2018-2023 to relieve traffic congestion, improve connectivity via roads and trails, introduce multi-family apartments to downtown and address the needs of the police department. The Levinson, a $24.3M mixed-use project with a parking garage, retail space and apartments in downtown Noblesville will be constructed this year. The city has developed a robust communications plan to keep the public informed about downtown parking and potential street closures or issues during the Levinson construction period.
CITY OF NOBLESVILLE
In recent years, the city has focused on adding quality-of-life amenities like Federal Hill Commons, Zagster Bike Shares, expanding free community events and activating alleys and the White River. Noblesville was the seventh community named to the Indiana Statewide Cultural Districts Program and with more than 300 cultural arts events each year, it’s clear that arts and culture are thriving in our city.
Trail and connectivity have been a top priority for my administration and this year we will reach 100 trail miles. Noblesville began its portion of the Midland Trace Trail in 2017 by connecting to Westfield’s portion at Gray Road. This year, the Midland Trace Trail Phase III will continue the multi-use path further east to Hague Road — with the ultimate goal of allowing residents to use trails to get from the heart of our city to the Monon Trail and down to Indianapolis. In 2019, the city will also see the Riverwalk Trail extend from Division Street to Southside Park, and the Levee Trail providing a path from Carrigan Road to Morse Beach Park.
DUKE ENERGY
Noblesville also works hard to increase economic development. In 2018, the city celebrated three major openings out near Exit 210 — Embassy Suites Hotel and Conference Center, BorgWarner Indiana Tech Center and the Finch Creek Fieldhouse. To sustain our growth, the city continues to address our infrastructure needs for residents and businesses. This year, Noblesville has budgeted $3M for road and alley repaving and repair work to sidewalks and ramps. The annual street rehabilitation list contains projects in every quadrant of the city. In 2018, the city announced its Noblesville NOW Capital Improvement Plan for the 10 top-priority projects for
Noblesville has so many amenities and reasons to make you feel at home. As mayor, I hope that you’ll take some time to explore our city and discover for yourself why Noblesville is a unique place and a growing community — one that has been nationally recognized as a place to live, work, play and retire. A love of animals and desire to enrich the lives of those with special needs is the motivation behind the many activities of Emily Furgason, a senior at Noblesville High School. Furgason was in the third grade when she began participating in the Hamilton County Llama Trekkers 4-H Club. Learning about Llamas and how to show them at the county fair requires more time than most projects that are offered. Besides hours of hands-on experience in handling and communicating with these gentle and intelligent creatures, bookwork is involved. Participants learn about nutrition and vaccinations needed to keep the animals healthy.
pupils with developmental disabilities with participating students. Parent permission is required and students are surveyed to identify their interests. After the matches are made, friendships are developed as the pairs attend school sports events, movies or even just chat over the phone together. “The overall goal is to encourage social interaction and promote inclusion,” Furgason says. “Some students have the same buddy year after year and real friendships are formed.” Since Furgason has a passion for large animals and the field of special education, she feels that volunteering for Agape Therapeutic
As well as working with her llama, Arabella, Furgason was active in 4-H in other ways. She made a pillow woven from Arabella’s fur which won Reserve Champion at the 2016 Indiana State Fair. She was also in the 4-H photography club where she learned about lighting, exposure and composition. “I love photography,” Furgason says. “The walls in my room are covered from floor to ceiling with photos.” Furgason has been involved in 4H for 10 years. In recognition for her commitment to the organization, plus her excellent grades, she was awarded a 2019 4-H Donner Scholarship to continue her education after graduating from high school. During her sophomore year, Furgason started a chapter of Best Buddies International at Noblesville High School. The club pairs 2019 DIRECTORY AND RELOCATION GUIDE / 13
Riding Resources in Cicero was an opportunity that she could not pass up. “I started to volunteer for Agape in 2014,” she says. “It’s not only therapy for the individuals that come and ride but therapy for all of us that volunteer too.” Therapeutic riding benefits individuals of all ages who deal with challenges such as cerebral palsy, autism, anxiety disorders and other disabilities. Through riding lessons, they not only improve their physical strength and coordination but also improve their self-confidence and coping skills. What does the future hold for Furgason? She was awarded a Donner Scholarship from Hanover College in Indiana and is seriously considering attending there this coming fall. “I’ve thought a lot about what I want to major in,” she says. “I have considered special education or even working toward being a veterinarian. But for now, I think I will go for a major in psychology with a minor in physical science. Eventually, I would like to get a Ph.D.” Whatever path she takes, there is no question that it will involve doing what she loves – helping others.

We have been in the lead of using more biology and less chemistry. One of our founders is an Agronomist from Purdue, a soil scientist. He works with the team at TLC and with various manufacturers, distributors and developers of lawn products to find the right products and combinations to build the soil. We are utilizing biology to replace some of the chemistry as we build the soil. Many of the newer lawns have poor soil, a clay-pea gravel mix that leaves a lot to be desired. These soils have low nutrient value as well as they bind up the nutrients that tend to be there. Just using organic fertilizers doesn’t help reduce the amount of nitrogen being put on the lawns, it’s just another form of it. With the use of only organic fertilizers, we still have that whole nitrogen cycle which ends up with ammonification and nitrates into the water system. By using biosolids and a variety of things like kelp, humic and fulvic acids, amino acids, mychorrhizea, micro nutrients and other ingredients we are increasing the microbial activity in the rhizosphere. When we increase the microbial activity we are getting nutrients released from the soil which are then more readily available to the turf plant through its root system. The soil and the root system both have a negative charge, and when we can break off these nutrients with a positive charge from the soil they can then be taken up by the root system. By adding carbon into the soil we increase the surface area where these nutrients can also be stored and not just passed through the soil. Some of these products also cause small microfractures of the soil particles leading to more surface area to hold onto these nutrients as well. We practice IPM, Integrated Pest Management, and with our low pressure, low volume applications we can reduce our pesticides as well. We have a great team. Many of our team members have been with us for more than five years, up to 25. We have seven guys with more than 25 years of experience in the field.
