LIVRITE FITNESS CELEBRATES GRAND OPENING OF NEW FISHERS LOCATION Writer / Jon Shoulders Photographer / Eli Beaverson

As a decades-long veteran of the fitness facility industry, Greg Lymberopoulos has come to know the business quite well. Lymberopoulos first entered the industry in the early 1980s in the St. Louis metropolitan area and by 1987 had opened a chain of five full-service fitness clubs that he says ranked 299th in Inc. magazine’s list of fastest-growing companies that year.

“Coming up I was a baseball fanatic, and that’s all I knew starting out - I loved competition and the challenges that come with that,” says Lymberopoulos, who played baseball in high school and college. “So I was in that athletic world, and I thought I could do well running clubs and do what it takes to make them work well. Back in the 1980s, I could see that fullservice clubs were going to be big, instead of just racquetball clubs and things.”

he purchased a failing racquetball club, eventually relocating his headquarters to Indy under the LivRite Fitness moniker. He sold several of his St. Louis clubs and eventually all of his LivRite locations in 2000, keeping the rights to the LivRite name— a decision that would come in handy several years later when he bought several failing clubs in Indiana and Illinois and brought back the LivRite brand.

Lymberopoulos subsequently entered the Indianapolis fitness club market when

four Indiana gym locations including Anderson, Noblesville, Fishers and a spot in Indy near East 62nd Street and Binford Boulevard, as well as a location in Fairview Heights, Illinois. Lymberopoulos says his Christian faith has been a primary focus in all of his personal and professional endeavors. “I’ve always felt the Lord’s call and tried to do whatever it took to obey it and let it lead my work ethic and responsibilities,” he says. Five years ago, LivRite Fitness Noblesville was opened as a 24hour gym, with a full suite of cardio and aerobic equipment, tanning beds and hydromassage equipment and group classes. Three years later Lymberopoulos purchased the land where the new Fishers location now sits, and in September of 2018, he began construction on the LivRite Fishers facility, which spans two floors and about 40,000 square feet. The facility officially opened in December of 2019, and it’s a full-service gym indeed. You’ll find more than 40 cardio machines, racks upon racks of free weights, a basketball and volleyball court, and even a heated, 86-degree indoor swimming pool for those who’d like to get their laps in throughout the cold months. Each individual who signs up for a LivRite membership gets a complimentary fitness assessment with one of the gym’s certified personal trainers, which Lymberopoulos says helps members begin their fitness journey at the proper starting point. “You never want to start out overworking yourself, and it’s a good idea to get that assessment to determine your capabilities and maybe your limitations,” says Lymberopoulos, who has five children with his wife Deena. “It’s really a good idea for someone with an old injury or who’s had a long lapse in any kind of workout system, whether that’s by themselves or with group classes.”

And there’s no shortage of group classes for those who prefer the extra boost of having an instructor for some guidance - choose from water aerobics, basketball leagues, barre classes, as well as one-on-one personal training for customized fitness programs. LivRite also offers childcare services for parents and guardians whose schedule might preclude other daycare options, and an onsite cafe offers food and drinks for pre or post-workout nourishment.

The new facility also houses a few for when it’s nice out. Then we decided to additional unique features. There’s a include a 30-yard sprint track leading to the conference room on the second level ramp at the end,” Kyle says. “Hill training is available for private meetings, corporate a great workout, and a lot of athletes do it. events or birthday parties. IU HEALTH Author: Dr. Sumita Jain, family medicine specialist at IU Health Physicians Primary Care in Noblesville If you’re like many Americans, you might be kicking off your year with new resolutions and commitments to yourself. Perhaps you want to lose weight, save money or eat healthier. New Year’s resolutions are often well-intended, but finding a way to stick to your commitment can be tricky. Here’s my advice: focus on little milestones to help you reach your long-term goal. Large goals can be intimidating and difficult to reach. If your goal is to get more exercise, start small by adding 30 minutes of movement to each day. If it’s difficult for you to get a full thirty-minute exercise in it at one time, break it up. For example, maybe you can take a fifteen-minute walking break at work, and then take your dog for a fifteen-minute walk in the evening. Not only can this help you reach your larger goal, but it can reduce stress, improve your mood and keep your heart healthy. This time of year, you might notice more commercials and advertisements about dieting and special nutrition plans. Be

JAZZERCISE

cautious of trendy diets, and instead, focus on the basics of good nutrition. A good rule of thumb is the 80/20 rule. Make healthy choices 80 percent of the time and allow yourself to indulge in less healthy options 20 percent of the time. In addition to physical activity and nutrition, consider your sleep habits and emotional health. They are critical to your overall wellbeing. If you’re struggling with your health or don’t know where to start, talk with your doctor. You shouldn’t only be going to a doctor when something is wrong. Scheduling annual appointments will help you stay on top of age-appropriate screenings, such as heart scans and mammograms, and regular visits with your doctor can help detect a problem before it even starts.

EAT THE FROG

Jazzercise is the original dance party workout. Blending dance with Pilates, yoga, kickboxing and strength training, one 55-minute session can burn up to 800 calories. The results? Long, lean muscles and an undeniable mood boost. There’s something unique about Jazzercise. It’s hard to describe, but you’ll feel it when you’re here. No judgement, no intimidation. Instructors and customers make you feel like you belong. Classes are one-stopshopping that include both cardio and strength training. Jazzercise Carmel/Westfield offers 35 classes per week, 11 different formats including Dance Mixx (our signature format), interval, fusion, HIIT, Strike, Core, Strength, Low Impact/High Intensity, Lite and Jrs. SHINE YOGA Yoga in 2020? If you are looking to improve your overall wellness in the new year, if self-care is at the top of your list or looking to compliment your existing workout routine, then look no further than Yoga. What is Yoga? Yoga is a practice dating over 3000 years old, meaning to yoke, or connect the body, mind and breath. This is one reason yoga differs from other types of exercise. Yoga is complimentary. It can be done alone, or in combination with any other type of physical activity. Yoga is for EVERYBODY. It can be intimidating to start a new activity and that’s completely normal. The good news is, no matter your level of fitness or capabilities, you too, can reap the rewards of yoga. Everybody is unique and the body will move in the unique way it is capable of while doing yoga. With a variety of styles and increasing

in popularity and acceptance, those that may have overlooked this type of exercise are beginning to see the benefits of yoga go far beyond the physical poses. If you have ever stepped into a yoga class you understand. Yoga has a way of short circuiting the mental patterns that causes anxiety. You see yoga is not about self-improvement, but it is about self-acceptance. We all have heard the saying “just be you” and may have even given this advice to those around us. Yoga allows the best version of ourselves to emerge leaving worries, stress, unhealthy lifestyles, and things that serve no purpose behind. The majority of students walk into yoga to reap the physical benefits, but then quickly realize that yoga goes far beyond the physical and allows us to experience whole mind-body wellness.

CLUB PILATES Pilates is an amazing way to achieve proper alignment and body balance. It’s a workout method that addresses the entirety of the muscular system with equal attention to the joint and skeletal systems. This is why Pilates devotees repeatedly proclaim to feel taller after their sessions. Chiropractic emphasizes manual techniques, including joint adjustments and/or manipulation by the practitioner. Your chiropractor works to release pain and correct alignment. Pilates’ goal is to gently build muscular strength around the positive outcomes from your chiropractic visit, working in concert to help you feel better faster, and for longer. MEAL PREP SERVICE OFFERS CLEAN & ORGANIC FOOD IN HAMILTON COUNTY Writer / Jon Shoulders Photography Provided

people who are already clients of our meal prep business.”

Six years ago, Lacy Clark founded what she says still stands as Hamilton County’s only meal prep service that offers food free of sugar, sodium, dairy, HMOs, GMOs and MSG. Since then, Clark says her business, FitWoo Nutrition, has helped to change the lives of many local individuals and families through clean eating.

Clark originally founded FitWoo as a fitness training service but realized many of her clients weren’t seeing results despite a clear dedication during gym time. In 2013, she transitioned her business to focus primarily on nutrition and says she’s seen drastic improvements in the shape and overall health of many clients since that time.

Clark founded FitWoo as a female-only concept, but four years ago decided to establish the company as a meal prep service for any individual, couple or family who might be interested in dietary improvement.

“I’ve been an athlete for 24 years and was in personal training for eight years,” says Clark, a native of Huntington, Indiana, and an IUPUI grad. “I’ve seen a lot of people try hard in the gym but fail in their eating habits, and what we do is help to fill that missing piece. We provide full, clean meals

“I realized I wasn’t solving or helping anyone’s problems - I was personally training people but they were turning around and eating junk food,” Clark recalls. “So I transitioned full time to nutrition. We do still have personal trainers who will go to your home and work with you, but that’s for

“I really saw a need among women who were having kids and down on themselves about their weight, and that’s why we started out as female-only,” Clark says. “But it’s grown to be a service for everyone. I’d say about 90% of our clientele are people who know how to eat healthy but don’t have time for the prepping and cooking. I work with a lot of attorneys, realtors and people who might be eating in their car every day.”

atNoblesville.com / JANUARY 2020 / NOBLESVILLE MAGAZINE / 9

Full-time clients of FitWoo Nutrition receive three meals and two snacks per day, for five days a week. Each vacuumsealed meal is made in the Cicero-based FitWoo kitchen, and meals are delivered to clients on Sunday nights for the week labeled with full nutrition facts. Clark offers custom, individualized meal planning for weight-loss and fitness competition clients, but primarily offers eight staple meals and two new menu items per week for general clients. “All the meals that are delivered are freezer and oven safe and ready to be reheated and eaten,” Clark explains. “It’s just real food, from the ground — simple. The important thing is to make the meals flavorful because people will think this food, that’s free of all the bad stuff, is boring.” To that end, Clark released a cookbook last year titled “Clean It Up,” with more than 50 recipes she’d compiled over the previous five years along with fellow chefs and family

members. Her idea was to offer simple recipes free of salt, sugar and dairy — along with some vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free options — that the average family can make and actually enjoy. When it comes to her meal prep service, Clark says she’s ultimately trying to effect permanent, positive changes in the lives of her clients. She says she’s tripled her clientele in the last 12 months and hopes to continue growing in order to help as many people as possible with their dietary habits.

“I always tell people that I have nothing to sell you — I’m just teaching you how to change your lifestyle because we don’t believe in diets,” Clark says. “I grew up in a household where my mom tried every diet out there, and none of them worked. I wanted to crush the mold of diets, and we’re really about clean eating. The only thing is you have to want to be healthy and make changes, and we can give you the tools to succeed.” For more information on FitWoo Nutrition, visit fitwoofitness.com.

A Hometown Mayor NEW NOBLESVILLE MAYOR CHRIS JENSEN SETS GOALS FOR FIRST YEAR IN OFFICE

says. “It will be an expensive project but vital to our community’s future. Progress on State Road 37 is also important, and that project is not complete until it reaches at least State Road 38 and 32 in Noblesville.”

Writer / Jon Shoulders Photographer / Whitney Williams

As Noblesville’s new mayor, Chris Jensen says he’s excited to take on the various challenges the city is faced with and improve on what he sees as its many successes.

With 2.7% current unemployment in Noblesville, Jensen says the time is right to facilitate strong connections between local employers and those seeking to acquire the skill sets those employers need.

“Having grown up here, I’m excited for the chance to give back to my city as mayor,” says Jensen, who won a four-candidate primary race and was unopposed in the general election. Jenson plans to tackle four areas that served as the focal points of his mayoral campaign — public safety, workforce development, infrastructure and investment in downtown. “With infrastructure, east-to-west city connectivity and the extension of Pleasant Street is something we’ve talked about in our city for a while and it’s well past time,” Jensen

“We don’t need just any jobs to come to Noblesville, we need the right jobs to come here,” he says. “We need to work with our current employers to understand what kind of skills their workforce needs and find out how we’re partnering with our high schools and Ivy Tech - as well as adults - to enhance those skills for the next-generation workforce.” Jensen says public safety, which comprises 48% of the city budget, is also a top priority. Last fall he announced the appointment of

Hamilton County’s first-ever public safety director, retired IMPD Commander Chad Knecht, to oversee local police and fire departments in all matters of public safety. “Public safety has completely changed — we’re not just fighting fires and catching bad guys anymore, we’re dealing with school shootings, mental health issues and opioid overdoses,” Jensen says. Jensen also hopes to work with fellow officials to further maximize dining, shopping and living opportunities downtown, while finding fresh ways to showcase the White River. “Downtown is our crown jewel, and we have to protect its historical heritage, but we also have to enhance it,” he says. Born and raised in Noblesville, Jensen graduated as president of the Noblesville High School class of 2002 and as president

encouraged me to take a look at running for a council seat that had been added,” Jensen “My mom still lives in the house I grew up in, explains. “I’m a hometown boy and also a and my wife teaches in the Noblesville school 30-something millennial, and I felt like my system,” he says.” We’re very much invested in type of voice needed to be represented on the council level.” the community. My family and I are all in.” of Butler University four years later.

Jensen won the added council seat in 2015 and grew passionate about serving Noblesville during the following four years.

While he took a liking to his government classes in school, Jensen says he never considered politics while coming up through high school and college. “I’ve always enjoyed government, and my favorite class in school was my honors government class,” says Jensen, who interned for former state senator Luke Kenley in 2006 after graduating from Butler, and went on to work at the statehouse for seven years while Mitch Daniels served as governor. “I always worked behind the scenes and never necessarily envisioned myself as a candidate, but Mayor John Ditslear called me five years ago when we were transitioning to a Class 2 city and

Timing played a hand in Jensen’s decision to run for mayor, particularly when Ditslear announced his retirement after four terms in office.

Jensen vividly remembers the moment when it became clear he’d be Noblesville’s next mayor.

“John had a heck of a run for 16 years, and when conversations started to turn to who would lead after he was gone, my name started coming up,” Jensen says. “I went on a listening tour for about six months, listening and talking to folks I admired in the community. I came to the conclusion that maybe I could be the best leader for the city moving forward.”

“It was overwhelming,” he says. “I was with my family at Bru Burger that night, and the last few weeks of the campaign had been just really long and brutal hours. My family and the people around me were so stalwart and there for me through the whole process. I thought, ‘Wow, I get to be mayor of my hometown.’ Not many people can say those words. It’s so humbling.”

ADDISON MCMILLAN SPONSORED BY:

Writer / Julie Yates Photography Provided

Noblesville East Middle School (NEMS) eighth-grader, Addison McMillan is a Noblesville native and has a genuine appreciation for all the city has to offer. The 13-year-old honor roll student loves downtown and enjoys strolling the footbridge over White River. However, it is the local performance art opportunities that are her passion. “I love to sing, act and dance. It is so fun to portray a character on stage,” she says. "I am in NEMS Vocal Revolution Show Choir, and I do a lot of theater

and performing arts. I play clarinet in my school band and I also play piano, mandolin and guitar.” McMillan has held major roles in productions at her school. She portrayed Annie in “Annie Jr.” in the NEMS 2019 fall musical. Last year, she took on the character of Jane Banks in “Mary Poppins” and in 2017 she was Lt. Brannigan in “Guys and Dolls.” All NEMS performances were held at the Ivy Tech Hamilton County Campus in Noblesville. Separate from school, McMillan has participated in numerous area musicals, plays and concerts. She has been in several

performances at the Belfry Theatre in Noblesville as well as a production held at the Christian Youth Theater, Marian University, and one at the Westfield Playhouse. In addition, she has sung solos at various city events and fundraisers. This past September she performed in Noblesville’s String Time on the Square Concert Series. In June 2019, she sang and played the mandolin on stage at the Bill Monroe Bluegrass Festival in Bean Blossom. McMillan continues to develop her talents by taking lessons and participating in workshops. Piano competitions, performance groups and intensive instruction sessions strengthen her skills.

“I’M NOT SURE WHAT I AM GOING TO DO IN THE FUTURE, BUT I KNOW I WILL CONTINUE TO VOLUNTEER AND DO COMMUNITY THEATER.” McMillan has been able to fund these opportunities with scholarships she has won. She was recently awarded a $500 Encore Association Jean Cones Memorial Scholarship specified for performing arts education. When asked about her other interests, McMillan replied, “I am in my second year as a Conner Prairie youth volunteer. I volunteer as an 1836 costumed interpreter and also volunteer in blue shirt which means I answer modern-day guests’ questions and teach them about history. I am on the Conner Prairie textiles youth spinning team where I spin, weave and volunteer in the Loom House.

“I played on the NEMS seventhgrade girls basketball team last year,” she adds. “I am also involved in the National Junior Honor Society, in which I volunteer a lot. I like ice skating, arts, crafts and I love my dogs, Rocky, a Golden Retriever, and Daisy, a Parson Russell. I earned blue ribbons in 4-H Dog Obedience and Agility, showing Rocky.” McMillan is a past president and current vice president of her 4-H club. Hard work in her dog obedience and agility projects paid off. Her dog Rocky was so well behaved that he played the role of Sandy, Orphan Annie’s dog in the last NEMS musical. “I’m not sure what I am going to do in the future, but I know I will continue to volunteer and do community theater,” McMillan says. “You should do whatever you love to do, and that will get you the farthest.”

“Our most unique core beer is the German rauchbier style,” Compton says. “It’s a smoked German lager. It uses about 70% smoked malt and pretty much has the aroma and flavor of a campfire. It’s a style that we personally love and not a lot of people do it.” In addition to their other seasonal and specialty beers, Primeval Brewing will also always carry a cider on tap from Indy’s own Ash & Elm Cider Co. “There’s a certain part of the customer base that’s going to come in and isn’t necessarily a huge beer fan or might want something a little different,” Compton says. “The cider is just something a little different that we can put up there.” Primeval Brewing patrons also have the option to order food with their beer. According to Compton, the decision to serve food was primarily strategic. “We didn’t want to be the kind of place where somebody goes, has one beer, and says, ‘I’d like a second, but I need food. And since they don’t have food, I’m gonna go.’” Compton says.

On the Primeval Brewing food menu, visitors will find things like a charcuterie board, a turkey Reuben panini and a soup of the day. In reflecting on their food selection, however, Compton emphasizes that Primeval Brewing is a brewery above all else. “We are a brewery first, and all the priority is on being a brewery,” he says. “We wanted the food menu to be small and simple. We’re not trying to compete with full-service restaurants — that’s not who we are.”
