnificent space for arts and crafts. Also, we have a multipurpose room called the Riley Center. We use that for various large-group activities such as our resident birthday parties, bingo, and resident council, where residents can speak to us about things they would like to see us doing or events they’d like to see us host.”
For the residents in assisted living and memory care, a team of highly skilled caregivers and activity coordinators assist with their daily needs. Randall says the on-campus and off-campus events are numerous, and include everything from educational and entertaining to physical and spiritual. Recent outings include an Indianapolis Indians game and a trip to the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame in New Castle.
“In memory care, for instance, we have a memory-care coordinator
who specializes in activities that help our residents with dementia and varying types of Alzheimer’s,” Bryan says. “It’s a very active social calendar with activities happening about every half an hour, so that we can try and engage them as much as possible.”
Randall Residence at Gateway Park is a private-pay facility with various tools to assist seniors and their families in planning their future living arrangements. Self-assessment evaluations and cost comparison tools help to determine what type of living plan is best for each individual’s needs.
“We want potential residents to come to our campus and get a feel for it,” Randall says. “We want them to feel what life is like at Randall Residence. Before the tour, we spend time in the Welcome Center and discuss their wants and needs. We love learning about people’s likes or dislikes, such as their need for outdoor space, for flowers and plants. For some people a view is much more important, so we work to try and fulfill those needs as best we can.”
Randall says that while Randall Residence at Gateway Park may be new to the area, it is not a new provider. She says it has a long history of providing excellent care and service to its residents.
Randall Residence at Gateway Park is located at 6338 West Quiet Road in Greenfield. For more information, call 317-707-9931 or visit randallresidence.com/gateway.

THE COMPLETE GUIDE TO THE INDIANA STATE FAIR
Writer / Devon Dean
Gird your loins, grab your sunblock, antacid, and a few friends and head to the Indiana State Fair August 2-18. While there’s plenty to explore, the food competition is always a huge attraction.
This year, the “Taste of the Fair” offers a literal smorgasbord of food and drinks to try out. Definitely bring an empty stomach and an open mind. Fairgoers are encouraged to vote for their favorite new food items by visiting any of the information booths around campus or by scanning the QR code that will be available at the concession stands.
The annual competition is for more than just bragging rights. The winning food stand will receive a $2,500 cash prize, followed by the second place receiving $1,000, and third place receiving $500. In addition, for the first time our partners at the World Food Championships will award the top three winners a Golden Ticket entry to the World Food Championships event taking place in Indianapolis this fall for the first time in history at the State Fairgrounds.
FAIRGOERS CAN HIT UP TO 43 DIFFERENT STOPS ON THEIR TOUR DE EATING. THE EXPANSIVE MENU INCLUDES:

OTHER STATE FAIR ATTRACTIONS
The State Fair is always held during what is traditionally one of the hottest months of the summer. To offer a respite, the MHS Family Fun Park will include an all-new splash pad for folks of all ages to cool off.
The Olympic Games in Paris are happening at the same time as the State Fair. WTHR will host the Olympic Zone to celebrate the Hoosiers competing for Team USA. This experience promises to capture the spirit of the games even from a continent away.
The Fair is also celebrating a historic moment - 60 years ago, a small group from Liverpool called The Beatles played at Pepsi Coliseum. Fair officials are celebrating the Fab Four’s legendary stop in the Circle City on August 3 with Beatles-
themed entertainment all day, including a performance by tribute band A Hard Day’s Night and a celebration of the music of Paul McCartney.
If you’re on a budget, you’re in luck. Not only is $2 Tuesday back on the schedule, but the $5 value menu offers a variety of options for everyone in the family.
Finally, the concert line-up for the fair is a mix of all genres of music. Gladys Knight, Buddy Guy, Bell Biv Devoe, Lita Ford, and Dogstar are just a few of the artists playing the Hoosier
Lottery Free Stage.
If you are not familiar, Dogstar’s bassist is best known for his role as John Wick.
Discounted tickets and the complete schedule are available at IndianaStateFair. com. Don’t forget - the fair folk need their rest too and are closed on Mondays.
If you hit up the Indiana State Fair, be sure to share your photos on the Towne Post social media Facebook pages.
FAST PHENOM
AT AGE 18, AL MOREY IV IS ALREADY MAKING A NAME FOR HIMSELF IN MOTORSPORTS
Writer / Amie Drudge
In the blistering heat of midsummer, the asphalt shimmers under the relentless sun as Al Morey IV begins his pre-race ritual: a quiet walk back to his trailer, two chocolate chip cookies, and Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Free Bird” playing on his AirPods as he mentally prepares to dominate the racetrack.
It starts quietly and calmly, but you’ve heard the song. When it ends, Morey is in the zone. He puts on his helmet and steps into his Lamborghini Super Trofeo. It’s go time.
Years of preparation, studying the car and the road, multiple races - this is what he lives for. No thinking. That part has already been
done. Speed, skill, instinct…and a win!
A 2024 Hamilton Southeastern High School graduate, Morey is just 18 years old. When asked what one word describes him, “driven” is his word choice. He’s not wrong, as he has already tasted victory and been in the winner’s circle, all while earning his high school diploma and an acceptance to Butler University with an academic scholarship.
“Al is a student of racing,” says Al Morey III, his father and manager. “He takes notes and studies the track. He asks questions of his coaches and listens when they tell him how to be better.”
Morey will never stop being a student of his game, and this is what makes him so remarkable at such a young age.
Morey started racing indoor go-karts at the age of 9, and a few years later at age 14, he won his first championship and was hand-picked by a professional team. After a year of outdoor karting, Jay Howard Driver Development (JHDD) placed him in a Formula 4 car.
From there, Morey continued his journey in the open-wheel ladder and found himself racing for JHDD in the USF Pro
Championships in 2023 (his first full season of professional racing, where he finished 11th of 33 in the overall standings). After a long off season of testing various types of race cars, Morey landed with an Indianapolis-based racing team to pilot the #28 Lamborghini Super Trofeo for the 2024 season and beyond.
Morey has been picked up by several sponsors and is looking forward to more partnerships. What he looks for in a sponsor is a mutually beneficial relationship. “I don’t just want someone’s money,” he says. “I want to invest in them as much as they are investing in me. When
someone puts their name on my race car, I make it my job to be sure that they see a return on their investment.”
To learn more about partnership inquiries, you can visit his website at moreymotorsports.com. Be sure to follow his journey on Instagram while you’re there.
For Morey, racing is in his blood, as much as the lake in Geist that he grew up on with his mother and father. His grandfather worked in racing and this love was passed down through the generations. With his relentless pursuit of greatness, fueled by a love for speed and an unbreakable spirit that knows no limits, Al Morey IV has his sights set on being the next big name in motorsports.
INNER COMPASS THERAPY
Writer / Renee Larr
People seek therapy for a myriad of reasons, including stress, trauma, depression, anxiety, marital issues, grief and more. Nicole (Niki) Brummett, MA, LMHC, owner of Inner Compass Therapy, says a good rule of thumb when determining if someone should seek therapy is if the presenting issues are impairing their daily functioning. Brummett recently opened the practice in Geist.
“About 15 years ago I opened a practice with a few other partners,” Brummett says. “Some things changed in terms of what I was doing, and I realized I needed to get back to doing what I loved and was passionate about, and that’s providing therapy. I opened my practice, focusing solely on my patients.” Brummett primarily serves patients ranging
from tweens to adults to couples seeking therapy for a variety of reasons. She says her areas of expertise are anxiety, depression, mood disorders, phobias, relationship issues and trauma-related diagnoses. She has been licensed as a mental health counselor since 2005.
“Trauma can include variations of abuse, PTSD and recovery,” Brummett says. “That can include everyday people, veterans and all types of first responders. I love to work in this field because you can see results. I love seeing my patients feel as though a weight has been lifted off their shoulders. They almost become a different person.”
She says she is trained in eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), a form of therapy designed to alleviate the stress associated with traumatic memories or distressing life experiences. Brummett
also works with couples utilizing the Gottman Method. The goals are to disarm conflicting verbal communication, and increase intimacy, respect and affection. Brummett also implements other evidenced-based interventions including cognitive behavioral therapy and Internal Family Systems.
“My patients would say I immediately make them feel comfortable,” Brummett says. “I think it’s because I am a wife and a mother, and I live in this area. I can relate to all the pressures of daily life and all that comes with it.”
Brummett says she offers a free 15-minute phone consultation to potential patients to determine if they are a good match. This initial step is designed to make patients feel comfortable and confident in the decision to seek therapy. Patients can then expect an initial appointment lasting 60 minutes, detailing reasons for seeking therapy, goals and expectations, personal history and background, and the therapist’s approach. The therapist will also discuss confidentiality and boundaries.
“Many times patients will ask me how long they should be in therapy,” Brummett says. “It comes down to the patient and their goals. Sometimes it’s short term, and they can accomplish their goals rather quickly. Other times it can take months and be longer-term. I like to take a patient-centered approach and work with the patient to determine the best treatment path.”

ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL?
EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT ATTENDING COLTS TRAINING CAMP
Writer / Vince Welch
Just like kids returning to school for a new academic year, summer vacation is over for the Indianapolis Colts. Class is in session. Training camp is in full swing.
The games don’t count until the Houston Texans visit Lucas Oil Stadium September 8 for the regular-season opener, but hope for a run into the postseason has its foundation laid in the preseason at training camp. If the Colts are to improve on last year’s 9-8 record and take the next step into the playoffs, much of that groundwork will be set in
motion during these practices at Grand Park in Westfield.
Grand Park, in its sixth year of being home to the Colts training camp, is scheduled to host a dozen practice sessions, wrapping up August 5 with a joint practice and scrimmage against the visiting Arizona Cardinals.
Training camp is full of opportunity, whether it is quarterback Anthony Richardson showing he’s healthy and sharp
after last year’s season-ending surgery, or first-round draft pick Laiatu Latu giving indication the Colts were spot-on when making the UCLA pass rusher the first defensive player taken in the draft.
But one could argue training camp is as much about the fans as it is the team. The Colts organization recognizes the chance to connect with those buying jerseys, purchasing tickets and living on the edge of every third-and-one scenario.
“We are one of the few teams in the league where training camp is open to fans for every practice,” noted Stephanie Pemberton, Colts vice president of marketing. “It really does allow fans to be part of the players’ journey.”
The practice sessions at Grand Park provide fans their first glimpse of the team they’ll be cheering this season. For the armchair quarterback, it is an opportunity to absorb the detail and intricacies that go into each play. It’s easy to find your favorite player on the field and watch his every move. It is access a fan never gets once training camp concludes.
Of course, what happens on the field is critical for second-year Coach Shane Steichen and his staff, but it’s what happens off the field that makes training camp unique. When practice is over, most players are accessible. In the player interaction, you often see a personality and friendliness typically covered by pads and a helmet.
Yes, NFL players are real people too! Fans have a chance to get close to the players who are usually only seen from the distance of a stadium’s upper deck, or the lens of a television camera - and training camp definitely provides the best chance for an autograph or a much-desired selfie with a favorite player.
Training camp provides something for all ages and levels of fandom. The kids can test their prowess at running, throwing and catching on a special field at Colts City. Even the big kids (yes that’s you, mom and dad) have fun on the turf showing the youngsters some of their old moves from the glory days.
“The expansiveness of Grand Park allows us to build out the fan experience to the fullest,” Pemberton said.
With the elevated heart rate from some fun exercise, and the sweat from a hot summer day, Colts City concessions are stocked
and ready to hit the spot. After getting your thirst quenched and your belly full, you’ll want to check out the Pro Shop for the latest gear to make you look and feel like a true Blue fan. All purchases are cashless, so don’t forget your credit card.
While training camp is about the fun and games, there are some important details to note. It is possible for a training-camp session to be sold out, especially during weekend or evening practices. You must have a ticket to attend, and you get your ticket in advance. Tickets are not available via walk-up at Grand Park. Visit colts.com/ camp to get your ticket for the day(s) you want to attend. Generally, tickets are free, but there are some exceptions. In a change from from previous years, five training-camp practices will have a $5 admission for adults 18 and over. The proceeds will benefit the YMCA of Greater Indianapolis flag football program. Tickets for kids 17 and under are always free.
